After globalization, the differences between countries have been diminished, and it seems that the whole world has become a single common landmass sharing the resources in between. Because of this, the migration increased and people started moving from the areas having lower or fewer resources to the places having more resources. In the same way, the world has seen that the students started moving to other places leaving their native cities/towns to attain higher studies. Here, the accommodation plays a very important role for students. Nowadays, many institutions are facing the problem of Room allocation like on what basis the roommates will be paired, what all the characteristics that should be taken care while doing the same. As many of the people who are sharing their rooms with someone else are also not compatible sometimes. There is a lot of improvement in the hostel management system earlier traditional approach of pen and register was used which switched to an online system at some places. Pairing of roommates is just done on the basis of first come first serve. Rooms should be allocated on the basis of some logical relation encountering characteristics of students rather random ones. Fuzzy logic will be used to determine which suitable room will be allocated to which student on the basis of their attributes.

Hostel management is a Web application that is created for managing various hostel activities that limit physical labor and makes jobs much easier for all the users of the app. Many universities are using the traditional procedure for storing data. This has a bad effect on the efficiency of the institution. This Web application provides the users a user-friendly GUI that makes all hostel-related activities easier than before. Machine learning is used in every module such as registration, token booking, room allotment and leave form module to make all these processes quicker and support multiple users at the same time. Machine learning facilitates systems to enrich their ability to automatically improve their functionality through learning. These kinds of systems use datasets to learn and train themselves through it. This training does not even require human assistance or intervention. Supervised machine learning techniques involve a set of predefined training dataset to train themselves. Unsupervised machine learning techniques explore datasets to infer structure for unstructured data. This paper focuses on identification of the drawbacks of the existing system which leads to the designing of computerized GUI-oriented system. LSTM is used to enhance the effectiveness of the computerized system. Random forest algorithm is a supervised learning method for tasks such as classification and prediction that involve the construction of multiple decision trees at training time and outputting the class that is the mode of the classes in classification or the mean prediction of the individual trees in regression. The reason that we use random forest algorithm is that it does not overfit data for large datasets which is suitable in our case. It combines the result of one or more decision trees to avoid overfitting. They are flexible and provide results with high accuracy. Scaling of data is not necessary.

The ongoing manual hostel management system demands a lot of paperwork and calculation and therefore may be imprecise, which leads to inconsistency and inaccuracy in maintenance of data. The information stored on the paper can be lost, stolen or destroyed, under any circumstances. Thus, the present system takes a lot of time causing inconvenience to hostellers and employees. Due to this manual behavior, it becomes complicated to add, update, delete or view the data. Also, if the number of hostellers increases drastically, then to preserve detailed records of every student is extremely difficult. Therefore, the key intention of this paper is targeted for College Hostel which integrates allocated room report, unallocated room report, transaction management, maintaining the decorum of the hosteller and giving a platform for placements to be excellently controlled. This chapter proposed management of the hostel in a computerized system. The system is equipped with some special features for serving hostel admin. Each record will generate a unique identity and it can be searched by a unique ID. The warden will have a better control over the functionalities like complaint management and tracking time using RFID. This will turn down efforts of warden and provide better service to the hostellers.

There has been an astronomical increase in the number of educational institutions established especially in the last four decades all over the world. This development has brought education to the doorstep of people. Consequently it has increased knowledge and helped produce a population of enlightened citizens who can easily abide by the rules of civilized society and contribute meaningfully to the process of democratic governance. Most of the newly established educational institutions however, are using the old conventional techniques for managing their assets especially hostel facilities. This old techniques with its inherent limitations have impacted negatively on the overall organisational efficiency of this educational systems. In this paper, the development of an automated hostel accommodation management system is proposed. The codes for the automated system were developed using Visual Basic and Microsoft Access was used to develop the underlying database. It also has in-built authentication algorithm for preventing unauthorised access. The developed system overcomes the drawbacks of traditional methods of hostel management; it is more user-friendly, graphical-user-interface oriented, reliable, efficient and secured with access control mechanisms.

A hostel management system (HOMASY) was designed to provide a computerized process that is stress free, reliable and quick through the use of PHP computer programming language and MySQL database application to both the students and the staff in charge of the registration and hostel management processes. HTML would be at the front-end and provide the graphical user interface that relates with the user, while the MySQL database will be at the back-end to handle the data storage process. The porter and students' affairs officers will also be able to access and create student records with ease and regular update of student profile is enhanced when adopted. The usual practice of filing and procedures involved in students' registration and hostel accommodation in Lagos State University and other university was appraised for efficiency, economics and time management. The existing procedure was formed to be manually carried out. This is associated with inadequacies as more personnel are often required and a lot of times are wasted while the semester is on with lectures and other activities.

Abstract Managing the student’s accommodation application process at College of Agriculture Lafia is a complex and time-sensitive task. This research work deals with the problems of managing and allocating hostels to students in College of Agriculture Lafia and to avoid the problems which occur when carried out manually. The aim of this research work “Online Hostel Management System” is to develop a web based system with a central database that will automatically allocate rooms to students, manage records related to the hostel, the system designed will keep track of all the available hostel rooms, their occupants and fund generated from hostel fee. Information for this research work was collected from two forms of data which are primary and secondary data. These are done by semi structured interviews and exploitation of the services of the library from textbooks, journals, internet and other materials for purpose of better understanding. The new system was implemented using PHP and MySQL. The result of the research is a Hostel Management and Allocation System for College of Agriculture Lafia.

As the name specifies “HOSTEL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM” is software developed for managing various activities in the hostel. For the past few years the number of educational institutions is increasing rapidly. Thereby the number of hostels is also increasing for the accommodation of the students studying in this institution. And hence there is a lot of strain on the person who are running the hostel and software’s are not usually used in this context. This particular project deals with the problems on managing a hostel and avoids the problems which occur when carried manually. Identification of the drawbacks of the existing system leads to the development of computerized hostel management system for Catholic University College of Ghana that will be compatible to the existing system with the system which is more users friendly and more GUI oriented. We can improve the efficiency of the system, thus overcome the drawbacks of the existing hostel management system. Less human error, Strength and strain of manual labor can be reduced, High security, Data redundancy can be avoided to some extent, Data consistency, Easy to handle, Easy data updating, Easy record keeping, Backup data can be easily generated.

This project deals with integrating the activities of the College Hostel into a comprehensive IT enabled Campus. There are 1200 students staying in a hostel pursuing various degrees in an institution. The activity for allocating the rooms for each student and maintaining the changes in rooms is a tedious task when operated manually. So to overcome the difficulty the integrated hostel automation system is proposed. In this project each student detail, College detail, Department details, Hostel building blocks details and room allocation details are get performed. The development process is done using the .Net Technology as Development Frame work and SQL Server as Back End Database Server.
