Disputes and disagreements are inevitable when working closely with others, even in the sweetest of workplaces! Share an example of a time when you had a conflict with a coworker. How did you address it and work to resolve the issue?

The interviewer isn’t just asking about any run-of-the-mill disagreement. They want to know how you handle workplace conflicts in the chaos of a busy environment

Show them you’ve got what it takes by describing how you diplomatically resolved a sticky issue with a coworker in the past.

Some pro tips: Focus on listening to understand their perspective, finding common ground, and coming up with a sweet compromise. Let them see that you know disputes are inevitable in any fast-paced team, but with patience and positivity, any challenge can be conquered.

“Working the busy morning shift at my local diner, tensions arose with a coworker over how to prioritize orders during the breakfast rush. I wanted to serve tables chronologically, while my coworker insisted we should serve larger groups first. Instead of arguing, I suggested we take 60 seconds to breathe and proposed we hear each other out.

Turns out we both just wanted customers to have the best experience! We decided on a balanced approach, serving parties with young children or tight schedules first but otherwise chronological. My coworker appreciated me listening, I thanked them for clarifying, and we crushed that shift with a newfound team mentality. Krispy Kreme would be no different—when things get heated in the kitchen, I keep a cool head and work with my crew to whip up solutions.”

How you would handle an impatient or frustrated customer to turn the interaction into a positive experience?

The interviewer wants to see that you can remain calm under pressure and resolve issues in a polite, customer-focused manner.

To ace this question, show that you understand the importance of patience, active listening, and resolving complaints.

Explain that at Krispy Kreme, the customer experience is the top priority. Focus your answer on how you would remedy the situation in a caring, professional way and leave that customer satisfied.

With the right mindset, you can turn an impatient customer into a loyal one.

“If an impatient customer started tapping their foot in my line, I’d flash a friendly smile and apologize for their wait and frustration. I’d say something like, ‘I’m really sorry for the holdup today. My name is [Your Name]—what can I do to make this right?’ After listening to them vent, I’d take full responsibility and say, ‘You’re absolutely right, and I don’t blame you for feeling annoyed. Let me make it up to you.’

Maybe I’d offer them a donut on the house or a gift card for next time. The goal is to not just pacify them but really wow them. I’d continue chatting to rebuild rapport, compliment them on their choice of doughnut once they’ve calmed down, and thank them for giving us another chance. A little sincerity and personal connection can turn someone’s day around and transform them into a customer for life. With patience, a smile, and the ability to make it right, any situation can become an opportunity.”

Tell me about a time you took feedback and used it to make real changes to how you work. What did you learn, and how did it help you grow in your role?

The interviewer wants to see that you’re open to feedback and willing to change.

In your answer, show how you listened, understood another perspective, and took action. Share a specific example, explain your changes, and discuss the results. Highlight key lessons and how they’ll make you a star employee.

For instance,

“In my previous role at a bakery, a customer complained that I lacked product knowledge and seemed unenthusiastic. My manager reiterated this feedback and asked me to make some changes. I took this feedback to heart and asked if I could do extra product training. I also practiced smiling more and engaging with each customer. Within a week, I had a much stronger grasp of the products, and my enthusiasm was shining through. Customers started complimenting me, and my manager noted the positive improvements.

I learned that accepting feedback graciously and making a real effort to improve can lead to growth. Thanks to this experience, I absorbed an essential lesson that would make me thrive in a role at Krispy Kreme: openness to feedback plus effort and action equals progress and success.”

How would you handle a situation where a coworker was not adhering to safety or sanitation standards?

Picture this:

You’re elbow-deep in dough, chatting with a coworker on the line. Suddenly, you notice they aren’t wearing gloves or a hairnet—major safety no-nos! What next?

Here’s how you would tackle this challenge with finesse:

“If I noticed a coworker was not following proper safety or sanitation procedures, I would first speak to them privately and tactfully about the issue. I would express my specific concerns for their well-being and our customers’ well-being, explain the proper procedures, and ask if there are any issues preventing them from adhering to the standards. If needed, I would retrain them on the procedures. I would then closely monitor to ensure the issues were resolved properly while continuing to offer my support. Only as a last resort would I bring the concern to a manager’s attention. My goal would be to remedy the situation discreetly and proactively before the lapse could impact productivity or customer experience.”

How would you communicate clearly and cordially with team members and customers despite working under pressure?

The interviewer wants to see if you can handle the heat…literally and figuratively! Krispy Kreme gets incredibly busy, especially during peak hours. They need people who can pump out dozens of sugary treats swiftly while maintaining composure and courtesy.

This question is assessing if you have the patience, focus, and communication skills to thrive under pressure and give great service.

To nail this question, show how you keep your cool in chaos. Describe how you take a deep breath, shrug off stress, and proceed to serve customers cheerfully and efficiently. Share an example of satisfying an annoyed customer during a rush. Prove you can resolve issues, turn frowns into smiles, and spread sweetness even in the most demanding of times.

For instance, you might say:

“Even when it gets extremely busy, I remain patient and focused. I take a deep breath to avoid becoming flustered, then proceed to listen actively and address our customers’ needs efficiently. For example, if there are upset customers due to a long wait time, I would apologize sincerely for their experience, thank them for their patience and understanding, then reassure them that I will get their order promptly. I find that communicating in a friendly, empathetic tone helps defuse frustration and leaves people feeling heard and cared for. My goal is to resolve issues and create a positive experience for each customer, regardless of the level of activity or obstacles.”

Are you willing to lift, transport, and move ingredients/equipment weighing up to 50 lbs on uneven surfaces, including stairs?

The interviewer wants to know if you’re ready to get your hands dirty—literally.

Baking dozens of fresh donuts every day requires hauling hefty bags of flour and sugar, maneuvering bulky fryers and mixers, and lugging trays of delicious treats. This question is their way of figuring out if you can handle the heat…or rather, the heavy lifting.

Show them you’ve got the grit for this glamorous grunt work.

“Absolutely, I’m no stranger to breaking a sweat. Physical labor does not deter me, and I appreciate how integral it is to operations. As if the intoxicating smell of hot Krispy Kreme donuts wasn’t enough motivation, count me in for heavy lifting and then some! I have experience lifting and moving heavy machinery in my previous roles, and safety is always my top priority.”

How would you prioritize tasks during a busy shift to ensure that all doughnuts are made on schedule and that the work area remains clean?

As a candidate, this question is your chance to prove you have the skills to thrive under pressure in a fast-paced work environment like Krispy Kreme. With the right system and focus, this challenging situation can be handled efficiently.

“First, I would gather the production schedule to review which doughnuts need to be made and the timeline for each. Then, I would delegate tasks to my team based on each person’s strengths and the priorities for the shift. For example, I would have some team members focus on preparing ingredients, mixing dough, and loading ovens while others focus on decorating and packaging finished doughnuts. I would also designate certain team members to periodically check work areas and equipment to perform quick cleans. By effectively distributing responsibilities and continually monitoring progress, we can work together as a team to accomplish all tasks on time while upholding Krispy Kreme’s high standards for quality and cleanliness.”

Describe a time when you had to make a difficult decision quickly. How did you handle it, and what was the outcome?

The interviewer wants to see if you have the mettle to thrive under the bright glaze of the Krispy Kreme spotlight. They want problem-solvers who can fill in the gaps faster than they fill donuts, strategic thinkers who always rise to the occasion.

When they ask about a time you made a quick decision, give them an example that proves you have the mixing bowl mindset to handle their high-heat, sugar-rushed environment. Discuss how you sized up the situation, whisked through your options, and cooked up the solution that was the best thing since sliced bread. Show how you kept your cool and remembered the top priorities: happy customers with hot donuts.

“In my previous role at a local bakery, I had to make an urgent decision when a batch of donuts was not rising properly during baking. The temperature in the oven had dropped unexpectedly, causing the dough to become dense and greasy.

We only had minutes to decide whether to throw out the entire batch or try to salvage it with a higher oven temperature to lighten the dough. After conferring with my manager, I decided we had to act fast to avoid wasting customer orders.

We quickly preheated the oven to its maximum setting and re-loaded the donuts. Although it was touch and go, we were able to get the donuts light and fluffy just in the nick of time for the morning rush.

Making that snap decision demonstrated my ability to think on my feet, take calculated risks, and help ensure we met our freshness standards and customer expectations even in a high-pressure environment. The donuts turned out perfectly in the end.”

Have you ever tried your hand at doughnut-making? If yes, what was your experience like?

The interviewer isn’t just asking if you’ve made doughnuts—they want to see your passion for the art of doughnut-making blaze through your words. T

o nail this question, speak enthusiastically about your craving for hot, melt-in-your-mouth Krispy Kreme doughnuts and your ambition to one day master their signature recipe. Pro tip: mention your favorite doughnut and how just thinking about it makes your mouth water!

“You bet I have! As a hopeless Krispy Kreme addict, I couldn’t resist trying to recreate my beloved glazed doughnuts at home. What an undertaking! My kitchen looked like a flour storm hit, but the aroma of fresh doughnuts made the mess worthwhile. While my doughnuts weren’t red carpet ready, biting into my amateur attempts reignited fond memories of visiting Krispy Kreme as a kid.

More than anything, my experience proved that doughnut-making is an art form. If selected for this role, I would devote myself to perfecting that art under your guidance. I want nothing more than to learn the secrets behind your light and airy doughnuts so I can bring that joy to customers every day. There’s nothing quite like a hot Krispy Kreme doughnut—trust me, just thinking about it now makes my mouth water!”

For scheduling purposes, what hours would you ideally prefer to work? Are there any constraints on your availability?

This question allows the interviewer to determine your availability and see if it aligns with the demanding hours required for the role. Share your flexibility but be honest – if evenings don’t work, suggest alternatives.

For the best answer, do some research on Krispy Kreme’s hours of operation to understand the time commitments and think about constraints in your own schedule. With the right approach, you can demonstrate your enthusiasm for the work hours.

When the interviewer asks, match their energy and flash a winning smile:

“The chance to start serving donuts at dawn and glazing into the night is exactly why I want to be part of the Krispy Kreme crew! I checked your hours and see you’re open from 6.30 AM to 10.30 PM – perfect. I’m free all day and night, any day of the week, so I can work whatever shifts you need, especially those late nights. Nothing beats the thrill of the dinner rush or closing with the team after a long day. Other candidates may burn out, but I’m in it for the long haul. When can I start?!”

On average, how many hours are you looking to work at Krispy Kreme each week?

The interviewer isn’t just making casual conversation when they ask how many hours you want to work each week. They need to know you’ll show up when expected…and then some!

Flexibility and dedication – that’s what they crave. Show you’ve got it in spades! Picture the graveyard shift, the early morning rush, the constant spin of the “Hot Now” sign. Are you hungry for the pace and chaos of it all? Then say so! Share your eagerness to do whatever it takes to craft the perfect glazed ring or brew the freshest pot of coffee.

How’s this:

“The truth is, I don’t care how early I have to get up or how late I stay out – I just want to be part of the action! Krispy Kreme is always on, and so am I. You need someone to work the breakfast shift? I’m there. Closing shift? Just try keeping me away. Weekends, holidays, whatever you need – consider me on call 24/7. I know this job demands long hours, late nights, and an endless supply of energy, and I couldn’t be more pumped to take it all on. Whatever it takes to keep those hot doughnuts rolling, I’m in for the long haul!

On average, I would expect to work 30 to 40 hours per week, but I’m happy to work more if needed during particularly busy periods or to cover for my coworkers. My schedule is very flexible, and my top priority is contributing to a great experience for our customers and fellow crew members in any way I can.”

Do you have dependable transportation to get you to your scheduled shifts on time, every time?

When asked if you have reliable transportation, this is your opportunity to prove you’re dependable and dedicated. The interviewer wants to know you’ll get there on time, every time, no excuses.

How to nail this question? Share your enthusiasm for the job, your access to your own vehicle, and your flexibility. Let them know punctuality and teamwork are your jam.

With that, here’s an example answer:

“Absolutely, I have my reliable car gassed up and ready to go for any early morning or late night shifts you need covered. Getting customers their hot, fresh donuts on time is a priority for me. As an early riser and self-proclaimed punctuality pro, you’ll never need to worry about me strolling in late with excuses. I’m committed to being a team player, and that means being present and on time, always. Driven and dedicated – that’s me!”

Krispy Kreme Hiring

To start, submitting a stellar job application is critical. Whether you apply online or in person, make sure your application is polished and highlights why you’re the perfect candidate for this role.

When your application piques their interest, expect a call from the hiring manager to chat briefly about the position, your experience, and your availability. Think of this as an appetizer before the main course – your face-to-face interview!

The real interview will be a chance for you to shine. Be ready to discuss specific stories and examples from your past that demonstrate your abilities and passion for customer service. The hiring manager wants to get a sense of how you’d approach challenges in that environment. Prepare some scenarios and be ready to problem-solve on the spot. With the right examples and enthusiasm, you’ll ace this part of the process.

The background check is simply to verify the information you’ve provided. As long as you’ve been truthful throughout, this step should go smoothly.

The entire hiring process can take around two weeks from start to finish, so remain patient and in contact with your hiring manager along the way.

Krispy Kreme Interview Tips

To succeed in your Krispy Kreme interview, prepare stories of your amazing customer service experiences, be ready to speak enthusiastically about the company and brand, and maintain your professionalism.

What to Wear to Krispy Kreme Interview

Krispy Kreme Dress Code

Heading into your Krispy Kreme interview? You’re already one step ahead just by thinking about how to dress for success. While the doughnut-making itself is surely sweet, the work is sweat, so comfort is key.

The dress code at Krispy Kreme is a company uniform that typically consists of a company-branded t-shirt, dark blue or black jeans/slacks, an apron, a hair net, visor, or hat, black socks, and all-black non-slip shoes.

For your interview, follow their lead by choosing an outfit that emulates their relaxed yet professional style. This is the perfect way to show you’re a great culture fit.

For a doughnut maker, decorator, or driver role, keep it casual and comfortable. Dark wash jeans or khakis, a simple t-shirt or blouse, and sneakers you can stand in all day. You want to be ready to dive right in, roll up your sleeves and get to work.

Shift supervisors, assistant managers, and GMs have a bit more responsibility, so dress one step up in business casual. Think slacks or khakis, a button-down shirt, possibly a blazer. Dress shoes complete the look.

In the corporate office, you’ll find more structure and hierarchy. For these management and executive positions, suit up in business formal attire. Skirted or pant suits for women, suits, and ties for men. Polished flats, loafers, or heels.

No matter your role, remember why you want to work for Krispy Kreme. Capture their spirit of joy, generosity, and deliciousness in the way you present yourself. You’ll do great!

Walk into that interview feeling poised and polished yet eager to dive in, get your hands messy, and spread smiles. Just be your wonderfully warm and welcoming self.

You now have the knowledge and confidence to ace your Krispy Kreme interview. Be sure to review the interview questions and answers, think about examples from your own experience that demonstrate your relevant strengths, and go in with a positive attitude. The hiring manager will surely be impressed with your preparation and enthusiasm.

While the interview is an important first step, keep in mind that the job isn’t yours yet. Continue applying to other places, networking, and looking for new opportunities. The key is persistence and resilience. Don’t get discouraged if it takes time. Stay determined and keep putting one foot in front of the other.

In addition to Krispy Kreme, consider companies like Dunkin’ Donuts , Cinnabon , Starbucks, Tim Hortons , Daylight Donuts, and Shipley Do-Nuts. The food and beverage industry would be lucky to have someone as diligent and eager as you.

Remember, you have so much talent and potential to offer. Keep that confidence high, continue gaining valuable experience, and the right role for you is out there waiting. Stay optimistic, and don’t give up. Your time is coming, so get out there and show them what you’re made of!

An Inside Look at Colorado’s Latest Krispy Kreme Doughnuts

Doughnut lovers across Colorado can rejoice, as there as of the second Tuesday of August 2024, there are four Krispy Kremes across the state.

It's funny how Krispy Kreme always opens new stores on a Tuesday; they must have done some research at some point that found that the second day of the week is best for new doughnut shops.

Or, it could be that the founder Vernon Rudolph liked Tuesday. Either way, one of America's favorite doughnut shops is now in Fort Collins.

It was in January of 2023, that Krispy Kreme announced they'd be breaking ground on a new location, the first for Northern Colorado, by March of that year; by the summer of the following year, where there was once a Fazoli's Italian restaurant , there was Krispy Kreme.

Krispy Kreme Opens Fort Collins, Colorado Location

This location, the first for Northern Colorado since they entered Colorado in 2001, is near the intersection of two major thoroughfares: Harmony Road and College Avenue, at 4824 South Mason.

Retro 102.5 logo

Hitting up Krispy Kreme in Fort Collins took me back to a date I had in 2002, where the movie I took her to was so bad, that we ended up driving all the way down to south Denver to Colorado's only Krispy Kreme (at the time) to salvage the night.

Krispy Kremes are fun, in the fact that you get to see the fresh doughnuts roll along the conveyor line, being turned into "hot and ready" glazed doughnuts. Kids and adults alike have a hard time taking their eyes off the line.

Krispy Kreme Is Adding 2 Fall Favorites to Its Menu — but Only for a Limited Time

It's PSL szn, kids.

Krispy Kreme

Krispy Kreme is absolutely on a roll with all of its limited releases and new doughnut flavors. In the last few months alone, it's dropped Olympic-themed doughnuts, Mini Dots , had a major sale for its birthday , and even opened its  first shop in France . But perhaps no update is as exciting as this one: Krispy Kreme is bringing back its Pumpkin Spice Cake Doughnut. Not in a few weeks or a few days. But today.

On Monday, the doughnut shop announced the return of Pumpkin Spice season with the re-release of its fan-favorite Pumpkin Spice Cake Doughnut and its Pumpkin Spice Latte. And yes, we realize it's still the middle of August, and it's still hot outside in most places around the U.S., but somehow, it feels right.

“It’s August, and we’re all ready for pumpkin spice, somehow. So, we’re bringing back the classics you’re craving,” Dave Skena, the global chief brand office at Krispy Kreme, shared in a statement provided to Food & Wine. “Our fans want their Krispy Kreme Pumpkin Spice Cake Doughnut and Latte right now, and we’re here for it." Skena also noted that the brand isn't done dropping fall favorites but wouldn't elaborate further. "Stay tuned, though, we’re not done spicing up the season.”

The Pumpkin Spice Cake Doughnut and Pumpkin Spice Latte are available now but only for a limited time (again, the brand didn't specify for how long, but we assume until mid-fall, when they drop winter-appropriate flavors).

If you haven't had a Pumpkin Spice Cake Doughnut yet, Krispy Kreme explained it's an original glazed, old fashioned topped with "the perfect combination of crumbly cake and pumpkin spice flavor." It's available to be purchased as a one-off or as part of a specialty dozen.

Meanwhile, its sister drink, the Pumpkin Spice Latte, is "made fresh-to-order, available hot, iced or frozen, and topped with whipped cream and pumpkin spice seasoning." So if it's still in the 80s and 90s where you are, maybe that frozen option is the way to go.

Both the doughnut and the drink are available in-shop and for pickup or delivery via Krispy Kreme’s app and website. The Pumpkin Spice Cake Doughnuts will also be sold in Krispy Kreme's six-pack, delivered fresh daily to select retailers, which you can find here . This way, you can get a taste of fall without having to deal with a chill in the air.

Krispy Kreme to open Aug. 13 in Fort Collins

Krispy Kreme_Media

FORT COLLINS — Just five months after its construction began and three months ahead of schedule, a Krispy Kreme doughnut shop will open next week in Fort Collins.

The 3,505-square-foot store at 4624 S. Mason St. will open at 5:30 a.m. Aug. 13, and just as it did at its March 19 groundbreaking ceremony , free doughnuts will be the draw. During its first five days of business, Krispy Kreme will randomly surprise 120 guests with with a “Celebration Dozen Ticket” that provides one free dozen original glazed doughnuts every month for a year.

In March, the chain gave 400 people who attended the groundbreaking free doughnuts after they signed up for Krispy Kreme’s rewards program.

How the Surest health plan helped improve access to care and lowered costs

Take a closer look at UnitedHealthcare's Surest health plan, a more modern approach to health benefits that improves access to care with the goal of lowering health care expenses.

Fort Collins-based Dohn Construction began work March 5 at the site, converting a space that had been occupied until several years ago by a Fazoli’s fast-casual pasta restaurant into a 3,641-square-foot outlet for Krispy Kreme Inc. (Nasdaq: DNUT). At that time, a representative for

Cypress, California-based WKS Restaurant Group told BizWest that the Fort Collins location would open in November.

“Known for our iconic doughnuts and premium coffee, Krispy Kreme is one of the most beloved

sweet-treat brands around,” Mireya Hernandez, vice president of WKS Krispy Kreme, said in a prepared statement. “We are excited to expand our footprint in the Fort Collins community and look forward to serving our new neighbors melt-in-your-mouth doughnuts and delicious drinks, morning through night.”

The shop will be open from 5:30 a.m. until 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and an hour later on Friday and Saturday.

WKS also manages the chain’s three other Colorado locations — in Colorado Springs, Lone Tree and Thornton — as well as Krispy Kreme stores in Arizona, California, New Mexico and Utah.

Known for the iconic red neon “Hot” sign in its window that is illuminated when a fresh batch of doughnuts comes out of the kitchen, Krispy Kreme will serve up its familiar lineup of more than a dozen varieties at the new location, including original glazed doughnuts as well as a selection of coffees and other beverages.

The chain was founded in 1937 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, when founder Vernon Rudolph bought a recipe for yeast-raised doughnuts from a French chef in New Orleans. The chain spread throughout the southeastern United States in the 1960s, and was sold to Beatrice Foods Co. in 1976, three years after Rudolph’s death. In 1982, a small group of franchise holders bought Krispy Kreme back from Beatrice and began a nationwide expansion. It moved through bankruptcy, went private in a $1.4 billion buyout by Luxembourg-based JAB Holding Co. in 2016, and completed a new initial public offering in 2020.

The company has nearly 1,400 retail shops in 33 countries.

Besides Krispy Kreme stores in the West and Southwest, WKS also manages brands including Wendy’s, Denny’s and El Pollo Loco.

Jeremiah will take us through our financial performance in a moment, but first, here's Josh.

Josh Charlesworth

Thanks Trey. Good morning everyone, and thank you for joining us. Our strategy of making fresh Krispy Kreme donuts more available around the world is working, and the excitement the brand creates has never been higher. This photo is from the recent opening of a Hot Light Theater in Ankara, Turkey, showing consumers lining up for our amazing, original glazed donuts hot off the production line. I want to thank our teams around the world for the great job they are doing making up fresh donuts available in more places, and for reminding people of the joy that is Krispy Kreme not just to eat but to share and give to others.

And as of tomorrow, Krispy Kreme will be available in 40 countries with the opening of our first Hot Light Theater in Morocco. The continuing strength of the brand and our strategy is reflected in our strong second quarter results. Organic revenue grew 7.8% driven by our innovative specialty donut collections, which continue to resonate with our consumers. Our global points of access continue to grow, increasing by 23% year over year. Our recently announced expansion into Spain means that fresh Krispy Kreme donuts will be available in four of Europe's largest markets next year. We are well on our way to our goal of 33,000 points of access by the end of 2026. In the U.S., our possible expansion was accelerating, which led to a U.S. margin increase of 80 basis points in the quarter. And we expect that as we build and optimize our Hub and Spoke Network, the efficiency benefits will continue to drive profitability.

The recent sale of Insomnia Cookies allows us to focus on our core strategy of producing, selling and distributing fresh donuts daily, whilst also further improving our financial profile. I am thankful for the partnership with Insomnia Cookies over the past five years, and look forward to continued success going forward, as a minority shareholder. Focused on fresh donuts now, excluding Insomnia Cookies, we expect full year organic revenue growth of 5% to 7%. In moment, Jeremiah will provide more details on the impact of the transaction and full year guidance as we continue on our journey of building a bigger and better Krispy Kreme in 2024 and beyond.

Let's expand on each of these key messages, starting with the continuing sales growth in Q2. We saw fantastic engagement with our brand again this quarter, with more than 27 billion media impressions as we capitalized on buzz worthy events like the solar eclipse as well as successful specialty donuts, including our Dolly Parton and Kit Kat Collections. Deliver fresh daily sales were up 18% globally and 22% in the U.S., where we have been driving donut category growth for our grocery and convenience store customers for more than a year now, digital sales grew 22% with the April relaunch of our U.S. loyalty program making the experience easier and more rewarding for our consumers. We can now deploy personalized consumer engagement across 15 million loyalty members, that's 27% more than a year ago.

Our biggest opportunity is to make it easier for people to buy our fresh donuts. We are doing this by increasing availability through our donut shops, online and by delivering fresh daily to grocery convenience stores and quick service restaurants and the pace of our expansion is accelerating. To reach our goal of 33,000 by 2026 we're expanding with existing customers, new customers, and indeed in new markets. With existing customers, such as Walmart, which still only lists us in about 25% of their stores, we are exploring the opportunity to go nationwide. We have agreed to expand with Target, a new customer later this year, and we are engaged in joint business planning with them to bring fresh donuts daily to their stores nationwide.

In new markets, our expansion in France and soon, Spain, Germany and Brazil provides the opportunity for 1000s more points of access. In Paris, we've quickly grown to five shops already, all supported by a single producing hub, and we have plans to enter DFD next year. In the U.S. our accelerated national expansion provides an opportunity to profitably densify our network. We currently have more than 8000 points of access in the U.S. We remain on track to add more than 12,000 McDonald's and about 3000 with partners like Walmart and Target, bringing them the goal to nearly 23,000 U.S. points of access by the end of 2026.

We are very pleased with our partnership with McDonald's. The national rollout begins this fall, with the Midwest, starting in Chicago, we expect to serve fresh donuts in more than 1000 McDonald's restaurants by the end of the year, add 5000 in 2025 and 6000 in 2026 bringing us to more than 85% of the U.S. footprint. Our team is hard at work modernizing the making and moving of donuts. We have a dedicated team partnering with our customers, including McDonald's, to ensure a smooth roll out. We are hiring and training experts in manufacturing operations, upgrading our donut production lines, continuously improving the manufacturing process and optimizing our delivery logistics network with improved routing and upgrades to our fleet, this expansion effort will increase utilization of our production hubs and distribution density. Today, our 151 U.S. Hubs with Spokes each serve on average 50 points of access. We expect this to increase to over 100 by 2026, improving efficiency and profitability.

Take, for example, Chicago, where we expect to support 450 new delivering fresh daily doors, with the same number of hubs as we have today. In addition to leveraging existing capacity, we'll be making selective investments in geographies which have limited access to Krispy Kreme today. Last quarter, I discussed adding 30 new hubs over the next three years to support the expansion. We're on track to achieve this goal, and have 17 of the 30 hubs already underway, including Seattle, Minneapolis and Philadelphia. With this, we are well positioned to deploy deliver fresh daily in all major metropolitan markets in the U.S.

And now I'll hand it over to Jeremiah to discuss our overall financial performance and the impact of the recent Insomnia Cookies transaction.

Jeremiah Ashukian

Thanks, Josh. I'll begin with our strong second quarter results, organic growth was 7.8% adjusted EBITDA increased 12.1% resulting in positive operating leverage with adjusted EBITDA margin expansion of 60 basis points to 12.5%. Turning to our U.S. segment results, the consumer engagement we saw in the quarter resulted in organic revenue growth of 8.4%, points of access growth was 17.8% year over year as we added new doors with several key customers and new stores including Stop and Shop and Target. Average revenue per door increased to $657 driven by price and specialty donut collections.

This quarter, we saw a 6.4% increase in sales per hub to $5 million which is a key measure of hub productivity. This helped deliver adjusted EBITDA growth of 16.4% to $32.7 million. The margins improved 80 basis points year over year, to 11.3% driven by increased utilization and tight control of SG&A this was partially offset by increased promotional activity and startup costs for the McDonald's launch in the fall. Within our equity owned international markets, organic revenue grew 5% of all markets growing in the quarter, led by Canada and Japan. We continue to add points of access across the network, including Coles in Australia and Oxxo in Mexico.

Adjusted EBITDA declined 12.3% primarily driven by the UK market, which resulted in an adjusted EBITDA margin of 17.3%. We're focused on improving results in the UK, where performance has not been up to our expectations. We've completed the consolidation of three sites, which should yield benefits in the back half of the year, and are taking further actions to ensure we restore margin levels in this market. In our market development segment, organic revenue grew 16.1% as equipment sales increased year over year. System wide sales grew in most markets, most notably in South Korea, where digital sales and donut innovation have driven successful results. Adjusted EBITDA in the segment grew 22.7% with margin expansion driven by greater flow through from product sales. For the second quarter, we delivered $0.05 and adjusted earnings per share. The higher depreciation and amortization in the quarter reflects the investments associated with expansion of our Hub and Spoke Network and Insomnia Cookies rapid growth.

Consistent with our plan, we delivered cash flow from operations in the second quarter of $33 million taking us to $15.5 million year to date. Since closing the quarter, we have strengthened our balance sheet following the sale of a majority ownership stake in Insomnia Cookies. We received $127.4 million in cash proceeds upon closing on July 17, and have since collected an additional $45 million following an Insomnia Cookies, refinancing of inter-company debt. As a result, we expect our next leverage ratio to trend towards 3.5 times by year end and remain on track to our long term goal of 2.0 times to 2.5 times by the end of 2026.

Let me turn to our full year guidance, which now reflects the sale of a majority ownership stake in Insomnia Cookies, improving the long term financial profile of the business. On the left you can see our previous guidance with a full year contribution from Insomnia. The middle column represents the back half impact of the transaction and on the right hand side is the Krispy Kreme's updated full year guidance, which reflects the removal of Insomnia from the second half of the year. By removing the previously forecasted $120 million of Insomnia revenue from the guidance, we now expect net revenue of $1.65 billion to $1.685 billion. Consistent with our prior assumption that Insomnia would have 100 basis point impact to our overall growth, we expect organic growth of 5% to 7% for the full year. Removing Insomnia's, second half adjusted EBITDA results in Krispy Kreme adjusted EBITDA of $215 million to $220 million for 2024. As with all of these updates, the change to adjusted EPS solely reflects the recent sale of Insomnia. We now expect between $0.24 and $0.28 cents for the year.

We are also providing the following modeling assumptions, an income tax rate of between 28% and 30%, capital expenditures of 7% to 8% of net revenue and interest expense of $55 million to $60 million down from our prior guidance of $55 million to $65 million reflecting our lower net debt levels. With regards to the third quarter, we recognize the change in consumer dynamic and continue to respond to it. As a reminder, Q3 will reflect the removal of Insomnia, and as a result, we expect third quarter net revenue of $370 million to $383 million with adjusted EBITDA of $38 million to $41 million. We remain confident in our ability to execute throughout the remainder of 2024.

With that, I'll turn it over to Josh for his closing remarks.

Thanks, Jeremiah. I'm excited for what we have ahead in the balance of the year, particularly in our high season, which begins in September and runs through the year-end holidays. In summary, we're focused on expanding fresh donut availability by adding high quality, productive points of access, driving operating leverage to the efficiency of our operating model and maximizing capital return both by leveraging existing capacity and making selective investments in geographies which have limited access to Krispy Kreme today. All in I look forward to us building a bigger and better Krispy Kreme in the years ahead.

Operator, Let's now open it up to Q&A please.

Question-and-Answer Session

[Operator Instructions]. Your first question comes from the line of Sara Senatore with Bank of America Merrill Lynch.

Sara Senatore

Great. Thank you very much. I wanted to ask about you mentioned the McDonald's rollout, and just basically thinking about, are you still on track? I think the idea had been to kind of increase rateably the number of stores over time. Does that still sound like the right kind of roll out plan? And as a second point is, you know, I think you had, we'd seen some pretty significant investment ahead of that, whether it was an OpEx or G&A, are the biggest, kind of chunkiest increases behind us. And so going forward, you know, the growth rate in operating expense should lag or at least more closely match revenues. Thanks.

So yeah, good morning. Yeah, the McDonald's partnership is going very well in general, and the rollout is on track. We announced today that we will be first listing with McDonald's beyond the Kentucky pilot in the fall in Chicago, and then expanding through the Midwest in the back end of this year, and then obviously into next year, we expect to be in more than 1000 McDonald's restaurants by the end of 2024 and then we have a roll out plan that we have partnered with McDonald's on through 2025 and indeed through 2026 with about 5000 we're expecting to add, generally, evenly through the year of 2025.

We have a dedicated cross functional team there to make sure the facilities and our people are ready. In fact, we're also making improvements to the production lines and even doing our best to improve productivity and up our game as we go, we're very focused on delivering a really high quality service to the McDonald's restaurants so that people get awesome fresh donuts every day at the same quality level they expect in Krispy Kreme and other channels, perhaps Jeremiah do you want to talk about some of the impacts of that?

Yeah. And Josh, you did a nice job. Good morning, Sara, and thanks for the question. To ensure a smooth rollout, we are investing ahead of the opportunity with dedicated rollout teams to support our shops and training and development costs. We're also improving capabilities across our manufacturing and operations teams and upgrading your donut production lines, as you can imagine, the volume that will move through. All of this has been included in our guide. Ongoing, we expect to manage costs prudently and deliver margin expansion as we ramp the McDonald's network serving nearly 85% of the brand's U.S. footprint by 2026 as Josh mentioned.

Your next question comes from the line of Rahul Krotthapalli with JPMorgan.

Rahul Krotthapalli

Good morning, guys. Thanks for the great update. Today. I'd like to focus on the nationwide rollout of Walmart and Target, and this is, I feel is a very big step for you guys. I think today, as I understand, there are around 4000 to 5000 doors untapped just between these two brands, versus the 3000 odd non-McDonald's doors you guys discussed for the guidance for the next three years. So as you expand the Hub and Spoke infrastructure, is it fair to expect there will be almost no additions or very low or a lower mix of convenience stores or low volume doors editions, as we go along, expanding this side of the business and also will profitability follow this.

It's important to understand that the McDonald's nationwide expansion is a bit of a catalyst for us. It enables us to really expand our DFD business faster than we would have been able to otherwise, and so we're focused on naturally, the high quality national players you mentioned, Walmart, Target, Kroger and others all fit the bill, all ways of getting our consumers those fresh donuts and making it easier for them to purchase them than it is today. So you know, we're in discussions with Walmart about how as our hubs are available to produce donuts in more and more markets. We can get it to those additional Walmart stores. We began discussions with Target as well, and they've evolved quickly, and we've recently expanded with Target at Phoenix and Atlanta, and we've got plans to come to LA, Detroit and several cities as we build out the network with the rollout of McDonald's.

So it's it really is a great combination sea stores [ph] and other smaller locations, smaller lower traffic locations are actually still very helpful to us, though, because we think all the places you go on the way to a McDonald's, Target, Walmart, Kroger, you're going to be going past convenience stores, gas stations, making the logistics route efficient, and so we still see a role for those to play, but naturally, we're focused on those big national partners that the McDonald's program unlocks for us.

Thanks for that. And I have a follow up on the international side. Can you discuss the details on what's happening in the UK market today, there has been concerns around broader softening demand in the QSR space. I'm just curious to understand how Krispy Kreme's business in that core market is holding up. How is it tracking related to your expectations? Anything here would be helpful.

Well, it's true that the UK has been a challenge that we're focused on, but it is important to understand that the majority of our near 40 international markets continue to perform very well, and we have company owned, Japan, Canada, Australia, most of our franchisee partners, newly opened, France, all performing very well, and indeed, the UK is still growing. It's just at a slower rate than the others, and profitability has been disappointing as a result. But the team have created some local buzz recently in July with specialty donuts following the strategy that's worked out elsewhere. They celebrated the TV show Friends. Just yesterday, we announced upgrades to the core donut range coming in Q3 so there's a lot of adaptation to those conditions you described that the team are doing well, not just on the top line or actually, you know, also worth mentioning about 200 secondary displays in grocery stores that are working well in larger supermarkets, expansion into convenience stores. So a lot of focused effort to get the UK back up to the levels we're seeing in other international markets, all whilst managing the cost side as well that Jeremiah covered earlier. So you know, I understand why you ask about the UK. We're closely monitoring and supporting the team there to make sure we get performance back up to the levels we're seeing elsewhere.

Your next question comes from the line of Bill Chappell with Truist Securities.

Bill Chappell

Josh, just a quick follow up on the UK. I was, I mean, I thought the impression that more of the issue was a regulatory one, and that you would start to be kind of lapping that. So maybe any update there in terms of, just, are you laughing, should things get better on their own? Is it getting any worse? Were you hearing more noise on that front just from that standpoint, would be great.

Hi, Bill, yeah, I mean the regulatory changes you're referencing associated largely impact in terms of where displays can be placed in a grocery store, associated with regulations around the merchandising of sweet treats there, that definitely has been a challenge for the team, and hence the secondary displays I mentioned, the additional expansion into convenience stores. These are great tactics the teams have employed.

We are lacking the initial impact of those regulations to your question, but it obviously has brought a structural effect onto the market. But then you know, when you step back and look at the brand, the donuts, how the consumer is resonating with our product, there's definitely an opportunity in the UK, hence, focus on upgrading the core donuts, bringing out specialty arts [ph], as we see in other markets. And the team are really leaning into that. So obviously the macroeconomic environment has been relatively challenged in the UK, but our teams generally focus on these amazing moments of joy, celebratory occasions and so looking forward, I know they're really getting behind all the big special occasions we have in the high season months ahead of us.

[Operator Instructions]. Your next question comes from the line of Dan Guglielmo with Capital One Securities.

Dan Guglielmo

Hello everyone. Thank you for taking my questions. Just around like the big U.S. relationship expansion so McDonald's, Target and then possibly Walmart. Will you all need to hire in the U.S. in the second half of this year, or can the existing employee base kind of handle most of that?

Well, obviously we're gearing up for expansion already, in many ways that is making sure that we've got extra drivers in place to get the donuts out there. That's the main hiring initiative we'd expect in the early months nearly all of the expansion is serviced by existing production hubs. So it's quite small the amount of extra labor we need to support the production there. We do have teams focused on partnering with the customers, you can imagine, in customer service and in marketing and for example, our respective marketing teams are working closely together with the McDonald's team, you know, so that people know Krispy Kreme is coming to McDonald's. So there is investment there but the overall message is that the expansion of deliver fresh daily in the U.S. is leveraging an underutilized system, the additional densification of all that distribution means you get flow through to the bottom line, as we saw in this quarter, in the second quarter, which we're pleased to see. You know, overall organic growth, basis point improvement reflects the model we have here, and so recruitment of the right people to support that is important, but it isn't a big concern. In fact, it's really exciting to see how we're growing.

Great. Yeah, that's very helpful. And just kind of as a follow up to that, just kind of U.S. macro a little bit the new employees, kind of that you're bringing, bringing on, like, how has the labor environment looked? Is it competitive? Just kind of curious from your view?

Krispy Kreme has been well positioned I feel. People love working at a Krispy Kreme. It's a great environment to work in and so generally, across the board, we've been able to recruit great talent and great people across the system. And there were stages where hiring drivers was a little more difficult. We're not seeing the same challenge. I think the labor environment has eased up on that, on that side, and so, yeah, the main thing we're focused on and making sure that all those folks are trained and supported, that the equipment is in tip top condition, that we have optimized our delivery routes, also that we can service our customers needs.

Your next question comes from the line of Bill Chappell with Truist Securities

Me again. I got cut off. Josh just a question on Chicago. You know why that's the next city? It's obviously different from the Kentucky cities. It's in the backyard and front yard of McDonald's headquarters and I don't know what kind of your existing presence is compared to other cities, so maybe you could just kind of explain the thought process behind that, and kind of how that may be different or not from what you've seen in Lexington and Louisville.

Well it is certainly different, but we're excited to be there at the home McDonald's. We're guided by their teams, where they prefer to roll out first, only constrained by our existing capacity, as I mentioned earlier in the call, you know, we're investing in -- selectively in key markets around the country, identifying and even getting commitments on sites in places like Minneapolis and Boston that we don't have production, and we'll come to those later. But in Chicago, we have three hubs with spokes already. They have excess capacity. In fact, in one of the sites, we have a hub with more than one production line, and so it's made complete sense to start in a place where we had that. As we think about our hubs going forward, we're really working on creating streamlined, sort of high efficiency sites that seamlessly integrate DFD and retail operations and we actually already have somewhere that we've been able to with modest investment set up in that way. So I feel really confident about starting out in Chicago. We have a nice presence across the Midwest in general. So you know, get going with a really positive, strong momentum from the start makes sense for both of us. So we're excited for the teams there.

I'll now turn the call back over to Josh Charlesworth for closing remarks. Please go ahead.

Yes. Well, thanks everyone for the questions. Really appreciate it. Thank you for your interest in Krispy Kreme today, obviously strong results and the strategies working. So really pleased to share with you that today. And of course, thank you to our Krispy Kremers for your ongoing commitment, bring joy to our customers through Krispy Kreme around the world. Thank you very much.

Ladies and gentlemen, that concludes today's call. Thank you all for joining and you may now disconnect.

Krispy Kreme Mission Statement and Vision Statement Analysis

personal statement for krispy kreme

Kelly Kreme’s mission statement is “ to touch and enhance lives through the joy that is Krispy Kreme. ” This mission statement is broad and covers the values that the founder of Krispy Kreme envisioned when he first began selling doughnuts directly to the clients. Rudolph’s vision and mission at that time were to make people happy by supplying hot doughnuts. He also aimed at expanding his operations in different parts of the world, which was possible through multiple local franchise stores that stock Krispy Kreme products. The mission statement has only one component as it is broad and vague.

  • To make customers happy

“To touch and enhance lives through the joy that is Krispy Kreme” was used in the mission statement to capture all the good qualities of Krispy Kreme . From the beginning, Krispy Kreme has inspired to lead the industry through commitment, service growth, innovation, and quality that they offer. Rudolph began the Krispy Kreme to spread joy to people, especially when he started selling the doughnuts directly to the customers.

The owner was committed to making a quality business that he invented machinery that allowed standardization of the doughnuts in Krispy Kreme stores. The innovation also improved the quality of the products as well as the efficiency of the company. Another innovation was the development of an innovative menu system that helps the customer order products in a fast and convenient manner.

In keeping with the spirit of innovativeness, Krispy Kreme designed and developed the “Hot Light App” that customers use to know when doughnuts are the hottest or perfect time to order doughnuts (Krispy Kreme, 2019b).

The app sends notifications to the user informing them the right time to order hit delicious doughnuts and beverages. The use of displays in Krispy Kreme stores also allows the customers to view and choose from different varieties of products.

The channel and franchise system used by Krispy Kreme to expand its operations in different parts of the world are also beneficial to customers. Opening stores in local stores make it convenient for the people who enjoy Krispy Kreme products to have them whenever they want. Also, the outlets are a source of income to the retailers and franchisees through the profits they make and the source of employment opportunities it gives people.

Introduction

Krispy Kreme’s business began when Vernon Rudolph purchased a secret recipe for yeast-raised doughnuts from a New Orleans-French chef. Rudolph opened a doughnut shop in Paducah, Kentucky in year 937 and began to sell the doughnuts to the local grocery stores. According to Thompson (2019), the sweet and delicious smell of baking doughnuts attracted the passers-by who stopped by his shop to inquire if they could buy hot doughnuts. Driven by his vision for a successful business, Rudolph cut a hole in his bakery store and began selling the doughnuts directly to the customers on the sidewalk (Krispy Kreme, 2019a).

The popularity of the Krispy Kreme grew in the 1940s and the 1950s that led to the opening of more stores in the Carolinas. However, each store made their doughnuts from scratch, something that caused variation Krispy Kreme doughnuts.

Consequently, Rudolph opened a mixing plant with machinery that helped in mixing and delivering the same dry dough to stores in different areas. The machines helped to standardize everything from cooking to glazing, which increased the consistency and efficiency of making them while also improving the quality of the doughnuts (Thompson, 2019).

Also, the Krispy Kreme doughnut bowtie logo was trademarked with the green and red coloring in the year 1955. In the 1960s, the appearance of the Krispy Kreme stores was also standardized using the heritage road sign and green tile roofs (Thompson, 2019). The standardization of the buildings and appearance of the corporation helped in branding the Krispy Kreme stores when they opened in new areas.

Krispy Kreme has since opened more than 1000 stores in different parts of the world such as the United Kingdom, Mexico, the United Arab Emirates, and Japan among other countries through local franchisees. The vision and mission of the Krispy Kreme are to be a worldwide leader in sharing delicious tastes that is Krispy Kreme, which they achieve daily when they open new stores in different parts of the world.

Vision Statement

Krispy Kreme’s vision statement reads as “ is to be the worldwide leader in sharing delicious tastes and creating joyful .” The authors used this vision to display the goals and inspirations of the company. People that enjoy the services and doughnuts from the Krispy Kreme outlets agree with this vision statement. Since its inception, the company has partnered with many businesses to help venture into new markets as well as creating technology that improves the quality of service delivery and their products. The growth of Krispy Kreme as a worldwide leader in offering delicious tastes and creating joy is reflected upon the increasing sales and rise in revenues (Krispy Kreme, 2013). For instance, the total revenues of the company increased by 11.4% in the fiscal year 2012 more than the one recorded in the previous year.

The components of the vision are:

  • Leading brand in the world
  • Sharing delicious tastes and creating joy

The element to be a “leading brand worldwide” indicates the vision that Rudolph had of opening Krispy Kreme stores in different parts of the world. The company has kept its signature that is easy to identify through standardized buildings and signs that indicate the presence of its stores. The company has also focused on introducing innovations that decrease the cost of operations while increasing the quality of services and the products. Krispy Kreme also introduces fresh doughnuts and other beverages that help it stand out amongst the competitors.

The “sharing delicious tastes and creating joy” component reflects upon the fantastic and delicious products served in Krispy Kreme outlets. The company also realizes this vision by offering products to various outlets such as schools, hospitals, wholesalers, convenient stores, and other outlets. Krispy Kreme also supplies its products to people that need them the most, thus creating joy.
