The detailed eligibility criteria for M.Phil. and PhD study program respectively is given below:
For PHD Full-Time Candidates:
* Must possess a Master’s course degree in the concerned or related discipline or any other qualification recognized as equivalent with 55% marks scored or above. (5% relaxation for SC/ST students)
* Possess a PG course degree with 17 years of the total duration of study alone are eligible for admission to the M. Phil. study program.
* The ones holding professional course degrees such as M. E., and M. Tech., and PG degree in Medicine, Law, Agriculture and similar other professional study courses are not eligible for admission to the M.Phil. study programs of the University.
* The ones working as Full-time Research Fellows or Technical Assistants or Research Assistants in time-bound Research schemes of one-year duration or more in University Departments or Research Departments of Affiliated Colleges or Recognized Research Institutions.
For M.Phil. Part-Time Students:
* Any person employed in any concern/organization/institution/R and D Centers/Laboratories situated within Tamil Nadu or Research Institutions recognized by Bharathiar University with a minimum of 55% of marks scored in the Master’s course degree. Such students shall produce a No objection certificate and Service Certificate from the Employer or Head of the Institution (in case of Educational Institutions)
* The ones teaching in the colleges affiliated to Bharathiar University.
Bharathiar University M.Phil. and Ph.D. course Admission Procedure
The University shall shortlist the students through a two-stage procedure- an entrance exam, called Common Eligibility Test (CET), and an Interview round.
The qualifying exam marks converted to 50 Marks Common Entrance Exam: 35 Marks Interview: 15 Marks Total: 100 marks

* The application form for the M.Phil./Ph.D. study programs at the Bharathiar University can be downloaded from the University’s official website.
* After downloading the form, a student needs to fill the application form carefully and send it to the University with the necessary enclosures.
* The application form will comprise of the two photocopies.
* Students must ensure that they fill in the same information in both photocopies of the application form.
