The best presentation topics always put their audience first, offer direct solutions, and fill in some knowledge gaps. But there’s more.

Don’t think of your presentation as a mere speech — it’s a ride you’ll take your audience on. There should be highs, lows, and revelations with a bang for an ending.

That being said, use these five tips to ace your presentation.

Presentation Tips. Make it informative, clear, and relevant. Design a clear layout. Choose an appropriate presentation style. Use visual aids. Engage with your audience.

4. Choose an appropriate presentation style.

There are many ways to present a topic. Your personality, the topic at hand, and your audience’s personas will help you determine which style would best fit you and your audience.

Select a presentation style that will communicate the main idea clearly and have a lasting impact on your audience.

For instance, explore a freeform style presenter by Sir Ken Robinson.

5. Engage with your audience.

Work on your presentation skills to make a strong connection with your audience, get through to them and leave a mark.

Think of the presenter as the link between the topic and the audience. A strong or a weak presenter can make a difference between a presentation being a thriving success or a boring failure.

Hone your skills by engaging and interacting with your audience. Make them feel like a part of the presentation and not just spectators. 70% of marketers have found presentations with interactive content to be more effective than those without.

Here are a few ways you can make your presentation interactive:

  • Start your speech with uncommon questions to your audience. Involve them from the get-go, like ask to raise their hands if X.
  • Make eye contact to build credibility and show confidence. Don’t stare at your slides or notes. Smile occasionally and talk to the audience directly.
  • Have an active and confident body language. Don’t stand in the same place the entire time. Move around the stage.
  • Don’t be monotonous. Speak as you would to a colleague — with enthusiasm.
  • Ask close-ended questions in between to keep the audience engaged without losing time. Address them using their names to keep things interesting.
  • Share personal experiences and stories that your audience will find fascinating and relatable.
  • Practice thoroughly before you present so you’re fluent with the material and delivery.
  • Energy and excitement can be quite contagious. Make sure you exude enough to spread some to your audience.

Feeling Inspired Yet?

Now you have all the right ingredients for choosing amazing topics and a hundred ideas to drive inspiration from. So, go ahead and start cooking presentations that will blow your audience away.

Don’t forget to choose a super-relevant topic and add meaty information. Do it with excitement to make it enjoyable for you and your audience. Best of luck!

What is a Presentation?

It is a process of sharing information about a topic with listeners. In simple terms, a presentation is a demonstration, lecture, or speech that is mainly given to motivate, persuade, inform, or present an idea or opinion to the target audience about a particular topic.

If you want to make your listeners understand your opinions, you can use rich visual elements such as images, graphs, and infographics. Often, presentations are given in either academic or business settings. Generally, in the business environment, at the time of presenting a financial report, launching a new product, pitching a new idea, and so on, professionals use PowerPoint presentations. However in the academic environment, in order to assess the communication skills and presentation skills of students, the teachers will often ask students to create and deliver a PowerPoint presentation in front of the class on any topic.

Creating a PowerPoint presentation is interesting but it involves certain challenges as well. Mainly, to create a visually appealing presentation, you must have slides with cool transitions, visuals, and simple text relevant to your topic.  Besides the creation of slides, to attract the audience, you should also have knowledge of the topic and also should know how to deliver an attention-grabbing presentation.

Worried about how to deliver an outstanding PowerPoint presentation? Relax! In the upcoming sections, you will get a clear understanding of the creation and delivery of a presentation.

How to Select a Perfect Presentation Topic

Generally, the topic you choose for your presentation should be original, significant, captivating, and educational. Follow the below-listed guidelines if you are unsure about how to find an ideal topic for your presentation.

  • Initially, determine the goal or purpose of your presentation. Your presentation will be more engaging and memorable only if you have a relevant goal.
  • Choose a presentation topic that interests you based on your goal. Your presentation will reflect your passion for the subject and inspire audience engagement.
  • Take into consideration the person you are speaking to. Better choose a presentation topic that is relevant to your target audience’s interests to keep them engaged and informed.
  • You might also come up with presentation ideas based on personal knowledge and experiences. Your presentation will be more engaging and remembered if you add a distinctive touch.
  • If you are not an expert on a certain presentation topic, think about how you can relate it to your areas of expertise.

Steps for Preparing an Excellent Presentation

To create a presentation, you can use any presentation software or tools like Microsoft PowerPoint. Especially, by using that tool, you can add numerous slides and present your ideas to the audience in the form of text, images, charts, graphs, etc. In general, the presentation will only give hints during the speech. As a speaker, with the help of presentation slides, you will have to give a clear picture to your audience about the research paper topic you speak about.

Before you start creating your presentation, make sure to follow the steps outlined below.

  • Firstly, identify a good presentation topic on the subject of your choice.
  • Secondly, create a presentation outline on your chosen topic.
  • Thirdly, to make the presentation, search and gather information related to your topic.
  • Fourthly, find out a rich background for your presentation slides.
  • Finally, start preparing your presentation slides creatively by including text, images, graphs, multimedia, and so on that is related to your presentation topic. Note that, the presentation you create should be attractive and engaging to your target audience.

Points To Remember When Creating a Presentation

If you want to make your slide look attractive and engaging, then while creating your presentation slides, make sure to follow the below-mentioned tips.

  • Use a neat style and rich design.
  • In your slide, use pleasant and contrasting colors. Avoid picking colors that irritate the eyes of the audience. For a dark background use color text and for a light background use text in dark colors.
  • For all the slides in your presentation, use a consistent background.
  • To make the content easy for your audience to read, use a large font size. Make sure to use the same font size for text in all the slides.
  • Avoid using italics or any decorative font styles.
  • Never capitalize all the words.
  • Use underline and bold only for keywords in the text.
  • Give importance to regular font styles like Sans Serif and Serif.
  • Evenly align text and images.
  • Never write lengthy paragraphs. Just use bullets to present the text.
  • The presentation should be short, simple, and crispy. Hence, have a limited number of slides in your presentation.
  • Add images that are relevant to your topic so that your readers can easily understand your point of discussion.
  • Avoid using graphical effects in the text.
  • Include transitions between the slides to make your presentation look rich and neat.
  • Before finalizing your presentation, proofread and edit if there are any errors in it. The final presentation copy should be unique, original, and error-free.

Tips for Delivering an Impressive Presentation

The tips shared in the previous section will help you to create an appealing presentation. But to share the points effectively with your target audience, you should be aware of how to deliver a presentation effectively with the slides that you have prepared. In case, you are unsure about it, follow the presentation delivery tips listed below.

  • Before you start delivering your presentation, check whether the projector, microphone, and speaker are in working condition.
  • The screensaver and pointer may distract your listeners’ attention. So, make sure to turn off those settings.
  • To make your content visible to your audience, turn on the slide show mode of your presentation.
  • While giving your presentation speech, never read the text in the slide as it is. Simply use the contents in your slide as a hint and develop the speech on your own.
  • Even people who are sitting in the back row should be able to hear your voice. So, maintain proper voice modulation and give pause at an appropriate place. Avoid delivering your points in a hurry.
  • To make your presentation lively, interact with your audience.
  • Maintain proper body language and deliver your speech with a smile.

How to Structure a Presentation Effectively

A good presentation topic alone is not enough to hold the attention of the listeners. You should have an idea about how to structure your presentation. Note that, your speech flow should be coherent. So, to effectively deliver a well-structured presentation, follow the steps that are presented below.

  • Initially, start your presentation with warm greetings and briefly introduce yourself.
  • Next, give a short and catchy introduction about your presentation topic. Remember, in the introduction, you should discuss what your topic is all about and a strong thesis statement. In simple terms, explain what you are going to deliver in the presentation.
  • After the introduction, deliver the body of your presentation. It is the soul of the presentation in which you should mainly explain all the major points relevant to your thesis statement with supporting facts, statistics, or evidence.

How To Choose A Topic For A Presentation Of Your Choice

Does your job selection process require you to present on a topic of your choice?

Are you appearing for an internship which has a presentation but no topic?

If one is asked to choose the topic of one’s choice at work, it is a hard choice. What topic does one choose – one that you are an expert on or the one that will impress the interviewers/examiners? If your topic meets both criteria, you are sorted. If it doesn’t, here are a few tips on how to get cracking in this situation.

Since it is a formal presentation that decides whether you get the job or not, the topic needs some thought.

1. PICK WHAT YOU ARE GOOD AT

First of all, pick up a topic that you are good at. You will feel more confident delivering it. And if there are questions at the end of the presentation, which I guess there will be, you will have a chance to show the extent of your knowledge.

2. MAKE IT RELEVANT

Secondly, make it relevant. You may be great at philately or have envious knowledge of cricket trivia. But those may not be the right topic for a job related presentation. Nor should it be too technical so that it seems like you are showing off. Pick something that gives you an opportunity to showcase the skills or knowledge that the job requires you of.

3. BE SPECIFIC

Pick a specific topic in the subject you choose. Don’t try to cover everything possible. That will only spread the topic thin. So choose a strand you are really good at and stick to that. For instance, if it is a technical presentation, you can pick up the advantages of a software. If it is about HR processes, you can stick to recruitment and best practices to choose the right people.

4. MAKE IT INTERESTING

Prepare the presentation with care. Pepper it with stories, anecdotes, stats – whatever tools are relevant and makes the presentation interesting.

You can learn more about speaking tools that will keep your audience interested  here

Pay attention to the ending. Don’t end with “that’s it”. Say something like, “I’ll be happy to answer If you have any questions”. Don’t bank on powerpoint to make the impression, become  the hero of your presentation . Make sure that the focus is on you and your presentation skills.

5. PRACTICE WELL

Practice, practice, practice. Since you know your presentation is an important part of your selection, make sure that you practice the flow. Get comfortable with the gestures you will use. This will add to your confidence during the presentation.

6. ARE YOU HAPPY?

When it all over, don’t forget to analyse your performance. Even if you get a job, work on the feedback that you get to improve future presentations.

DO YOU WANT TO IMPROVE YOUR PRESENTATION SKILLS?

I am taking on limited number of individuals this month to work with one on one with them. If you are interested, we can get on a 20 minute free session on phone with me to discover what areas you’d like to work on. Once we chalk that out, we can get together for personal or virtual sessions and bring out the confident presenter in you.

Drop me a line in the comments below or write to me on [email protected] and let’s make this year about impactful presentations!

For 10 minutes, what can you really do? A shower? A power nap? An entire presentation?

The 10-Minute Presentation Topics Structure

As you might imagine, the hardest part of a 10-minute presentation is actually sticking to 10 minutes. None of your audience, organisers or fellow speakers will be pleased if your speech starts running over, but it's hard to know how not to.

You might be tempted to cram as much information as possible, but doing so is just going to make for an overbearing presentation. Especially for this type of presentation , knowing what to leave out is as much of a skill as knowing what to put in, so try and follow the sample below for a perfectly structured presentation.

  • Introduction (1 slide) - Start your presentation with a quick question, fact or story relayed in a maximum of 2 minutes.
  • Body (3 slides) - Get into the nitty gritty of your talk with 3 slides. Audiences struggle to take home more than three ideas, so spacing all three out over the course of 6 or 7 minutes can be very effective.
  • Conclusion (1 slide) - End it all with a quick sum up of your 3 main points. You should be able to do this in 1 minute.

This 10-minute presentation example format contains a fairly conservative 5 slides, based on the famous 10-20-30 rule of presentations. In that rule, an ideal presentation is 10 slides in 20 minutes, meaning a 10-minute presentation would only require 5 slides.

Use various features with AhaSlides to gain better engagement in any type of presentation! You can spin the fun to the presentation, by gathering crowd ideas with an idea board and word cloud , or surveying them by top free survey tool , online polling , and also test their knowledge with an online quiz creator !

10 Topics for Presentation for College Students

A 10-minute presentation is all you need as a college student to show your knowledge and forward-thinking values. They're also great practice for presentations you might be making in the future. If you feel comfortable within 10 minutes, chances are that you'll be alright in the future, too.

  • How to work alongside AI - Artificial intelligence is making huge steps forward daily. We'll soon be in a different world, so how are you, the worker of the future, going to deal with it? This is a super interesting topic and one that's very relevant for your classmates.
  • Fighting the climate catastrophe - The issue of our age. What is it doing to us and how do we solve it?
  • Portable homes - The portable home movement is on the way to revolutionising the way we live. What's good and bad about having a house you can move around and what does your ideal one look like?
  • The thrift life - How to save money on clothes, along with the pros and cons of throwaway fashion for youngsters.
  • The future of streaming platforms - Why is TV on demand so great and why is it not universal? Or is it stealing too much of our free time?
  • What happened to newspapers? - Newspapers are probably ancient technology to college students like you. A deep dive into history will reveal what they were and why they're on their way out of print.
  • The evolution of the mobile phone - Has any device in history advanced as quickly as mobile phones have? There's so much to talk about in this 10-minute presentation topic.
  • The life and times of your hero - A great chance to show your love for someone who inspires you the most. This can be within or outside of your college subject.
  • My permaculture future - If you're looking for a greener existence in your future, try explaining to your classmates the advantages and logistics of having a permaculture garden.
  • E-waste - We dump out so much electrical waste these days. Where does it all go and what happens to it?

10 Interview Presentation Ideas - 10-Minute Presentation Topics

More and more nowadays, recruiters are turning to quick-fire presentations as a means of testing a candidate's skill and confidence in presenting something.

But, it's more than that. Recruiters also want to learn about you as a person. They want to know what interests you, what makes you tick and what has changed your life in a profound way.

If you can nail any of these presentation topics in your interview, you'll be starting next Monday!

  • Someone who inspires you - Pick a hero and talk about their background, their achievements, what you've learned from them and how it's shaped you as a person.
  • The most eye-opening place you've ever been - A travelling experience or holiday that blew your mind. This might not necessarily be your favourite ever abroad experience, but it was one that made you realise something you had not thought about before.
  • An imagined problem - Set out a hypothetical problem at the company you're applying for. Show the recruiters the steps you would take to eradicate that problem for good.
  • Something you're proud of - We've all got achievements we're proud of, and they do not necessarily work achievements. A quick 10-minute presentation on something you've done or made that has made you proud can reveal a lot of good stuff about you as a person.
  • The future of your field - Make some interesting, bold predictions about where you think the industry is heading in the upcoming years. Do research, get stats to back up your claims, and avoid being condescending.
  • A workflow you've fixed - Untidy workflows are rampant in many workplaces. If you've had a hand in turning something inefficient into a well-oiled machine, make a presentation about it!
  • A book you'd love to write - Assuming you were a top-class wordsmith, what's the one topic you'd love to write a book about? Would it be fiction or non-fiction? What would the plot be? Who are the characters?
  • Your favourite work culture - Choose the job with the best work culture in terms of office atmosphere, rules, after-work activities and trips away. Explain what was so great about it; it might give your potential new boss a few ideas!
  • Pet peeves in the workplace - If you fancy yourself as a bit of a comedian, listing out the things that grind your gears in the office could be a good laugh and a nice bit of observational comedy for your recruiters. Make sure it's actually funny though, as listening to a candidate moan for 10 minutes is not normally something that leads to recruitment.
  • The good and bad of remote working - Surely every office worker in the world has experience of remote working. Pry open your own experiences and discuss whether or not they've been for the better or for, the worse.

10 Relatable 10-Minute Presentation Topics

10-minute presentation topic

People love stuff they can relate to their own experiences. It's the reason why your presentation on the problems of the post office was a hit, but your one on the use of thermoplongeurs and suspension compression on modern fatigue carousels was an absolute travesty.

Keeping topics nicely open and accessible for everyone is a great way to get a good reaction. Do you need some topics for the presentation that participants can get involved in quickly? Check out these fun presentation topic ideas below...

  • The best Disney princess - The best interesting presentation topics! Everyone's got their favourite; who's the one that gives you the most hope for generations of strong, independent girls?
  • The greatest language ever - Maybe it's the language that sounds the sexiest, looks the sexiest or the one that just works the best.
  • Coffee vs tea - Most people have a preference, but very few have the numbers to back it up. Do some scientific research into what's better between coffee and tea and why.
  • Stand-up - You may not initially think it, but a stand-up comedy performance is definitely a presentation of sorts. 10 minutes is a great time window for some witty observations that make everyone laugh.
  • Reasons for procrastination - List out all the things that keep you from doing what you're supposed to be doing. Remember to tell some stories in this - chances are that almost all of your audience will be able to relate.
  • Is social distancing for life? Introverts, assemble. Or actually, don't. Should we keep social distancing an opt-in, opt-out kind of thing?
  • Paper books vs ebooks - This one is all about physical touch and nostalgia against modern convenience. It's a fight for our age.
  • Identity of the decades - We all know the distinction between the 70s, 80s and 90s, but what were the unique cultural points of the 2000s and 2010s? Will we see them later or will they just never get their own identities?
  • Pluto's a planet - Believe it or not, there are a surprising number of Pluto aficionados out there. Talking about how Pluto's a planet could really get them on your side, and they're a powerful bunch.
  • Observational comedy - A dive into the most relatable of short presentation topics. What makes observational comedy so relatable?
