The Daily

Campus Spotlight: Writers House

Love to express yourself through poetry? Interested in crafting a short story that will keep readers on the edge of their seats? No matter your preferred style of writing, you can explore and build your skills as a writer as part of the Writers House community at Case Western Reserve University.

The Writers House, located in Bellflower Hall, provides support and programming that falls outside the scope of the typical academic and scholarly writing that’s expected at a higher education institution. Through events and other activities, students, faculty and staff can explore more creative writing—fiction, poetry, memoir—and journalism, all surrounded by a community of writers both from across the university and the broader Cleveland community.

Workshops give members of the Writers House the chance to dig into their own work, receive tips and advice, and respond to writing prompts. Meanwhile, other events allow students, faculty and staff the opportunity to hear from seasoned writers.

The Writers House is also home to the New Gutenberg Annex , a moveable print type lab and book arts workshop. According to the facility’s website, the workshop allows members to experience the art of letterpress printing, thereby witnessing the technology that turns words and ideas into physical objects.

The Writers House is led by Director Mary Grimm, associate professor of English, and supported by an advisory committee of faculty members and graduate students.

Writers’ Building by Thomas Lyon: Kolkata’s first three storied building

writers house case study

History shapes the present and future of a region and the architectural world is no exception. The ancient buildings that still stand withholding their roots throughout the wheels of time are a treasure of our architectural history . Heritage buildings give a sense of place and identity in a world of increasingly ubiquitous new buildings. They represent a historic legacy and architectural culture of a region and an insight into the past events which helped to create the present.

Writers' Building by Thomas Lyon: Kolkata’s first three storied building - Sheet1

The structure speaks with its features, the stories, and events that unfolded within those withering walls at a certain time in the past. The identity and character of many historically important towns have been irrevocably altered by humans for many years now and it’s time to take responsibility.

Heritage is a legacy that needs preserving.

Heritage sites display advanced townscape qualities that evolved over a long period and now present an ecologically sustainable example for future urban models. This is achieved by reorienting contemporary approaches to urban planning by urban designers to create a more flexible model per the demand of the present living conditions. This new approach is known as Urban Heritage .

Urban heritage is a passive setting to the broader scope of development of modern cities keeping in mind the historic discipline. It takes an ethical, inclusive, and holistic approach to urban planning and heritage conservation by creating a stronger ground for the sustainable growth of cities in the future.

Architecture has been a part of a revolution for a long time. Architecture in the long run was a silent statement to convey certain thoughts and emotions. Our architectural history doesn’t just concern the key elements of an adopting style but also the historic value for a strong understanding of prevalent past occurrences. Believe it or not but most of these remarkable old buildings have caused a commotion in the past that led to massive history-changing movements.

One such politically, socially, and historically influencing building is the Writers’ Building .

Writers' Building by Thomas Lyon: Kolkata’s first three storied building - Sheet2

This heritage building was the first three-storied building of Colonial Calcutta. Writers’ building is a 150-meter-long building that covers the entire northern stretch of the Lal Dighi pond and sits at the center of historic B.B.D. Bagh. This grand old structure was designed by architect Thomas Lyon in 1777 and now serves as a secretariat building of the State Government of West Bengal . Writers’ Building is the epitome of classic European architecture in India.

Writers' Building by Thomas Lyon: Kolkata’s first three storied building - Sheet3

Locally known as Writers’, the building was originally meant to serve as a principal administrative office to accommodate junior clerks or ‘writers’ of the British East India Company (EIC). The distinct Greco-Roman architectural style of the structure holds a portico in the central bay and several marvelously carved statues lining the terrace namely Justice, Commerce, Science, and Agriculture. The sculpted work of William Fredric Woodington in 1883 includes the figurines of Greek gods along with a sculpture of the Roman goddess Minerva capturing attention from the pediment. Red exposed brick surface adds to its splendor.

Sheet4

Being intertwined with the social, cultural, historical, and political ethos of the city, the building kept evolving over the years. Initially, the simplistic structure comprised 19 residential living quarters outlooking three sets of windows each. In 1800, an iconic façade was created with 32ft high majestic Ionic columns supporting a 128ft long veranda to accommodate the Fort William College and the Government Engineering College within its premises.

The period between the years 1879-1906 saw the addition of two new blocks, accessible by impressive iron staircases . Writers’ had a large courtyard with seven blocks before independence which increased to 13 by the year 1970. A French Renaissance-style makeover was given to the building under the rule of British Governance, to make it appear more ornate and almost palatial in terms of its architecture.

Writers' Building by Thomas Lyon: Kolkata’s first three storied building - Sheet5

The Writers’ Building has been a silent witness to many political events that made a major impact on the times. Among the many notable events that occurred during the building’s lifetime, the most memorable one was the assassination of the infamous Inspector General of Prisons, Lt Col NS Simpson by three Bengali revolutionaries – Benoy Basu, Badal Gupta, and Dinesh Gupta, after whom the BBD Bagh got its unique identity.

The importance of the Writers’ building is still afresh and immersed in the hearts of the Kolkattians as it is a reminder of the journey from suppression to oppression leading to independence . From flourishing trade to revolutions, murders to celebrations, slavery to freedom, the Writers’ has been a silent spectator to all.

A testimony of the historical evolution, this landmark structure bears the history on its façade and figurines, for tourists to admire. This historic treasure now lays majestic and barren, as it is undergoing restoration. Writers’ building still manages to retain its grandeur from its glory days and remains a heritage site and a renowned tourist location in the city of Kolkata.

Rashi Jain is an architect by profession and a writer by passion. She thinks every wall has a story that needs to be told. Her admirations vary from intricate sculptures of heritage buildings to the glamour of set designing. She believes that words have the power to change the world.

Case study definition

writers house case study

Case study, a term which some of you may know from the "Case Study of Vanitas" anime and manga, is a thorough examination of a particular subject, such as a person, group, location, occasion, establishment, phenomena, etc. They are most frequently utilized in research of business, medicine, education and social behaviour. There are a different types of case studies that researchers might use:

• Collective case studies

• Descriptive case studies

• Explanatory case studies

• Exploratory case studies

• Instrumental case studies

• Intrinsic case studies

Case studies are usually much more sophisticated and professional than regular essays and courseworks, as they require a lot of verified data, are research-oriented and not necessarily designed to be read by the general public.

How to write a case study?

It very much depends on the topic of your case study, as a medical case study and a coffee business case study have completely different sources, outlines, target demographics, etc. But just for this example, let's outline a coffee roaster case study. Firstly, it's likely going to be a problem-solving case study, like most in the business and economics field are. Here are some tips for these types of case studies:

• Your case scenario should be precisely defined in terms of your unique assessment criteria.

• Determine the primary issues by analyzing the scenario. Think about how they connect to the main ideas and theories in your piece.

• Find and investigate any theories or methods that might be relevant to your case.

• Keep your audience in mind. Exactly who are your stakeholder(s)? If writing a case study on coffee roasters, it's probably gonna be suppliers, landlords, investors, customers, etc.

• Indicate the best solution(s) and how they should be implemented. Make sure your suggestions are grounded in pertinent theories and useful resources, as well as being realistic, practical, and attainable.

• Carefully proofread your case study. Keep in mind these four principles when editing: clarity, honesty, reality and relevance.

Writing a case study? Approach it like a bestselling author.

Jamie Wallace

Jamie Wallace

Case study

Let’s be honest. Most case studies are excruciatingly boring. And in the world of content, boring is a death sentence.

Part of the issue is the default problem/solution/results formula. While this approach roughly mirrors the classic three-act story, marketers rarely use it to tell an actual narrative. Instead, most case studies focus too much on the company and not enough on the customer. Rather than telling an actual story that a reader can step into and experience, a lot of case studies turn into over-simplified and self-serving promotional pieces that readers see through immediately.

Case study writers who want to do better can benefit a lot from learning more about how to craft a truly engaging story — one that’s designed to hold the reader’s interest and evoke a very specific meaning.

As a New York Times bestselling author and bona fide story expert, Lani Diane Rich knows more than a little about story craft. In fact, she just published a new book on the topic. Based on her popular and comprehensive podcast of the same name, How Story Works , “an elegant guide to the craft of storytelling,” is an intentionally slim volume that boils Lani’s substantial expertise down to its essence. It’s a quick read, but one you’ll return to again and again as its wisdom starts to sink in.

Lani’s primary audience may be creative writers like novelists and screenwriters, but her frameworks can be just as valuable for marketing writers . We’re not saying that using Lani’s techniques will turn your next case study into an Oscar-worthy blockbuster, but we do believe they can level up your case study game so your customer stories are more engaging and more effective.

Three steps to reverse engineer an effective case study

One of the most helpful things Lani does in her work is to define her terms. It’s a running joke with her sometime co-host, researcher Dr. Kelly Jones. But understanding the difference between different story elements is no laughing matter.

In How Story Works , Lani breaks down some key terms that often cause confusion, especially in the marketing world:

  • Story: A recounted event or series of events
  • Narrative: The meaning evoked by a story
  • Storytelling: The art of building a story purposefully to serve a particular narrative
  • Meaning: The implied or explicit significance of a thing

The trick to creating a story that works is understanding how to weave all these elements together.

Early on, Lani starts to explain the connections between these terms by emphasizing the importance of the word “recounted” in her definition of story. She says,

“A story isn’t the event or series of events themselves; a story is the recounting of those events. This is incredibly important; because in order for a story to be a story, it has to be told, and in being told, it will be edited. Random events throughout a day are just events until someone edits out the unimportant details and recounts the story with a specific meaning in mind, thus creating a narrative.”

So, how can you apply these ideas to writing a kick-ass case study? You can start with the end in mind, and then reverse engineer your way back to crafting the actual story.

Step 1: Identify the MEANING you’re trying to convey

Like any other piece of marketing content, a case study is meant to deliver a specific message. What’s the point you’re trying to make with a particular customer story? Is it something about the efficacy of your solution, the collaborative skills of your team, your ability to innovate, your team’s speed? What’s the one thing you want a reader to take away from the case study?

Step 2: Collect and inventory the series of events that might go into the STORY you are trying to tell

As Lani points out, a story is an edited recounting of events — a selective retelling of what happened. The events and other details related to a customer project are like individual ingredients that you can use to create different dishes depending on which ones you select and how you mix them. Use your case study intake to collect as much information as you can. You will sort it all out later.

Step 3: Apply STORYTELLING skills to combine select STORY elements into a well-shaped NARRATIVE that illuminates the MEANING you want to convey.

One of the most powerful storytelling skills any writer has is knowing which events and details to use, and which to leave out. Review the story elements you have in the context of the meaning you’re trying to convey, and identify which details serve your narrative. It’s almost like building a legal case — all the pieces have to fit together to prove your point in an engaging and convincing manner. Applying structure and focus is what shapes a series of seemingly random events and details into an effective narrative.

Pro-tip: Sometimes, after going through Step 2, you’ll have to revisit Step 1. When it turns out that the events don’t align with the intended meaning, it’s best to adjust the meaning rather than trying to twist the events to tell a story that just isn’t there.

Key storytelling skill: how case study writers can use the SEE Change framework

Lani’s “SEE Change” framework is a helpful tool for building narrative structure. It provides a story-based lens through which to view a case study:

Start the conflict

Stories run on conflict. Without it, readers quickly lose interest. In fiction, we’re used to looking for the “good guy” (protagonist) and the “bad guy” (antagonist) in a story. In a business case study, your protagonist is your customer. The antagonist is the challenge they have to overcome. This might be a clunky legacy system that is slowing down their sales team, an aggressive competitor, an unexpected shift in user needs, a pandemic that wreaks havoc on business as usual.

Lani explains that the most effective conflicts are ones in which the antagonist and protagonist have goals that are mutually exclusive. In other words, if either wins, the other loses. For example, if your conflict is based on growing market share, there’s only one winner—your customer or a competitor. They can’t both claim the same market share, so their goals are mutually exclusive.

It’s also important to understand the “why” behind the conflict. While companies are not people, they are made up of people and they serve people. Weaving in what motivates a customer to engage in a particular conflict makes it easier for readers to connect with the story, and even see themselves in a similar story of their own.

Escalate the conflict

Very few projects go off without a single hitch. Sometimes, the urge is to gloss over any hiccups to try and make everything look super easy. This is a missed opportunity. Don’t hide the speed bumps. They are what make your story more realistic and more relatable. They also help heighten the tension and encourage readers to pull for your customer to succeed, despite the odds. Did you hit a wall with timing or budget? Did you run into technical difficulties? Was there a leadership change at the organization, or an emerging technology that changed the game mid-project? Think about additional challenges as more opportunities to show your strengths.

End the conflict

In fiction, story resolutions are about finding a new equilibrium, a new—and hopefully improved—status quo. Ending the conflict in a case study is all about showing the results of your labors. How did you resolve the original conflict? To bring things full circle, it’s helpful to revisit the original conflict and goals to show, clearly, how your protagonist measured up.

Change the world

Finally, a story is given meaning when you show how the events of the story have changed the world. In fiction, there’s a trick for identifying what any story or novel or screenplay is about, you look at the ending. The ending reveals the intended message.

But it’s not enough to simply show how the world has changed, you also want to show why the world changed. People care about the why. The why speaks to what motivates us, what drives us to do the things we do. The why is the mission or vision that we relate to. As Lani puts it, “The why is the reason why story is the most powerful force on earth, I’m not even joking with you.”

Case studies developed with story craft are better case studies

In the close of How Story Works , Lani offers this bit of inspiring perspective:

In a quote commonly attributed to Plato, but for which I cannot find a proper citation, “Those who tell the stories rule society.” And it makes sense; if humans are desperately and constantly in search of meaning, if we are perpetually on the hunt for the why, then the person who provides that meaning, who gives us the why … well, that person is running the whole game.

Your next case study probably won’t change the world at large, but it just might change someone’s world if it’s a well-constructed narrative that helps the reader find the meaning they’re searching for. Using story craft and storytelling skills well will help you elevate that meaning so it’s easier for readers to find.

And — who knows? — looking at case studies through a story lens might help inspire you as well.

  • Creating Case Studies
  • December 13, 2021

Should you hire a Case Study writer or create Case Studies yourself? This article provides the pros, cons, and costs of each of your options so you can make a decision that’s best for your business.

Writing Your Own Case Studies vs. Hiring a Case Study Writer

Doing it yourself.

There are upsides to writing your own Case Studies. For one, you have full control over the project and its timeline. You can also, of course, offer deep, contextual knowledge about your business and your clients. Furthermore, in-house Case Study creation can save your company money since you’ll be relying on your internal staff (and following our Ultimate Guide to creating Case Studies ).

But all the same benefits of writing your own Case Studies can just as easily be downsides. Having full control of the project can be a pitfall if there’s a lack of organization or an influx of unexpected distractions; the project may never wind up completed. If you’re too informed about your business and clients, you may get bogged down by details.

Finally, you may actually overpay for the project. Case Study creation requires several skill sets, not to mention time, effort, and resources . And if your internal team has never created Case Studies before, there’s no assurance that the end product will be successful.

Hiring a Case Study Writer

A Case Study writer can be an expensive option, speaking from a strictly financial perspective. In short, a single Case Study may cost you anywhere from $600 to $3,000. The price will climb if you need to hire multiple contract workers, use a big-name marketing agency, or the project experiences delays.

That said, you’re more likely to wind up with a stronger Case Study when you hire a writer that has experience in crafting Case Studies. Also, while the experts create your Case Study, your in-house team can focus on their own work. You can enjoy having peace of mind that everyone is doing what they do best.

The Different Case Study Writers

In addition to creating Case Studies yourself, there are three main Case Study writers. The options are contractors/freelancers, marketing agencies, and agencies that specialize in writing Case Studies.

In-House Team

You’re aware of the pros and cons of creating Case Studies in-house but you bravely want to proceed. Provided that you have experienced individuals to fill the following roles, you can tackle this project internally:

  • The Project Manager is organized, has general knowledge of the Case Study creation process, and will coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to get the job done.
  • The Interviewer crafts questions and conducts and records the client interview.
  • The Writer uses the client interview recording to draft the text of the Case Study.
  • The Editor confirms the text is free of spelling, grammar, and factual errors and may organize and rework the text to improve clarity and readability.
  • The Graphic Designer creates an attractive layout for the Case Study and incorporates brand elements, images, icons, and other graphics.

Individuals can fulfill more than one role provided that they have the right skill sets. Your team can consult our Ultimate Guide to Creating Case Studies for B2B Sales and Marketing to learn more about what needs to be done and when. For additional help, you may want to rely on another business case study writing service option.

Contractors/Freelancers

Having contractors or freelancers fill any of the necessary roles is a good idea, especially if there are gaps in your in-house team’s skill set. It’s common to find a freelance writer and a graphic designer and manage the rest of the project internally. Such an approach depends on your business and internal employees though.

Hiring a freelancer or contractor is the least expensive Case Study writer option. This is good news for your project budget. Furthermore, a reliable, experienced contractor that regularly delivers results can prove valuable to your business.

But an external contractor still requires your management, so you can’t be completely hands-off. Additionally, finding the right person involves a degree of trial and error. It’s a risky and time-consuming process. This is especially true if the freelancer hasn’t done similar projects in your industry. You just don’t know what type of quality you’ll get.

Marketing Agencies

A high-quality marketing agency with some content creation capabilities can handle your B2B Case Studies. You’ll also end up with a high-quality finished product.

But experience and polish aside, a marketing agency is the Case Study writer with the most drawbacks. For starters, this choice really only makes sense if you have a preexisting relationship with the agency. You typically wouldn’t go through a marketing agency just for a Case Study. The agency is also unlikely to accept just that sole project.

In addition to very high costs, recognize that your Case Study project won’t be a high priority for the agency. This is because Case Studies aren’t typically marketing agencies’ specialty. Also, Case Studies require a high level of initiative and a streamlined process. A marketing agency is unlikely to have either when it comes to Case Study creation.

Specialized Case Study Agencies

An agency that specializes in writing Case Studies, like SuccessKit, is exactly what it sounds like. It’s a company that primarily creates Case Studies.

When it comes to hiring one of these agencies, anticipate the usual tedious tasks associated with onboarding any new partner. This includes signing contracts, making the necessary introductions, and sending assets. That said, there are substantial upsides.

For starters, the cost of a single Case Study from these experts is about half the price of that from a marketing agency. Also, the specialized agency already has the right team in place to handle any and all of your Case Studies from start to finish. It’s aware of best practices and manages the entire process for you—no oversight necessary. Your Case Study project is always a high priority to such an agency. And ultimately, you’ll wind up with a high-quality product to proudly use in your sales and marketing efforts.

Cost Guide to Hiring a Case Study Writer

How much does it cost to hire a Case Study writer? The answer depends on which Case Study writer you choose. The prices we cite in this section are based on our own conversations with prospects. Your own research may vary from our findings.

Again, writing Case Studies yourself may be your cheapest option—or it might not be. There’s no telling how the Case Study will turn out or how long it will take, especially if your internal team isn’t familiar with Case Study creation. It could result in a loss of time, effort, and resources that would’ve been better spent elsewhere.

Hiring a contractor or a freelancer to create your Case Studies is the next least expensive option. The estimated total cost of your Case Study project using contractors is $600–$1,200. This price could be a huge value if you find the right freelancers. But it could be a huge loss if you don’t.

The most expensive Case Study writer is the marketing agency. The estimated total cost of a single Case Study from a marketing agency is $3,000. This option may be right for you if your company budget allows for it and you already have a relationship with a marketing agency.

The agency specializing in Case Studies offers the best value with an estimated total cost of $1,950. Included in the price is a polished, professional Case Study, as well as the complete management of your Case Study project.

Take a look at the table to quickly compare costs and other aspects of different Case Study writers.

Creating your own Case Studies in-house is certainly doable. But keep in mind that you have options when it comes to hiring a Case Study writer.

You may choose to rely on a contractor/freelancer or a marketing agency to write your Case Studies. However, an agency that specializes in Case Studies—such as SuccessKit—offers the greatest value. Such a company will manage the entire Case Study creation process for you and provide you with a high-quality sales and marketing asset.

PODCAST: Inside LA’s Most Iconic Modernist Home, Case Study House #22

The story of an awe-inspiring building and the family that grew up there.

“Buck wanted to stand in every room from his house, turn his head, and see every view. Even the bathroom. And so that was kind of what inspired the design of the house.”

Among the most famous photographs of modern architecture is Julius Shulman’s picture of Case Study House #22, also known as the Stahl House after the family that commissioned it. Two girls in white dresses sit inside a glass cube that seems to float atop a cliff over the illuminated grid of Los Angeles at night. Built by a family with a “beer budget and champagne tastes,” the two-bedroom home designed by architect Pierre Koenig changed residential design in LA. While Shulman’s image and others of the building have appeared in countless publications, advertisements, films, and TV shows, the story of how the house came to be and what it was like to live there is less well known.

Meeka Hossain and Jeffrey Klein’s Creative Los Angeles Wedding Blended Bengali and Jewish Traditions

Content creator Meeka Hossain and talent manager Jeffrey Klein had their meet-cute in Barneys’ shoe department in Beverly Hills during the summer of 2018. “Our first date went so well that it ended up lasting nearly 24 hours,” says Meeka. Three and a half years later, on New Year’s Day, the couple would take the next step in their relationship. “After an early breakfast on the Malibu pier, we went for a hike in the Santa Monica Mountains,” remembers Meeka. “When Jeff felt we were far enough into our hike, he paused in the middle of a secluded canyon to propose. He wanted the moment to be just for us—without any photographers—so we could own that memory completely.”

One special touch of the engagement? Meeka’s sister, jewelry designer Stella Simona of Haati Chai , designed the ring together with Jeff. “I hadn’t seen my engagement ring before the proposal, nor did I give any hints about what I wanted,” says Meeka. “Jeff wanted a design with a vintage feel inspired by my heritage, and Stella nailed it, bringing his vision to life.”

The couple admits that wedding planning was “more stressful than we ever imagined.” After touring venues in Mexico and India, as well as interviewing 10 wedding planners, neither felt a connection to their potential options. “Ultimately, our real-estate agent—who also found us our house—suggested the stunning Paramour Estate ,” says Meeka. With a date available six months away, Jeff and Meeka would need to quickly start planning to achieve a wedding that blended both their style and cultures.

“I decided to take it on myself and teamed up with my friend  Misha Sumitra , the events and marketing manager at Saie ,” Meeka says. “Neither of us had planned a wedding before, but I love and trust her expertise and creativity. Every idea I brought to her was met with a resource or a solution. Together, we came up with outrageous ideas like transforming the valet parking lot at the Paramour into our dinner setup. Despite having hosted so many weddings, we were told that ours achieved a lot of ‘firsts’ for the venue.”

As planning kicked into high gear, Meeka and Jeff began looking for a wardrobe befitting the scale of their wedding celebrations. The first night would take place at a Case Study House in Silver Lake with the couple’s family and wedding party. The rehearsal dinner also doubled as a birthday party for Jeff, who wore a Sandro suit and Bottega Veneta slippers for the event. Meeka decided to wear a custom two-piece set by  Wiederhoeft  from  Loho Bride that night. “I fell in love with the corset details and intricate hand-beading done in India, which made it perfect for my fusion wedding,” she shares. “I added length to the skirt and designed a tulle neck scarf inspired by a traditional Indian dupatta.”

For the ceremony, Meeka chose a classic strapless Vera Wang gown. “Funny enough, the first wedding dress I tried on was it ,” she says. “I decided on Vera Wang and never looked back. I knew I wanted something timeless and with a long train. The drop waist and simplicity of the dress gave it a slightly edgy, understated feel that perfectly matched my personal style, while the veil added that delicate touch to tie the whole look together.” She paired the ensemble with Jimmy Choo heels and pearl studs for a minimalist touch. Jeff wore a suit by his favorite designer, Alexander McQueen , to say his vows. Meeka adds, “A sheer  Acne Studios shirt provided a soft contrast, and he accessorized with heirloom pieces—his grandfather’s gold pocket watch and gold diamond ring.”

As a nod to Meeka’s heritage, both the bride and groom wore custom Sabyasachi at the reception. “After meeting the designer in New York, I knew I wanted to be a Sabya bride, so we traveled to India for the perfect piece,” shares Meeka. “My red lehenga, from the Heritage collection, honored my culture and paid tribute to the women of Calcutta, where my mother is from.” She also wore a gold choker with rubies, emeralds, and pearls; a pearl and emerald nose ring; and bangles by the designer to complete the ensemble. As a sentimental touch, the bride re-created her mother’s wedding-day henna design on her hands and feet. For his look, Jeff wore a cream sherwani with a gold kurta underneath and slippers he purchased from a street vendor in Jaipur. “He accessorized with a custom  Haati Chai  earring, inspired by our family vacation at an elephant sanctuary in Jaipur. The hint of red in his earring, combined with his McQueen suit, hinted at the vibrant colors that would be revealed later in the night,” says Meeka.

The wedding party looks were thoughtfully curated as well, with the bridesmaids in saris and the groomsmen in kurtas. “The girls brought in the vibrant colors, while the guys balanced it out with neutrals,” shares the bride. “I personally selected each sari during my trip to India in March, choosing different jewel tones to complement my red lehenga.” Meeka called on her friend designer  Sam Adair to create the sari tops. “My sister and I gathered inspiration from our favorite Bollywood movies, which Sam brought to life with beautiful sketches,” she says.

On August 9, Jeff and Meeka, along with their bridesmaids and groomsmen, checked into the storied Chateau Marmont to celebrate the wedding all weekend long. The rehearsal dinner at the Case Study House owned by the couple’s friend Gina Correll also doubled as their own take on a Gaye holud. “In Bengali culture, the holud is one of the key prewedding rituals, where everyone wears yellow and orange and you put turmeric on the bride and groom,” explains Meeka. “So even without a full holud ceremony, I had my bridesmaids wear yellow to celebrate my culture.”

When the wedding day arrived, Meeka and her bridal party spent the morning getting ready together. “ Chanel  exclusively handled my wedding-day makeup, with artist  Kate Lee  creating my looks,” says the bride. “After a trial with Kate, I instantly loved her natural, soft glam approach. For my Vera Wang look, I aimed to look like myself, just enhanced.” Hairstylist Nicolas Flores created a sleek, slicked-back bun she would wear the entire evening. The couple decided to do a first look and took portraits in a vintage Mercedes.

Guests gathered on the grounds of the Paramour Estate before the ceremony began. The band Freedom Fry , who is managed by Jeff, played a few songs for the crowd before the procession began. “For our ceremony, we stayed away from the traditional arch or chuppah, and instead used soft, airy botanicals from the ground up, creating a more grounded feel with the garden and our surroundings,” shares Meeka of the scene. “Jeff described the ceremony as déjà vu because it was exactly what we envisioned from the start. From the sitar player composing our walk-down-the-aisle song to the canvas-draped benches filled with our closest friends and family, everything felt perfect as we exchanged our vows.” The couple also nodded to both their heritages in the ceremony. “We included a variation of the Indian ‘ring game,’” says the bride. “We filled a large bowl with uncooked rice and Jeff’s ring, and whoever found the ring first would be the ruler of the household—naturally, I won! To conclude the ceremony, we followed Jewish tradition by breaking a glass to symbolize our life together and everything that lies ahead.”

After the cocktail hour, the guests made their way to the dinner reception. “Our table was custom-built in the shape of a crescent moon. After the Jewish prayers over challah and wine, we shared a meal of traditional Bengali cuisine,” says Meeka. “We personalized each guest’s place setting with custom curry tins, and their seating assignments were revealed through a spice market–inspired display. After dinner, guests could fill their tins with spices to take home.”

The fun was far from over after the party headed indoors. Meeka and Jeff changed into their Sabyasachi looks and made a grand entrance through marigold garlands curated by floral designer Albasa . Then the newlyweds performed a fully choreographed, five-minute Bollywood routine featuring their wedding party. “The entire routine felt like a scene from a Bollywood film,” recalls the bride. “Both Jeff and I had solos, and my sister joined me to end the performance with a hit song from the Bollywood movie  Devdas . After our performance, we invited all the guests to join us on the dance floor. We had brought Indian slippers from Jaipur for guests to dance in once they got tired of their heels.” The couple even arranged for special Macallan cocktails, a speakeasy room, and a dessert installation that featured a mix of Bengali and Jewish sweets by  Sophie Dalah . While the guests eventually needed to leave the venue, the party continued late into the night back at Chateau Marmont.

Reflecting on the day, the bride shares she feels both happy and relieved. “Despite all the planning, there are always things beyond your control on the wedding day. It’s important to go with the flow and embrace the imperfections,” she says. “Looking at the photos brings back all the best memories and makes it all worth it!”
