Filipino Inventor Ronald Pagsanghan Creates Unsinkable Rescue Boat

Unsinkable rescue boat invented by filipino inventor ronald pagsanghan.

The Filipino inventor Ronald Pagsanghan developed a portable unsinkable rescue boat claiming that it was one of a kind all over the world.

The enterprising inventor Ronald Pagsanghan created the unsinkable boat after he witnessed how Typhoon Ketsana “Ondoy” devastated the Philippines.

Ondoy brings huge floods that took the lives of almost 789 people and damaged infrastructures and agricultural products amounting billions of pesos.

The Pinoy inventor explained how the rescue operations suffered delay because of the huge floodwater in Luzon.

“That horrible experience gave me the idea of developing an unsinkable boat designed for rescue operations in flooded areas,” Pagsanghan said.

In 2011, the Filipino inventor created a successful prototype of his portable unsinkable rescue boat and received an award from the Rotary Club of Manila and Manila Polo Club for his invention last 2012.

Pagsanghan’s scientific invention rose to popularity prompting the local government of Bulacan, Quezon, and Isabela to order the unsinkable rescue boat.

During the recent Filipino Inventors Week at the Skydome of SM North EDSA in Quezon City, Pagsanghan’s invention becomes one of the main attractions.

Ronald was also hoping that the government will help to promote the notable inventions of the Filipino inventors.

Check Out This Unsinkable Rescue Boat Made by a Pinoy Inventor

When a typhoon hits and people need to be evacuated, the importance of a good rescue boat is paramount. Now, thanks to a Filipino inventor, a one-of-a-kind rescue boat has been developed. What makes it special? It’s unsinkable.

Learned from Experience

After witnessing the destruction caused by Typhoon Ketsana (locally named “Ondoy”) nine years ago, Ronald Pagsanghan thought of developing an unsinkable boat.

He said that rescue operations were delayed due to heavy flooding that proved too much for existing boats.  “Rubber boats could not maneuver at the height of the flood,” Pagsanghan said.

“That horrible experience gave me the idea of developing an unsinkable boat designed for rescue operations in flooded areas,” he added.

Tried and Tested

Pagsanghan successfully tested a prototype in 2011.

“My portable unsinkable boat is primarily designed for flooded areas in urban areas and rivers,” he explained.

In 2012, he received awards for his invention from the Rotary Club of Manila and Manila Polo Club. From that point onward, local government from Isabela, Bulacan, Quezon, and more have purchased unsinkable portable rescue boats from him.

Pagsanghan ensured that his boat won’t sink during rescue operations and even under heavy weather. With such amazing capability, it was no surprise that his invention was a main attraction in the recent Filipino Inventors Week held at SM North EDSA’s Skydome.

Inventors Need Support

As a parting message, Pagsanghan urged the government to fully extend its help in promoting his invention. He likewise encouraged the promotion of the works of other Filipino inventors . Doing this, he says, will benefit the country and its people.

Villar tells Zambales farmers: Embrace rice tariffication law

SAN FELIPE, Zambales – During her visit to the province on Friday, Sen. Cynthia Villar told Zambales farmers to embrace the proposed rice tariffication law since P10 billion earned from the law will be used for the local rice industry.

At the San Felipe Farmers Association General Assembly, Villar told the stakeholders that the bill would provide a Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (RCEF) worth P10 billion. She added that part of the fund would be used in the mechanization of rice farming.

Villar stressed that the mechanization of rice farming is crucial in the development of the industry. She added that this will allow the agriculture sector, especially the rice industry, to grow and become more competitive in view of the regional economic integration under the ASEAN economic community.

She explained that half of the P10-billion rice fund will be allotted to the Philippine Center for Post Harvest Development and Mechanization (PhilMech), adding that the funds aim to provide groups of farmers with the machineries needed.

The bicameral committee approved on November 22 the allocation of P10 billion to the RCEF that will be utilized for the improvement of farm machineries and equipment. Villar, who is also the chair of the Senate committee on agriculture and food, said this will authorize the NFA to buy rice from local farmers.

Esports will be a medal event in the 2019 SEA Games

Esports will now be fully included as a medal sport in the 2019 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, the organizing committee of the host country, the Philippines, announced.

The announcement was made in a press conference held by the Philippines South East Asian Games Organizing Committee (PhilSGOC) in partnership with the Philippine Olympic Committee and gaming hardware company Razer on Wednesday in Pasay City.

The partnership aimed to elevate esports to a recognized medal sport at the SEA region’s vaunted biennial event.

Six gold medals for esports will be awarded and split across three gaming platforms — two for console, two for PC and two for mobile.

Only Mobile Legends: Bang Bang — a mobile MOBA game — has been confirmed as one of the esports titles included in the games as of the time of writing.

The other titles are expected to be finalized by December 15. According to the committee, the chosen games will have to conform to the values of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and “should not promote the culture of violence and gambling.”

The esport athletes for each participating country will be chosen through qualifying tournaments and there will be no direct invites for established esport athletes.

We can expect that titles such as Dota 2 and League of Legends, which both have established and thriving competitive scenes in both the host country and SEA as a whole, to be among those announced later.

“We are very thrilled, excited, and honored to have esports in the SEA Games with Razer as a partner. Gamers are an important part of our community,” said PhilSGOC chairman Alan Peter Cayetano.

Esports in the SEA Games has also been accredited by the Asian Electronic Sports Federation.

“This will bring aspiring esports athletes in Southeast Asia to the global stage,” said Razer Chief Strategy Officer Limeng Lee.

The co-founder and CEO of Razer, Min-Liang Tan, revealed in a Facebook post that he visited the Philippines earlier to meet with the PhilSGOC and encourage the inclusion of esports as one of the medal sports in the games.

PhilSGOC representatives will also be meeting with the SEA Games Federation Council when the latter visits the country this week to inspect the proposed venue in Clark , Pampanga.

Esports was already included in the recently-concluded 2018 Asian Games, albeit as a demonstration sport and not as a medal event. Now, many anticipate that the SEA Games will be a trial run for a potential esports event in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Countdown to SEA Games 2019 starts

CLARK FREEPORT, Pampanga, Philippines — Traffic stood still for hours in the cities of Angeles and Mabalacat as the countdown for the 30th Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) 2019 was launched here on Friday night with the unveiling of the SEA Games logo and clock at the Bayanihan Park.

“The activation of this countdown clock represents our optimism for a future that is full of promises. It symbolizes the common aspirations of our Southeast Asian family for a stronger regional community that is bound by friendship, camaraderie, cooperation and teamwork,” Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea said in his speech.

The next 365 days will be challenging for the Philippines, the Malacañang official said, as the nation prepares to host the biggest sports event in the region.

“We are confident that the Philippine SEA Games Organizing Committee with the help of the Philippine Sports Commission and the Philippine Olympic Committee will hurdle all obstacles along the way,” Medialdea said.

Medialdea said the Philippines’ hosting of the event comes at a time when the government has embarked on an ambitious infrastructure development program.

“From our seamless network of highways that traverse the plains of Central Luzon to the Clark International Airport to the world class facilities that we erected for the games, we can confidently claim that the Philippines is indeed ready to become a regional hub of international sporting events,” he said.

This is also a time for the Philippines to show the rest of the world the warm Filipino hospitality and drive to excel in various sports, Medialdea said.

“It is indeed a chance for our athletes to compete and at the same time forge lasting friendships with their counterparts from other countries,” he added.

The Bases Conversion Development Authority (BCDA) said the countdown ceremony was “a time-honored tradition of the SEA Games to signal the start of a series of activities, functions and gatherings leading to the opening of the 30th SEA Games in 2019.”

“The logo – 11 colored linked rings – brings together and incorporates the 11 participating countries laid out in the likeness and figure of the Philippine map,” the BCDA said in a statement.

The 30th SEA Games will be held from Nov. 30 to Dec. 11 next year.

A total of 9,840 athletes will compete in 529 events of 56 sports in 47 venues in three competition hubs here at Clark and at Subic and Metro Manila.

The BCDA said the opening ceremonies will be held at the 55,000-seater Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan on Nov. 30 while the closing ceremonies will be at the 20,000-seater Athletics Stadium at New Clark City in Capas, Tarlac.

The theme “We Win as One” encapsulates unity, togetherness and singularity of purpose and the desire to work together in a diverse community to achieve peace, progress and inclusivity, the BCDA added.

Port infrastructure seen as key to boosting cruise ship tourism

MANILA – Developing better port infrastructure is needed to attract more cruise ship operators to the Philippines, an official of Royal Caribbean Cruises said Tuesday.

Royal Caribbean International (RCI), one of the world’s largest cruise operators said the redevelopment of existing ports or development of new ones must come with considerations that include the growing sizes of modern cruise ships and passenger loads in the region.

“We have the largest ships in the region so we have to ensure that the ports that we go to provide great guest experience once they get off the ship,” said Angie Stephen, Royal Caribbean managing director for Asia Pacific.

Stephen said she sees double digit growth in Asia’s passenger numbers including the Philippines, with their cruise ships doing more port-of-calls next year in Subic, Manila, Ilocos and Boracay.

“We’ve doubled the amount of business that we’ve seen in the last few years in the Philippines and we hope that growth continues,” Stephen said.

But for now, Royal Caribbean does not set sail from the Philippines, but from Singapore, Hong Kong and Shanghai.

The cruise ship operator also hopes to hire more Filipinos.

“The Filipinos are some of the highest-rated in terms of guest satisfaction, the friendliness and the warmth that they give to our guests,” Stephen said.

At any one point, RCI hosts 15,000 Filipino workers on its ships globally, representing one-fourth of its 60,000 total workforce.

RCI has training facilities here in the Philippines. RCI targets 71 sailings next year in Asia, on board its ships Spectrum of the Seas and Quantum of the Seas.

Royal Caribbean made two “test” port-of-calls in July this year, first in Subic then in Manila, on the Ovation of the Seas, RCI’s biggest cruise ship.

Stephen said they received a lot of positive feedback from this, which is leading them to plan regular port-of-calls in the Philippines.

Mr. Pagsi’s legacy in letters and lessons

  • BY Vanessa P. Bicomong
  • June 25, 2023

ronaldo pagsanghan biography

Good teachers instruct; great teachers inspire. Teachers who inspire several generations and leave a legacy beyond education are legendary.

Onofre Pagsanghan is one such teacher.

“Mr. Pagsi” joined the faculty of the Ateneo High School in 1951 and taught for well over four decades. He was the homeroom teacher to the first-year honors section. Mr. Pagsi received the Metrobank Outstanding Teacher Award (one of its first recipients) and countless other accolades for his work in molding both students and teachers. He was who Ateneo wanted to mold its teachers into—new instructors and education students were sent to the high school to observe him. A second-hand experience is not even possible today because strangely, not a single video of Mr. Pagsi teaching in the classroom exists. He was an oft-invited inspirational speaker, traveling continuously even in his 80s, but his family has no video recording of any of these speaking engagements, either.

Fortunately, Mr. Pagsi wrote everything down and his wife, Florinda “Lynn” Pagsanghan, kept them. His columns for Mr. & Ms. Magazine, songs for the Mass and for theater, eulogies he wrote for students and friends, his inspirational speeches—all these survived to allow a glimpse of the Pagsi magic (his Magis).

The best of these were collected by Dr. Vernon “Von” Totanes—Mr. Pagsi’s former student, Dulaang Sibol member and now Ateneo de Manila’s university librarian—into a book called “Pagsibol: A Biography of Onofre R. Pagsanghan in Speeches, Songs, and Other Writings” (Ateneo University Press, Quezon City, 413 pages).

ronaldo pagsanghan biography

“Pagsibol” is part biography, part anthology. Totanes, its content curator and editor, explains its raison d’etre: “’Pagsibol’ is a nontraditional biography that attempts to tell the life story of Onofre Pagsanghan—now 96—using his own words from the 1940s to the 2010s. It organizes them in a way that suggests what he would have written if he had ever tried to write an autobiography. This book was produced because of a dream that many more will ‘hear’ Mr. Pagsi as we, his students and countless others, have heard him.”

Speeches and songs

“Pagsibol” is divided into three parts: “School,” the longest, contains writings from his high school and college days at Ateneo de Manila, plus speeches delivered to students, fellow teachers, and audiences at his numerous inspirational talks; “Theater” includes creative work such as elocution pieces and songs for theatrical plays, and lyrics of Mass songs he cowrote (“Mariang Ina Ko,” “Huwag Kang Mangamba” and “Hindi Kita Malilimutan” among them); and “Family,” the most personal, has writings about family members and lyrical letters to his wife Lynn, his “Sinta.”

In these we indeed “hear” Mr. Pagsi passionately talk about his calling and life purpose: to bring young men closer to Jesus (whom he calls “Kuya Jess”) through theater and to advocate the creative incorporation of Filipino (then called “Pilipino”) into the curriculum. He rechristened the dramatics club Dulaang Sibol—sibol meaning beginnings—and started a true revolution: plays would be written not just in English but in Filipino, too, and high school students would perform them in what is now known as Tanghalang Onofre Pagsanghan.

ronaldo pagsanghan biography

He launched competitions for creative work in Filipino such as “Paligsahang Pandulaan,” whose early winners included now-famed playwrights Paul Dumol and Tony Perez, and “Timpalak Awit,” which then-14-year-old Manoling Francisco (later Fr. Manoling Francisco, S.J.) won by cowriting and composing the melody for “Hindi Kita Malilumutan”—the title of which came from Mr. Pagsi himself.

His advocacy expanded beyond Ateneo: He worked for 15 years in Balik-balik, Tondo, and brought theater to the slums. Thornton Wilder’s “Our Town” was translated into “Doon Po sa Amin” and was one of many Filipino plays that raised funds for the Boys Club in Tondo.

In the 1970s, he was named artistic director for drama at the Folk Arts Theater where he wrote and directed the dance-dramas “Alamat” and “Kristo.” It was also at this time that he conceptualized and guided to fruition what is now known as the Philippine High School for the Arts in Mt. Makiling in 1977, where talented children are trained in theater arts, visual arts, creative writing, dance and music.

This lifelong love of theater and the arts was born in the old Ateneo in Padre Faura, where he watched plays directed by the likes of Jesuits Fr. James Reuter and Fr. Horacio de la Costa. He credits his Jesuit teachers, especially the equally legendary Fr. John Delaney, for believing in him and molding him into the teacher he is. It’s this deep faith in his students that Mr. Pagsi carries with him to this day.

“I look at my boys and I say, ‘Give my boys 20 years, 30 years,’” he says in the book. I worked so much with these boys. I’ve given these boys all that I can give. Wait 20 years and you will see what a bright Philippines it will be.”

Many Pagsi speeches end with a verse from “Fill the World with Love,” a song from the 1969 film, “Goodbye, Mr. Chips”: “In the evening of my life, I shall look to the sunset,/ At a moment in my life when the night is due,/ And the questions I shall ask, only I can answer:/ Was I brave and strong and true?/ Did I fill my world with love, my whole life through?”

“Pagsibol” inspires even if you were not one of the Ateneo “A-Boys” (students in the aforementioned honors class) or part of the audience in one of his many talks. It’s a book to give to teachers who’ve made an impact and to those who aspire to do the same. Parents can also find inspiration: Teaching by example, Mr. Pagsi’s method of choice, is part of every parent’s job description, after all. But it speaks most clearly to those just starting to look for, or have yet to find, their life’s calling. Mr. Pagsi’s words and life show the joy that awaits.

ronaldo pagsanghan biography

Understandably, some sections are more engaging than others especially if one is unfamiliar with Ateneo or Dulaang Sibol. But Mr. Pagsi’s main message rings true and resounds: “Love your calling with passion. It is the meaning of your life.” He uses this quote from the sculptor Rodin as the theme of many speeches tailored to specific audiences. Like Mr. Pagsi, it never grows old.

Totanes says he conceived the book 20 years ago: “I had been editing books at the time and thought I’d like to do this for an author I knew, and for a book that had more meaning for me. And then I started thinking, why not Mr. Pagsi?”

He began to put together the material and continued to work on it in Toronto, where he went for doctorate studies in 2006. “Back then, I’d assumed the book was going to be a collection of published works. I never knew that Mrs. Pagsi kept an archive! Mrs. Pagsi started turning over his speeches to me when I was in Canada. I came back in 2012 and just kept plugging away,” Totanes says.

There would be a long wait for feedback or requested materials, but he and Ali Figueroa (a fellow Sibolista and the book’s designer) would wait and get new material from Mrs. Pagsi to add to the book.

Cloudy to sunny

It was also a race against time. There was an understandable concern about Mr. Pagsi’s health. “When people ask me, I tell them that Mr. Pagsi’s state is like the weather. Sometimes it’s sunny, sometimes there are storms, sometimes it’s cloudy,” Totanes says. “And when the weather is very clear, wow! Something will trigger him and he’ll keep on talking, as if he were back in the classroom.”

Things finally came together during the pandemic and “Pagsibol” marks its completion with this preface: “The first edition of the book was presented to Mr. Pagsi and Lynn on the occasion of their 62nd wedding anniversary on Sept. 8, 2022.” And last June 12, Mr. Pagsi’s 96th birthday, “Pagsibol” was launched at Tanghalang Onofre Pangsanghan with a beaming and grateful Mr. Pagsi greeting friends and former students. Also present was the current crop of Sibolistas who met their founder for the first time.

Given that it lasted almost half of his adult life, Totanes has many stories to tell about the journey that was “Pagsibol.” One of the most touching is close to the end: “When he received the first edition of the book, on their wedding anniversary, it was what you’d call ‘cloudy’ in Mr. Pagsi terms. He recognized us and called me and Ali by name, but he kept saying there was a lot he did not remember anymore. That was in the morning. Later that evening, he heard Mass at the Ateneo High School and happened to pass by one of the classrooms. That triggered a transformation,” Totanes narrates.

“He became a different person when he got to the classroom. He saw where he was and got into his element. Nabuhayan siya. It was evening, but the weather became sunny.” —Contributed INQ“Pagsibol: A Biography of Onofre R. Cristiano Ronaldo

Who Is Cristiano Ronaldo?

In the 2004 FA Cup final, Ronaldo scored Manchester's first three goals and helped them capture the championship. He set a franchise record for goals scored in 2008, before Real Madrid paid a record $131 million for his services the following year.

Among his many accomplishments, he has won a record-tying five Ballon d'Or awards for player of the year, and led Portugal to an emotional victory in the 2016 European Championship. In July 2018, Ronaldo embarked on a new phase of his career by signing with Italian Serie A club Juventus .

Ronaldo was born on February 5, 1985, in Funchal, Madeira, Portugal, a small island off the western coast of the country. Ronaldo is the youngest of four children born to Maria Dolores dos Santos and José Dinis Aveiro. He was named after Ronald Reagan , one of his father's favorite actors.

Ronaldo grew up in a largely working class neighborhood in a small tin-roofed home that overlooked the ocean. Ronaldo was introduced to the game of soccer through his dad, who worked as an equipment manager at a boy's club.

His early life was shaped by hardship, as his father often drank too much. To help keep the children fed and maintain some financial stability, Ronaldo's mother worked as a cook and cleaning person.

In 2005, when Ronaldo was playing for Manchester United, his father died from alcohol-related kidney problems; in 2007, his mother struggled with breast cancer. The former was especially hard for Ronaldo since he and his dad had been close.

The young athlete had often pushed for his father to enter rehab and address his drinking. His father, however, never accepted the offer.

By the time he was 10 years old, Ronaldo was already recognized as a phenomenon — a kid who ate, slept and drank soccer. "All he wanted to do as a boy was play football," his godfather, Fernao Sousa, recalled for British reporters, adding, "He loved the game so much he'd miss meals or escape out of his bedroom window with a ball when he was supposed to be doing his homework."

By his early teens, Ronaldo's talent and legend had grown considerably. After a stint with Nacional da liha da Madeira, he signed with Sporting Portugal in 2001.

Soccer Career

Manchester united.

In 2001, when Ronaldo was just 16 years old, Manchester United paid more than £12 million to sign him — a record fee for a player of his age.

Ronaldo had turned heads with a mesmerizing performance with Portugal against Manchester, wowing even his opponents with his footwork and deft skill. He made such an impression that a number of United players asked their manager to try and sign the young player, which the team soon did.

Ronaldo did not disappoint the soccer world: He showed his promise early on in the 2004 FA Cup final, scoring the team's first three goals and helping them capture the championship. In 2007, Ronaldo signed a five-year, £31 million contract.

A year later, Ronaldo again justified his high salary when he put together one of the club's finest seasons in history, setting a franchise record for goals scored (42), and earning himself the FIFA World Player of the Year honor for 2008. In all, Ronaldo helped steer Manchester United to three premier league titles.

Real Madrid

In 2009, the Spanish soccer club Real Madrid agreed to pay Manchester United a record $131 million for the chance to sign Ronaldo. Ronaldo’s commitment to Manchester United had come under constant question, and speculation swirled that he wanted to play elsewhere, so nobody was all that surprised to see Ronaldo leave.

"I know that they are going to demand a lot of me to be successful at the club and I know that I'm going to have much more pressure than at Manchester United because I was there for many years," Ronaldo told reporters. "But it means a new challenge and is going to help me be the best footballer."

Ronaldo went on to compile an impressive list of individual honors and team trophies. In December 2016, he won his fourth Ballon d'Or award as the sport's player of the year, beating out FC Barcelona's Lionel Messi .

Ronaldo’s 2016 wins included the European Championship, Champions League and Club World Cup, plus individual awards from UEFA and France Football magazine. The following year, he claimed a fifth Ballon d'Or to tie the mark held by his longtime rival, Messi.

After dropping hints that his time with Real was coming to an end, Ronaldo confirmed the rumors in July 2018 by signing with Italian Serie A club Juventus, which paid a $140 million transfer fee to his old Spanish club.

Ronaldo paid tribute to Real fans in an open letter on the club's website, writing: "These years at Real Madrid and in this city of Madrid have quite possibly been the happiest years of my life. I only have feelings of great gratitude to this club, to the fans and to the city. I can only give thanks to all of them for the love and affection that I have received."

By most measures, Ronaldo's debut season with Juventus was a successful one. He scored 10 times in his first 14 games, and headed home the lone goal in a win over AC Milan for the Supercoppa Italiana trophy. After leading his club to its eighth consecutive Serie A title, he was named the league's MVP in May 2019.

Return to Manchester United

On August 27, 2021, it was announced that Ronaldo would return to Manchester United.

Portugal National Team

On July 10, 2016, Ronaldo added an emotional victory to his collection. As his national team's captain, Ronaldo led Portugal to the European Championship final against France.

Although he was sidelined after suffering a knee injury 25 minutes into the match, Portugal went on to win the championship title 1-0, their first international trophy. Ronaldo's teammates said that he motivated them as team captain from the sidelines.

"He gave us a lot of confidence and he said, 'Listen people, I'm sure we will win this Euro so stay together and fight for it,’” fullback Cedric Soares said after Portugal’s victory.

"This is one of the happiest moments in my career,” Ronaldo commented. ”I’ve always said I wanted to win a trophy with the national team and make history. And I did it. Thank God, things went well for us."

Ronaldo got off to a tremendous start at the 2018 World Cup, blasting home three goals in an opening draw vs. Spain, before adding another vs. Morocco to set a European record with his 85th international goal.

However, he was held scoreless in a 2-1 loss to Uruguay in the knockout stage, after which he declined to comment on his future with the national team.

Personal Life

Ronaldo is dating the Spanish model Georgina Rodriguez; the couple was first seen together publicly around November 2016.

In June 2017, the couple welcomed twins, a boy and a girl, via a surrogate. In November 2017, Rodriguez added to their family with the birth of another girl.

Ronaldo’s first child, Cristiano Jr., was born to a former girlfriend in June 2010.

Statue at the Madeira Airport

In March 2017, self-taught sculptor Emanuel Santos unveiled a bronze bust of Ronaldo at the airport in Ronaldo’s hometown of Madeira, Portugal. The statue was ridiculed for its sinister smile and apparent lack of likeness to its subject, though Santos didn't seem to understand the uproar.

"I asked [Ronaldo] what he thought of the result and he said he liked it," said Santos. "He only asked for some wrinkles that give him a certain expression to his face when he laughs to be changed. He said it made him look older and asked for it to be thinned out a bit to make it smoother and more jovial."

In the wake of the negative publicity, the sports site Bleacher Report commissioned Santos to fashion another sculpture of Ronaldo. This one, unveiled in March 2018, earned praise for more closely resembling the soccer great, though its creator continued to defend his original work.

"I liked the result [of the first bust] and was really proud of it," he told Bleacher Report. "And if I had to do it again, I would make everything exactly the same."

Sexual Assault Investigation

In 2018, police in Las Vegas, Nevada, reopened a 9-year old investigation into claims that Ronaldo had raped a woman in his hotel room. The accuser also filed a civil lawsuit against the star athlete.

The following summer, the district attorney for Clark County, Nevada, announced that he had reviewed the case and would not be pursuing criminal charges against Ronaldo.
