Queen (2018) Malayalam Movie Review – Veeyen

Dijo Jose Antony’s ‘Queen’ is a flamboyant celebration of the campus, with all the colours, vigour and liveliness intact. However, beneath all this panache and flair lurks a theme that constantly shifts tone, that is imbalanced in tenor, and which carries a faint sense of familiarity all through.

Another engineering college, and if the initial scenes of ‘Queen’ reminds you of a film as ‘Chunkz’ you only have the all-male mechanical engineering batch to blame. When Chinnu (Saniya Iyyappan) flounces in, the boys are all aghast, annoyed, amused and finally charmed.

A very fair appraisal of ‘Queen’ would grant it the status of a campus film that is surprisingly unsoiled, given especially the recent flurry of college capers steeped in obscenities. The campus in ‘Queen’ is much more grounded and has less of the ogling, drooling, saliva dripping freaks disguised as students that you have recently seen elsewhere.

The former half of the film in particular zooms ahead at a brilliant pace and even if there is zilch about it that strikes you as new, there is also little about it that you would find tedious or repugnant. It’s here that Dijo leaves a mark of his own and makes you believe in the potential that he very obviously has.

However, post-interval, ‘Queen’ takes a detour or a dip rather and never really recuperates from the terrible plummet that it has. The campus scene retreats to the rear seat and the film decides that it gravely needs to make a statement or two on contemporary social issues to be taken seriously.

There is nothing wrong with that of course, but these statements that the film makes appear all over the place. The court room drama that soon ensues, is again reminiscent of a few other very impressive films that we have got to watch in recent times, but ‘Queen’ neither reaches their stature nor leaves us asking for more.

Sharis Mohammed and Jebin Joseph Antony try their very best to bring in some vivacity to the script, even as the latter half, replete with logical inconsistencies, struggle to keep its head high above water. At one hundred and sixty minutes, ‘Queen’ is a long film without doubt, which has a few splendid frames by Suresh Gopi and a peppy musical score by Jake Bijoy.

‘Queen’ also has a group of youngsters who are full of beans, and leading the pack is Saniya Iyyappan, who establishes that she’s much more than a pretty face. There is a whole group of young men to lend her support, and there is also Salim Kumar in a sparkling cameo, along with other actors as Vijayaraghavan, Sethulekshmi and Nandu.

‘Queen’ could very easily add itself to the endless list of campus movies, but is unlikely to be acutely discussed on the pertinence of its theme, as it must have hoped for. Beyond the initial jubilations that are bound to arise out of the campus mood that it spills all over, ‘Queen’ would probably be remembered more as the debut of a film maker who holds a lot of promise, and yet who only manages to leave a middling mark with his first film.

ക്വീൻ ഇൗസ് കിങ്

തുടക്കത്തിന്റെ പതർച്ചകളേതുമില്ലാതെ പുതുനിരയെ വച്ച് കാലിക പ്രധാന്യത്തിന്റെ മേമ്പൊടിയോടെ ഒരുക്കിയ കൊച്ചുസിനിമയാണ് ക്വീൻ. ഷോർട്ട് ഫിലിമുകളിലൂടെ ശ്രദ്ധേയനായ ഡിജോ ജോസ് ആന്റണിയുടെ ആദ്യ സ്വതന്ത്ര സിനിമ. വിരലിലെണ്ണാവുന്ന ചില താരങ്ങളൊഴിച്ചാൽ ചിത്രത്തിലെ ബാക്കിയെല്ലാ അഭിനേതാക്കളും പുതുമുഖങ്ങൾ‌. എങ്കിലും ആദ്യ ചിത്രത്തിലൂടെ തന്നെ മലയാള സിനിമയിൽ വ്യക്തമായ സ്ഥാനം ഉറപ്പിക്കാൻ ഇവർക്കായി എന്നു നിസ്സംശയം പറയാം.

ചിലയിടങ്ങളിലൊക്കെ കല്ലുകടി അനുഭവപ്പെടുന്നുണ്ടെങ്കിലും കാലിക പ്രസക്തമായ ഒരു വിഷയം രസച്ചരടിൽ കോർത്ത് തനിമ കൈവിടാതെ അവതരിപ്പിക്കാനായതാണ് ക്വീനിന്റെ മേന്മ. എഞ്ചിനീയറിങ് കോളജുകളിലെ വിവിധ പാഠ്യവിഭാഗങ്ങളും അതിലെ മെക്കാനിക്കൽ എന്ന ഡിപ്പാർട്ടുമെന്റുമാണ് ക്വീനിന്റെ കഥാപശ്ചാത്തലം. പൊതുവെ പുരുഷകേന്ദ്രീകൃതമെന്ന് പറയപ്പെടുന്ന മെക്ക് ഡിപ്പാർട്ടുമെന്റിൽ രണ്ടാം വർഷം മുതൽ ഒരു പെൺകുട്ടിയുമെത്തുന്നതോടെയാണ് സിനിമയുടെ ആരംഭം. സിനിമ ഉൾക്കൊള്ളുന്ന വിഷയം എന്താണെന്ന് ആദ്യ സീനിൽ തന്നെ സൂചനകൾ നൽകുന്നുണ്ടെങ്കിലും പിന്നീടങ്ങോട്ട് കാര്യത്തിലെത്താന്‍ രണ്ടാം പകുതി വരെ കാത്തിരിക്കണം. 

പതിവു ക്യാമ്പസ് തമാശകളുമായി ചിരിക്കുള്ള വക കണ്ടെത്തുകയാണ് ക്വീനിന്റെ ആദ്യ പകുതിയുടെ പ്രധാന ദൗത്യം. ഒരു പെണ്‍കുട്ടി ക്ലാസിലേക്ക് കടന്നുവരുമ്പോഴുള്ള കൗതുകവും ശത്രുതയുമെല്ലാം ഇതിലുണ്ട്. ഇൗ പെണ്‍കുട്ടി പിന്നീടങ്ങോട്ട് മെക്കാനിക്കൽ ഡിപ്പാട്ട്മെന്റിന്റെ റാണിയായി മാറുന്നു. സൗഹൃദത്തിന്റെ ആഴവും ക്യാമ്പസിലെ മറ്റു ക്ലാസുകാരോടുള്ള തർക്കങ്ങളുമായി സിനിമ മുന്നോട്ടുപോകുന്നു. ക്യാമ്പസിൽ നിന്നു പുറത്താക്കപ്പെടുന്ന വിദ്യാർഥികൾ  തിരിച്ചെത്തുന്നിടത്താണ് ആദ്യ പകുതിക്ക് തിരശീല വീഴുന്നത്. 

തമാശകളുടെ ആദ്യ പകുതിക്ക് ശേഷം ക്ലീഷെകളുമായാണ് ചിത്രത്തിന്റെ രണ്ടാം പകുതിയുടെ തുടക്കം. രോഗിയായ നായികയുടെ കുടുംബ പശ്ചാത്തലവും സാഹചര്യങ്ങളും മനസിലാക്കുന്ന ആണ്‍പട പിന്നീട് അവളോട് കൂടുതൽ അടുക്കുന്നു. വീണ്ടും ക്യാമ്പസിലേക്കെത്തുന്ന ചിത്രം യുവത്വത്തിന് ആഘോഷിക്കാനുള്ള വക രണ്ടാം പകുതിയിലും നൽകും. മോഹൻലാൽ മുതല്‍ വിജയ് വരെയുള്ള താരങ്ങളുടെ റഫറൻസുകളിലൂടെ ആരാധകരെയും കയ്യിലെടുക്കാൻ ശ്രമമുണ്ട്.

സമകാലിക കേരളത്തിന്റെ കണ്ണിലെ കരടായി മാറിയിരിക്കുന്ന വിഷയത്തെ ഗൗരവം കൈവിടാതെ തന്നെ ക്വീൻ അവതരിപ്പിക്കുന്നു. ജിഷ കേസുൾപ്പെടെയുള്ള വിഷയങ്ങളെ സമൂഹം കൈകാര്യം ചെയ്ത രീതിയെയും ക്വീൻ കണക്കിന് വിമർശിക്കുന്നു. നിലവിലെ രാഷ്ട്രീയ സാഹചര്യങ്ങളുമായി ഏറ്റുമുട്ടുന്ന ക്ഷുഭിത കാമ്പസ് യൗവ്വനങ്ങളെയും ക്വീനിൽ കാണാം. ഭരണകൂടവും നീതിന്യായ വ്യവസ്ഥയും ചോദ്യം ചെയ്യപ്പെടേണ്ടതാണെന്നു പറഞ്ഞു വയ്ക്കുന്ന സിനിമ യുവത്വത്തിന്റെ സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യ പ്രഖ്യാപനത്തിലൂടെയാണ് അവസാനിക്കുന്നത്. 

അങ്കമാലി ഡയറീസിന് ശേഷം കുറേയേറെ പുതുമുഖങ്ങളെ മലയാള സിനിമയ്ക്ക് പരിചയപ്പെടുത്തുന്നത് ക്വീനിലൂടെയായിരിക്കും‍. സാനിയ ഈയപ്പൻ, ധ്രുവൻ, എൽദോ, അശ്വിൻ, അരുണ്‍ തുടങ്ങിയവരാണ് ചിത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന വേഷങ്ങളിലെത്തുന്നത്.സലീം കുമാർ, ശ്രീജിത് രവി, വിജയ രാഘവന്‍, നന്ദു, ലിയോണ തുടങ്ങിയ താരങ്ങളും ചിത്രത്തിലുണ്ട്. ഇതിനു പുറമെ ക്യാമ്പസിലെ ചെറുതും വലുതുമായ വേഷങ്ങൾ കൈകാര്യം ചെയ്ത യുവാക്കൾ വേറെയും.  ഷാരിസ് മുഹമ്മദ്, ജെബിൻ ജോസഫ് ആന്റണി എന്നിവരാണ് ക്വീനിന്റെ കഥ, തിരക്കഥ, സംഭാഷണം എന്നിവ രചിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്. 

ഇതിനകം തന്നെ യു ട്യൂബിൽ ഹിറ്റായി മാറിക്കഴിഞ്ഞ വെണ്ണിലവേ എന്ന കല്യാണപ്പാട്ടുൾപ്പെടെ ചിത്രത്തിലെ ഗാനങ്ങളും മികച്ചു നിൽക്കുന്നു. എഞ്ചിനീയറിങ് വിദ്യാർഥികൾ തന്നെ അണിയിച്ചൊരുക്കിയ ചിത്രമായതിനാൽ ബിടെക്ക് കോളജുകളിലെ സാഹചര്യങ്ങളുമായി ചിത്രം നല്ല രീതിയില്‍ ചേർന്നു പോകുന്നു. വലിയ പ്രതീക്ഷകളില്ലാതെ തിയേറ്ററിൽ കയറിയാൽ തമാശയും ആക്ഷനും സസ്പെൻസും മാസുമെല്ലാമുള്ള ഒരു ചെറിയ സിനിമ കണ്ടിറങ്ങാം.

'Queen' review: Dramatic twists ruin a fun start

Queen, Dijo Jose Antony's debut directorial venture, might appear to be a youth entertainer but it discusses a  socially-relevant issue, though leaving space for improvement.

A tried-and-tested concept of a girl taking admission in a fully-male mechanical branch forms the crux. It begins on a very interesting note. We are taken through some feel good moments, where ragging, student rivalries, friendship and celebration are the norm.

The highlight of Queen has to be its beautiful portrayal of cross-gender friendship.

Now, when we get all cosy for a comic youth entertainer, comes the twist. And, this is where Queen falters. Post interval, it takes a sudden genre change to a women empowerment flick, leaving you wondering whether it is the same movie. From humour to a court room drama, the transformation comes without a warning and you feel the jerk. The sudden change in storyline looks very unconvincing as it struggles to keep in with the pace of the early half.

While it was unadulterated fun in the first half, the second half is more dramatic. Serious dialogues, tiresome twists and unconnected sequences makes it tedious. A guest role by Salim Kumar towards the climax is the only saving grace and manages to salvage this movie from a terrible ending.  

Queen ails from the lack of a proper edit. Many sequences were unnecessary and could have easily done without. At times, the film looks struggling to focus on a point. And, it is for the same reason that Queen, which began on a good note, fails to end well.

While one has to acknowledge that Queen is Dijo's maiden effort, he could have filtered out the melodrama overdose in the second part. The lead roles are played by newcomers with Saniya Iyaappan essaying  Chinnu, a smart and confident girl who wins over the hearts of her arrogant classmates. Jakes Bejoy's music was fresh, especially the song 'Vennilave'.

Queen might get thumbs up for its watchable first half. But, except for bits and parts, it is unlikely to be remembered in the long run.

ഈട കാണാൻ പോയപ്പോൾ ആണ് ക്വീൻ എന്ന സിനിമയുടെ ട്രെയിലർ ആദ്യമായി തിയേറ്ററിൽ കണ്ടത്. പുതുമകളൊന്നും തന്നെ തോന്നാത്തതിനാൽ എല്ലാ ആഴ്ചകളിലും ഒന്നോ രണ്ടോ വച്ച് മലയാളത്തിൽ ഇറങ്ങാറുള്ള പ്രത്യേകിച്ച് ലക്ഷ്യമൊന്നുമില്ലാത്ത ചവറുകളിൽ ഒന്നായി അതിനെ എണ്ണി. ഇവനൊന്നും‌ വേറെ പണിയില്ലേന്ന് മനസിൽ പറയുകയും ചെയ്തു. ദൈവമേ കൈതൊഴാം കാണാൻ പോയപ്പോൾ തൊട്ട് സ്ക്രീനിൽ ഫസ്റ്റ് ഡേ ഫസ്റ്റ് ഷോയ്ക്ക് ക്വീൻ കുട്ടികൾ ആഘോഷ്മാക്കുന്നത് കണ്ടപ്പോൾ കരുതി, ഈ പിള്ളേരുടെ ഒരു കാര്യം. താനാ സേർന്ത കൂട്ടം കാണാൻ പോയപ്പോൾ അടുത്ത സ്ക്രീനിൽ ക്വീൻ എപ്പൊഴേ ഫുള്ളാണ്. അവിടെ ടിക്കറ്റ് കിട്ടാത്തവരാാ സൂര്യയുടെ പടത്തിന് പാഞ്ഞുകേറുന്നത്. തിയേറ്ററുകാർ സാക്ഷ്യപ്പെടുത്തി ആ പടത്തിന് എല്ലാ ഷോയും ഫുള്ള് തന്നെയാ, ശരിക്കും ഞെട്ടി. ഇന്നലെ നാലാം ദിനം ക്വീൻ കണ്ടപ്പോൾ മനസിലാവുന്നു, ഇത് അർഹിക്കാത്ത ഒരു വിജയമേ അല്ല എന്ന്.

പതിവ് ക്യാമ്പസ് ചിത്രമെന്ന ലേബലിംഗ്..

ട്രെയിലറിലും പോസ്റ്ററുകളിലും മറ്റുമൊക്കെ ഒരു പതിവ് ക്യാമ്പസ് ചിത്രമായി തന്നെയാണ് അണിയറ പ്രവർത്തകർ ക്വീനിനെ അവതരിപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്. സ്പെസിഫൈ ചെയ്ത് പറഞ്ഞാൽ എഞ്ചിനീയറിങ്ങ് കോളേജ് ക്യാമ്പസ് ചിത്രം. കേരളത്തിൽ ഇന്ന് തിയേറ്ററിൽ പോയി സിനിമ കാണുന്ന പ്രേക്ഷകരിൽ നല്ലൊരു ശതമാനം എഞ്ചിനിയറിംഗ് സ്റ്റുഡന്റ്സും എഞ്ചിനീയറിംഗ് കഴിഞ്ഞ എക്സ്-സ്റ്റുഡന്റ്സും ആണെന്നിരിക്കെ അത് സംവിധായകന്റെ ഒരു തന്ത്രമായിരുന്നു എന്ന് വേണം കരുതാൻ. പ്രത്യേകിച്ച് പുതുമകളൊന്നുമുണ്ടാവില്ല എന്ന പ്രതീക്ഷയിൽ തിയേറ്ററിൽ എത്തുന്നവർക്ക് മുന്നിൽ ആദ്യമേതന്നെ ശബ്ദമായി സ്ക്രീനിൽ വന്ന് സംവിധായകൻ തെല്ലൊരു നെടുവീർപ്പോടെ പറയുന്നു, "ആദ്യത്തെ പടമാണ് കൂടെയുള്ളത് ഒരുപറ്റം പുതുമുഖങ്ങളും. മിന്നിച്ചേക്കണേ കൂട്ടരേ.."

ഫ്രെഷായ മുഖങ്ങൾ സ്മാർട്ട് ആയ ക്യാമ്പസ്..

പത്ത് കൊല്ലം മുൻപ് ആന്ധ്രയിലും കേരളത്തിലും ഒന്നുപോലെ ഹിറ്റ് ആയ 'ഹാപ്പി ഡെയ്സി'ന്റെത് പോലൊരു തുടക്കമാണ് ക്വീനിന്റെതും. എഞ്ചിനിയറിംഗ് കോളേജിലെ തുടക്കദിനവും അവിടുത്തെ കുഞ്ഞുകുഞ്ഞുതമാശകളുമൊക്കെയായി. ട്രെയിലറിൽ കണ്ട പോലെ തന്നെ തീർത്തും ഫ്രഷായ മുഖങ്ങൾ ആണ് ക്യാമ്പസ് മുഴുവൻ. സിനിമ ഫോക്കസ് ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നത് പുരുഷ സാമ്രാജ്യമായ മെക്കാനിക്കൽ ബ്രാഞ്ചിലേക്കാണ്. ബാലു, എൽദോ, കൂലി, ജബൻ, വർക്കിച്ചൻ , ജിമ്മൻ, മാട എന്നിവരൊക്കെയാണ് അവിടുത്തെ താരങ്ങൾ. പുരുഷത്വാഘോഷങ്ങളും അർമാദങ്ങളുമായി മുന്നോട്ട് പോവുന്നതിനിടെ റോയൽ മെക്കിലേക്ക് ഒരു പെൺകുട്ടി വരുന്നു. ചിന്നു, ചെക്കന്മാരുടെ മസിലുപിടിയൊക്കെ അവൾ ഉടച്ചുകയ്യിൽ കൊടുക്കുകയും കൂട്ടത്തിലൊരാളായി മാറുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു. തീർത്തും ക്ലീഷെ എന്നു പറയാവുന്ന ഈ വൺ ലൈൻ ഒട്ടും ബോറടിപ്പിക്കാതെ സ്മാർട്ട് ആയിത്തന്നെ സംവിധായകൻ വർക്കൗട്ട് ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു. സ്റ്റുഡന്റ്സ് നിറഞ്ഞ ഒരു തിയേറ്ററിൽ ആണെങ്കിൽ ആഘോഷം തന്നെയായി ആസ്വദിക്കാം.

ചെറിയ ട്വിസ്റ്റും വലിയ വഴിത്തിരിവും

ഇത്തരം പടങ്ങളിൽ പൊതുവെ കാണാറുള്ള ബെറുപ്പിക്കലുകളും ദ്വയാർത്ഥ്വ-ഏകാർത്ഥ കമ്പിഡയലോഗുകളുമൊന്നുമില്ലാതെ ക്വീൻ മുന്നേറുന്നതിനിടെ ചിന്നുവിന്റെ ജീവിതത്തിന് ഒരു ട്വിസ്റ്റ് കൊണ്ട് വരുന്നു. പുതുമയൊന്നും പറയാനില്ലാത്ത ഒരു ഐറ്റമായതിനാൽ 'ഇതാപ്പൊ വല്യൊരു ട്വിസ്റ്റ്' എന്നും പറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുമ്പോഴാണ് സിനിമ ഒട്ടും പ്രതീക്ഷിക്കാത്ത ലെവലുകളിലേക്ക് കടന്നുപോവുന്നത്. ക്യാമ്പസിൽ നിന്ന് പുറത്തുകടക്കുന്ന സംവിധായകൻ പോലീസ് , ഭരണകൂടം, നീതിന്യായവ്യവസ്ഥ എന്നിവയുടെയൊക്കെ കാപട്യങ്ങളിലേക്കൊക്കെ നമ്മളെ കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുപോയി സാമൂഹിക യാഥാർത്ഥ്യങ്ങളിലേക്ക് ഉന്തിയിട്ട് 100 ഡിഗ്രി സെൽഷ്യസിൽ തിളപ്പിച്ചു കളയുന്നു.

'Queen Elizabeth' review | Meera Jasmine, Narain star in vibrant, slightly quirky film

Imagine the boss who threatens to cut your salary just because you stepped out of the office for 10 minutes. Or the arrogant friend who cuts you off from her life simply because you are inconsequential. That's Elizabeth Angel rolled into one for you, the devil lady too full of herself to give you a second glance.

Starring Meera Jasmine as the titular character, 'Queen Elizabeth' is a fun, slightly unconventional tale centred around an urban woman, who faces some lows in her life. Though not as classy as Miranda Priestly in 'Devil Wears Prada' or quirky as Priya S Nair in 'My Boss', Elizabeth Angel is a woman with some mystery who many would love to decode as the film progresses.

When Elizabeth, who runs an architecture firm, learns she is ill, she decides to turn her life around, interacting with the people she never acknowledged before. She even becomes extremely generous, donating huge sums of money to charity causes. The plotline is pretty basic and not as ambitious as M Padmakumar's previous outings, including 'Joseph', but for someone who is better known for crime thrillers, he has done a pretty good job with this feel-good genre.

Just when you get invested in Elizabeth's emotions, the makers deliver a twist, that might leave you dissatisfied. The film is engaging, nevertheless. Much of the credit goes to the lead characters, played by Meera and Narain, who are pairing up once again after their wonderful outings in the evergreen film 'Achuvinte Amma' and 'Minnaminnikoottam'. Narain's boyish charm is still intact, and the audience is taken on a ride down memory lane when the song 'Ente Khalbile Vennilavu Nee' from 'Classmates' plays in the background as the camera zooms in on him.

Queen Elizabeth touches briefly upon certain taboos like carnal desire in a woman, which is praise-worthy. The treatment, however, could have been better. Overall, the movie is quite charming and will work for those who prefer watching films in the romantic comedy genre.

Movie review: Queen is an incredibly nuanced film

The internal chatter of a bride in the making, the blinking lights of the heartshaped 'Vijay weds Rani' sign that never quite finds its place, and the gradual development of each dancing member's role within the family, are the threads weaving the complex fabric of Kangna Ranaut's character as she opens Queen. The delightful film tells a simple story: that of a young Indian girl from Rajouri Garden in New Delhi, dumped by her fiance, played by Rajkumar Yadav, two days before her wedding, who chooses to go on the prebooked honeymoon to France and Amsterdam on her own anyway. The standard Indian cinematic response would involve a tedious amount of breast beating and emotional drama; the reconstruction of this virginal object of pity rebuilding her life, and fighting society to redemption.

Instead, Dadi, she of the grey stylishly cropped hair, pulls up a stool and tells her weeping grandchild of the lover she once had, and how one day she will one day be thankful this happened. Her nonplussed but supportive parents drive the daughter who has never left Delhi in an uncomfortable, restrained silence to the airport, because that is what will make her feel better. And though Rani can barely hail a cab or lift her suitcase, by god, she is brave enough, or strung out enough, to try.

And that is the film's beauty: its pauses, its silences, its not saying too much when it can say less. Rani, angry, hurt, almost running away from this mess, has a mental process which she is allowed the dignity of. Cocoon-like, Vikas Bahl allows the woman to emerge from the turmoil, in her own way, on her own terms, and that is uniquely a mastery of his own.

It is in the small things you find his infinite patience: The hesitation of a single-woman on a journey to ask a stranger to take a picture, Rani slipping easily back into the comfort of Hindi even with foreigners speaking other languages; her non-judgmental acceptance of companionship from the French-Indian slutty single mom in Paris played by the octave stretching Lisa Haydon. Bahl defines circumstances by gestures immediately recognizable to the women who have lived them. The fine balances are everywhere: in the gap between knowing and not knowing, in choosing to dissociate and casting judgement. It is an incredibly nuanced film. Virgin that she has been, Rani finds her own terms, 'sex' 'lip to lip kiss' 'yahan pe chalta hai aisa?' single motherhood, for worlds she has not encountered. (Ranaut holds her own in the dialogues credits for this, and deservedly so). Bahl allows the inexperienced woman to prod and seek like a child who does not judge, she just does not know. Much is told through gestures: a raised eyebrow, a widening of the eyes, a subtle shift in body language from diffident tourist in kurtis to a woman adopting sleeveless tops and skirts. Kangna occupies the nuances like she was born in them. The once affianced keep each others numbers, the families, neighbours and family friends, continue to keep in touch. There is a reality of middle class upbringing that defines the characters' actions. The film acquires a pace which it wraps around its lead character and that it remains true to until the last note. The mandatory 'nice girl meets alcohol' scene is achieved with a mood swinging adorability that will rank with Amitabh Bachchan's Amar Akbar Anthony when the legends are counted. Few scenes seem contrived, though there are those too, in the cooking contest. But by then, especially coming just after the hilarious transcontinental chain telephone call in search of the 'English word for hing' scene, these become forgivable. There are just too many glorious right boxes this film checks.

Rajkummar Rao, a convincing London educated jerk, forces a reluctant dislike, first with his ardent pursuit of Rani, and then his easy betrayal of her. His words are chameleon-like, smooth with just the right amount of self justification. Her motley friends seem exaggerated in parts, but they grow on you as an odd, ill-fitting organic crew. Their backstories seem irrelevant, and serve no purpose beyond being a foil for her own misfortunes; their trust and bond come too easy for the duration she is among them. But these are mild discordances. Body language is Kangna's most powerful tool. From the languid shoulder-dropping shuffle to the confident canter of a woman set free, a woman happy in herself, Queen is a journey of self transformation every woman, dumped at the altar or not, must take. Telugu, Malayalam, Tamil and Kannada remakes of ‘Queen’, trailer is out

2014 blockbuster ‘Queen’ has been remade in four South Indian languages, viz, Telugu, Malayalam, Tamil and Kannada. And the trailer of all has been released on Friday almost at the same time. The films are just like the original one, shot to shot. Kangana Ranaut played the lead role in Vikas Bahl ‘s directorial.

The story explores the journey of a young girls who has been ditched by her fiance just a day before her marriage. Then she decides to go on a honeymoon to Paris, alone, where she make some new friends, and meet people who change the course of her life.

The another common link, other than story, between all the four movies is, Amit Trivedi has given music to all of them. They all will release sometime in June, next year.

That Is Mahalakshmi: Telugu remake

Tamanaah is playing the role, which was originally played by Kangana Ranaut.
