Speech on Importance of Discipline

Discipline is like a magic key that opens doors to success. It helps you stay focused, manage your time, and reach your goals. Without it, life can become a jumbled mess.

Think about a well-oiled machine. That’s what your life can be with discipline. It’s not about harsh rules, but about creating a smooth path towards your dreams.

1-minute Speech on Importance of Discipline

Good morning everyone!

Today, I would like to talk about an essential key to success that we sometimes overlook – Discipline. It is the bridge between our goals and our achievements. It is the glue that binds inspiration with achievement, dreams with reality, and capabilities with results.

Discipline is the habit of acting according to certain rules. It ensures that we respond to life in ways that prioritize our highest values and goals. One might have all the resources, ideas, and plans, but without discipline, it is almost impossible to bring any of them to life.

In school, discipline helps us acquire knowledge and grow as individuals. It motivates us to stay focused on our studies, complete assignments on time, and interact respectfully with teachers and classmates. In the workplace, discipline is equally important. It helps us meet deadlines, build a career, and maintain a healthy work-life balance.

To conclude, discipline is a critical component of success. It fuels our motivation and keeps us on the right pathway. It is a quality that helps us lead our lives in a productive, meaningful, and fulfilling way. So, let’s embrace discipline, let it guide our actions, and watch how it brings us closer to our dreams.

2-minute Speech on Importance of Discipline

Good morning everyone, I am here today to talk about a topic that is fundamental to our success in both personal and professional life. The topic for today’s discussion is ‘Importance of Discipline’.

In our personal life, discipline plays a crucial role in shaping our character and attitude towards life. It curbs our impulses and reminds us to stay grounded. It helps us make the right decisions even when faced with adversity. It is discipline that helps us stick to our routines, to exercise regularly, eat healthily, wake up early, and live an organized life.

Moreover, discipline is not just about leading a well-structured life, it’s about self-control. It’s about being able to control our desires, our actions, and our reactions. A disciplined person doesn’t react impulsively; instead, he or she evaluates the situation and then responds in the best possible manner.

In the professional domain, discipline is equally, if not more, important. It is the backbone of any organization. It helps us to deliver our work on time, meet deadlines, abide by the rules, and maintain the decorum of the workplace. In the corporate world, discipline differentiates a leader from a follower. It is what drives innovation and growth.

Discipline is not just for personal benefit, it’s also for the good of society. A disciplined society is a harmonious society. When people abide by rules and regulations, it creates an environment conducive to growth and prosperity.

In conclusion, discipline is not a restriction but a tool for liberation. It frees us from the shackles of unproductive habits and impulsive behaviors. It’s the key to unlock the door to success and happiness. It is not something that restricts us, rather it is something that guides us towards a productive path, helping us make the most of our lives.

Speech On Discipline

In the pursuit of personal development, discipline emerges as a powerful but often underestimated force. This article highlights the importance of discipline and how it impacts our journey towards self-improvement. Be it setting goals, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, or honing new skills, discipline plays a vital role in achieving success.

Discipline involves a series of habits and behaviors, including consistency, focus, and self-control. It requires a willingness to make sacrifices, overcome obstacles, and face challenges. By adopting discipline, we gain the power to break free from procrastination, eliminate distractions, and prioritize what really matters.

Studies have shown that discipline has a profound impact on personal development. It increases our ability to learn and retain information, builds resilience, and promotes a strong work ethic. Furthermore, discipline promotes a sense of responsibility, self-confidence, and inner strength. It empowers us to make positive choices, stay committed to our goals, and ultimately live a purposeful and fulfilling life.

Speech No.1: Speech On Discipline For Students

  • Speaker: School And College Student, Teacher
  • Audience: Students, Teachers, General Publi c

Good morning

Respected principal, teachers, and my dear school fellows

Although we are aware of what discipline is, do we understand what it actually means?

The definition of discipline goes well beyond simply respecting authority figures. Everyone, including non-living things and animals, should be disciplined. Every day’s sunrise in the east and every night’s sunset in the west are likewise forms of discipline.

In practically every aspect of life, including schools, homes, places of worship, playgrounds, and, in today’s world, even online, discipline is required. Being disciplined is essential for success. You need self-assurance and a high level of attention in order to thrive in life. And the only way to achieve these things is through discipline. Being punctual is the first indication of the subsequent discipline in life, which brings about a lot of changes in our daily lives.

You all are in uniform and sitting quietly and listening to me; isn’t that also a part of discipline?

Discipline is essential in all aspects of life. Life will be in shambles without it. In colleges and universities, discipline is really essential. Results won’t improve if students disregard the regulations set out by the headmaster and teachers for the benefit of all students. The students will eventually suffer. Such education, in my opinion, is pointless if it does not instill discipline.

Any country’s future is in its students, and discipline is essential to their growth and success. In order to develop a student’s character, demeanor, and behavior, discipline is crucial. It assists kids in developing into capable, accountable, well-organized, and goal-oriented people. Students who are disciplined also learn to respect authority, rules, and regulations.

In extracurricular activities like athletics, music, and drama, discipline is also crucial. Disciplined students are more likely to practice frequently, put in extra effort, and advance their abilities. This improves success in contests and events and fosters the growth of kids’ sense of leadership, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Following rules and regulations is only one aspect of discipline; another is forming positive habits and values. Disciplined students acquire traits like honesty, diligence, and timeliness.

However, there are so many people who are undisciplined. Our nation’s most urgent issue is indiscipline. When there is no discipline, corruption occurs.

In the words of Aristotle, “Discipline is the obedience to rules formed by society for the good of all.”

Therefore, it is the practice of following rules. It is prompt compliance with the ruling party’s instructions. We have to abide by certain rules everywhere we go. Man exists in society; it is only through society that he can advance. Therefore, the good of an individual must be for the benefit of society. An individual occasionally needs to put the interests of the community ahead of their own. Discipline achieves this.

In the end, discipline is necessary for success in both the personal and professional spheres of life. We can uncover hidden potential and achieve more than we ever imagined by fostering this characteristic within ourselves.

How do I maintain it?

By establishing specific objectives and developing a plan to reach them, one may maintain discipline. You’ll be able to focus and stay motivated by using this. Maintaining your regimen even when you don’t feel like it requires consistency. Distractions frequently cause our efforts to maintain discipline to fail. Distractions should be minimized or avoided altogether to prevent this.

Therefore, discipline is a crucial quality of life that aids people in achieving their objectives and leading successful lives. Disciplined students are more likely to succeed academically, form positive habits and values, and grow into mature, responsible adults.

As a result, it’s critical that children develop discipline in their lives from a young age and incorporate it into their daily routines.

Thank you for being disciplined.

Sample Speech on Discipline

Good morning/afternoon respected professors and my fellow friends. Today I’ll be vocalizing on the very common, yet essential topic of Discipline. One of the greatest philosophers- Aristotle said, “Through self-discipline comes freedom.”

It makes people wonder how an act which is often used to draw boundaries, gives humans freedom. Despite being perceived as a penalizing treatment, discipline is the name of the game in any field for people of any age. Everything in nature has a definite cycle at a given time. The sun rises at dawn and sets at dusk. Any action by nature that takes the place bar of their specific times is deemed as odd. In the same manner, humans must work according to their circadian rhythm and work on a specific schedule. Does a shabby and disorderly person ever come off as appealing?

Discipline can be developed by various means. Induced discipline means developing the skill by extrinsic factors like watching or following the disciplined nature of your parents, teachers, or an ideal model.  Self-discipline comes from the intrinsic will to structure your days and work in an orderly manner. Both methods require a high level of patience and self-control. If we pick up any successful and celebrated individual, we’ll notice the amount of discipline they follow in their lives. From abstaining from procrastination to making productive use of your free time; your skill reflects greatly on your future self. However, being disciplined doesn’t mean you miss out on great gatherings and parties. Prioritize your work and time yourself for each task. Once you practice discipline, you’ll be surprised at how much free time you have left in the end. The process and methods of discipline can be different for each individual. One can never understand the external factors in anyone’s lives unless we’ve lived in their shoes.

A disciplined person isn’t formed overnight. It requires a considerable amount of effort and motivation to become a better person than you were yesterday. You can start by simply writing what you do each day and then timing each task. Make a realistic plan that you believe will work for you. Reward yourself often for positive reinforcement and develop intrinsic motivation. Be consistent in your practice. There will surely come days where we all feel like skipping every task which is alright. But, make sure you keep a watch and don’t let momentary fatigue ruin your schedule. Read and educate yourself about great leaders and global personalities that have achieved greatness due to this simple skill. Speech on Self Discipline and Its Importance for Students in English

Self-Discipline, contrary to popular belief, is not a severe or limited behaviour or a restrictive lifestyle. In its most basic form, Self-Discipline is the ability to do what needs to be done even when you don't want to. Self-Discipline is required at all times, whether you are happy or sad. It's just that when you're feeling good, happy, and motivated, you don't have to work as hard to maintain your self-control.

In today's fast-paced world, Self-Discipline is crucial for success. With rising distractions and reducing attention spans, it is very easy to be left behind in a world that operates at a neck-breaking pace. Self-Discipline forms a routine that manages time and resources efficiently. This leads to conservation of energy and free time needed to unwind in your busy lifestyles.

Without discipline in your life, you can be pushed to the brink that might leave you exhausted, helpless, and stressed. This is completely avoidable by taking a few small steps on a regular basis towards an organized lifestyle. Self-Discipline helps you achieve that and all your other goals in life. You must cultivate the habit to feel responsible for all your actions. With discipline in your lifestyle, you are taking charge of your decisions and empowering yourself with more confidence.

For students in school and students about to enter their college life, Self-Discipline is key. Currently, the students are in a protected environment nurtured by the care of parents and the guidance of teachers. But the world waiting for students outside the schools and colleges, tests everyone's mental and physical stamina, even grown-ups of all ages. Hence, Vedantu has provided both long and short ‘Self-Discipline and its importance’ speech for students of Class 1 to 12.

Long and Short Self-Discipline and its Importance Speech

Today, I am here to deliver a speech on Self-Discipline and its importance. Self-Discipline is one of the most important steps in becoming a better person.  Many people believe that Self-Discipline is only important for those who want to pursue a career in academia and become doctors or scientists, but this is not true.

Self-Discipline is important for everyone. If you are creative and want to be a singer, dancer, actor, or painter, or if you want to go into any field, you must be Self-Disciplined. Self-Discipline is essential for both those at home and those at work.

Our mother gets up early in the morning and prepares breakfast for us, as well as packs our lunch, bags, bottles, and so on. When we get home, she feeds us, cleans our uniforms, and prepares them; she also assists us with our homework and prepares our dinner. She is able to accomplish all of this because she is also Self-Disciplined. Indeed, it teaches us to love and care for both ourselves and others.

Self-Discipline, on the other hand, is important for everyone and at every stage of life; it can be learned at an early age. Because the young mind is fresh and eager to learn, anything taught at this age becomes a habit for people later on.

Many children, on the other hand, dislike being given instructions because they believe they are being forced to do so.

As a result, parents and teachers must exercise extreme caution when instilling the habit of Self-Discipline in children. They should be taught the benefits and significance of Self-Discipline in someone's life through examples.

Children and young adults are drawn to actors, singers, players, and so on. Instructors can use examples of famous figures, players, actors, dancers, and so on to persuade students that their dream of becoming famous requires rigorous training and practice. And even when they become popular, they maintain their Self-Discipline and focus.

Students who want to pursue sports as a career must be Self-Disciplined because only then will they be able to succeed.

Some very common expectations from such students include waking up early, exercising regularly, eating healthy and on time, drinking enough milk and juice, drinking water, and so on. These practices are impossible to achieve if no one is Self-Disciplined in life.

Self-Discipline is also important because it allows people to control their emotions and become more practical in life because such people are more centered in life.

It is also significant in life because it provides individuals with the proper approach and attitude toward life and aids in the fulfillment of someone's decision through thick and thin. Self-Disciplined people do not have mental fluctuations, and they achieve their goals in a long time.

Self-Discipline essentially helps to strengthen your inner strength, eliminates weakness, laziness, procrastination, and addictions, and instead helps you stay fit, timed, and energetic.

Everyone needs the Self-Discipline to lead a happy, stress-free life.

Short Speech on Self-Discipline and its Importance

Today, I am here to deliver a short speech on Self-Discipline and its importance. The ability to control one's own behavior, habits, and etiquette is referred to as Self-Discipline. It is significant in someone's life because it assists in overcoming weaknesses and living a useful life.

Self-Discipline is required to help you live a successful and fruitful life. Discipline can be imposed from without, whereas Self-Discipline is the determination to remain disciplined. Discipline, no matter how difficult it may appear, is an important part of our lives because it is required at any age.

Discipline is not only imposed on children; being an adult is also important for being Self-Disciplined; whether it is at home, the office, the playground, the gym, or anywhere else for that matter, it teaches us to respect the times and times of our time. Self-Discipline is also necessary for living a healthy life because we must eat and drink on time.

When children are young, they are expected to explain everything, such as brushing, bathing, hand washing, eating, doing homework, and so on. However, as they grow older, they begin to do all of these things on their own, which is referred to as Self-Discipline. Discipline aids in distinguishing between what is right and wrong and instills in people a sense of responsibility.

Self-Discipline comes naturally to some people. And with a little effort, some people can do it. The effort is worthwhile because it improves people's lives. It simply means exercising self-control. A person who maintains control is able to control his or her actions and reactions.

Self-Discipline is practiced by some of the world's most powerful people. They claim that one of the main reasons they have attained high status is due to Self-Discipline. They didn't start out high, but they made the most of what they had and rose through the ranks.

Failure, defeat, ruined relationships, health issues, obesity, and thus unhappiness can all result from a lack of Self-Discipline. Self-Discipline will motivate you to select and then commit to the thoughts, actions, and attitudes that contribute to success and progress. It will also provide you with the ability and inner strength to overcome life's addictions, laziness, and procrastination, which are major roadblocks in one's life.

10 Lines on Self-Discipline and its Importance Speech

Discipline means living life with proper rules and regulations.

It includes rules, regulations, manners, and etiquettes that shape our lives.

Discipline in life aids in the improvement of our habits and personalities.

Discipline guides us to follow the right principles and achieve success in our lives.

It is also believed that in order to be a good citizen of the country, one must live a disciplined life.

It promotes self-esteem and self-control in our lives.

Getting up early, exercising, eating healthy foods, and avoiding bad habits are all aspects of living a disciplined life.

Eating habits that are disciplined also help us to stay fit and healthy.

The principle is to respect others and to be obedient.

The first type of discipline is "Induced Discipline," which we learn from other people's indiscipline. The second is “Self-Discipline,” which is generated in our own minds and assists us in controlling our behavior.

We can conclude that discipline is an essential part of everyone's life. To be a good and ideal citizen, as well as a good human being, we must cultivate discipline in our lives. Self-Discipline may be difficult to achieve, but it is critical for leading a healthy personal and professional life. A Self-Disciplined person makes the best use of his or her time. As a result, he can accomplish more and do more work than someone who is not Self-Disciplined.

In times of social media taking over the lives of students as well as adults, Self-Discipline is the need of the hour. Mindless scrolling on Instagram, YouTube and Facebook has reduced the student's attention span drastically.

Reduction in attention span leads to more difficulty in focusing on due tasks. Performance goes down due to the fact that students are getting easily distracted. It's becoming more difficult to finish studying and working in one go without feeling the urge to look at a phone screen.

Therefore, Self-Discipline acts as a friend in need and a systematic push to help students keep distractions, boredom, and laziness at bay. It instills commitment in the students' minds to remain concentrated on their goal until they achieve it. This builds a sense of self-validation of emerging victorious in their daily battles.

Overcoming your demons like lethargy, distorted focus and mood swings with Self-Discipline in this age of social media is a rewarding feeling. It is vital to multitask easily without feeling burnt out, finish work before the deadlines and enjoy free time with loved ones.

Self-Discipline builds character that helps lead a well-balanced, rejuvenating lifestyle.

FAQs on Speech on Self Discipline and Its Importance

1. Do you need the Self-Discipline to do well in creative careers?

Most people with successful careers in creative fields were not born artists. In fact, many artists lead a very Self-Disciplined life from a very young age. Crafting one’s art form, mastering the craft and honing his or her skills with changing trends requires regular practice.

Without Self-Discipline, the dedication required to practice daily cannot be attained.

2. How to Develop Self-Discipline in life?

The following are a starter towards becoming Self-Disciplined:

Be self-aware to form a plan that uses your strengths to overcome your weaknesses.

Avoid distractions at any cost with willpower and by rewarding yourself if you are able to resist temptations.

Prioritize your goals and channel all your thoughts, energies and actions towards accomplishing them.

Get a trusted guardian, mentor or even friend involved in your growth process who can motivate you.

Use realistic targets, efficient deadlines, To-Do lists and well-planned schedules to achieve tasks.

3. How to get Self-Disciplined to fight social media addiction?

The following ways are instrumental to curb social media addiction with Self-Discipline and willpower:

Develop an ‘out sight, out of mind’ thought process by keeping your phone away

Turn off the notifications to prevent getting distracted by the beeping sounds

Keep aside multiple hours of your day for ‘Digital Detox’

Download apps that restrict access to social media if the daily screen time is crossed

Mark your work table or study room as a ‘No Phone Zone’

4. Is maintaining Self-Discipline tough?

Many people wrongly believe Self-Discipline to be tough to maintain. This mindset is deceiving. It’s not tough to be Self-Disciplined in the long run. It’s tough to not favor short-term gains over long-term gains.

This is because one tends to feel that it’s tiring and unfair that the present self is working hard whereas the future self is gaining the benefits. This isn’t true. One must realize that long-term benefits are more important than short-lived gains.

5. Can one stop being Self-Disciplined after becoming successful?

Self-Discipline is not just the key to achieving success, but also the key to preventing a downfall after success. It is imperative to continue to be disciplined even after reaching the peak as relieved nerves may lead to a laid-back attitude. This can undo years of hard work, patience, and perseverance. Therefore, Self-Discipline not only helps prevent failure but also grows manifolds to even more fulfilling forms of success.

Speech on Discipline [1, 2, 3, 5 Minutes]

Speech on Discipline

Hello everyone!

Today, I want to talk to you about discipline. Discipline means following rules and making good choices. It helps us learn, grow, and be our best selves.

Think about your classroom. When we listen to our teacher and raise our hands, we create a friendly and safe place to learn. That’s discipline! It helps everyone get a chance to speak and share their ideas.

Discipline is also important at home. When we do our chores or finish our homework on time, we show responsibility. This helps our families and teaches us to be dependable.

Sometimes, discipline can be tough. It’s hard to resist playing video games when we have homework. But if we focus on our tasks first, we can enjoy our free time without worries!

Remember, discipline helps us reach our goals. Whether it’s scoring a goal in soccer or reading a new book, sticking to our plans makes us stronger and better.

Let’s all practice discipline every day. It will help us learn, have fun, and become great friends.

Thank you for listening!

1, 2 Minutes Speech on Discipline

My dear class fellows and my school Teacher! Welcome to all of you.

Today, I want to discuss with you about discipline and its role in shaping our characters and success. Discipline is the commitment to a set of values, the practice of self-control, and the ability to adhere to rules and principles. Discipline is the practice of training oneself to obey the defined rules.

Teaching oneself to behave consistently and under control is a key component of self-discipline.

Discipline is an important quality in a man or women that is helpful for us to reach our goals and to find success in life.

Discipline makes us more focused and organized. Students who follow disciplin always got higher grades in the class.

Our country defence forces are able to defend our country just due to a standards set of rules and policy.

Discipline helps us to focus on our goals and to overcome distractions of surrounding environment, which can frequently prevent us from achieving our goals.

By keeping our promise and achieving our goals, we are able to demonstrate to ourselves that we are able and reliable. This boosts our confidence and sense of worth.

Discipline is the driving force behind achievement. It is the key that unlocks the door to success.

Developing habits that are good for our success are very nearly belongs to discipline.  Let me tell you that there are many occasions where we need discipline like to  follow study time, getting regular exercise on time and following school assembly timings.

A disciplined student is always aware about the value of time, the importance of focus, and the need for consistency. With a disciplined approach to learning, students can overcome challenges, stay organized, and make the most of their academic achievements.

At last, I want to conclude my speech with this last statement that “Without discipline you can’t  your desired success.

Greetings to all.

I want to discuss the value of discipline in our lives today. To thrive in any aspect of life, discipline is a crucial attribute that we all need to possess. It is the cornerstone of excellent character and aids in our accomplishment of objectives, development into dependable people, and maximisation of potential.

We can better manage our ideas, feelings, and behaviours with discipline. Even when it’s challenging, it enables us to withstand temptation and make wise decisions. We can be more organised, focused, and productive when we practise discipline.

Additionally, discipline aids in the formation of virtues like timeliness, regular exercise, and wholesome food. These behaviours support our achievement and general well-being.

The practise of discipline takes work and dedication, and it is not simple. We must set objectives and make sacrifices in order to reach them. But being disciplined has many benefits. It enables us to live happy, purposeful lives and to have a beneficial influence on the world.

5 Minutes Speech on Discipline

Good evening to all. I want to talk to you today about the value of discipline.

Our lives are not complete without discipline, which aids us in achieving both personal and professional objectives. It enables us to exercise control over our behaviour and arrive at wiser conclusions. Without discipline, it is challenging to complete anything significant because we lack the drive and concentration required to complete tasks.

Being disciplined has a lot of advantages. One benefit is that it enables us to live a more ordered and organised existence. It supports effective time management and work prioritisation, which boosts output and efficiency. Having discipline in our life also enables us to make better decisions regarding our relationships, diet, and exercise.

Discipline, though, is more than just abiding by the law; it’s also about exercising restraint and respect for oneself. It entails standing up for what we believe in and making choices that reflect who we are, even if they may not be straightforward or widely accepted.

In conclusion, discipline is a vital component of our lives that enables us to accomplish our objectives and live a happy, meaningful life. To become more skilled, it takes time and work, but the benefits are well worth it. I’m grateful.

Long Speech On Self-Discipline And Its Importance 500 Words In English

Good morning my fellow friends and teachers.

The topic of my speech is self-discipline and its importance.

First, I would like to address how self-discipline is essential and that all of us, irrespective of our age, should have self-discipline. Self-discipline is when you know how to utilize your time and not procrastinate. Sometimes, when we are enjoying ourselves, we seem to immerse ourselves in a fit of relaxation. And he chose to neglect other important work. We keep delaying doing that work, which would have been completed long ago if we were a bit more focused. Talking about focus, we often get distracted while we are doing something. Our mind seems to wander off, and we forget entirely what we were doing. With self-discipline, it wouldn’t be like that. We need to try to improve ourselves every moment. Bettering ourselves is also a part of self-discipline.

Children need to learn discipline from a very young age. We need to teach them basic ethics and mannerisms. That would include things like saying “sorry,” “please,” “I beg your pardon,” etc. Then things like opening a door from someone, respecting your elders, helping others out when they need your help.

Some people are self-disciplined naturally, while others have to put in some effort before achieving it. To achieve self-discipline, you should engage in meditation. Meditation helps to calm yourself and be cool-tempered. It helps you to control your urges and channels energy in the right direction.

Another way to achieve self-discipline is to set a routine and live according to that. You need to divide your day in such a way so that you have time for everything. You can study all the subjects and still have some extra time to revise or focus on the wrong subject. Or use that freedom to indulge yourself in a hobby.

Hobbies can help you relieve stress, and it is also a perfect way to learn something new and fun. You should try and learn how to control yourself from giving in to distractions. Due to the advancements in technology and the environment, things like television, mobile phone, video games, etc.

Take up a significant portion of our time. Instead of taking a nap or read a book, we get easily disturbed my social media notifications. Our generation is part of social media from a very young age.

There are both pros and cons to that. But we should deactivate once in a while and concentrate more on real life. We should not be overwhelmed by what we see on the internet. Instead, we should focus on bettering our own lives. Therefore, go to bed early, or read a storybook before going to bed instead of staying awake until unhealthy hours in the morning. It’s not good for our mental and physical health.

Self-discipline is crucial as it teaches us to be better humans. To be better versions of ourselves. To be decent, caring, and loving. Self-love is also a part of self-discipline. You are doing this not for others but yourself. To lead a healthy and correct lifestyle, self-discipline is quite essential. In today’s world, people are more occupied with other things, and they forget basic human manners.

3 Minutes Speech on Discipline

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Discipline—this singular word encapsulates the essence of success and achievement . It’s not merely a set of rules or routines; it’s the cornerstone upon which our accomplishments stand. Jim Rohn’s words resonate profoundly: discipline acts as the bridge linking our aspirations to reality.

From our earliest days to the very fabric of our existence, discipline molds our character. It’s the compass guiding us through life’s complexities, steering us toward our goals with unwavering focus and dedication. A disciplined individual doesn’t just work; they excel, delivering their best in everything they do.

Yet, discipline isn’t a monolithic concept. It wears different faces in different lives, shaping itself to fit personal beliefs and perceptions. Some see it as a guiding principle, while others may not accord it the same reverence.

However, at its core, discipline teaches us an invaluable lesson: the pursuit of immediate pleasure seldom leads to lasting freedom. True freedom arises from the conscious choices we make, aligning with our long-term ambitions.

Embracing discipline isn’t about constraint; it’s liberation. It empowers us to forge ahead, staying committed when obstacles loom large, and consistently striving to surpass our own limits.

Let us harness the transformative power of discipline, steering our lives toward success and fulfillment. May it guide our actions, shape our destinies, and pave the way for a future where achievements aren’t just dreams but tangible realities.

Long Speech on Discipline

Respected Principal, Respected Teachers and My Dear Friends!

First of all, I would like to welcome all of you to the annual day of our school. Every year we celebrate this day with a lot of enthusiasm and fervor. While at one side, students are excited to get promoted to the next class, there is also a regret of leaving the memories of the previous class.

It’s a great pleasure to be given this opportunity to host the programme and deliver welcome speech . The topic that I chose this year is ‘Discipline’.

Even though, we all are aware of the dictionary meaning of this term, but how many of us actually follow our inner instinct?

Discipline means ‘doing the things in the moral and ethical manner’. School is the second place after our home, where we learn discipline. Discipline is basically the suppression of base desires and is often understood to be similar to self – restraint and control. Disciplined person determines the best course of action irrespective of one’s wishes. Honest behavior is another form of discipline; it can be described as when one’s values and aims are aligned with each other.

School discipline has a very important role to play in an individual’s life. It is a necessary set of actions adopted by a teacher towards a student or group of students, if the ongoing educational activity has been disrupted due to the student’s behavior or if the student breaks any particular rule created by the school authority. Discipline basically guides the children’s behavior, sets limits and ultimately helps them learn to care for themselves and others.

Discipline can come in several forms. School systems make rules and regulations and if any student breaks these rules, they are subject to punishment; which ultimately is aimed to teach discipline to the student. The school rules may include defining the expected clothing standards, social conduct, timekeeping and work ethic.

While discipline is necessary to condition the students; teachers should be mindful not to beat students to the extent that they get badly hurt. It is also called corporal punishment. Several reports indicate that some teachers get violent in the name of discipline harming students physically and mentally. Thus, the focus of discipline is now shifting and substitute approaches are evolving due to all these incidents.

Many schools now-a-days focuses on ‘Positive Discipline’; it’s a discipline model that emphasizes on the positive aspects of behavior, found on the concept that there are no bad students, just bad and good behaviors. Accordingly, you can reinforce the good behaviors through counseling and examples without hurting the child. People promoting positive disciplines don’t ignore the problems rather tackle the problem peacefully.

Discipline is also required in our professional life and thus it is all the more important. Like a company cannot be successful without a proper strategy, we also can’t succeed without certain rules and discipline in our life. Inculcating good habits like waking up early, doing regular exercise, eating healthy food, not indulging into bad habits like smoking, drinking, etc would keep us healthy and fit.

Thus, it is important that we remain disciplined in every aspect of our life.

one-stop-solutions school exam

Good morning everybody!

My topic for today’s session is on explaining as to what ‘Discipline’ means and how important it is for all of us to adhere to it.

What do you all think that discipline means? Alright, till the time that you people collate your thoughts I would share my views on this.

Discipline is a very basic necessity for one’s progress. Being disciplined does not mean that you follow every rule that you are asked to. It means having self control and ability to adjust yourself as per the changing trends and instructions. Being disciplined will always give you the genuine pleasure of freedom. Ask yourselves, isn’t it that the student or the employee who is disciplined never ever kept at doubt. That person is always given the freedom for their actions, as everybody knows that they have complete control on themselves and are mature enough for decision implementation.

Discipline is extremely necessary in all spheres of our life. Just imagine, is it ever possible for an army to fight without strict discipline? Is there any educational institution to run without discipline? No, right! So, this proves that being disciplined is very crucial and important element of everybody’s life.

We all need to have a destined disciplinary routine in order to work well in our personal and professional life. We should monitor each and every small action of ours. From eating on time and in right quantity to sleep at right time for sufficient hours. Everything needs to be taken care of for living a healthy and wise life. One must practice self control in order to position themselves in terms of their health, wealth and overall society that they live in.

We inherit discipline in us by seeing others. Since our childhood it is our parents and grandparents seeing whom we build our daily routine and do day to day activities. I have observed this many a times that people following due discipline get a high end support from others during the times when needed. To have a progressive and stable life we must make sure that we follow a disciplined life. We should act as a motivation for all those who are around us. Seeing us stable, peaceful, happy and determined towards our actions due to our specific disciplined flow of life we will attract good people towards us. Our in built gestures towards dedication help us move forward towards our achievements as the disciplined person is way too planned in their actions and task executions. Punctuality and discipline are intertwined threads weaving a tapestry of reliability, responsibility, and success in every facet of life

There is no stage of life that offers you a healthy happy life if you are not disciplined. Practice discipline everyday and I assure you as per my personal experience that everything that you wish for will come your way. Things that seem difficult will be just so easy and convenient for each one of you when you mould your life in discipline. Leadership forged through discipline not only steers with vision but also sets the standard, fostering a culture of accountability and excellence.

Thank you for taking out your time and listening to this most important topic. Hope you implement it now itself in your life. Take care and good luck!

Good evening friends and my dear colleagues,

This is a special workshop organized by your company to improve our inherited value of discipline in it. Thank you all for taking out time and being a part of this session.

For many of you, this word discipline means something you practice and preach daily and for a few of you it might seem something that is ignored or not scrupulously followed as I know I am right on addressing this part. When we come to maturity, we have to learn self-discipline: how to govern and rule ourselves. This is the hardest task of all. Discipline is not only desirable but also indispensable. Discipline should be the first criterion of the family.

As per my experience, I address discipline as the act of executing well planned tasks in order to get the best results for ourselves. These results not necessarily mean monetary or tangible benefits, but also along with these it caters to the healthy living and progressive life. Self actualization about self control is discipline to me. This all depends on the values inherited in us since our childhood.

It is one of the very necessary tools for everyone in every stage or phase of life whether at home, office, playground or other places. Our daily lives would become unorganized and mismanaged if we do not follow and practice discipline in life.

Everything in this world is expected to follow certain discipline. Sun always rises in the morning and sets at evening every day. Isn’t it? It never happens to be vice versa. Morning and evening come daily without getting late, river always run, and many more.

Being disciplined automatically helps a person in being motivated. Following a dedicated routine of planned actions with self control helps in executions that are more progressive for us and make us walk the path that best routes us for our well being. There is no specific age bar for having discipline in our life, from students to teachers and from children to parents; everybody should follow discipline.

In the easiest way, I would address that discipline is one’s ability to adjust oneself to the given situation. Discipline is to making priorities. The one who is planned is the one whose life goes on track and faces less number of hurdles. Being disciplined helps in maintaining the flow of life and ensures the better progress for future. Freedom and success comes with responsibility and the one who has complete control on himself has the ability to manage the greatest success and freedom with utmost responsibility.

To happily and successfully lead and maintain an authentic lifestyle one has to have control on avoiding distractions. So, my dear friends learn to adjust yourself on the given situations in life. Discipline yourself and leave behind an inspiring legacy of success!

I hope that after this session of ours, you have been able to actually lighten up your thought on how important is it for each one of us to be disciplined and focused in our lives.

General discipline

There is no doubt that discipline in life in general is necessary. The state sets many laws to regulate life, such as commercial laws that show the relationship in commercial transactions between individuals, companies and banks, and foreign trade as well, such as import and export laws, customs, taxes and so on.

And criminal laws that specify deterrent penalties for criminals, in order to establish security in society, in addition to civil laws such as the Traffic Law and the Family Law. There are also military laws that apply to conscripts.

The individual must be aware of the laws of his town in order to avoid committing offenses for which he will be punished.

The need for discipline and its advantages

In the end, I would like to introduce you to some of the old students, they have come today to prove to you that this school is an example to follow in discipline, and many distinguished scholars and men have graduated from it.

From this school famous personalities graduated such as doctors, brilliant engineers, and politicians with a great deal of responsibility, and the common factor between them was discipline.

My dear students, achieving great goals requires discipline and focus on our goals without getting distracted by things that make us stray from the right path.

My dear students, I wish you a good academic year, in which you achieve your goals. I wish you success in your studies, and in your future life.

The effort you make today will find its results in the future, and you must know that there is no success without fatigue, and that the things that we obtain easily are easily lost from us, while the things that we obtain after a great effort will be preserved throughout our lives.

I also advise you to benefit from the experiences of others and to set a good example for you.

Speech on discipline in 200 words

Discipline is the safe and secure way to achieve our dreams, because discipline makes us focus on our goal and try to achieve it with the least effort and the shortest time, and discipline makes us not get caught up in minor things that distract our thinking from the main goal that we dream of achieving.

When we know the importance of discipline in our lives, there will be no difficulty in organizing our lives, and being disciplined people.

In fact, discipline regulates the life of both the individual and society. In an individual’s life, there are many dreams that he wants to become a reality, and you may view them as difficult to achieve. But when he sets his priorities and sets a plan to achieve these priorities and commits himself to implementing that plan, he will achieve everything he wished for easily and in the least time.

Great goals require determination and great challenge, you may give up doing some of the things you love, but that is a simple sacrifice in order to achieve great goals. You will feel happy and proud when you achieve these great goals.

You will also be one of the prominent people in society because of your discipline, because success does not come by chance or luck, but success is achieved through determination, patience and challenge.

The challenge may be great, it may be a challenge to yourself and prevent you from doing things you love, it may be a challenge to the environment and the circumstances surrounding you, and it may be a challenge to competitors in your same field. But in the end, success will make you forget all your fatigue.

Short speech on discipline

We can define discipline in an easy way, which is that discipline is control over our actions and words, that is, discipline makes it possible to control everything we do. This definition makes us accept discipline because it is a process of organizing priorities and not restricting our freedoms.

It is very important that we define our goal and develop a deliberate plan to implement this goal, and we must adhere to the plan in order to achieve our goal on time.

This method must be a way of life, for example, the student wants to succeed with distinction, the employee wants to advance in his work and get a better job, and the family wants to raise its children with a good upbringing. It varies from one person to another. But in the end we must know that discipline is the only way to achieve great goals.

Speech on Importance of Discipline

If you have a plan and you really want to implement it, there is no way to do that without discipline. There are two types of discipline, and often we need each of them in order for our lives to be better.

Self-discipline needs each person to organize his time and effort in a way that is commensurate with the goal he wants to achieve. Self-discipline differs from one person to another, and its degree may change from one stage to another depending on the goals we want to achieve.

As for general discipline, it is an important thing to maintain order and security in society, and it must be adhered to by all citizens, and whoever violates the laws will be punished, in order to be a deterrent to others.

The absence of discipline leads to the spread of chaos, and the failure to accomplish any useful work, which results in the spread of poverty and ignorance. We must realize that great goals require great effort.

Speech on self discipline

Self-discipline is important for every person, it comes from within and is subject to our conscience without the need for anyone to give us orders or monitor us. We need to acquire this important quality, which is self-discipline.

This is because we are the ones who adhere to self-discipline, and we define it according to our circumstances and abilities. For example, there is a student who commits himself to studying for four hours a day, while another student commits himself to studying for eight hours a day, and it is important that we adhere to the plan that we set.

Also, discipline should not be an obstacle for us to live a happy life, because organizing time and setting goals will make our life better. It is important that there is always time to practice the hobbies that we love, and to practice social life and others.

1 Minute speech on discipline

Without discipline, chaos will reign, and we cannot achieve any success. This principle applies to both individuals and societies, and therefore we find that the state has allocated the Ministry of Planning, and this ministry is responsible for setting plans for the development of the state in all areas.

These plans may be long-term or short-term, then the implementation, and the most important reason for the success of these plans is discipline in their implementation.

Likewise, the lives of individuals need organization and planning for the future, and our efforts in the present will reap its fruits in the future, and we must benefit from the experiences of people who have been able to achieve great success, so we must study the way they followed and take them as an example for us.

Speech on value of discipline

Discipline has great value in our lives, we need discipline in order to achieve our great goals. We must realize that success is not achieved by chance, but is achieved as a result of a great effort we have made, and a discipline we have committed to in our lives.

One of the benefits of discipline is that it enables you to identify weaknesses in your plan, quickly address them and correct your mistakes. Discipline also saves time and effort, so you can achieve your goal in less time and less effort as well.

In general, discipline makes you a person of value in society, whether it is a scientific, social or other value. Discipline will earn you the respect and appreciation of others.

Some see discipline as a denial of many things, but rational people consider discipline to be just the regulation of our behavior.

Self discipline is the best discipline speech

In fact, self-discipline is the best quality that a person can have, because self-discipline does not need someone to monitor or punish you if you do not comply, but self-discipline is from within you and you are the watcher of yourself.

When you break some rules or laws, you feel uncomfortable and unhappy, but you try to force yourself to follow the rules again. In most cases, a disciplined person can control his behavior and adjust it easily.

One of the benefits of self-discipline is that the person determines the things that must be done and the things that must not be done. He also determines the time to do everything so that he organizes his time and effort, and at the same time achieves the best results.

Discipline motivational speech

It is important to get used to discipline from a young age, because discipline makes us more receptive to obeying orders and carrying them out, and makes us abide by laws and rules easily.

There are many people who cannot abide by the laws, and this is as a result of their upbringing on complete freedom, without making any future plans or taking into account the rights of others.

These people often make mistakes and break the laws, and this exposes them to punishment. For example, you find some people do not abide by traffic rules despite their knowledge of these rules and their knowledge of the penalty for violating these rules.

However, they are not accustomed to discipline from a young age, so their behavior becomes undisciplined, and they feel annoyed when they are asked to follow the laws.

Hence the importance of teaching children discipline through the family, school and various media.

Motivational speech on discipline

Discipline has many benefits for both the individual and society. For example, discipline brings us a good job opportunity, as the disciplined person leaves a positive impact on others, and makes others trust him and realize that he is a responsible person and can do his work seriously.

The good impression that a disciplined person leaves on others will make them nominate him for important jobs, and thus he will achieve success in his job and rise to higher positions.

The undisciplined person who does not care about organizing his life will not be persuaded by employers and they  will not depend on him to do any important work.

In addition to achieving a distinguished social position, the discipline also will make us gain the respect and appreciation of others.

Motivational speech on discipline for students

My dear students, today is the beginning of the school year, and this is a good occasion to guide you to the path of success with excellence. Discipline is the path to success with excellence. Whoever wants to achieve great success must be disciplined in all his actions and words.

Short Speech on Discipline in English

Discipline, in simple language, means to obey rules. It is something that keeps you under control. It is of two types. One is induced discipline and second is self-discipline.

Self Discipline is something which we learn by ourselves and it comes from within. We set our own rules which we think are good. For example, waking up early in the morning seven days a week to study or to offer prayers to god. Here, there is no outside pressure. We have set this rule for ourselves.

The discipline of both kinds is important in life as it helps us to achieve success in life. It helps us to focus on our goals. For example, if we wake up early, study properly, eat on time and exercise daily, it will keep us healthy, fit and focussed. This way we can achieve our goals easily.

Our lives are incomplete without discipline. Hence, it is one of the key elements of our lives. It may look difficult to make it a part of our lives but gives a lot of benefits once we adopt it.

Thank you for lending me your ears.

Speech on discipline.

Good morning everybody present here. Today I am here to talk about discipline. Discipline can be defined as the rules and regulations that an individual follows throughout their walk of life. A person should maintain discipline in different forms from childhood to old age.

It is a quality that every individual should have because they are in control of their life. It is the key to progress and being successful. If a person is not disciplined, then their life is going to be completely dull, and they will never have the motivation to do anything in their life. To be successful in life and align with your plans, it is necessary that you have the discipline to achieve the goals that you have set for yourself. Discipline can be divided into induced discipline, which means the discipline that we learn from watching others and through experiences. Self-discipline requires support and motivation from people around you.

You must be asking yourself, why does one need discipline in their lives? Why should I focus on having discipline so much? Without discipline, you will never put in the hard work required for you to achieve success. It will always lead to you being disappointed because you are not doing the work required for happiness. To develop a positive mindset and healthy body, you need to have discipline. Even something as simple as eating healthy food and not skipping meals is a form of discipline. It is a tool to train and educate your mind to be the best version of itself and be happy and healthy.

To conclude, I would like to say that discipline is one of the most important parts of our lives. It needs to be implemented every day to have a healthy lifestyle. It is the only way a person can attain success and achieve their goals. It takes hard work, determination and motivation to have a disciplined life. Surrounding yourself with disciplined people helps motivate you as well and makes you a more focused person. Not only should we surround ourselves with disciplined people, but we should also be the source of motivation for other people so that they can learn discipline and be one step closer to success in their lives.

Automatic speech recognition learns to understand people with Parkinson's disease—by listening to them

Automatic speech recognition learned to understand people with Parkinson's disease — by listening to them

As Mark Hasegawa-Johnson combed through data from his latest project, he was pleasantly surprised to uncover a recipe for Eggs Florentine. Sifting through hundreds of hours of recorded speech will unearth a treasure or two, he said.

Hasegawa-Johnson leads the Speech Accessibility Project, an initiative at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign to make voice recognition devices more useful for people with speech disabilities.

In the project's first published study, researchers asked an automatic speech recognizer to listen to 151 hours—almost six-and-a-half days—of recordings from people with speech disabilities related to Parkinson's disease. Their model transcribed a new dataset of similar recordings with 30% more accuracy than a control model that had not listened to people with Parkinson's disease.

This study appears in the Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research . The speech recordings used in the study are freely available to researchers, nonprofits and companies looking to improve their voice recognition devices.

"Our results suggest that a large database of atypical speech can significantly improve speech technology for people with disabilities," said Hasegawa-Johnson, a professor of electrical and computer engineering at Illinois and a researcher at the university's Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology, where the project is housed. "I look forward to seeing how other organizations will use this data to make voice recognition devices more inclusive."

Machines like smartphones and virtual assistants use automatic speech recognition to make meaning from vocalizations, allowing people to queue up a playlist, dictate hands-free messages, seamlessly participate in virtual meetings and communicate clearly with friends and family members.

Voice recognition technology does not work well for everyone; in particular, those with neuromotor disorders like Parkinson's disease that can cause a range of strained, slurred or discoordinated speech patterns, collectively called dysarthria.

"Unfortunately, this means that many people who need voice-controlled devices the most may encounter the most difficulty in using them well," Hasegawa-Johnson said.

"We know from existing research that if you train an ASR on someone's voice, it will begin to understand them more accurately. We asked: can you train an automatic speech recognizer to understand people with dysarthria from Parkinson's by exposing it to a small group of people with similar speech patterns?"

Hasegawa-Johnson and his colleagues recruited about 250 adults with varying degrees of dysarthria related to Parkinson's disease. Prior to joining the study, prospective participants met with a speech-language pathologist who evaluated their eligibility.

"Many people who have struggled with a communication disorder for a long time, especially a progressive one, may withdraw from daily communication," said Clarion Mendes, a speech-language pathologist on the team. "They might share their unique thoughts, needs and ideas less and less often, thinking their communication is just too impacted to engage in meaningful conversations.

"Those are the exact people we're looking for," she said.

Selected participants used their personal computers and smartphones to submit voice recordings. Working at their own pace and with optional assistance from a caregiver, they repeated well-worn vocal commands like "Set an alarm," recited passages from novels and opined on open-ended prompts like "Please explain the steps to making breakfast for four people."

Responding to the latter, one participant enumerated the steps to make Eggs Florentine—Hollandaise sauce and all—while another pragmatically advised to order takeout.

"We've heard from many participants who have said that the participation process was not only enjoyable, but that it gave them the confidence to communicate with their families again," Mendes said. "This project has brought hope, excitement and energy—uniquely human qualities—to many of our participants and their loved ones."

She said the team consulted with Parkinson's disease experts and community members to develop content relevant to participants' lives. Prompts were specific and spontaneous: training a speech algorithm to recognize medication names, for example, may help an end user communicate with their pharmacy, while casual conversation-starters mimic the cadence of daily chit-chat.

"We tell participants: We know that you can make your speech clearer by putting all your effort into it, but you're probably tired of having to try to make yourself understood for the benefit of others. Try to relax and communicate as if you're chatting with your family on the couch," Mendes said.

To gauge how well the speech algorithm listened and learned, the researchers divided the samples into three sets. The first set of 190 participants, or 151 recorded hours, trained the model. As its performance improved, the researchers confirmed that the model was learning in earnest (and not just memorizing participants' responses) by introducing it to a second, smaller set of recordings. When the model reached peak performance on the second set, the researchers challenged it with the test set.

Members of the research team manually transcribed an average of 400 recordings per participant to check the model's work.

They found that after listening to the training set, the ASR system transcribed recordings from the test set with a word error rate of 23.69%. For comparison, a system trained on speech samples from people without Parkinson's disease transcribed the test set with a word error rate of 36.3%—roughly 30% less accurate.

Error rates also decreased for almost all individuals in the test set. Even speakers with less typical Parkinsonian speech, like unusually fast speech or stuttering, experienced modest improvements.

"I was excited to see such a dramatic benefit," Hasegawa-Johnson said.

He added that his enthusiasm is bolstered by participant feedback:

"I spoke with a participant who was interested in the future of this technology," he said. "That's the wonderful thing about this project: seeing how excited people can be about the possibility that their smart speakers and their cell phones will understand them. That's really what we're trying to do."

Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu's UN speech had passion and props - but no clear plan to end war

He attacked "lies and slanders" from other world leaders, the "goons" in Iran and insisted Israel must keep fighting multiple wars against Hamas in Gaza, Hezbollah in Lebanon and Houthis in Yemen.

Benjamin Netanyahu loves the platform of the United Nations but the UN doesn't love him.

As he entered, hundreds of diplomats left. He delivered his speech to a chamber more than half empty.

Mr Netanyahu claimed he was not initially going to attend, but was compelled to by the "lies and slanders" he heard from other leaders.

He used the moment to remind the world of 7 October and the ongoing fate of hostages being held inside Gaza .

He justified Israel's war, claiming without evidence that it is the most moral campaign in history. Israel critics, of which there are many, accuse the country of genocide.

Netanyahu also warned that there was 'no place' in Iran that the long arm of Israel couldn't reach.

He pointed the finger at the "goons" in Iran as he has done year after year and described the Iranian axis across Iraq , Syria and Lebanon as a curse.

He lambasted the International Criminal Court for seeking arrest warrants against him and defence minister Yoav Gallant.

He invoked biblical references to advocate modern-day peace but insisted his country must keep fighting multiple wars; there was not even a passing glance to the US-French proposal for a truce in Lebanon.

Mr Netanyahu again dedicated time to speak about the prospect of normalisation with Saudi Arabia , something he is desperate for, but the Kingdom's Crown Prince isn't.

Riyadh won't make peace with Israel without a path to an independent Palestinian state, and that is something Mr Netanyahu isn't willing to give.

Mr Netanyahu does these moments well. He is a master of the media and revels in the moment.

In the end though, we heard nothing new.

It was passionate and it was angry. It had maps as props and a crowd flown in to cheer along.

He said Israel must "defeat" Hezbollah but gave no hint of a timeline and no clue what might come next.

UNITED NATIONS (AP) — The topics of Israel’s war with Hamas and fighting in Lebanon have dominated speeches at the U.N. General Assembly’s meeting this week. On Thursday, one side finally got the podium — including a moment of drama amid the ocean of words from the world’s leaders.

The first words from MAHMOUD ABBAS, head of the Palestinian Authority, were a single sentence repeated three times: “We will not leave. We will not leave. We will not leave.” Abbas used the rostrum of the U.N. General Assembly as he typically does — to criticize Israel. But this was the first time he did so since the Oct. 7, 2023, attacks by Hamas on Israel that triggered an Israeli military operation that has devastated the Gaza Strip.

He accused Israel of destroying Gaza and making it unlivable. And he said that his government should govern post-war Gaza as part of an independent Palestinian state, a vision that Israel’s hardline government rejects.

Israel has maintained its military operations are justified and are necessary to defend itself. DANNY DANON, Israel’s U.N. ambassador, responded to Abbas’ speech within minutes with a critical assessment. “Abbas spoke for 26 minutes and did not say the word ‘Hamas’ once. Since the massacre of Oct. 7, Abbas has failed to condemn Hamas for their crimes against humanity,” he said. “Only when he stands on the U.N. platform does he talk about a peaceful solution,”

Image

Speaking later Thursday, Lebanon’s foreign minister called for an immediate cease-fire “on all fronts.” ABDALLAH BOUHABIB called Israel’s actions “acts that are tantamount to war crimes” and warned that continued violence at his nation’s border will “transform into a black hole that will engulf international and regional peace and security.”

Israeli Prime Minister BENJAMIN NETANYAHU is scheduled to address the General Assembly on Friday morning and arrived in New York on Thursday.

Here’s your daily guide to what’s going on at the United Nations this week:

From the podium

Image

The president of Haiti’s transitional presidential council says he supports a U.N. peacekeeping mission to fight gang violence still overwhelming authorities. It’s the first public support announced by a Haitian government official since the U.S. proposed a U.N. peacekeeping mission earlier this month as one way to secure more resources for a U.N.-backed mission led by Kenya that officials say lacks personnel and funding. EDGARD LEBLANC FILS said he’s convinced that a change of status would guarantee the full success of the current mission.

Image

Kenyan President WILLIAM RUTO said his country is committed to international peace citing participation in regional and U.N peacekeeping missions. Ruto said 382 Kenyan officers had been deployed to Haiti and said the support had advanced Haiti’s security, He and thanked member states that have supported the mission, and said insufficient equipment and logistics had hindered further deployment by other nations.

On the sidelines

TINY THINGS, OUTSIZED IMPACT: World leaders endorsed a call for action against the threat of antimicrobial resistance. Antimicrobial resistance is the term officials use for when bacteria, viruses, parasites, and fungi develop the ability to shrug off medicines that previously had controlled them. Eight years ago, the U.N. General Assembly adopted a declaration in which countries pledged to track cases and develop action plans. On Thursday, the U.N. held another high-level meeting and adopted another declaration . This one calls for, among other things, sustainable national funding for antimicrobial resistance work and for an independent international panel focused on evidence-based measures to fight the problem. It also set a goal of reducing superbug-associated deaths by 10% by 2030.

RESPECTING ELECTION RESULTS: The United States and Argentina are leading calls for countries around the world to step up pressure on Venezuelan President NICOLAS MADURO to respect the result of July’s elections and cede power. Secretary of State ANTONY BLINKEN and Argentine Foreign Minister DIANA MONDINO co-hosted an event on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly to urge others to boost their efforts to isolate Maduro ahead of a Jan. 10 inauguration ceremony, at which he will be sworn in for another term despite losing the election to the opposition, according to most analysts and observers.

Image

GRIDLOCK: The General Assembly always brings a suite of police barricades to streets around the U.N. But the headquarters and some other parts of midtown Manhattan were ensconced in a shifting set of blocked streets and sidewalks Thursday evening because of protests related to Netanyahu’s arrival in New York ahead of his assembly speech.

Climate moment

A trio of leaders of international climate negotiations urged colleagues to step up efforts to fight global warming, but outside groups and endangered nations told those leaders to look in the mirror, take their own advice and stop pumping out fossil fuels. At the United Nations, the troika of the current and next two presidents of U.N. climate conferences told other leaders to make their required climate-fighting targets — due next February — much more ambitious. New national plans should be aligned with the 2015 Paris Agreement goal of limiting warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 degrees Fahrenheit) since pre-industrial times, urged the trio of leaders from the United Arab Emirates, Azerbaijan and Brazil.

Longtime climate negotiation analysts ALDEN MEYER of the think tank E3G and BILL HARE, CEO of Climate Analytics, which tracks emissions pledges, said the negotiation chiefs from the UAE, Azerbaijan and Brazil were big on soaring rhetoric, but their own nations’ actions fell far short.

Voices you might have missed

“The line that divides the legal from the just is sometimes merely a crack, but other times it is a deep gap and even an abyss. That gap, that abyss, most often and most severely affects the small nations and states that are the first victims of the clash between force and justice, because it can be an insurmountable obstacle to realizing the right to progress.”

—GORDANA SILJANOVSKA-DAVKOVA, president of the Republic of North Macedonia

“Doom and gloom are not the hallmark of leadership.”

—DOMINIQUE HASLER, Liechtenstein’s minister for foreign affairs, education and sport

“I can only note that women have been underrepresented this week at the General Debate.”

—MARIA MALMER STENERGARD, Sweden’s foreign minister

Something you might not know

A strange moment in American politics paid a visit to the U.N. General Assembly, brought there by Fils, the president of Haiti’s transitional council. In his speech, he referenced false claims that Haitians living in Springfield, Ohio, were eating cats and dogs — and made clear his country’s concerns about the repercussions.

“I would like to extend a brotherly greeting to all friends of Haiti that have shown solidarity towards the migrants from our country — and in particular those living in Springfield, Ohio,” he said. “The passions that naturally arise during an election campaign should never serve as a pretext for xenophobia or racism in a country such as the United States, a country forged by immigrants from all countries, and which has become a model of democracy for the world.”

The debunked information found its international spotlight in the U.S. presidential debate earlier this month, in which former President DONALD TRUMP repeated the claims that have circulated on the internet and been amplified by his running mate, Ohio Sen. JD VANCE. During the debate with Vice President KAMALA HARRIS, Trump specifically mentioned Springfield, saying that immigrants were taking over the city. “They’re eating the dogs. They’re eating the cats. They’re eating the pets of the people that live there,” he said.

One notable number

Number of years since North Korea has engaged with the international community on its nuclear program, according to RAFAEL GROSSI, head of the U.N.'s nuclear agency: 16

“The authoritarian wind’s blowing.”

—Mondino, speaking of the refusal of Maduro to step down after analysts agree he lost the election.

“In a competition of pain, there can be no winner.”

—ANNALENA BAERBOCK, Germany’s foreign minister

Netanyahu, facing military operations in Gaza and Lebanon and criticism from many quarters, is scheduled to speak on Friday. Protests around his visit are expected as well.

Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy speech at the Science and Industry Museum

Lisa Nandy declares culture, media and sport sectors crucial to national growth mission

The Rt Hon Lisa Nandy MP

From the England Football Team to our grassroots coaches, so many of you have told a different story and you have been a light on the hill in times of darkness.

And you’ve reminded us that there is a better country out there.

A few years ago I sat down with Danny Boyle, who hails from just down the road in Radcliffe. He says he’s from Bury, but he’s actually from Radcliffe.

And I asked him how a country that could unite so decisively around the inspiring and inclusive story of the 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony could descend so quickly into anger and polarisation and division.

I asked him where has that country had gone.

And he said simply, that it is still there. But it is waiting for someone to give voice to it again.

And that is my firm belief that this country, as George Orwell said, lies beneath the surface.

And it will be heard. Not out of some technocratic notion of fulfilling quotas, getting out of London, but because that voice has a spirit and energy our country desperately needs to hear.

We are meeting here for a reason.

Because this museum celebrates the industry, innovation, and enterprise of our people. The growing economy our country needs again. The contribution that regions like ours have made to our economy, our country and to the world.

But most of all it tells the story of all the parts of our nation.

It’s the story of the ordinary extraordinary people who contribute to the growth of our country, past and present. Who quietly in every community go out and build things that last and constantly, through their hard work, rewrite our national story.

I spent many, many happy times here in this museum as a kid.

And in turn have spent many happy times here with my little boy in recent years. Although he does want to know when the train section’s reopening.

He has grown up knowing, as my generation did, that this is his museum, his

inheritance – he belongs here, and this inheritance belongs to him.

This museum, like so many of your institutions, help to shape and define us as we shape and define them. We pass them down from one generation to the next. And we neglect them at our cost.

This museum is testament to the spirit of the city that has always believed in itself. And empowered the next generation to believe in itself anew; often despite the odds.

It was just down the road in Salford that Engels wrote ‘The Condition of the Working Class’ in a city that was the driving force of the industrial revolution.

That spirit lives on in my favourite museum – the People’s History Museum. It’s funded by the councils of Greater Manchester, and there’s a reason that we do. These are the councils who have always understood that the history of ordinary people and the ideas that drove them can not just help us not just to interpret the past, but can help us navigate the future.

That museum reminds us that change doesn’t come easily. It took the battle of

Peterloo to enfranchise the men who were building our country – and far too long before our women won that right too. But today I see that spirit at work right here amongst the amazing Mancunian women like Erinma Bell who leads the battle against the violence that scars a generation and shames our country and is a priority for our Government.

This was the city that gave the world the first free library - the Central Reference Library - which stands as a shining testament to how much the mothers and fathers of this city not only believed in our people, but cherished our culture.

And I grew up here in the aftermath of the Moss Side Riots and so it is in my DNA that never again can we be allowed to write off a generation of young people. It was that belief that led me into my first job at the youth homelessness charity Centrepoint – where I learnt everything I know about politics from those brave young people - and I feel them walking alongside me as we create a new generation of OnSide Youth Zones – from Wigan to Bolton - and show this generation that they matter to us again.

From Granada TV and its pioneering journalism, whether the campaign to free the Birmingham Six to the persistent approach to telling the story of Hillsborough and achieving justice for the 96 - to today’s Manchester Evening News that has defied the odds to become one of the most groundbreaking papers in the country and reminds us all why local and regional papers matter so much.

As the late great Tony Wilson said, “this is Manchester – we do things differently here”.

That drive, that creativity, that inclusion, that willingness to do things differently. That is the spirit of our new Government.

I hope you can see and feel it already through the curriculum review we’ve initiated to put creative and sports opportunities back at the heart of a richer, larger life for every single child.

I hope you can see it through our investment in grassroots sport and our determination that the legacy of the Paris Olympics and Euro 2024 is measured not just in trophies and medals but in choices and chances for every child wherever they live and whatever their background.

Through our partnerships with our mayors, councils, businesses and charities, we’re putting rocket boosters under our growing industries – film and theatre, TV, fashion, video games, heritage and tourism – to take the brakes off the economy, create opportunity for every child and to export our incredible talent across the world.

And through my drive to ensure the public appointments that we make truly reflect our country in all its glorious diversity. Not to fulfil a quota, but to ensure that our government draws on the creative might of all of our people.

This is the spirit this city has always embodied.

And this is the country that we can be.

When we turn to face the nation again in five years’ time, it is our ambition that we will face a self-confident country, at ease with itself, where all of our people see themselves in the story we tell ourselves about ourselves as a nation – their contribution seen and valued.

And that work will be the privilege of my life.

But it’s work that belongs neither to me nor to this Government but to each of us. Equal citizens, ordinary people, but each one of us with an extraordinary contribution to make.

I will not pretend it is easy.

But growing up here, with my background taught me that whatever people say - we can move mountains.

And when I said I wanted to do this – our first national event in Manchester – they said you wouldn’t come.

But you did.

And my message to each and every one of you is that if you share that belief in our country. If you have that zest to make change. If you want to challenge us and are willing to be challenged in turn.

Then I promise you. That we will walk alongside you. We will have your back. And we will give voice to the country many of us have believed in all our lifetime but never quite yet seen.

As the great Mancunian band Take That once said:

“We’ve come so far. And we hope for more.”

The next chapter in our country’s story is about to be written. What it looks like – is up to us.
