Blur or hide screen portion during realtime presentation

I am about to present my project tomorrow. Demonstrating the project involves showing account name to certain game, as my project manipulates that games launcher. Basically, I am about to present what I have described in this youtube video . You can see how I blurred the "Username" column.

In the video, I have blurred certain things. I was wondering if I could similarly hide my information during presentation. Answer to my question could also apply to people who want to hide their taskbar.

You can use on-screen annotation software to paint over the fields to hide before filling in their content. This would be in solid color though, not using a blur effect. The annotation "paint" will always be on top, but the annotation software will also allow you to use the windows below its layer.

For Windows, there is a list of software options here . For Linux, here .

How to Blur Sensitive Information while Screen Sharing or Video Recording

Nirmal

With the current situation, most of us are doing work from home and also meetings are done via video calls. So sometimes when you do screen sharing from your laptop, you might not know you are sharing sensitive information. This could be your personal details or could be the personal information of others like your clients. So in order to avoid this situation, you can use a free extension for Google Chrome called ZeroBlur. As the name indicates, the extension is useful to quickly blur sensitive information. You can now stop worrying about leaking sensitive data when delivering a product demo or a sales call. In a few clicks, you’ll be able to blur any element or page area of any web app or website.

Blur Sensitive Information

With ZeroBlur, you can now select any specific elements or areas of your app or website that you want to be blurred. Choose if you’re going to blur them only on one particular page or site-wide, and you’re good to go. The selected areas would be blurred and you do not have to worry about sharing any sensitive information.

Once you install the extension, you can do the following,

  • Blur specific DOM elements
  • Blur areas of the page with drag and drop
  • Define the intensity of the blur effect applied
  • For each blur area define if it should be applied only on the current page or domain-wide

Each time you blur a portion, it will be saved in the local PC, so that you don’t have to blur it again. ZeroBlur works with websites, server-side apps, and PWA. This extension is pretty handy even when you are making tutorial videos to be published online and using this extension you can blur all sensitive information.

Blur Sensitive Information

ZeroBlur is currently available for Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge and you can download from the link below. It will also be available for Firefox and Opera browsers later.

I needed to be able to hide the email addresses and the students names. And I found blurweb.app and blurscreen.app and it was amazing. I can't believe it's so reasonably priced and easy to use. So if you need to blur out some of your screen or things that you're working on, this is the app for you. Believe me. Kathy Sanders
It's crazy that such an important little utensil didn't see the light of day sooner, now that I have it (coupled with the blurweb.app extension) I can't do without it, I take screencasts every day, whether it's describing bugs or doing a tutorial and it's reassuring to be able to blur certain parts of what is displayed, and what it is even more, is that Sanskar, its developer, takes care of its customers, so go ahead and buy this app if your privacy is important to you! Ludovic S. Clain

Simple And Fast to use, I bought this because of the very low cost and because it looked simple and fast to use. And, indeed, it is simple and fast and just works. I like blurring out things in a simple explainer video BEFORE I make the video rather than having to use a video editor later. Jon

How to Blur a Video

Table of contents

Why blurring videos, how to blur videos with camtasia, how to blue a video, the faqs, subscribe to techsmith’s newsletter.

Blurring parts of your videos can be a great way to add privacy, eliminate distractions, and enhance the audience’s focus on your content. It’s also the best way to ensure you’re complying with privacy laws when showing content that includes sensitive information.

However, some video editing software can be tricky. Who wants to fiddel with loads of overly-complicated settings just to blur one small piece of information? Exactly, nobody!  Fortunately for you, there is a better way…

TechSmith’s Camtasia makes it easy to blur any element of your video, no matter how big or small. In this guide, we’ll walk you through a simple, step-by-step process on how to blur videos quickly and easily.

If, however, you’re trying to find out how to fix a blurry video, click here .

blur part of screen during presentation

There are more reasons to blur a video than simply wanting to hide someone’s identity or sensitive information. In fact, blurring can be a powerful tool in editing, offering several aesthetic and practical benefits.

Whether it’s to maintain focus, ensure privacy, or add a professional touch, being able to use the blur tool properly can transform your content, here’s how:

Busy background

It’s an easy thing to overlook, but having a busy background can detract from the primary subject of your video. However, by blurring out distracting elements, you can keep your viewers focused on what matters.

Whether it’s a cluttered room or an unorganized desktop, a blur effect helps maintain the audience’s focus on the content, ensuring your message is heard loud and clear.

Unwanted objects

Photobombs are the worst. Whether it’s an email notification popping up while you record your screen, or someone unexpectedly appearing in your shot, your viewer’s eyes will be drawn to these distracting intruders.

However, blurring these elements allows you to keep your content professional and focused without needing to start recording all over again. It’s an easy fix for those unforeseen intrusions that can occur while filming.

Protecting privacy is crucial, especially in today’s digital age. Blurring videos is key when displaying faces, license plates, emails, or other sensitive information that should be kept private.

Blurring sensitive data isn’t only the right thing to do, it could well be a legal necessity, especially if your video will be available to the public. It’s not just about protecting the person’s details — it’s about protecting yourself from a lawsuit should anything go awry.

Highlighting text

As well as hiding information, blurring out unnecessary text can be very effective in drawing people’s attention to specific details in your video. This technique creates a natural focal point, making it easier for your audience to focus on key information, be it in instructional content , product demos , or educational videos .

Step 1: Record or import your video

If you want to know how to make a video blurry, then you probably have some footage already. But if you don’t, we’ll show you how to import or record a video too.

Camtasia’s intuitive design makes it easier than ever to create professional-quality videos. Whether you’re making a YouTube video from scratch or just need to trim some footage , Camtasia could be exactly what you’re looking for.

Filmora Scrn

YouTubers and all other users of this software can feature themselves in the video. Filmora Scrn lets you capture videos with frame rates that go from 15 fps to 120 fps , and it also enables users to adjust the size of the screen area they want to capture.

3. Edit Video Footage with Creative Effects

Filmora Scrn Annotations

All files captured with the screen recorder are displayed in the software's video editor that allows you to trim or cut video clips, add captions, or use blending modes to merge the layers in your videos seamlessly.

The Annotations tab lets you add captions, overlays, speech bubbles, and, most importantly, blur effects. The Mosaic, Linear, Vertical, Horizontal , Horizontal Mix, and Vertical Mix blur options are available to users who want to protect sensitive info in their screen recordings. Let's have a look at how you can protect the privacy of the information in your screen recordings by blurring them in Filmora Scrn.

Filmora Scrn Blur Effects

There are two extraordinary blur effects we must mention here, one is called Horizontal Mix, and the other is Vertical Mix. Words cannot express how amazing it is; let me show you some examples.

The original frame is shown below, and I want to blur and hide these two sensitive pictures (in red mark).

Filmora Scrn Blur Effects

After I applied the Horizontal Mix blur and the Vertical Mix blur to these two pictures, below is what I got:

Filmora Scrn Blur Effects

See, these two "private" pictures are hidden as if nothing were here. Do not believe the miracles? Why not follow the steps below to check it by yourself?

Part 2: How to Blur and Hide Private Information with Filmora Scrn

Hiding the identity of the people in your videos and concealing private information like bank account or telephone numbers is advised if you want to avoid any chance of misuse of these data.

Step 1. Record a video or import a video file into the editor

Filmora Scrn Annotations

If you choose to capture a screen with the Filmora Scrn's screen recorder, the video file you create will be automatically imported into the software's video editor and placed into the Media Bin after the recording session is over.

Filmora Scrn's video editor supports most video file formats, including AVI, MP4, or MOV files. If you want to add blur effects to videos that weren't captured with Filmora Scrn, click on the Add Files icon in the editor's Media Bin, find the video file you'd like to work on and click Open. The file you imported will be displayed in the Media Bin, so to start editing it, drag and drop it to the timeline.

Step 2. Applying the Blur Effects

After you've placed a video clip on the timeline, you should click on the Annotations icon next to the Media icon on the left side of the screen. Select the Blur option from the drop-down menu and proceed to select the blur effect you'd like to add to your video.

Drag the effect you like the most to the timeline or drag it to the Canvas directly, and adjust its duration by removing the effect's end to the right.

Step 3. Tweaking the Effect's Settings

Filmora Scrn

On the right side of the editor's screen, you'll be able to see Transform and Blur options. Use the Transform feature to place the blur effect over the area of the shot in which the sensitive info is located to hide it from the spectators. Alternatively, you can move or resize the blurred window by dragging it on the software's preview screen.

Next to the Transform icon, you'll be able to see the Annotations icon, click on it and proceed to adjust the blur Intensity and Opacity features. You should repeat this process as many times as necessary until all the sensitive information in your video clip is blurred.

Step 4. Export the Video

Finally, you can go ahead and click on the Export button if you're happy with the results you achieved. Filmora Scrn lets you export your video files directly to YouTube, Vimeo, or Twitch, while you can also save your video clip to your hard drive in MP4, MOV, GIF, or MP3 file formats.

Ok, that's it. Hope you have hidden and blurred the private info in your recorded video. Leave a comment below and let us know if it works for you perfectly.

How To Live Blur A Screen On Windows 10

  • User by Fatima Wahab

Good screen recording software isn’t too hard to find. A basic screen casting tool will allow you to record your screen in reasonably good quality. A better tool will also give you an editing interface. What few screen recording tools give users is a way to add a live blur to your screen when you’re recording it.

SPOILER ALERT : Scroll down and watch the video tutorial at the end of this article.

When you record a screen cast, you very likely access apps that you use daily and these apps may contain your personal information e.g., your email, a phone number, etc. You can always hide them in post production however, that involves a good deal of editing and your editing software may not support an option like that, or it may be an complicated process to add the overlay post-production. A better way to go about it is to add a live blur to a screen with an app called ScreenDragons2.

Live Blur A Screen

Before you can live blur a screen with ScreenDragons2, you need to find the right image to do it. We recommend using an image with a striped or checkered pattern. You can easily find one via Google Images. Don’t worry about the image being transparent enough. You can control the image’s transparency and its size with the app. You can use both a JPG or an PNG image.

Download and run ScreenDragons2 . It will automatically add a nice glass stained-ish dragon to your screen. All you should do is right-click it and select the ‘Context menu’ option from the context menu.

Once you’re done, look for the image you want to use to live blur your screen. Right-click it and select the ‘Release a Screen Dragon’ option from the context menu.

This will add the image as an overlay to your screen. Click and drag the image to reposition it on your screen.

Next, you need to manage the size and the opacity. To increase or decrease the opacity, hold down the Alt key on your keyboard, and scroll with your mouse wheel. To increase or decrease the size of an image position your mouse cursor over it. Hold down the Shift key on your keyboard, and scroll the mouse wheel.

You might have to manage the proportions of the image you use but other than that, ScreenDragons2 will be able to take care of the size and the opacity.

You’d be surprised how many screen casting apps don’t support a feature like this. A lot of screenshot tools have this feature including live annotation tools but these same features are absent on screen recording and video editing tools.

Redact/blur parts of a video / screen-share when using OBS to stream to YouTube?

Can we redact / blur parts of a video / screen share when using OBS to stream to YouTube?

I use OBS to record walkthroughs and demos on my screen -- directly to YouTube as a private video first.

Before I publish that recorded demo I want to blur out some parts of my screen / text on the recording.

Is there a tool to make this workflow simpler?

Recording directly to youtube makes it simpler for me because I then dont need to worry about storing and uploading large video files. But If it is easier to do such work on local files, I can do that as well. Not looking for heavy tools like Davinci Resolve. Advice appreciated - thanks.
