MARCHING BAND
The Marching Cougars
The Marching Cougars' long hours, rigor of challenging music, and attention to detail consistently result in fantastic marching shows which are performed at all OHS home football games and weekend marching competitions in the local area.
Students are required to participate in the marching band if they are selected for the Symphonic Band ensemble.
Marching season begins at the end fo July with two weeks of Summer "Cougar Band Camp" at school where students learn the show for that year and ends with the VBODA State Marching Assessment (States) and the high school football season.
2024-25 MARCHING BAND INFORMATION AND SCHEDULES
After full preparation during Summer Band Camp, the Marching Band is ready for showtime in Fall. The Marching Band plays during the half-time shows and as the pep band in select football games and participates in area competitions—all these accumulate to the VBODA State Marching Assessment (States) in late October or early November. The schedule is below and subject to change. Consult the Downbeat for the latest information. ( The Downbeat is a weekly summary email for all things band. COMPETITION SCHEDULE
The Marching Cougars participate in weekly competitions to prepare for the VBODA State Marching Assessment (aka "States"). The competitions are always on Saturdays in the months of September and October and students should not plan any activities on competition days as departure and performance times vary from week to week. The detailed schedule is posted at the beginning of each week.

Youth Summer Camp
When school is out, steam camp is in.
Every year, Oakton College welcomes young people between ages 8 and 14 for a summer of learning and fun. At our STEAM Camps, students explore science, technology, engineering, art and math through a number of engaging and interactive experiences. This youth college program offers classes in fields like coding, game design, app development, virtual reality and more!

More than just fun and games, our programs provide engaging and unique learning opportunities for students ages 8 to 14 (unless otherwise noted) on a college campus. Don’t miss out on these diverse, academic youth programs.
Attendees can have fun designing Minecraft characters and objects, learning to code in HTML and JavaScript, creating virtual worlds and expanding their knowledge of science and engineering.
“Each summer, Oakton offers innovative and unique learning programs for youth,” says Jesse Ivory, dean of Adult and Continuing Education/dean of the Skokie campus. “We are especially excited about the opportunity to offer so many interactive and fully online courses this year. Participants are sure to have a fun, yet academically engaging and virtual experience.”
