One of the unique aspects of Sims 4 is how it mimics real-world experiences, including raising Sim children and boosting your Sim’s school performance. Understanding how to help with homework is challenging, especially with the complex updates since previous Sims games.

What You Need To Know About Homework in the Sims Universe

Homework is nothing new to the Sims franchise. The game capitalizes on real-world chores, like doing the dishes, parenting children, paying bills, going to work, and juggling each life stage. The homework system evolved throughout Sims 2 and 3 to reach the level it’s at now, which we discuss in more detail below.

Kids Must Go to School

The game requires all child Sims to attend school. In previous games, you could choose the type of grade school your children and teens attended, though now public school is your only option. Fortunately, you can influence their mood and social life during the school day by helping them make decisions about social dilemmas.

For example, you might receive a notification about another child Sim cheating on a test or bullying the younger Sims. Parenting your Sim through these scenarios directly impacts their personality.

Adults Can Choose To Attend University

Young adult Sims can choose to further their education by attending a university. You can pick between two schools with the Discover University Expansion pack. Before attending, your Sims must apply, as real university students would.

The two university options, the University of Britechester or the Foxbury Institute of Technology, will analyze your Sim’s skills and grades before offering an acceptance or denial letter. You can also apply for scholarships and loans to help finance your Sim’s education. Once they attend school, they can choose a different degree like literature, electronic arts, science, technology, etc.

Every adult Sim attending a university must complete homework, just like the child Sims do, though they usually spend less time each day in class. University students must balance term papers, daily homework, extra credit, and exams while attending classes. Helping your older Sim stay on track with their university homework prevents them from failing the semester.

You Don’t Need to Worry About School Transportation

You’ll notice that Sims 4 doesn’t have a school bus or any other transportation system to get your child or teen Sims to school. Luckily, you don’t need to worry about walking them or watching them arrive. In Sims 4, all students automatically teleport to the necessary classroom at the appropriate times.

Locating Homework Gets Complicated

Keeping track of all the homework in the Sims 4 universe isn’t easy. Each student’s age group receives different homework books, so it’s important to keep them organized. The following key outlines each Sim’s homework book color by age:

• Children: Yellow Grade School Handbook and orange homework book
• Teen’s homework: Blue homework book
• Adults: Black and white book (found in the Sims inventory)

You can purchase books and copies if your Sim loses the original version. We also recommend getting a bookcase to organize all homework books in your house. Adult students can purchase books and homework from the University Kiosk.

How To Do Homework: Sims 4

Now that you understand how homework functions, let’s discuss how to help your Sims family dominate homework. School work is a necessary evil in the game because Sims’ grades suffer when they skip homework or turn in incomplete homework.

Completing Homework for Sims 4 Kids

When your child Sim comes home from school, they’ll bring an orange book in their backpack with all their homework. You must have them complete homework before the next school day. Follow these instructions:

• Open the Sim’s inventory for your younger Sims.
• Click “Do homework.”
• Aid them with any needs as they work.
• Send an adult Sim to help with the child’s homework.
• Click “help with homework” from the adult Sim’s inventory.
• Increase child “skills” levels to complete homework faster (like the research and debate skill).
• Once finished, have the Sim complete extra credit to boost homework grades.

Note that whenever you leave a Sim to do homework, they will continue working until finished unless they need something. Keep an eye on event triggers and low needs to ensure that your Sim child or teen continues working hard.

Helping Sim Teens Dominate Homework

Teenaged Sims complete regular homework just like the younger Sims. Once they’re home from school, open up the inventory menu and select the option to work on class homework. You can make one of your other Sims offer homework help to complete the process more quickly by following the same instructions above.

If your teen Sim has a B in the class, they can choose to do extra credit as well to boost their grades. Helping your teen Sim get an A improves their odds of getting accepted into a university.

We also recommend getting earbuds from the Fitness Stuff Pack to let your teens listen to music while they do homework. Sometimes grueling school hours can decrease fun levels, but music helps keep energy high.

Completing School Projects

Aside from regular homework, sometimes your family members bring home school projects. In Sims 4: Parenthood, you’ll likely see a school project at least once weekly.

Unlike homework, projects are semi-optional. If your Sim completes the work, their grade goes up, but if they don’t finish it in a few days, their grade will only go down a small amount.

You can have your Sims complete projects just as they do homework. The new homework project appears in the inventory, where you can prompt your Sim to begin working on it. You have two options to choose from when they do homework for a school project:

• Sloppy : Letting your Sim do homework sloppily completes the project faster, though it offers smaller grade increases.
• Careful : When Sims work carefully on a project, they boost their grades more and gain certain skills, depending on the project type. Child Sims might gain creativity or building skills while teens can acquire more specific ones like painting or rocket science skills.

To make the homework project fly by, you can have up to three Sims work on it together, including adults. We recommend assigning an adult with more advanced skills to help move things along. Once completed, any child Sims will receive improved responsibility character value scores.

Completing Adult Sim University Work

If you sign up for the University Expansion, you have the fun opportunity of sending your adult Sims to college. University homework is more advanced since it requires your Sims to do homework for multiple classes at once. Rather than doing one homework assignment daily, each Sim might need to complete two or three to prepare for classes the next day.

When you’re ready to have your Sim do homework, click on the specific homework book for the class you want them to work on. Remember, university books are black and white. After selecting the appropriate class, your Sim can work on their homework for as long as you choose.

Adult Sims with strong research and debate skill levels enjoy rapid homework completion rates. We recommend helping your Sims improve their debate skills to finish homework quickly.

Tips for Finishing Homework Faster

Balancing homework with other life stresses is challenging in Sims 4. If you want to help your Sims finish their homework quickly and easily, use these tips:

• Help your Sims increase their logic skill level.
• Work on skills related to their major or classes.

The Sims 4: How to do Homework

Homework in The Sims 4 is a necessary evil and a part of everyday life for most people IRL so it makes sense that it would be inside a life simulation game. From the time your sims turn into children until they’ve graduated University they are going to be doing homework and it will take up a significant part of their lives.

There are actually a few hacks you should know to get your sims to have more fun when doing homework, get it done quicker, and just generally finish it in a timely fashion that will make you a better sims player.

How to Do Homework for Children

When a sim’s kid returns from their long day at school they are going to have a little orange book inside of their inventory which is their homework. This should be completed before they attend school again which is usually the next day unless it’s the weekend.

You can get your sims to start doing their homework by clicking on the homework book in their inventory and choosing do homework . Your sims will find the nearest place to sit (even on the ground) to start working on their homework and will work until they are finished unless they are interrupted by low needs or an event trigger like a fire.

Any adult can come over to this sim while they are doing their homework and you can choose help with homework which will get the adult involved and sitting with the child and they will get their homework done much quicker.

There is even a system for sims kids (not teens) where if your kid gets all of the four children skills to level 3 they’ll have the option to breeze through homework instead of do homework and this will get the job done quicker.

Getting these skills all to level 7 will give them the option to dominate homework which will get it done even more quickly. This is a nice hack to really finish it without it being a huge part of their day.

Once a child has finished their homework, if they have a B or higher in school, they actually have the option to do extra credit after they’ve finished their regular homework. This is good for you if you want to get your sims to increase their school performance.

If you ever find your sims without a homework book in their inventory and you have no idea where it could be you can actually purchase these for one simoleon on any book case!

How to Do Homework for Teens

Homework works pretty much the same way for teens except their homework book is a nice blue colour instead of the orange that kids get. To get them to work on their homework you’ll get them to go into their inventory and click on it and choose do homework and they will start working on it.

They too have the option to have an adult sim to help with homework by getting that sim to click on them when they’ve started their homework and getting them to assist to make it go more quickly.

Once a teenager has a B in school they have the option to do extra credit after they’ve finished their regular homework. This will help them increase their school performance and get to an A as soon as possible.

Bonus Tip: Use the earbuds from The Sims 4: Fitness Stuff Pack when doing homework to keep your sims fun need up so they aren’t feeling tense when they’re done working on it.

School Projects

With The Sims 4: Parenthood there’s a pretty decent chance each week that your sims kids will come home with a school project that they can decide to complete for a boost to their grades. If they don’t complete it within a few days they may get a small decrease to their school grades but it’s not substantial.

These projects come home with your sims in their inventory and are rather easy to complete. They have the option to work on it either carefully or sloppily. Choosing sloppily will get the job done quicker, however, you won’t see a huge increase to their grades but you also won’t see a decrease.

The better option is to work carefully so your sims can improve their school grades. While they are working on these projects they’ll actually gain a skill depending on the type of homework they are working on. For sims kids they’ll be skills like mental, creativity, etc. but for teenagers it’ll be more specific like rocket science or painting .

One awesome thing is that you can get other sims to assist in the project up to 3 sims so you can get these projects done extremely quickly and if an adult sim who has a high skill in the project type assists it’ll go so quickly.

Working on these will also increase your sim’s kids’ responsibility character value which is awesome but failing to complete it will negativity impact this.

How to Do Homework in University

With the 2019 addition of The Sims 4: Discover University we have a whole new type of homework for your sims to have to work on. These homework books are going to be a black and white composite notebook that will appear in your sims inventory when they enroll in their first semester of university.

Each time your sim goes to a class they are going to need to do their homework before they attend that class if they want to get a good grade, meaning that if you’re taking multiple classes your sim will be needing to do homework multiple times per week.

To get this University homework done you’ll want to click on the homework book and choose which class’ homework you actually want to work on and get started. You don’t have to do it all in one sitting so you can start and stop as many times as you want.

An awesome detail about University homework is that if your sims have a high level of the research and debate skill they’ll actually breeze through their homework much more quickly. You can also add the study spot lot trait to your sim’s lot to make it easier.

Homework is something you can’t avoid if you want your sims to do well in school when they’re young, but there’s no need to stress about it. Sims grades won’t affect their later days work performance or the overall success in their life, so no worries if you don’t get it done. Happy Playing!

Doing a 4 course in sims 4 is a real tedious chore. It will consume all your sims time and you won’t have time to do anything else. They did this way worse than sims 3 university.

There are a few tricks mind you! First of all you can be at home instead, makes it all much easier and you can(like mentioned above) add the “study spot” trait to your home.

The next trick is using the club! Make sure, if you go to the university, add everyone you see to your club. Focus on getting “Rally the Troops” perk. That will allow you to get back all your energy and other needs quickly whenever you want. There is no cooldown on this. It requires 500 points so it’s not bad at all. Just make sure the gathering is on at all times(which it should be since you most likely won’t be leaving the lot). The homework perk does not work for university.

EA could easily have fixed this by reducing the homework time from 2 hours to 1 hours imo. They made it too much of a chore. It’s a GAME after all.

But that’s the whole challenge bruh

In The Sims 4 ’s new expansion, High School Years , your teen Sims can head out to school the same way some Sims head to work. You can go with them to control what they do throughout the school day, affecting their relationships and academic growth.

Notably, in the career tab for the teen Sim, you’ll see that they have a daily task to “do homework” after every school day (as you’d expect from school). Though homework for young Sims is not a new addition, it can be new for players who never had teenage Sims.

The homework your teen Sim has to do will be in their personal inventory , as a little blue book. You can select it and click “do homework” and your teen Sim will move to a nearby table to do it.

Based on our gameplay, not doing homework didn’t do anything too dramatic to the Sims’ school performances. As long as your teen Sim is attending class, they’ll progress in their career just fine. However, if you want them to improve their grades faster, they should actively be doing their homework.

How to do your homework in The Sims 4

Graduate with good grades by staying on top of your teen Sim's schoolwork.

Whether your younger Sims are child prodigies or avid ditchers, chances are, you've dealt with quite a few popups encouraging them to do their homework . It's easy to forget about their homework, lose it, or even sell it by accident. Plus it's just time consuming to complete (and uneventful to watch), making it all around difficult to keep Sims' grades up if they have virtually any other responsibilities or hobbies.

Despite being a pain for a lot of busy Sims, homework is crucial to getting your kids good grades and boosting their skills. Or, if your older Sims are in university through the Discover University pack, it's absolutely necessary to avoid getting that terrifying academic probation warning at the end of a term.

Here's everything you'll need to know about doing your homework in The Sims 4 , including how to do it at all ages, how to get new homework if you've misplaced it, and how to speed up the process.

To get a child or teen Sim to do their homework, open your Sim's inventory, locate their homework book (it'll be orange if your Sim is a child and blue if they're older) and click the "Do Homework" option. If you're tired of your Sims doing homework in weird places—mine always go straight to their parents' offices—you can also drag their homework from their inventory, place it where you want in the house, and click on it to "Do Homework" there instead.

As your Sims work their way up the educational ladder and become B students, they'll earn the option to do extra credit after their usual homework, which you'll do in the same way as regular homework and will deliver a helpful boost to their school standing.This process is a bit different if your Sim is in University via the Discover University pack. You can still find their homework in their inventory, but just like in real life, any Sim in university will have a much heavier homework load with homework for every class. Depending on the class, they'll also have final exams to study for and term presentations and papers to prepare, so make sure to get a head start!

Besides completing their usual booklets, there are a few extra ways for younger Sims to get their homework done that come with different packs. If you have the My First Pet Stuff pack, your child Sims can complete their homework by interacting with a hamster (or other hamster-esque pet) and clicking "Study Rodent," which is an especially adorable interaction to watch. I'm a big fan of giving all my kids pet rats and hedgehogs so they can get their homework while bonding with their little friends.

If you have the Parenthood pack, every Monday, your grade school and high school aged Sims will come home with school projects. To do these, you'll want to drag them into the world and then interact with them. You'll get to choose between working on them carefully or sloppily, and other Sims can pitch in as well to speed up the process (and even win the project's owner some extra credit).

Where'd your Sim's homework go?

If your Sim is missing their homework book, here are a few things that might have happened to it:

• It might have been stashed in the family inventory in Build Mode
• They left it at an entirely different lot
• You accidentally sold it (for a whopping 1 Simoleon!)

If you can't find your Sim's homework for the night, it likely wasn't a teacher's act of kindness and you'll need to buy them a new booklet. Sims won't get new homework when they head to school again. You can replace missing homework by using any bookshelf and clicking the "Purchase Books" option and selecting homework. If your Sim is in university, you can also buy them a new homework book via the kiosks found around campus.

How to do homework faster in The Sims 4

There are also a few ways you can speed up your Sim's homework times, which is especially useful if you're attempting to raise a well-rounded kid by squeezing in other after school activities. The best way of doing this, though, is simply by doing your homework as often as possible. As your Sims' grades improve, this option will change to "Breeze Through Homework" and eventually "Dominate Homework," allowing them to knock out their homework a lot faster.

Having your Sims' parents help them with their homework is also always a good idea—it'll speed the process up quite a bit and allow your Sims to bond in the process. If you have more kids than older Sims in the household, you can always invite over some adults from the town to help, which is a little weird in practice, but hey! It works.

If you're playing with Discover University, the Study Spot lot trait helps students of all ages do their homework faster and lets them work for longer without getting tired. Giving a lot you're living in this trait is always a good option to save on travel time, but if you'd rather not change your own lot's traits, the library in Britechester comes with this trait and is just a gorgeous spot to study in.

Lastly, having some Simanite (a crystal from the Crystal Creations pack) can help your Sims get homework done faster.

Your Sim lost their homework book? You can get it back

In a previous post, we showed you what you can do to help your Sims complete their homework faster . But I recently came across a different homework-related issue that’s been bugging many users for quite some time.

Many players complained about their Sim’s homework suddenly disappearing from their inventory. Unfortunately, getting it back is not that obvious.

In this guide, we’ll explore why that happens and how you restore your Sim’s homework.

No, we’re not going to play Sherlock Holmes here.

Let’s dive right in!

Why is my Sim’s homework book missing?

Sims often drop their homework books on the floor. They rarely put their homework books in their inventories after doing their homework. As a result, they can’t find their notebooks when they get to class.

The quickest solution to find missing homework books in The Sims 4 is to look around the house or dorm.

If you’re lucky, you’ll quickly come across your Sim’s homework book and put it back in their inventory.

But sometimes, you won’t be able to find it.

Don’t be surprised if non-controlled roommates leave their homework books on the study table in the dorm.

What to do if you lose your homework book in The Sims 4

Buy new homework books.

You can buy grade school and university homework books for $1.

To buy a new homework book in The Sims 4, click on the bookcase or computer, select Order Books , and buy the homework book you want.

If you’re buying a new homework book for a child, have an adult purchase it. Then put the book on a table for the child to pick it up.

If you’re playing The Sims 4 Discover University and your Sim’s homework book is missing, you can buy a new one by clicking on the bookshelf.

If you’re on campus, you can go to the campus kiosk and purchase the homework you need.

Delete or sell your bookcases

Other users suggested that selling or deleting your current bookcases and buying new ones could solve the problem. Sometimes, your bookcases might get glitched.

This often happens when you move a Sim to a new household and bring their furniture and bookcases with them. Replacing the problematic bookcases should fix the problem.

Check other Sims’ inventories

Your Sim’s homework may have accidentally landed in the inventory of another Sim.

Many players confirmed they found their Sim’s homework in someone else’s inventory.

How to Find Sims 4 Lost Homework: What To Do When Homework is Missing

Oh no, your sim’s homework is not in their inventory! Here’s how to quickly fix the sims 4 missing homework glitch.

What to do if you lost homework in Sims 4?

There are really only two things you can do if your sim’s homework is lost: you can look for it by checking all the places missing homework usually ends up or you can buy new homework.

If you need more help than that, you’ll find it all in this post!

First, I’ll go over the best places to find lost homework then I’ll show you all the easy ways you buy new homework (university homework included!)

Places to Check for Sims 4 Missing Homework

The most obvious explanation is that it’s somewhere in or around your sim’s home.

Check all around your lot for the lost homework. Child sims love to stop doing their homework and leave it randomly in the middle of the floor!

If your sim was doing homework at a community lot , it’s likely they set it down and it’s somewhere around there.

If your sim tries to leave the community lot without bringing their homework, usually you’ll get a notification that it’s been returned to their inventory when your sim gets back home.

I know I already told you to look around your sim’s lot, but just in case you didn’t already, check any bookshelves around the house . It may have been put away in there.

And lastly, if your sim’s homework isn’t in their inventory, maybe it’s in someone else’s.

View the inventory of all the sims in your household to check that the lost homework wasn’t stolen!

How to Buy Homework in Sims 4

If you can’t find your sim’s homework notebook, there are 4 ways to buy new homework in Sims 4: bookshelf, computer, university kiosk, or build mode by unlocking hidden objects .

I’ll take you through how to buy new homework using each of these methods.

And in case you were worried, it doesn’t affect your sim’s homework completion level if they lose it and have to buy new. Your sim’s homework will still be listed as complete if they had completed it before it went missing!

To buy homework using a bookshelf, click ‘ purchase books ‘ and then select ‘ homework books ‘ from the drop-down categories.

This will allow you to buy all the possible homework types in Sims 4 including:

• grade school homework
• homework (high school)
• university homework
• soccer team playbook
• teacher’s padfolio of student homework

Prices vary, but high school, university, and grade school homework is 1 simoleon.

Keep in mind that when you buy homework with the bookshelf, the new homework will be on the bookshelf.

After buying, you need to open the bookshelf and place it in your sim’s inventory.

To buy homework in sims 4 using the computer, you’ll follow almost exactly the same steps you did when buying with the bookshelf.

I have a mod in my game that makes the computer setup more organized, so my sim’s computer menu looks different. (You can find it at #32 on my list of must-have sims 4 mods !✨)

But all you have to do is find the ‘ purchase books ‘ option and then select ‘ homework books ‘ from the drop-down categories, just like you did with the bookshelf.

This time, the new homework will be put directly into your sim’s inventory!

If your sim is in college and lost their homework, you can buy new university homework at the kiosk located on campus in either Britechester or Foxbury.

Just find the kiosk and click ‘ buy university items ‘.

Then you’ll want to click on the book icon labeled ‘ academics ‘ to narrow the items down even further.

You can find the university homework by scrolling all the way down. Just buy it and it will appear in your sim’s inventory!

And finally, you can easily buy homework in build mode by unlocking all hidden objects using cheats.

If you don’t know how to do that, here’s my easy step-by-step guide on how to unlock hidden all items in build mode .

Once unlocked, search for homework in build mode and place it somewhere on your sim’s lot.

Then have your sim put it into their inventory by clicking on the homework or simply dragging it directly into their inventory!

The Sims 4 CC Beds: Issues & Solutions

Mysterious Last Exceptions? Can’t Pillow Fight on CC Beds?

We’ve got bad news. There’s another casualty of the High School Years Patch and Expansion Pack–CC beds. This does not include toddler beds and recolors, only the child through elder beds broke. While we wait for Sims 4 Studio to hopefully come out with a batch fix to fix the beds, here’s what you need to know.

CC beds broke due to the addition of the new bed animations for the High School Years Expansion Pack. If you don’t have the Expansion Pack, you won’t be getting Last Exceptions, but the beds are still out of date and broken.

Q: Why is the game sending last exceptions even when the bed isn’t in use? This is due to the Sim trying to autonomously use the bed with the new animations.

Q: Why did the beds break? The beds broke due to EA adding to the inner structure of beds that is needed for Sims to do the new animations.

Q: Is there any way to fix beds at this time? Yes! Lucky for us, Peacemaker released a set of instructions for how to fix CC beds.

How to Fix Custom Content Beds

From: Peacemaker’s Tumblr

1. Download new version of S4S (better safe then sorry)

2. Open the cheat console within S4S by pressing crtl_shift+C

3. In the popup, type “object-preview” (best to full screen this popup, as we need all the space to see warehouse tab)

4. search for bed

5. Click on a double bed and wait for it to load in 6. Go to Warehouse tab and find the Rig and Slot resources (usually one after the other).

7. Click on the rig resource (it will be highlighted blue), and on the far right bottom click the “export” button.

8. Save the file somewhere easy to find and with a good name (like bedding-double-rig)

9. Click on the Slot resource next and repeat as above.

10. If you have single bedding as well, find one in the far left panel and load in. Repeat exporting the rig and slot information (making sure to label single and double bed resources clearly when exporting so you don’t mix them up).

11. Close the object-preview window

12. Open a copy of your broken bedding. Best to do on a copy, because if you mess you can just delete and make another copy.

13. Go to warehouse tab and click on the rig resource.

14. On the bottom right, click Import and navigate to where you saved your exported resources. Make sure you are importing the rig resource and not slot resource, otherwise it will throw and error.

15. Import the double bed rig.

16. Click on the Slot resource and import the new slot resource.

18. Test in game, when placing it shouldn’t disappear, and you should have option for pillow fight. And of course, no exemption error should be thrown.

Also, a lot of creators have already updated their beds. Below is a list of some of the up-to-date beds.

What to do when sims 4 won’t open (2022 fix).

There’s nothing that sours a simmer’s mood quite like sitting down to play, only to find that The Sims 4 won’t open. Here’s how to fix the game so you can stop stressing and get back to playing!

There can be many reasons why your Sims 4 game just won’t open. Mods and CC, corrupted game files, or lack of updates on your PC are just a few possible examples. As frustrating as it can be, luckily there are several ways of solving this issue if you’re experiencing it. In this post, we’re going to go over the multiple methods of fixing the issue of The Sims 4 not opening. Keep in mind that it’s always possible you have more than one issue going on, so it’s recommended you try all the methods in this post when troubleshooting why The Sims 4 won’t open.

What To Do When The Sims 4 Won’t Open

There are lots of factors behind the scenes that ensure a game launches and performs as it should, and if anything is out of line it can prevent the game from running. Let’s go over all the ways to troubleshoot this issue so you can stop stressing and get back to playing!

Close all Processes (and Restart Your PC If Necessary)

Before you do anything else, you should restart the game and, if needed, your PC. This will end all the processes that may be blocking Sims 4 from launching while they’re working in the background; in some cases the game is just caught up or experiencing a hiccup and this fixes the problem. Opening Task Manager can show you if you have any Sims 4 processes still on; for example the game may not have fully quit out the last time you played so it can’t launch again.

It’s also possible your computer has downloaded updates and a restart will finish installing those updates, allowing the game to run as it should again.

Task Manager is also a helpful application if your game freezes. Learn how to close a frozen game here.

Search Error Codes

Sometimes when The Sims 4 won’t start you’ll actually get a popup explaining why, with a long and confusing error code. If you’re lucky you can search the error code online and find a clear explanation for what it means, but other times it may remain a mystery. We have tips on how to fix those error codes (many of which are repeated here), so if the game gives you a code this is the best place to start in trying to fix your game.

Check Your Custom Content

If The Sims 4 won’t start after rebooting your computer it’s possible there’s a bad file among the game data, most likely a bad piece of CC. Remove your Mods folder (you can temporarily place it one your desktop or somewhere else for safekeeping) and run the game; if it starts up then you know you have one or more pieces of bad or conflicting CC preventing the game from booting.

Clear Your Caches

The Sims 4 saves many items in cache folders, which is where you can find things the game has stored for repeated access such as family portraits and catalog thumbnails. Typically these files are fine but every now and then if a folder gets too big or a file gets corrupted it can result in the game not opening. Learn how to easily clear your caches with our guide .

Repair Your Sims 4 Game

If your Sims game won’t open even after you’ve restarted your PC, checked your Custom Content, and cleared your caches, the best thing to do next is to Repair your game. Don’t worry, repairing a game is pretty easy, especially for The Sims 4 . Open the the EA App , select The Sims 4 from the installed games list on the right, click “ Manage ” and then select “ Repair .” Depending on your PC, this may take anywhere from 2-3 minutes to 10-15 minutes at most.

If you use Steam instead, go to your Steam Library . Find your Sims 4 game and click on Properties . Then go to the Local Files tab and select Verify Integrity of Game Files to start repairing your game. Wait for everything to finish before you try opening TS4 again.

Your game may need repair even if you haven’t done anything to it recently. I find the most common reason this happens is when the game attempts to update but can’t finish completely, due to the internet cutting out or the computer being shut down too soon, for example. This leaves the game data incomplete which means The Sims 4 won’t open. Doing a repair can replace missing files, fix data that wasn’t completed, and otherwise spruce it up and get it working again.

Update Your Graphics Card Drivers

Sometimes, the problem isn’t with the game itself—outdated graphics card drivers can also cause many problems for many games, including TS4. It’s best to keep all of your drivers updated, but especially your graphics card since it can directly impact your gaming experience.

Navigate to the Device Manager on your computer, and click Display Adapters . Your graphics card should be displayed below it, and from there you can right-click and select Update Driver . If your PC isn’t set to automatically download updates you may want to consider activating it, so your drivers stay updated without manual intervention.

If you’re using an Nvidia graphics card, I suggest you download GeForce Experience too. It’s a free app made exclusively for you to manage your video games while using Nvidia. It offers optimization for all games you have, including The Sims 4.

Backup & Reinstall The Sims 4

If none of the methods above worked for you, then it’s time to think about reinstalling The Sims 4 . I know, the process of reinstalling is painful and boring, but you have to do it in this case. Be sure to backup the game first if you don’t want to lose your game data, then simply go to your Control Panel , go to Add or Remove Programs , find The Sims 4 , and Uninstall it. I advise you to do this for the EA App or Steam as well if you want to go above and beyond.

To backup the game there are several folders you’ll want to copy and store to be replaced once your reinstall is complete which can be found in Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4:

• Saves: This folder holds all the game data for the various saves you may have.
• Tray: This folder is where you will find your personal Gallery content of households and lots. Any time you’ve backed up a family or build in the game, it’s gone here.
• Mods: Pretty self-explanatory. You can skip copying this one if you want to start with a clean CC slate.
• Screenshots: All the screen shots you’ve taken will be saved here unless you use another program to change the file path, such as Gshade.
• Recorded Videos: Any video you’ve taken in the game will be archived here.

You can copy these folders to your desktop if you’re just trying to do a reinstall of the game, but if you want to back them up in a more secure fashion it’s good to store them on another hard drive or through cloud storage. If you really want security I’d suggest backing them up in multiple places.

After you’ve reinstalled the game you can return the folders you’ve backed up to Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4 but be advised they will overwrite what’s already in there. If you’ve done anything in your new game that you’ve saved it will be lost once the files are overwritten.

Finding that The Sims 4 won’t start can be a pain, but it’s not an uncommon issue. With the game being close to a decade old now there’s a lot of experience out there from users who have had to troubleshoot their own stalling games, so the knowledge is available to help you figure it out. With a little patience and this guide, you should be able to have you game back in tip-top shape in just a few hours, if that. We hope it helps get you back to having fun in The Sims 4 !

what if i have a brand new laptop (windows) and i used to play on an older laptop with mods. On my new laptop im starting fresh with no mods no downloads in my folder, nothing. Now that i downloaded EA and my sims it says it cannot open due to mods being installed and i need to delete them. But i can’t because there are no mods on my new laptop and the old laptop is dead and wont turn on, what do i do?

I have done everything and it sill wont open.
