App-Based Presentation Software for Mac

There's no place more convenient and friendly for Mac users than the default App Store. Explore some of the options without the hassle of going through the enormous app library we listed below:

#1 - Keynote for Mac

Top feature: Compatible with all Apple devices and has cross-platform sync.

Keynote for Mac is that popular face in your class that everyone knows but not everyone is fully acquainted with.

Pre-installed as a complimentary on Mac computers, Keynote can be easily synced to iCloud, and this compatibility makes transferring presentations between your Mac, iPad and iPhone incredibly simple.

If you are a pro Keynote presenter, you can also make your presentation come alive with illustrations and such with some doodling on the iPad. In other good news, Keynote is now exportable to PowerPoint, which allows for even more convenience and creativity.

#2 - TouchCast Pitch for Mac

Top feature: Make live or pre-recorded presentations.

TouchCast Pitch blesses us with many quintessential online meeting features, such as intelligent business templates, real-looking virtual sets and a personal teleprompter, which is super helpful to ensure we're not leaving anything out.

And if you want to record your presentation without using a third-party recording app? TouchCast Pitch gives you the power to do that and polish it with their simple editing tool besides presenting live.

As with many other choices for presentation software for Mac, there are numerous templates to choose from. You can also create your presentation from scratch and show off your design skills.

You can make changes to your slides from anywhere, as this bit of kit is available to download straight from the App Store.

#3 - FlowVella for Mac

Top features: Mobile-friendly and Adobe Creative Cloud integrated with a multi-purpose template library.

If you're looking for a quick and rich presentation format, then try FlowVella . Whether you're presenting a pitch in front of investors or designing a lesson for the class, FlowVella lets you create embedded videos, links, galleries, PDFs and such at the touch of your fingertips. No need to pull out a laptop as everything is "drag-and-drop" simply on an iPad.

The interface for FlowVella on Mac isn’t quite perfect, some of the text is hard to read. But, it’s an intuitive system and if you’ve used any other kinds of software for presentations on Mac, you should be able to pick it up easily enough.

Also, thumbs up for their customer support. You can contact them via live chat or email and they'll address your problems quick as lightning.

#4 - PowerPoint for Mac

Top features: Familiar interface and file formats are widely compatible.

PowerPoint really is a staple for presentations, but to use it on your Mac, you will need to own a license for a Mac-compatible version of the presentation software. These licenses can be a bit pricey, but that doesn’t seem to deter people, as it's estimated that around 30 million PowerPoint presentations are created every day.

Now, there is an online version that you can access for free. The limited features will be enough for most simple presentations. But, if you put diversity and engagement to the front, you are better off using one of the many alternatives to PowerPoint software for Mac.

Web-Based Presentation Software for Mac

Although convenient, the app-based presentation software for Mac's biggest weakness is they are only available to your own kind, which is a turn-off for any presenter who yearns for two-way interaction and lively engagement with their audience.

Our proposed solution is simple. Migrate your ordinary presentation to one of the best web-based presentation software for Mac below👇

#5 - AhaSlides

Top features: Interactive presentation slides all for free!

AhaSlides is a cloud-based interactive presentation software born from a group of tech guys who had experienced Death by PowerPoint firsthand

It gives you the means to create an interactive presentation with which your audience can respond to your questions using just their phones.

From live quiz options with leaderboards to brainstorming tools perfect for gathering opinions and adding Q&As , there’s something for every type of presentation.

For presenters in business, you could try adding sliding scales and polls that will contribute to real-time graphics when your audience interacts via their smartphones. If you’re exhibiting at a show or presenting in front of large numbers of people, this can be a great tool for gathering opinions and encouraging focus. It's great for any type of iOS device and it’s web-based – so it’s great for other systems tools!

So, Is there a Canva app for Mac? Of course, Yes!! 👏

Top features: Diverse templates and copyright-free images.

Canva is free presentation software for Mac that you’re after that’s all about design, so there are a few options better than Canva. With a huge array of elements and copyright-free imagery available, you can drag and drop them straight into your presentation.

Canva prides itself on ease of use, so even if you’re not the most creative person in the world, you're still able to create your slides on the go with Canva's drag-and-drop functionality. There’s also a paid version if you want to access more templates and elements created by professional designers from around the world.

Even though Canva has the option to convert your presentation to PDF or PowerPoint, we recommend you present it straight from its website since we've encountered text overflow/errors in the designs while doing that.

#7 - Zoho Show

Top features: Multi-platform integration, minimalist designs.

If you are a fan of minimalism, then Zoho Show is the place to go.

One of the key differences between Zoho Show and some of the other web-based presentation software is its compatibility features. With integration to sites like Giphy and Unsplash , Zoho makes adding graphics directly to your presentations easy.

It’s a great option if you’re already using some of the Zoho suites, and therefore probably most suitable as a free presentation option for businesses.

Still, like Canva, Zoho Show also encounters the same problem with its export to PDF/PowerPoint feature, which often results in blank or damaged files.

Top features: Template library and animated elements.

Prezi is a bit of a unique option in this list. It's one of the top bits of linear presentation software out there, meaning you can see your presentation as a whole and head to different sections in fun and imaginative ways.

You can also present live and overlay your video on the slides, just like TouchCast Pitch . Their huge template library is a great bonus for most presenters getting started, but you likely won't be able to flex much creativity using Prezi's free version.

#9 - Slidebean

Top features: Business templates and a pitch deck design service.

Slidebean is designed mostly for businesses, but its functionality would be suitable for other uses. They provide pitch deck templates that you can reuse and repurpose for your own business. The designs are smart, and it’s no real surprise that they also offer a pitch deck design service.

It's simple to use and has simple offerings. If you're keeping things simple, try it out!

#10 - Adobe Express (Adobe Spark)

Top features: Stunning templates and team collaboration.

Adobe Express (formally Adobe Spark) is quite similar to Canva in its drag-and-drop feature to create graphics and other design elements. Being web-based, it is, of course, a compatible Mac presentation software and also offers integration with other Adobe Creative Suite programs, which is useful if you create any elements with Photoshop or Illustrator.

However, with so many design assets going on, the website can run pretty slowly.

#11 - Powtoon

Top features: Animated slides and one-click animation

You might know Powtoon from their video animation creation feature, but do you know that they also offer a different, creative way to design a presentation? With Powtoon, you can easily create video presentations with no skills from thousands of custom designs.

For some first-time users, Powtoon can be a bit confusing because of its overburdened interface. You'll need a bit of time to get used to it.

#12 - Google Slides

Top features: Free, accessible and collaborative.

With many features that are basically the same as PowerPoint, you won't have much trouble creating a presentation on Google Slides .

Since it's web-based, you and your team can seamlessly collaborate, comment or make suggestions for others. If you want to get interactive, Google Slides' plugin library also has different, fun third-party apps to integrate directly into the slides.

Just a warning - sometimes the plugin can make your presentation VERY laggy, so use it with caution.

Presentations that stand out. Beautifully.

With its powerful tools and dazzling effects, Keynote makes it easy to create stunning and memorable presentations, and comes included with most Apple devices. Use Apple Pencil on your iPad to create diagrams or illustrations that bring your slides to life. And with real‑time collaboration, your team can work together, whether they’re on Mac, iPad, iPhone or a PC.

See what’s new in Keynote

Present your story. Your way.

Keynote sets the stage for an impressive presentation. A simple, intuitive interface puts important tools front and centre, so everyone on your team can easily add beautiful charts, edit photos and incorporate cinematic effects. And Rehearse Mode lets you practise on the go, with the current or next slide, notes and clock — all in one view.

Start with a gorgeous layout.

Choose from over 40 eye-catching themes that instantly give your presentation a professional look. Or create your own slide designs, background images and page‑by‑page customisation.

Create next-level animations.

Add drama to your presentation with more than 100 cinematic transitions and effects. Make your words pop by adding textures, colour gradients and even photos — with just a tap. And animate objects along a path using Apple Pencil or your finger on your iPhone or iPad.

Make every slide spectacular.

Add subtle movement to your slides with dynamic backgrounds. Illustrate your point with over 700 Apple-designed shapes, or add photos, videos, music, image galleries and charts. Easily remove backgrounds from supported images and live videos or manually refine adjustments as needed. You can even use your iPhone to take a photo or scan a document, and Continuity Camera can send it straight to Keynote on your Mac.

Get the updates. Then get in touch.

Stay up to date when people join, edit or comment in collaborative presentations and easily get in touch with your team using Messages and FaceTime.

Get more done on iPad.

Quickly insert objects, find settings and get to your favourite tools with the customisable toolbar. And Stage Manager makes it easy to multitask across multiple presentations and apps at the same time. 1

Make backgrounds disappear.

Now you can more easily remove backgrounds from supported images — and even live videos — or adjust them to your liking.

Add live video feeds to any slide.

Appear in a window, right on your slides, with a picture-in-picture display during remote presentations. Or include a live feed of your iPhone or iPad screen to show off apps.

Get started with dynamic themes.

Start with one of three beautiful new animated themes, then customise it to set the tone for each slide with 18 adjustable background presets — from understated to highly visual, monochrome to colourful, calm to energetic.

Captivate your audience with dynamic backgrounds.

Make your presentation stand out by adding stunning colour and visual interest to your slides. Create motion on a title or closing slide for a bold statement, and keep viewers engaged with subtle movement throughout the presentation.

Present with your team. Seamlessly.

For slideshows with multiple presenters, you can now take turns controlling a single deck — from anywhere — on Mac, iPad and iPhone.

Play YouTube and Vimeo videos right in Keynote.

Embed a video from YouTube or Vimeo, then play them right in your presentations, without the need to download or open the video in a media player. 2

Present over video conference. Like a pro.

Play a slideshow in its own window so you can access other apps while you present. You can view your presenter notes, upcoming slides and navigation in a separate window as well.

Outline your presentation. Easier.

With outline view for iPhone and iPad, quickly jot down your thoughts, restructure ideas and move concepts from slide to slide. Then switch to slide view and start designing.

Present like never before. From anywhere.

With Keynote, presenting remotely can be just as seamless as presenting in person. Say goodbye to saying “Next slide, please” — now multiple people can present together, even remotely, with each person taking control of their section of the deck. Add a live video feed of yourself to any slide for a picture-in-picture experience. Or when presenting on your Mac, include a live feed of your iPhone or iPad screen to walk through your apps. You can even play a slideshow in its own window, so you can simultaneously access your notes and other apps.

Any presentation. Any device. Anytime.

You don’t work in one place on just one device. The same goes for Keynote. Work seamlessly across all your Apple devices. The slides you create using a Mac or iPad will look the same on an iPhone or web browser — and vice versa.

You can also work on presentations stored on iCloud or Box using a PC.

Start using Keynote at iCloud.com

Create and present together. Even when apart.

Work together in the same presentation, from across town or across the world. You can see your team’s edits as they make them — and they can watch as you make yours too. You can even get notifications when people join, edit or comment. When presenting as a team, you can also take turns controlling a single deck from anywhere.

Use Apple Pencil when inspiration strikes.

Add colour, illustrations and handwritten comments for more beautiful presentations with Apple Pencil on your iPad.

Plays well with Office.

Teaming up with someone who uses Microsoft PowerPoint? Keynote makes it a great working relationship. You can save Keynote presentations as PowerPoint files. Or import and edit PowerPoint presentations right in Keynote.

Due to recent expansions in US sanctions against Russia and Belarus as well as existing country-level sanctions in Iran, North Korea, Syria, Cuba, and the Crimea region (each a “sanctioned country”), Zapier will no longer be able to provide services in any sanctioned country starting September 12, 2024. These sanctions prohibit US companies from offering certain IT and enterprise software services in a sanctioned region.

Starting September 12, 2024, Zapier customers will no longer be able to access Zapier services from a sanctioned country. We understand this may be inconvenient and appreciate your understanding as we navigate these regulatory requirements.

How to Use a Mac With PowerPoint: A Step-by-Step Guide

Using a Mac with PowerPoint is simple. First, make sure you have PowerPoint installed on your Mac. You can find it at the App Store or through a Microsoft 365 subscription. Open PowerPoint, and you’ll be greeted with a range of templates to start your presentation. From here, you can add text, images, and animations to create an engaging slideshow. Once done, you can present directly from your Mac or save your presentation to share with others.

After you’ve completed your PowerPoint presentation on your Mac, you’ll have a professional and compelling visual aid to support your speech or lecture. You can also share it with others or export it into different formats such as PDF, video, or even a web page.

Introduction

Are you ready to impress your audience with a stunning presentation? If you’re a Mac user, fear not – using PowerPoint on your macOS is as smooth as on any Windows PC. Let’s be honest, presentations are a part of life: whether you’re a student, a professional, or just someone with a story to tell, at some point, you’re going to need to put some slides together. PowerPoint for Mac has all the tools you need to create a presentation that’s both visually captivating and content-rich.

Why is this important? Well, PowerPoint presentations are a staple in the professional world. They’re used for everything from business pitches to academic lectures. Knowing how to create an effective PowerPoint presentation on your Mac could be the difference between persuading your audience or leaving them unimpressed. And who is this relevant to? Everyone! Whether you’re a newbie to presentations or a seasoned speaker looking to refine your skills, this guide will help you master PowerPoint on your Mac.

Step-by-Step Tutorial: Using PowerPoint on a Mac

Before jumping in, let’s clarify what you’ll achieve by following these steps. By the end, you’ll be able to create, edit, and present a PowerPoint slideshow on your Mac.

Step 1: Install PowerPoint

Install PowerPoint on your Mac from the App Store or through a Microsoft 365 subscription.

After installing PowerPoint, you’ll need to sign in with your Microsoft account to activate the software, then you’ll be ready to start creating your presentation.

Step 2: Open PowerPoint

Open PowerPoint and choose a template or open a blank presentation.

PowerPoint offers a variety of templates to suit different presentation styles. If you choose to start with a blank slate, you’ll have complete creative freedom.

Step 3: Add Content

Add slides and content such as text, images, and shapes to your presentation.

Remember to keep your slides simple and not clutter them with too much content. Visual aids should support your speech, not replace it.

Step 4: Customize Your Slides

Customize your slides’ design with themes, colors, and animations.

This step is where you can get creative with your presentation’s look and feel. Just be sure not to go overboard with animations – they should enhance your presentation, not distract from it.

Step 5: Present Your Slideshow

Present your slideshow directly from your Mac or save it to share with others.

You can start your presentation by clicking the ‘Slide Show’ tab and then ‘Play from Start’. Make sure you practice your presentation beforehand to ensure everything runs smoothly.

It's impressive and convenient that all Macs come preinstalled with robust and well-integrated presentation software like Keynote. For most people, it means they do not need to purchase third-party software.

However, while Keynote works great with your Mac and other Apple products, it's often not enough when you want to come up with creative slideshow presentations.

Fortunately, you can explore several Keynote alternatives to find something better. In this guide, we have covered the five best Keynote alternatives to create better slideshow presentations.

1. Microsoft PowerPoint

PowerPoint for Mac

It has become almost customary for many Mac users to install Microsoft Office when setting up their Mac desktop or notebook. In their defense, Microsoft PowerPoint offers a better environment to build creative slideshow presentations for different purposes. More importantly, PPT files from PowerPoint also get broad support across popular platforms like Windows, Linux, Android, and iOS.

First, PowerPoint offers a richer and more up-to-date collection of templates to choose from. You can also download PPT templates from third-party sources. Second, compared to Keynote, PowerPoint offers more options for customizing the presentation. For instance, you can expect a more versatile collection of fonts, animations, transitions, etc.

We should also remember that PowerPoint uses a UI that most people are familiar with. So, if you use other Microsoft Office products, PowerPoint will be easy to manage than Keynote.

Canva for Mac

While Canva is not as old as Keynote or primary alternatives, it helps several times better when you want an eye-catching slideshow presentation. Canva is primarily a web-based designing tool, but its Mac app also does a decent job.

We don't think it's as customizable as PowerPoint, but Canva has many innovative features . You can, for instance, bring in modern design elements and stock photos in a single click. Similarly, you can use design assets from previous projects on Canva. You also have the option to export your presentation into various formats like PDF, PNG, and MP4.

Compared to Keynote, Canva offers a dynamic collection of purpose-oriented templates. So, you can choose between starting from scratch or using a rich template. In the long run, Canva lets you create striking presentations and saves time. While some Canva features are premium-only, the free version works for most people.

3. Prezi Present

Prezi for Mac

Prezi Present is another great option for creating conversational presentation slideshows. It's powered by significant design refreshes and interactive slides, which make everything look more attractive. As a result, it becomes easier to communicate complex concepts through slideshows. So, it is unsurprising that many educators and business professionals use Prezi for Mac.

Even though you can use the web-based app for the same experience, the macOS app of Prezi is pretty impressive, as it's easier to include content stored on your Mac. It is also a better option when you want to present the slideshow from your MacBook. However, despite how aesthetically pleasing Prezi slideshows are, the file formats are not widely compatible.

Nevertheless, you can convert an existing PowerPoint presentation into a Prezi presentation. We should also remind you that a premium subscription for this tool gives you access to a video creation and design suite.

Download : Prezi Present (Free, premium subscription available)

Focusky for Mac

Unlike the other Keynote alternatives we have covered till now, Focusky has a slightly different objective. It is designed to help you create HTML5 slideshow presentations that work great on the web. Most of its core features are aligned with helping you build innovative business presentations. Therefore, you can easily find common elements like flow charts, graphs, and diagrams.

First, you can choose one of the many presentation templates from Focusky, which updates the collection often. But, even if you start with a blank project, you can choose between standard outlines for business presentations. Then, once you start, you can use Focusky to insert almost everything into the presentation, including shapes, screen recordings, images, and documents.

Things become more impressive when you want to export or publish the presentation. For example, you can convert the presentation into HTML5 or create a Windows app, macOS app, PDF, or video.

Download : Focusky (Free, premium subscription available)

5. WPS Office

WPS Office on Mac

WPS Office is a competitor to Apple's iWork Suite and a popular alternative to Microsoft Office 365 . So, its presentation app is better than Keynote in many aspects.

More importantly, the presentation app from WPS Office works with popular formats, including Microsoft PPT and Google Slides . However, compared to Keynote or Slides, WPS Office offers a versatile collection of creative templates.

We also love that the presentations app uses a UI design similar to that of Microsoft Office. So, if you switched from Windows to macOS, you can retain your workflow. The collection of transitions, fonts, and effects is also impressive. So, you'll find it easy to create a lesson plan for your course, a pitching presentation at work, or something out of the box.

Unlike Keynote, WPS Office works well with other third-party apps and offers multiple export options. Therefore, it will be easier when you want to convert your presentation into a video or PDF file.

Download : WPS Office (Free, in-app purchases available)

Creating a Better Presentation Without Keynote

While each Keynote alternative on this list packs a unique set of features, you should understand that having a good presentation app is only one part of the story.

You should also employ effective communication methods and professional tips to make your slideshow presentation engaging.

Putting together your presentation can be design and content-heavy. Use the mobile versions for smaller edits and presenting the slides to an audience.

presentation apps - Visme logo

It has millions of design assets, including stock photography and video, animated vector icons, data visualization tools, hundreds of fonts, and preset color themes. Visme also offers a vast range of templates for presentations of any style; slideshow, video or interactive.

What sets Visme apart from other presentation apps and software is that it’s not just a presentation-making tool ; it’s a full-scale content authoring platform.

The AI presentation maker enables you to create stunning and professional-looking presentations with a text prompt. With the AI text generator , you can create drafts for your presentation. The tool is handy for proofreading and other content-related tasks.

Your Visme presentation editor has a wide variety of features for making many types of content, from classic static designs that you can share or print to interactive digital experiences that can be collaborated on, shared and tracked .

If you're looking for apps for interactive presentations, Visme is also your best bet.

Try the various interactivity options , like hyperlinked elements, video embed, audio upload and recording features.

2. Google Slides

presentation apps - Google-slides

Everyone has heard of Google, right? So it’s no surprise that Google Slides is one of the more popular presentation apps and PowerPoint alternatives available.

But popular does not always mean best. While the service is free to any Google account holder, its slide layouts are basic at best and its design capabilities are extremely limited.

presentation apps - Google Slides home page

However, if you need a quick and to-the-point presentation, Google Slides can be a great option since it’s free and has next to no learning curve. If you’ve used PowerPoint, you know how to use Google Slides.

  • Free for anyone with a Google account.
  • Easy to use for creating a basic presentation.
  • Users can collaborate in real time and make comments and edits throughout the slides.
  • Integrate with all Google workspaces, including Google Meet.
  • Limited design capabilities.
  • Essentially a PowerPoint clone.

presentation apps - prezi

Another popular presentation app is Prezi. The main feature that Prezi is known for is allowing its users to easily create non-linear presentations.

This type of presentation can be highly engaging for your audience because instead of side-to-side transitions, you can create a pan and zoom effect each time you switch over to another slide.

presentation app - Prezi homepage

While this type of presentation can be a fun change of pace for your audience, Prezi’s slide design options are not very visually appealing, and non-linear presentations can still be created in many other presentation makers by linking slides.

Prezi templates are also an excellent starting point for creating stunning presentations.

  • Can create engaging and non-linear presentations.
  • Embed interactive elements like video and audio into your presentations.
  • Can only create non-linear presentations, which can actually cause motion sickness in some viewers.
  • Non-linear presentations can also be created in other presentation software, making the need for Prezi obsolete.

presentation apps - Canva

Canva is a well-known cloud-based graphic design software , but it's not too popular for presentations. While it still has the “capabilities” for presentation design, it's main focus is on social media graphics.

As a creative presentation app, it offers a few visually appealing slide templates and you can create designs in the correct presentation dimensions.

presentation app - Canva homepage

There are a few static chart options and Canva also has tons of graphic elements to choose from, such as photos, shapes and icons, so you can still create static presentations in their software.

  • Beautiful premade presentation templates to choose from.
  • Graphic elements like photos, shapes and icons to spice up your design.
  • No content blocks or slide library available to save larger pieces of content and reuse later.

5. Venngage

presentation apps - venngage

Venngage is first and foremost an infographic maker.

Similarly to Canva, they have added basic capabilities for creating presentations , but their design dashboard isn’t nearly as robust as some other presentation apps and software on this list.

While there are a number of presentation templates available for each of their plans, Venngage also doesn’t offer any type of animation or transition features for moving from slide to slide.

presentation app - Venngage homepage

When it comes to creating a presentation, Venngage is in the same boat as Canva. Both certainly can be used to create a presentation, but they aren’t ideal, and they don’t offer as many features as a presentation app meant for building slideshows.

  • Well-designed templates to get you started on your presentation design.
  • Icons and photos to choose from for use in your slideshow.
  • Not created with presentations in mind, so while it’s possible to create one, it’s not ideal.

6. Beautiful.ai

The Beautiful AI logo against a white background

Beautiful.ai is a presentation maker that was created to focus on presentation design, like Visme. But while it’s meant for creating presentations, it doesn’t offer full-range design capabilities.

Instead, you’re given eight different themes with about 60 slide layouts to choose from that keep elements snapped into place, regardless of how you might want to customize your slides.

presentation app - Beautiful.ai

While this software is a great way to “stay in the lines,” per se, with your presentation design, it doesn’t allow you to design your presentation the way you want. If you’re trying to create a slide that falls outside of their parameters, you’re stuck.

  • Visually appealing templates and slide layouts to choose from in your presentation.
  • Easy to use drag-and-drop editor that allows you to quickly slide your points around on your slide to re-order them.
  • Don’t have full-range design capabilities on your slide. You’re stuck only designing in the areas the software lets you design in.
  • No free plans. Basic plan starts at $12 a month.

7. Slidebean

presentation apps - slidebean

Slidebean advertises itself as an AI-powered presentation maker. It allows users to separate the content and design of its slides, inputting content in one section and adjusting the slide design in a separate area.

When creating a presentation in Slidebean, once you add your content into the text boxes, you can switch over to the design section and have their AI automatically assemble your content pieces around the page in a way that makes sense.

presentation app - Slidebean

You’re also able to refresh different AI designs until you find one that you like. Although this can be helpful for those who don’t really want to worry about their design, it is extremely limited, and they don’t have a lot of templates to choose from.

As one of the best business presentation apps, their templates also focus on startups and entrepreneurs , so if your presentation doesn’t have that focus, your selection is limited.

  • No need to worry about design at all.
  • It’s a comprehensive pitching tool for entrepreneurs, not just a presentation maker.
  • Doesn’t give you full range of design capabilities.
  • Has limited templates.

8. Infogram

presentation apps - infogram

Infogram is another cloud-based graphic design software that tries to do everything, including presentations, but really wasn’t built for that specific purpose.

There are less than 50 available premade templates and they aren’t very well designed. Redeeming qualities include the fact that animation and transition features are available, as well as data visualization tools .

presentation app - Infogram

While there are icons and photos to choose from, most of them are premium and not available for use in the free plan.

  • Animation and transitions available for your slideshows.
  • Charts and graphs to add into your slides.
  • Limited presentation templates available.
  • Many graphic elements are premium only.

9. Zoho Show

Presentation apps - Zoho Show logo

Looking for good presentation editing apps? Zoho Show is one you should take a look at.

Zoho Show is a presentation-making app from the Zoho family of Work and Business apps. What once was a simple presentation maker is now a full-fledged collaboration tool for making presentations with impact. Zoho presentations can be static or animated; the level of interactivity is up to you.

Presentation apps - Zoho Show home page

Create and share Show presentations on any Mac or PC plus device using iOS and Android operating systems. Zoho Show also has many integrations with other apps for better productivity. The minimalistic UI is a positive addition to the editor.

Use on any device. Mac, PC, iOS, Android. Large selection of premade templates for every industry. Available to create both online and offline. Lots of integrations.

It makes more sense to use the Zoho suite than Show on its own. You can’t buy just Show; subscriptions are for groups of apps. Not enough data visualization features.

10. Haiku Deck

presentation apps - Haiku

Haiku Deck is a web and mobile-based app that allows you to create and edit presentations. It works well for making some on-the-go edits to a presentation you’ve previously created.

Presentation apps - Haiku Deck home page

You can even download the app onto your smartphone or tablet to create full presentation decks straight from your mobile device. It also syncs presentations between your computer and phone apps, making it easy to create and edit in different areas.

The biggest caveat is that its presentation template design is outdated and not very pretty.

  • Syncs between your desktop and mobile apps, allowing you to create and edit in different areas.
  • Presentation templates are not professionally designed.
  • Design dashboard is outdated.

11. Keynote

presentation apps - keynote

Keynote is another presentation editing app that offers both desktop and mobile versions. It’s exclusively available for iOS smartphones, tablets and computers as it’s the Apple version of PowerPoint.

You can create presentations right on your mobile device and get them ready to present on your computer, which can be handy.

Presentation apps - Keynote home page

You can download the app from the Apple App Store for $9.99. It does come on most Macs and Macbooks automatically, but you’ll have to purchase it for your smartphone or tablet.

  • Allows you to create and edit presentations on both your mobile device and computer.
  • Keynote is designed for Mac. To use it on PC, you need a workaround.
  • Similar to PowerPoint, so it doesn’t really focus on the design of your presentation, just gives you the ability to create one.

12. Flowvella

presentation apps - Flowvella

Flowvella is a downloadable desktop and mobile app that allows you to create interactive presentations wherever and whenever you need to. While it’s a fast and efficient app, it lacks some of the features any good presentation needs.

Since it’s a downloadable app, users are able to work on their presentations without WiFi.

It creates an online link for you to present your slideshow from any device, and offers analytics for you to see who has viewed your presentation.

  • Has offline editing capabilities.
  • Has analytics for you to view presentation performance.
  • Used by museums for interactive displays.
  • Must have space on your phone or computer to download the app.
  • Simple technology with outdated features.

Presentation apps - Pitch logo

The app has integrations with other platforms like Chart Mogul and Brandfetch. Presentations on pro plans have analytics features and better image and video capabilities.

  • Lots of beautiful templates to choose from.
  • Pricing is affordable

Presentations are all you can create on Pitch.

14. Showpad

Presentation apps - Showpad logo

Showpad is another app that works well for sales teams. It allows users to put together various types of content and share it with a tablet user for them to scroll through and annotate.

This can be very useful for sales reps that are on the go with meetings and appointments , so they can easily share their screens with potential customers and walk them through the process.

Presentation apps - Showpad home page

The app is available on both Android and Apple devices, so there aren’t limitations to which smartphones and tablets will have access.

  • Can share and annotate various types of content on the go.
  • Caters to sales teams, so it isn’t an all-in-one presentation maker.

15. SlideShare

Presentation apps - Slideshare logo

LinkedIn’s SlideShare app is a great way to share and view presentation content on the go. You can create your presentation in any online software, like Visme , export it and upload it onto SlideShare.

You can then use the mobile app to share your presentation and help get the word out. You can also view other presentations and learn more about a certain topic.

Presentation apps - Slideshare home page

There are millions of professional presentations that have been published on SlideShare, so it’s a great community of slideshows to watch and save.

  • Great for viewing and sharing your presentations.
  • Provides an embed code for sharing on your website.
  • There are millions of presentations published on the platform, so you’ll have to do a lot of self-promoting to get yours seen.

presentation apps - Vyond logo

If you’re looking for apps for online presentation but with advanced video capabilities, here’s a great pick.

Vyond is a video presentation app with solutions for all industries and education. If you’re looking for a simple presentation, Vyond isn’t for you. This app creates engaging video presentations with talking characters and moving parts. Each slide is an animated scene, and they all come together as a group to make an animated video.

presentation apps - Vyond home page

Choose characters, scene backgrounds and props from a large library of design assets. Use their text to speech feature to add easy voiceovers and narrations. Collaborate with your team to create video presentations for sales, training, pitching and more.

  • Making animated presentation videos is easy.
  • The features and editing controls don’t have a high learning curve.
  • Monthly fees are high
  • You can’t create anything else apart from video presentations.

17. Presentation Timer

presentation apps - timer pro

Presentation Timer can be helpful both during your prep time and actual presentation time. This app lets you set a timer for how long your presentation will be and it will change the screen color based on how much speaking time you have left.

Using an app like this can be very helpful when you’re rehearsing your content so that you don’t go over on time, and you know which anecdotes you can fit in.

Just make sure when you’re giving your actual presentation, you can see your phone screen so you’ll know when you’re running out of time.

  • Gives you a heads up when you’re getting close to the end of your speaking time.
  • You have to be within eyeshot of your phone, so you won’t be able to do much moving around the stage or speaking area.

Looking for the best presentation software for your Mac?

(Pro tip: It’s not Keynote .)

In this quick guide, we’ll show you everything you should consider when making your choice — plus why ProPresenter is the presentation software of choice for pro Mac users.

Special Considerations for Mac Users and All-Mac AV Setups

There are some things you need to know about running Macs in a professional AV environment if you’re already solidly in the Mac camp — either as a single user or as the manager of an all-Mac AV setup.

Some Presentation Tools Aren’t Uniform

Some of the presentation apps out there don’t offer equal experiences on Mac and PC. Microsoft PowerPoint, part of the Microsoft Office and Microsoft 365 suites, exists for both operating systems, but the versions are a bit different. The Mac version can do some things the PC version can’t, and the PC version has quite a lot of functionality that doesn’t exist on the Mac side.

If you’re looking specifically for worship-related software , the landscape is even worse, as a number of apps are PC-only.

This doesn’t affect cloud-based presentation tools, like Google Slides and Canva, which run directly in a web browser and offer a platform-agnostic experience. And several pro-grade apps, including ProPresenter 7, are built with true cross-platform architecture.

The best option if you’re operating a Mac-only setup is to choose a true cross-platform solution like ProPresenter that works equally well on Mac and Windows machines.

What About Keynote?

Many Mac users love Keynote because its desktop app makes it easy to create attractive presentations. It also comes free with Mac computers, and free presentation software is hard to argue with.

Keynote is good enough for certain contexts, like basic office presentations or even polished sales decks. But it has several limitations that could trip you up.

First is compatibility: there’s no PC or Android app for Keynote, and exporting Keynote slides into PowerPoint isn’t a great idea.

The second is robustness. Keynote is designed to be lightweight and pretty, but isn’t robust enough for more complex setups. If you need any of the key features we cover in the next sections, Keynote isn’t right for you.

Features to Look For in Presentation Software for Mac

As you look for the right Mac presentation software for your environment, these are some of the features you might want to check for. Depending on what you need your software to do, some of these advanced features could be mission-critical for you.

Professional Caliber Slide Editor

application mac presentation

Most people using presentation software are primarily using it to produce slides. They might contain images and videos alongside text, maybe audio, and they’re usually used to reinforce a live presentation.

So the slide editor is the first place to check when evaluating presentation software.

Does it give you the ability to quickly and easily drag and drop content into place? Is the interface intuitive and easy to learn? Can it handle all types of media inputs? Do you have granular control over colors, gradients, layers, fonts, and how all slide elements interact with each other?

Each solution’s slide editor will have unique elements. Look for a solution that’s powerful yet easy to learn and use.

Remote Control

application mac presentation

Most office-oriented presentation apps will allow you to control a presentation from your device using a presenter view of some sort. But larger venues like auditoriums, conference halls, and so forth don’t tend to work this way.

Look for presentation tools that offer their own remote control apps, which allow users to control presentations from their smartphones. Some even use local Wi-Fi connections so users don’t have to rely on broader internet connectivity.

Support for Multiple Displays

application mac presentation

If you’re giving a presentation in a small conference room or over Zoom, a single output is all you need. But if you need to do anything more, like presenting to the in-person audience, and online, then your average office app isn’t going to cut it.

Look for a solution that supports multiple displays — including custom feeds of content to various displays and display types. (ProPresenter does this easily. Most of the competition can’t.)

Video and Streaming Support

screenshot of ProPresenter worship software

Last, consider what your video and streaming needs look like. The way people use presentation software with video varies greatly:

  • Embedding video clips into slide decks.
  • Using looped background videos.
  • Pulling live video from a Zoom meeting into a presentation.
  • Pulling presentation content into an overlay for streaming or broadcast.

These are just a few examples. Whatever you want or need to do with video, be sure your chosen presentation app can deliver.

ProPresenter is the best presentation software , especially when it involves video. From wide-ranging support for video clips to serving as your single app for streaming or broadcast video output, ProPresenter can do what most others can’t.

Create a presentation in Keynote on Mac

To create a new presentation, you first choose a theme to use as a starting point. Themes use coordinated fonts and colors for a unified look and often include placeholders that you can replace with your own content.

Create a presentation from a theme

To open Keynote, click the Keynote icon in the Dock, Launchpad, or the Applications folder.

If the theme chooser (shown below) doesn’t appear, click New Document in the bottom-left corner of the dialog. You can also choose File > New (from the File menu at the top of your screen).

The theme chooser. A sidebar on the left lists theme categories you can click to filter options. On the right are thumbnails of predesigned themes, arranged in rows by category.

Note: If you’d like the ability to format table and chart data using the conventions of another language, choose the language in the bottom-left corner before choosing a theme. See Format a presentation for another language .

In the theme chooser, browse the themes by category, then double-click the one that looks closest to what you want to create. To narrow the choices, click a category along the sidebar on the left.

Some themes aren’t downloaded to your computer until you choose them or open a presentation that uses one. If your connection is slow or you’re offline when this happens, placeholder images and slide backgrounds in the presentation may appear at a lower resolution until you’re online again or the theme finishes downloading.

application mac presentation

Each slide layout offers a different arrangement of text and images that you use as a starting point for your content.

To add your own content to the presentation, do any of the following:

the Add Slide button

Add text: Double-click placeholder text and type your own.

the Replace Image button

Choose File > Save, enter a name, choose a location, then click Save.

Keynote automatically saves your changes as you work, so you don’t need to worry about saving your presentation manually. However, it’s a good idea to rename your presentation so you can easily find it the next time you want to work on it. You can change the name of the presentation or change where it’s saved at any time.

If iCloud Drive is set up on your Mac, Keynote saves the presentation to iCloud Drive by default.

the Play button

To end the presentation, press the Esc (Escape) key. For more ways to show a presentation, see Play a presentation on your Mac .

To close the presentation, click the red close button in the top-left corner of the window.

Select a default theme for new presentations

You can set Keynote to always open a new presentation in a particular theme instead of from the theme chooser.

Choose Keynote > Settings (from the Keynote menu at the top of your screen).

Click General at the top of the window, then select “Use theme” in the For New Presentations controls.

The name that appears after “Use theme” is the currently selected theme.

Click the Change Theme button, select a theme, then click Choose.

To close the window, click the red close button in the upper-left corner.

After you change this setting, you can still open a new presentation with a different theme. Hold down the Option key, then choose File > New from Theme Chooser (from the File menu at the top of your screen).

Ratings and Reviews

Really close to perfect, just needs more color buttons and keystroke eraser.

This app is the closest answer I've gotten to my perfect annotator prayers. It's clear that the developer has thought this app through carefully and worked hard on it. It's so incredibly functional, fast, and easily accesible. The hotkeys, in particular, are very well thought out and puts other apps to shame. Please, please consider adding the below 2 items to get this app to top-tier level. I'll gladly rate up to 5 stars. 1. Add more color buttons to the tool bar. I use 4 colors on a daily basis and this is sorely needed. 5 would be even better. If toolbar size is a concern, perhaps make it an option to display 3, 4, or 5 color selections at a time. 2. Keystroke eraser with eraser size option (like the [ ] function) is needed so that can erase selected items only.

Really nice screen drawing app; just missing one thing for me

The only thing I find a bit awkward about this app is the Annotate in Interactive Mode key. What I need from this feature is for the key to work like a toggle key, and it would be really nice to be able to bind this key to something else. Currently, the options are fn (which behaves as a tap-and-hold kind of toggle) and caps (which behaves as what I want, a tap toggle). The problem with using caps as the tap toggle is that all my text boxes start showing the capslock is on, and in some cases I get into a state where capslock is stuck on when not annotating.

Pretty good - couple recommendations

Overall, decent app, and am happy I purchased it. With that being said, here's a couple recommendations for the developer to make this a 5-star application: 1. Add the ability to erase under cursor (as opposed to only being able to clear the entire screen or edit undo currently). There are manu scenarios where I want to erase something written down several minutes ago as part of problem solving. 2. When using "Interactive Mode", allow us to configure in the preferences whether we want to "hold" the button down as it is today, or instead use said button as a "toggle" to flip between so that we don't need to hold down the button for the duration. 3. Add thin, medium, thick (customizable) to the toolbar to allow for quick switching between thicknesses (I frequently need to switch between the thinnest for regular writing, and a super fat thickness when using the highlighter mode).

Developer Response ,

Thanks for such a detailed review. I will definitely work on them. However, just fyi, you can change thickness easily by pressing [ and ] keys. Have you tried it? Best, Ram

Apple TV app adds separate Watchlist in iOS 18.1 beta

Avatar for Benjamin Mayo

Apple appears to be working on a significant change on how users can organize their watch queue in the Apple TV app. In iOS 18.1 the long-standing Up Next queue has been renamed to ‘Continue Watching’, and a new separate Watchlist section can be found on the Home tab.

The Watchlist only includes TV shows and movies that the user has explicitly added to watch later. This responsibility was previously handled by Up Next, which also mixed in items that the user was currently in the midst of watching.

In its current beta state, the new feature does not seem to be fully implemented. For one, while Up Next has been renamed to Continue Watching, its functionality is the same as previous versions. It contains the same items, including recently added items that are now also found in the Watchlist.

You can imagine that this may change in future betas. Similarly, the Watchlist is currently found only on the Home tab and requires scrolling several screenfuls worth of distance downwards. When the feature is finished, we would expect it be located in a more prominent position (and perhaps also linked from the Library tab).

Assuming these changes happen before it ships to the public, it would help simplify the way the TV app works, bringing it closer to the behavior of every other popular streaming service app, which cleanly delineate the list of content the user has added to watch in the future, and the list of content currently in progress of being watched by the user.

The old Apple TV app concept of Up Next — using a single list that combined watch queue and currently watching content items — was quite confusing for users coming to the TV app for the first time.
