Also, a disciplined individual can control and handle the situation of living in a sophisticated way than those who do not. Besides, if you have a plan and you want to implement it in your life. Then you need discipline. It makes things easy for you to handle. It ultimately brings success to your life.

If we talk about the types of discipline, there are two types. The first type is induced discipline and the second one is self-discipline. Speech on Importance of Discipline

Discipline is like a magic key that opens doors to success. It helps you stay focused, manage your time, and reach your goals. Without it, life can become a jumbled mess.

Think about a well-oiled machine. That’s what your life can be with discipline. It’s not about harsh rules, but about creating a smooth path towards your dreams.

1-minute Speech on Importance of Discipline

Good morning everyone!

Today, I would like to talk about an essential key to success that we sometimes overlook – Discipline. It is the bridge between our goals and our achievements. It is the glue that binds inspiration with achievement, dreams with reality, and capabilities with results.

Discipline is the habit of acting according to certain rules. It ensures that we respond to life in ways that prioritize our highest values and goals. One might have all the resources, ideas, and plans, but without discipline, it is almost impossible to bring any of them to life.

In school, discipline helps us acquire knowledge and grow as individuals. It motivates us to stay focused on our studies, complete assignments on time, and interact respectfully with teachers and classmates. In the workplace, discipline is equally important. It helps us meet deadlines, build a career, and maintain a healthy work-life balance.

To conclude, discipline is a critical component of success. It fuels our motivation and keeps us on the right pathway. It is a quality that helps us lead our lives in a productive, meaningful, and fulfilling way. So, let’s embrace discipline, let it guide our actions, and watch how it brings us closer to our dreams.

2-minute Speech on Importance of Discipline

Good morning everyone, I am here today to talk about a topic that is fundamental to our success in both personal and professional life. The topic for today’s discussion is ‘Importance of Discipline’.

In our personal life, discipline plays a crucial role in shaping our character and attitude towards life. It curbs our impulses and reminds us to stay grounded. It helps us make the right decisions even when faced with adversity. It is discipline that helps us stick to our routines, to exercise regularly, eat healthily, wake up early, and live an organized life.

Moreover, discipline is not just about leading a well-structured life, it’s about self-control. It’s about being able to control our desires, our actions, and our reactions. A disciplined person doesn’t react impulsively; instead, he or she evaluates the situation and then responds in the best possible manner.

In the professional domain, discipline is equally, if not more, important. It is the backbone of any organization. It helps us to deliver our work on time, meet deadlines, abide by the rules, and maintain the decorum of the workplace. In the corporate world, discipline differentiates a leader from a follower. It is what drives innovation and growth.

Discipline is not just for personal benefit, it’s also for the good of society. A disciplined society is a harmonious society. When people abide by rules and regulations, it creates an environment conducive to growth and prosperity.

In conclusion, discipline is not a restriction but a tool for liberation. It frees us from the shackles of unproductive habits and impulsive behaviors. It’s the key to unlock the door to success and happiness. It is not something that restricts us, rather it is something that guides us towards a productive path, helping us make the most of our lives.

Sample Speech on Discipline

Good morning/afternoon respected professors and my fellow friends. Today I’ll be vocalizing on the very common, yet essential topic of Discipline. One of the greatest philosophers- Aristotle said, “Through self-discipline comes freedom.”

It makes people wonder how an act which is often used to draw boundaries, gives humans freedom. Despite being perceived as a penalizing treatment, discipline is the name of the game in any field for people of any age. Everything in nature has a definite cycle at a given time. The sun rises at dawn and sets at dusk. Any action by nature that takes the place bar of their specific times is deemed as odd. In the same manner, humans must work according to their circadian rhythm and work on a specific schedule. Does a shabby and disorderly person ever come off as appealing?

Discipline can be developed by various means. Induced discipline means developing the skill by extrinsic factors like watching or following the disciplined nature of your parents, teachers, or an ideal model.  Self-discipline comes from the intrinsic will to structure your days and work in an orderly manner. Both methods require a high level of patience and self-control. If we pick up any successful and celebrated individual, we’ll notice the amount of discipline they follow in their lives. From abstaining from procrastination to making productive use of your free time; your skill reflects greatly on your future self. However, being disciplined doesn’t mean you miss out on great gatherings and parties. Prioritize your work and time yourself for each task. Once you practice discipline, you’ll be surprised at how much free time you have left in the end. The process and methods of discipline can be different for each individual. One can never understand the external factors in anyone’s lives unless we’ve lived in their shoes.

A disciplined person isn’t formed overnight. It requires a considerable amount of effort and motivation to become a better person than you were yesterday. You can start by simply writing what you do each day and then timing each task. Make a realistic plan that you believe will work for you. Reward yourself often for positive reinforcement and develop intrinsic motivation. Be consistent in your practice. There will surely come days where we all feel like skipping every task which is alright. But, make sure you keep a watch and don’t let momentary fatigue ruin your schedule. Read and educate yourself about great leaders and global personalities that have achieved greatness due to this simple skill. Practice and complete the tasks on the given time, and soon you will notice how your efforts brightly change into habits.

Being disciplined means having a sense of control of your consciousness and desires. It helps you become more concentrated on your ambitions. These skills can help you polish your attitudes and be calmer and composed in difficult or risky situations. It also helps you think clearer and be better and efficient decision-makers. Uncertain events can cause deeper levels of stress and cognitive load. Having a disciplined lifestyle can also benefit you psychologically by reducing anxiety and stress. To conclude, let’s all make our minds to follow this valuable skill and build successful futures for ourselves. Thank you for lending me your time and ears.

Speech on Self Discipline and Its Importance for Students in English

Self-Discipline, contrary to popular belief, is not a severe or limited behaviour or a restrictive lifestyle. In its most basic form, Self-Discipline is the ability to do what needs to be done even when you don't want to. Self-Discipline is required at all times, whether you are happy or sad. It's just that when you're feeling good, happy, and motivated, you don't have to work as hard to maintain your self-control.

In today's fast-paced world, Self-Discipline is crucial for success. With rising distractions and reducing attention spans, it is very easy to be left behind in a world that operates at a neck-breaking pace. Self-Discipline forms a routine that manages time and resources efficiently. This leads to conservation of energy and free time needed to unwind in your busy lifestyles.

Without discipline in your life, you can be pushed to the brink that might leave you exhausted, helpless, and stressed. This is completely avoidable by taking a few small steps on a regular basis towards an organized lifestyle. Self-Discipline helps you achieve that and all your other goals in life. You must cultivate the habit to feel responsible for all your actions. With discipline in your lifestyle, you are taking charge of your decisions and empowering yourself with more confidence.

For students in school and students about to enter their college life, Self-Discipline is key. Currently, the students are in a protected environment nurtured by the care of parents and the guidance of teachers. But the world waiting for students outside the schools and colleges, tests everyone's mental and physical stamina, even grown-ups of all ages. Hence, Vedantu has provided both long and short ‘Self-Discipline and its importance’ speech for students of Class 1 to 12.

Long and Short Self-Discipline and its Importance Speech

Today, I am here to deliver a speech on Self-Discipline and its importance. Self-Discipline is one of the most important steps in becoming a better person.  Many people believe that Self-Discipline is only important for those who want to pursue a career in academia and become doctors or scientists, but this is not true.

Self-Discipline is important for everyone. If you are creative and want to be a singer, dancer, actor, or painter, or if you want to go into any field, you must be Self-Disciplined. Self-Discipline is essential for both those at home and those at work.

Our mother gets up early in the morning and prepares breakfast for us, as well as packs our lunch, bags, bottles, and so on. When we get home, she feeds us, cleans our uniforms, and prepares them; she also assists us with our homework and prepares our dinner. She is able to accomplish all of this because she is also Self-Disciplined. Indeed, it teaches us to love and care for both ourselves and others.

Self-Discipline, on the other hand, is important for everyone and at every stage of life; it can be learned at an early age. Because the young mind is fresh and eager to learn, anything taught at this age becomes a habit for people later on.

Many children, on the other hand, dislike being given instructions because they believe they are being forced to do so.

As a result, parents and teachers must exercise extreme caution when instilling the habit of Self-Discipline in children. They should be taught the benefits and significance of Self-Discipline in someone's life through examples.

Children and young adults are drawn to actors, singers, players, and so on. Instructors can use examples of famous figures, players, actors, dancers, and so on to persuade students that their dream of becoming famous requires rigorous training and practice. And even when they become popular, they maintain their Self-Discipline and focus.

Students who want to pursue sports as a career must be Self-Disciplined because only then will they be able to succeed.

Some very common expectations from such students include waking up early, exercising regularly, eating healthy and on time, drinking enough milk and juice, drinking water, and so on. These practices are impossible to achieve if no one is Self-Disciplined in life.

Self-Discipline is also important because it allows people to control their emotions and become more practical in life because such people are more centered in life.

It is also significant in life because it provides individuals with the proper approach and attitude toward life and aids in the fulfillment of someone's decision through thick and thin. Self-Disciplined people do not have mental fluctuations, and they achieve their goals in a long time.

Self-Discipline essentially helps to strengthen your inner strength, eliminates weakness, laziness, procrastination, and addictions, and instead helps you stay fit, timed, and energetic.

Everyone needs the Self-Discipline to lead a happy, stress-free life.

Short Speech on Self-Discipline and its Importance

Today, I am here to deliver a short speech on Self-Discipline and its importance. The ability to control one's own behavior, habits, and etiquette is referred to as Self-Discipline. It is significant in someone's life because it assists in overcoming weaknesses and living a useful life.

Self-Discipline is required to help you live a successful and fruitful life. Discipline can be imposed from without, whereas Self-Discipline is the determination to remain disciplined. Discipline, no matter how difficult it may appear, is an important part of our lives because it is required at any age.

Discipline is not only imposed on children; being an adult is also important for being Self-Disciplined; whether it is at home, the office, the playground, the gym, or anywhere else for that matter, it teaches us to respect the times and times of our time. Self-Discipline is also necessary for living a healthy life because we must eat and drink on time.

When children are young, they are expected to explain everything, such as brushing, bathing, hand washing, eating, doing homework, and so on. However, as they grow older, they begin to do all of these things on their own, which is referred to as Self-Discipline. Discipline aids in distinguishing between what is right and wrong and instills in people a sense of responsibility.

Self-Discipline comes naturally to some people. And with a little effort, some people can do it. The effort is worthwhile because it improves people's lives. It simply means exercising self-control. A person who maintains control is able to control his or her actions and reactions.

Self-Discipline is practiced by some of the world's most powerful people. They claim that one of the main reasons they have attained high status is due to Self-Discipline. They didn't start out high, but they made the most of what they had and rose through the ranks.

Failure, defeat, ruined relationships, health issues, obesity, and thus unhappiness can all result from a lack of Self-Discipline. Self-Discipline will motivate you to select and then commit to the thoughts, actions, and attitudes that contribute to success and progress. It will also provide you with the ability and inner strength to overcome life's addictions, laziness, and procrastination, which are major roadblocks in one's life.

10 Lines on Self-Discipline and its Importance Speech

Discipline means living life with proper rules and regulations.

It includes rules, regulations, manners, and etiquettes that shape our lives.

Discipline in life aids in the improvement of our habits and personalities.

Discipline guides us to follow the right principles and achieve success in our lives.

It is also believed that in order to be a good citizen of the country, one must live a disciplined life.

It promotes self-esteem and self-control in our lives.

Getting up early, exercising, eating healthy foods, and avoiding bad habits are all aspects of living a disciplined life.

Eating habits that are disciplined also help us to stay fit and healthy.

The principle is to respect others and to be obedient.

The first type of discipline is "Induced Discipline," which we learn from other people's indiscipline. The second is “Self-Discipline,” which is generated in our own minds and assists us in controlling our behavior.

We can conclude that discipline is an essential part of everyone's life. To be a good and ideal citizen, as well as a good human being, we must cultivate discipline in our lives. Self-Discipline may be difficult to achieve, but it is critical for leading a healthy personal and professional life. A Self-Disciplined person makes the best use of his or her time. As a result, he can accomplish more and do more work than someone who is not Self-Disciplined.

In times of social media taking over the lives of students as well as adults, Self-Discipline is the need of the hour. Mindless scrolling on Instagram, YouTube and Facebook has reduced the student's attention span drastically.

Reduction in attention span leads to more difficulty in focusing on due tasks. Performance goes down due to the fact that students are getting easily distracted. It's becoming more difficult to finish studying and working in one go without feeling the urge to look at a phone screen.

Therefore, Self-Discipline acts as a friend in need and a systematic push to help students keep distractions, boredom, and laziness at bay. It instills commitment in the students' minds to remain concentrated on their goal until they achieve it. This builds a sense of self-validation of emerging victorious in their daily battles.

Overcoming your demons like lethargy, distorted focus and mood swings with Self-Discipline in this age of social media is a rewarding feeling. It is vital to multitask easily without feeling burnt out, finish work before the deadlines and enjoy free time with loved ones.

Self-Discipline builds character that helps lead a well-balanced, rejuvenating lifestyle.

FAQs on Speech on Self Discipline and Its Importance

1. Do you need the Self-Discipline to do well in creative careers?

Most people with successful careers in creative fields were not born artists. In fact, many artists lead a very Self-Disciplined life from a very young age. Crafting one’s art form, mastering the craft and honing his or her skills with changing trends requires regular practice.

Without Self-Discipline, the dedication required to practice daily cannot be attained.

2. How to Develop Self-Discipline in life?

The following are a starter towards becoming Self-Disciplined:

Be self-aware to form a plan that uses your strengths to overcome your weaknesses.

Avoid distractions at any cost with willpower and by rewarding yourself if you are able to resist temptations.

Prioritize your goals and channel all your thoughts, energies and actions towards accomplishing them.

Get a trusted guardian, mentor or even friend involved in your growth process who can motivate you.

Use realistic targets, efficient deadlines, To-Do lists and well-planned schedules to achieve tasks.

3. How to get Self-Disciplined to fight social media addiction?

The following ways are instrumental to curb social media addiction with Self-Discipline and willpower:

Develop an ‘out sight, out of mind’ thought process by keeping your phone away

Turn off the notifications to prevent getting distracted by the beeping sounds

Keep aside multiple hours of your day for ‘Digital Detox’

Download apps that restrict access to social media if the daily screen time is crossed

Mark your work table or study room as a ‘No Phone Zone’

4. Is maintaining Self-Discipline tough?

Many people wrongly believe Self-Discipline to be tough to maintain. This mindset is deceiving. It’s not tough to be Self-Disciplined in the long run. It’s tough to not favor short-term gains over long-term gains.

This is because one tends to feel that it’s tiring and unfair that the present self is working hard whereas the future self is gaining the benefits. This isn’t true. One must realize that long-term benefits are more important than short-lived gains.

5. Can one stop being Self-Disciplined after becoming successful?

Self-Discipline is not just the key to achieving success, but also the key to preventing a downfall after success. It is imperative to continue to be disciplined even after reaching the peak as relieved nerves may lead to a laid-back attitude. This can undo years of hard work, patience, and perseverance. Therefore, Self-Discipline not only helps prevent failure but also grows manifolds to even more fulfilling forms of success.

Teaching oneself to behave consistently and under control is a key component of self-discipline.

Discipline is an important quality in a man or women that is helpful for us to reach our goals and to find success in life.

Discipline makes us more focused and organized. Students who follow disciplin always got higher grades in the class.

Our country defence forces are able to defend our country just due to a standards set of rules and policy.

Discipline helps us to focus on our goals and to overcome distractions of surrounding environment, which can frequently prevent us from achieving our goals.

By keeping our promise and achieving our goals, we are able to demonstrate to ourselves that we are able and reliable. This boosts our confidence and sense of worth.

At last, I want to conclude my speech with this last statement that “Without discipline you can’t  your desired success.

5 Minutes Speech on Discipline

Good evening to all. I want to talk to you today about the value of discipline.

Our lives are not complete without discipline, which aids us in achieving both personal and professional objectives. It enables us to exercise control over our behaviour and arrive at wiser conclusions. Without discipline, it is challenging to complete anything significant because we lack the drive and concentration required to complete tasks.

Being disciplined has a lot of advantages. One benefit is that it enables us to live a more ordered and organised existence. It supports effective time management and work prioritisation, which boosts output and efficiency. Having discipline in our life also enables us to make better decisions regarding our relationships, diet, and exercise.

Discipline, though, is more than just abiding by the law; it’s also about exercising restraint and respect for oneself. It entails standing up for what we believe in and making choices that reflect who we are, even if they may not be straightforward or widely accepted.

In conclusion, discipline is a vital component of our lives that enables us to accomplish our objectives and live a happy, meaningful life. To become more skilled, it takes time and work, but the benefits are well worth it. I’m grateful.

Speech on Discipline [1,2,3 Minutes]

Speech on Discipline: It is said that discipline can shape the future of a student, Obviously, it is true but not only limited to students. Discipline holds equal value for every human who follows it & can define anyone’s bright future. Actually, it is a part of any plan to achieve desired results.

If you have set a goal to achieve something, you should have proper planning. And to execute your plan, discipline plays a crucial role. Without following a discipline, you won’t be able to achieve what you planned to. That is why someone said, “if you failed to plan, you planned to fail”.

1 Minute Speech On Discipline

Reputable Principal, respected teachers and my dear friends! First of all, I would like to welcome all of you and also thank you all for having me a chance to deliver a speech on the importance of discipline.

No matter what your aim is, being disciplined will help you achieve that. With the help of discipline, one can plan their goals and achieve them without any uncertainty. A nation’s defence army is the best illustration of a disciplined environment.

Discipline refers to the practice of training your mind and body so that you control your actions and obey rules. It is the only system that is going to guide you for your entire life. Discipline is as vital for success as oxygen for humans to live life.

To sum it up, discipline is the key to achieving desired results out of your efforts. It equips us to achieve our goals. Self-Discipline is more important than anyone else’s. To master every area of life one needs to be disciplined.

Thank you for listening to my words. I hope you liked it.

1 Minute Speech On Discipline's Value in Life

2 Minute Speech On Discipline

Hello, all the people present here,

first of all, I would like to wish you all the best wishes for the day & also thank you all for having me a chance to speak a few words on the value of discipline.

“ Motivation gets you going but Discipline keeps you growing “. This quote teaches you the importance of discipline in one’s life. Discipline enables you to achieve what you have planned for. It also plays an important role in our personality development and prospects.

Discipline simply means controlling your mind just like a driver controls the vehicle. for example, If you are disciplined in your eating habits , means you are controlling yourself from eating junk and thus you will get a healthy & fit body.

The same applies to every other area you can imagine. Wherever you apply discipline you will clearly witness growth. Therefore, every student should be disciplined in his studies to perform outstandingly. Most noteworthy, some of us consider it a hard task but it is not.

Discipline does not snatch your enjoyment but it doubles it when you club it with time management. Discipline is definitely the ladder towards success. Moreover, discipline brings out the best in us. Most unusual, discipline keeps track of our  body, mind, and soul .

I stop my speech here. I hope you like my words.

3 Minute Speech on Discipline

Did you hear the term “Time Management”? Obviously, you did. But did you ever think of “MInd Management”? If not I want to let you know that Mind management is Discipline . And Time management is part of discipline.

When you start acting according to your wisdom rather than your mind, you can call it Discipline. For example, your mind tells you to eat fast food but wisdom informs you that junk food is not healthy and listening to wisdom, means you are disciplined in your eating.

In short, differentiating between what is right and what is wrong, is discipline. There are mainly two types of discipline that exist. The first one is induced discipline and the second one is self-discipline.

Induced discipline simply means when someone else takes control of your life and decisions. And self-discipline means when one oneself takes control of their life. What do you think? which one is better?

Absolutely, Self-discipline is better. When someone else controls you, it becomes irritating and you always try to get rid of it. But when you yourself control your life, you probably enjoy it.

Discipline is a staircase by which the person gets success. It helps a person to concentrate on his/her goals. Also, it does not let him/her distracted from the goal. Additionally, it causes perfection in a person’s life by educating and training the mind and body of the person to respond to the rules and regulations which helps him to be a better citizen.

Jim Rohn has correctly said that “Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishments”. Discipline is the key to achieving desired outcomes out of your efforts. It prepares us to achieve our goals . So, it is best to practice discipline from the early standards of our life.

This is what I wanted to say about Discipline and its power. I hope you liked my speech.

We will present a sample of a speech given by the school principal on the first day of school in which he motivates students to discipline and abide by the school’s principles and laws. He also explained to the students the importance of discipline and maintaining order within the school.

He explained to them that their lack of discipline may expose them to punishment, while discipline, commitment and seriousness will make them excel in their studies in particular, and successful in their lives in general, as they will be loved by others.

The text of the speech was as follows:

Discipline is the key to success

My students, welcome back to school. Today is the first day of the new school year. Welcome to your school.

And I hope that it will be a good academic year in which you will study many useful sciences, and in which you will gain new experiences that will help you succeed in your studies in particular and succeed in life in general.

A group of great teachers will be taught to you. I hope that you will benefit from their knowledge and experience, and set a good example for you. I would like you to realize that the educational process depends on several factors, the most important of which are the teacher and the student.

If the teacher is good, but the student is careless and undisciplined,  he will not benefit from the teacher. aLikewise, if the teacher is not well qualified, he will not be able to benefit the student. Therefore, we have provided you with qualified teachers, educationally and scientifically.

school discipline

Your duty, students, is to be disciplined and do your best to learn in a good way, and there are rules and laws that students must follow, and I will read them to you now to abide by them throughout the school year, which are:

  • Commitment to attend school and not be absent except for exceptional circumstances, such as illness.
  • Commitment to school deadlines (attendance, leaving),
  • Discipline in the classroom, and sitting in your place.
  • Treat your teachers with respect.
  • You must be cooperative with your classmates.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of your classroom in particular, and your school in general.
  • Maintaining public property inside the school and preserving tools and equipment in laboratories, computer rooms, and others.
  • If you encounter any problem, you can ask the supervisor or social worker to solve this problem.
  • There is a punishment for breaking school rules, which is expulsion from school.

General discipline

There is no doubt that discipline in life in general is necessary. The state sets many laws to regulate life, such as commercial laws that show the relationship in commercial transactions between individuals, companies and banks, and foreign trade as well, such as import and export laws, customs, taxes and so on.

And criminal laws that specify deterrent penalties for criminals, in order to establish security in society, in addition to civil laws such as the Traffic Law and the Family Law. There are also military laws that apply to conscripts.

The individual must be aware of the laws of his town in order to avoid committing offenses for which he will be punished.

The need for discipline and its advantages

In the end, I would like to introduce you to some of the old students, they have come today to prove to you that this school is an example to follow in discipline, and many distinguished scholars and men have graduated from it.

From this school famous personalities graduated such as doctors, brilliant engineers, and politicians with a great deal of responsibility, and the common factor between them was discipline.

My dear students, achieving great goals requires discipline and focus on our goals without getting distracted by things that make us stray from the right path.

My dear students, I wish you a good academic year, in which you achieve your goals. I wish you success in your studies, and in your future life.

The effort you make today will find its results in the future, and you must know that there is no success without fatigue, and that the things that we obtain easily are easily lost from us, while the things that we obtain after a great effort will be preserved throughout our lives.

I also advise you to benefit from the experiences of others and to set a good example for you.

Speech on discipline in 200 words

Discipline is the safe and secure way to achieve our dreams, because discipline makes us focus on our goal and try to achieve it with the least effort and the shortest time, and discipline makes us not get caught up in minor things that distract our thinking from the main goal that we dream of achieving.

When we know the importance of discipline in our lives, there will be no difficulty in organizing our lives, and being disciplined people.

In fact, discipline regulates the life of both the individual and society. In an individual’s life, there are many dreams that he wants to become a reality, and you may view them as difficult to achieve. But when he sets his priorities and sets a plan to achieve these priorities and commits himself to implementing that plan, he will achieve everything he wished for easily and in the least time.

Great goals require determination and great challenge, you may give up doing some of the things you love, but that is a simple sacrifice in order to achieve great goals. You will feel happy and proud when you achieve these great goals.

You will also be one of the prominent people in society because of your discipline, because success does not come by chance or luck, but success is achieved through determination, patience and challenge.

The challenge may be great, it may be a challenge to yourself and prevent you from doing things you love, it may be a challenge to the environment and the circumstances surrounding you, and it may be a challenge to competitors in your same field. But in the end, success will make you forget all your fatigue.

Short speech on discipline

We can define discipline in an easy way, which is that discipline is control over our actions and words, that is, discipline makes it possible to control everything we do. This definition makes us accept discipline because it is a process of organizing priorities and not restricting our freedoms.

It is very important that we define our goal and develop a deliberate plan to implement this goal, and we must adhere to the plan in order to achieve our goal on time.

This method must be a way of life, for example, the student wants to succeed with distinction, the employee wants to advance in his work and get a better job, and the family wants to raise its children with a good upbringing. It varies from one person to another. But in the end we must know that discipline is the only way to achieve great goals.

Speech on Importance of Discipline

If you have a plan and you really want to implement it, there is no way to do that without discipline. There are two types of discipline, and often we need each of them in order for our lives to be better.

Self-discipline needs each person to organize his time and effort in a way that is commensurate with the goal he wants to achieve. Self-discipline differs from one person to another, and its degree may change from one stage to another depending on the goals we want to achieve.

As for general discipline, it is an important thing to maintain order and security in society, and it must be adhered to by all citizens, and whoever violates the laws will be punished, in order to be a deterrent to others.

The absence of discipline leads to the spread of chaos, and the failure to accomplish any useful work, which results in the spread of poverty and ignorance. We must realize that great goals require great effort.

Speech on self discipline

Self-discipline is important for every person, it comes from within and is subject to our conscience without the need for anyone to give us orders or monitor us. We need to acquire this important quality, which is self-discipline.

This is because we are the ones who adhere to self-discipline, and we define it according to our circumstances and abilities. For example, there is a student who commits himself to studying for four hours a day, while another student commits himself to studying for eight hours a day, and it is important that we adhere to the plan that we set.

Also, discipline should not be an obstacle for us to live a happy life, because organizing time and setting goals will make our life better. It is important that there is always time to practice the hobbies that we love, and to practice social life and others.

1 Minute speech on discipline

Without discipline, chaos will reign, and we cannot achieve any success. This principle applies to both individuals and societies, and therefore we find that the state has allocated the Ministry of Planning, and this ministry is responsible for setting plans for the development of the state in all areas.

These plans may be long-term or short-term, then the implementation, and the most important reason for the success of these plans is discipline in their implementation.

Likewise, the lives of individuals need organization and planning for the future, and our efforts in the present will reap its fruits in the future, and we must benefit from the experiences of people who have been able to achieve great success, so we must study the way they followed and take them as an example for us.

Speech on value of discipline

Discipline has great value in our lives, we need discipline in order to achieve our great goals. We must realize that success is not achieved by chance, but is achieved as a result of a great effort we have made, and a discipline we have committed to in our lives.

One of the benefits of discipline is that it enables you to identify weaknesses in your plan, quickly address them and correct your mistakes. Discipline also saves time and effort, so you can achieve your goal in less time and less effort as well.

In general, discipline makes you a person of value in society, whether it is a scientific, social or other value. Discipline will earn you the respect and appreciation of others.

Some see discipline as a denial of many things, but rational people consider discipline to be just the regulation of our behavior.

Self discipline is the best discipline speech

In fact, self-discipline is the best quality that a person can have, because self-discipline does not need someone to monitor or punish you if you do not comply, but self-discipline is from within you and you are the watcher of yourself.

When you break some rules or laws, you feel uncomfortable and unhappy, but you try to force yourself to follow the rules again. In most cases, a disciplined person can control his behavior and adjust it easily.

One of the benefits of self-discipline is that the person determines the things that must be done and the things that must not be done. He also determines the time to do everything so that he organizes his time and effort, and at the same time achieves the best results.

Discipline motivational speech

It is important to get used to discipline from a young age, because discipline makes us more receptive to obeying orders and carrying them out, and makes us abide by laws and rules easily.

There are many people who cannot abide by the laws, and this is as a result of their upbringing on complete freedom, without making any future plans or taking into account the rights of others.

These people often make mistakes and break the laws, and this exposes them to punishment. For example, you find some people do not abide by traffic rules despite their knowledge of these rules and their knowledge of the penalty for violating these rules.

However, they are not accustomed to discipline from a young age, so their behavior becomes undisciplined, and they feel annoyed when they are asked to follow the laws.

Hence the importance of teaching children discipline through the family, school and various media.

Motivational speech on discipline

Discipline has many benefits for both the individual and society. For example, discipline brings us a good job opportunity, as the disciplined person leaves a positive impact on others, and makes others trust him and realize that he is a responsible person and can do his work seriously.

The good impression that a disciplined person leaves on others will make them nominate him for important jobs, and thus he will achieve success in his job and rise to higher positions.

The undisciplined person who does not care about organizing his life will not be persuaded by employers and they  will not depend on him to do any important work.

In addition to achieving a distinguished social position, the discipline also will make us gain the respect and appreciation of others.

Long Speech On Self-Discipline And Its Importance 500 Words In English

Good morning my fellow friends and teachers.

The topic of my speech is self-discipline and its importance.

First, I would like to address how self-discipline is essential and that all of us, irrespective of our age, should have self-discipline. Self-discipline is when you know how to utilize your time and not procrastinate. Sometimes, when we are enjoying ourselves, we seem to immerse ourselves in a fit of relaxation. And he chose to neglect other important work. We keep delaying doing that work, which would have been completed long ago if we were a bit more focused. Talking about focus, we often get distracted while we are doing something. Our mind seems to wander off, and we forget entirely what we were doing. With self-discipline, it wouldn’t be like that. We need to try to improve ourselves every moment. Bettering ourselves is also a part of self-discipline.

Children need to learn discipline from a very young age. We need to teach them basic ethics and mannerisms. That would include things like saying “sorry,” “please,” “I beg your pardon,” etc. Then things like opening a door from someone, respecting your elders, helping others out when they need your help.

Some people are self-disciplined naturally, while others have to put in some effort before achieving it. To achieve self-discipline, you should engage in meditation. Meditation helps to calm yourself and be cool-tempered. It helps you to control your urges and channels energy in the right direction.

Another way to achieve self-discipline is to set a routine and live according to that. You need to divide your day in such a way so that you have time for everything. You can study all the subjects and still have some extra time to revise or focus on the wrong subject. Or use that freedom to indulge yourself in a hobby.

Hobbies can help you relieve stress, and it is also a perfect way to learn something new and fun. You should try and learn how to control yourself from giving in to distractions. Due to the advancements in technology and the environment, things like television, mobile phone, video games, etc.

Take up a significant portion of our time. Instead of taking a nap or read a book, we get easily disturbed my social media notifications. Our generation is part of social media from a very young age.

There are both pros and cons to that. But we should deactivate once in a while and concentrate more on real life. We should not be overwhelmed by what we see on the internet. Instead, we should focus on bettering our own lives. Therefore, go to bed early, or read a storybook before going to bed instead of staying awake until unhealthy hours in the morning. It’s not good for our mental and physical health.

Self-discipline is crucial as it teaches us to be better humans. To be better versions of ourselves. To be decent, caring, and loving. Self-love is also a part of self-discipline. You are doing this not for others but yourself. To lead a healthy and correct lifestyle, self-discipline is quite essential. In today’s world, people are more occupied with other things, and they forget basic human manners.

Our sample discipline speech is highly impactful which can be used at organizational levels too.

3 Minutes Speech on Discipline

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Discipline—this singular word encapsulates the essence of success and achievement . It’s not merely a set of rules or routines; it’s the cornerstone upon which our accomplishments stand. Jim Rohn’s words resonate profoundly: discipline acts as the bridge linking our aspirations to reality.

From our earliest days to the very fabric of our existence, discipline molds our character. It’s the compass guiding us through life’s complexities, steering us toward our goals with unwavering focus and dedication. A disciplined individual doesn’t just work; they excel, delivering their best in everything they do.

Yet, discipline isn’t a monolithic concept. It wears different faces in different lives, shaping itself to fit personal beliefs and perceptions. Some see it as a guiding principle, while others may not accord it the same reverence.

However, at its core, discipline teaches us an invaluable lesson: the pursuit of immediate pleasure seldom leads to lasting freedom. True freedom arises from the conscious choices we make, aligning with our long-term ambitions.

Embracing discipline isn’t about constraint; it’s liberation. It empowers us to forge ahead, staying committed when obstacles loom large, and consistently striving to surpass our own limits.

Let us harness the transformative power of discipline, steering our lives toward success and fulfillment. May it guide our actions, shape our destinies, and pave the way for a future where achievements aren’t just dreams but tangible realities.

But let me tell you that our English Department has organized this small ceremony to help you and us know each other well and declare the day of the freshers party as well.

As one of your seniors, I am here to hold an interactive session with you all and also to deliver a speech on discipline. There is reason behind choosing the topic called ‘Discipline’. You have successfully accomplished a benchmark by completing your higher secondary studies and now are geared up to live your college life to the fullest. It’s a very fancy world as I am sure; you all know this somehow – no restrictions, no dress code, etc. But behind this glossy picture – there is one lurking reality too. Do you know what is it? Well, these 3 years of your college life are going to dictate your future. Either in these 3 years you can make your future or break it.

So the bottom line is, enjoy your college life to the most as this time won’t come back, but also inculcate that essential ingredient in your life called Discipline, so that your studies are not affected.

Now, may I ask you what discipline is? Discipline can be defined as a set of rules and regulations, which one must abide. Discipline is extremely important in our lives as a social being to maintain a rhythm in the society that we live in by laying down certain code of conduct so that we can evolve ourselves as a good human being. Discipline is taught to us both at home and in our school. In school, we maintain a time table for covering our respective subjects and also for behaving in an appropriate manner.

It goes without saying that discipline is required in every walk of life and is the very foundation of a civilized society. It not only helps us in becoming a responsible human being, but also in achieving our goals. So if you are again going to practice discipline in life, you will not find yourself in a chaos. You would be able to manage your studies and enjoy at the same time.

While you are free bird now, the college still expects from its students to ensure to a high standard of discipline within the premise and inculcate a right attitude towards your studies. Please remember that discipline will help you in excelling your college studies as well like you all must have excelled during your school days. This is observed as one of the most important quality in an individual. So discipline your college life too and streamline your study methodology so that amidst your parties and hang out plans, you still have the time to deliver your roles and responsibilities as a student. Isn’t it?

Now, let me reveal the day of fresher’s party, which you all must be getting impatient to hear – on Wednesday in the coming week.

Long Speech on Discipline

Respected Principal, Respected Teachers and My Dear Friends!

First of all, I would like to welcome all of you to the annual day of our school. Every year we celebrate this day with a lot of enthusiasm and fervor. While at one side, students are excited to get promoted to the next class, there is also a regret of leaving the memories of the previous class.

It’s a great pleasure to be given this opportunity to host the programme and deliver welcome speech . The topic that I chose this year is ‘Discipline’.

Even though, we all are aware of the dictionary meaning of this term, but how many of us actually follow our inner instinct?

Discipline means ‘doing the things in the moral and ethical manner’. School is the second place after our home, where we learn discipline. Discipline is basically the suppression of base desires and is often understood to be similar to self – restraint and control. Disciplined person determines the best course of action irrespective of one’s wishes. Honest behavior is another form of discipline; it can be described as when one’s values and aims are aligned with each other.

School discipline has a very important role to play in an individual’s life. It is a necessary set of actions adopted by a teacher towards a student or group of students, if the ongoing educational activity has been disrupted due to the student’s behavior or if the student breaks any particular rule created by the school authority. Discipline basically guides the children’s behavior, sets limits and ultimately helps them learn to care for themselves and others.

Discipline can come in several forms. School systems make rules and regulations and if any student breaks these rules, they are subject to punishment; which ultimately is aimed to teach discipline to the student. The school rules may include defining the expected clothing standards, social conduct, timekeeping and work ethic.

While discipline is necessary to condition the students; teachers should be mindful not to beat students to the extent that they get badly hurt. It is also called corporal punishment. Several reports indicate that some teachers get violent in the name of discipline harming students physically and mentally. Thus, the focus of discipline is now shifting and substitute approaches are evolving due to all these incidents.

Many schools now-a-days focuses on ‘Positive Discipline’; it’s a discipline model that emphasizes on the positive aspects of behavior, found on the concept that there are no bad students, just bad and good behaviors. Accordingly, you can reinforce the good behaviors through counseling and examples without hurting the child. People promoting positive disciplines don’t ignore the problems rather tackle the problem peacefully.

Discipline is also required in our professional life and thus it is all the more important. Like a company cannot be successful without a proper strategy, we also can’t succeed without certain rules and discipline in our life. Inculcating good habits like waking up early, doing regular exercise, eating healthy food, not indulging into bad habits like smoking, drinking, etc would keep us healthy and fit.

Thus, it is important that we remain disciplined in every aspect of our life.

Good morning everybody!

My topic for today’s session is on explaining as to what ‘Discipline’ means and how important it is for all of us to adhere to it.

What do you all think that discipline means? Alright, till the time that you people collate your thoughts I would share my views on this.

Discipline is a very basic necessity for one’s progress. Being disciplined does not mean that you follow every rule that you are asked to. It means having self control and ability to adjust yourself as per the changing trends and instructions. Being disciplined will always give you the genuine pleasure of freedom. Ask yourselves, isn’t it that the student or the employee who is disciplined never ever kept at doubt. That person is always given the freedom for their actions, as everybody knows that they have complete control on themselves and are mature enough for decision implementation.

Discipline is extremely necessary in all spheres of our life. Just imagine, is it ever possible for an army to fight without strict discipline? Is there any educational institution to run without discipline? No, right! So, this proves that being disciplined is very crucial and important element of everybody’s life.

We all need to have a destined disciplinary routine in order to work well in our personal and professional life. We should monitor each and every small action of ours. From eating on time and in right quantity to sleep at right time for sufficient hours. Everything needs to be taken care of for living a healthy and wise life. One must practice self control in order to position themselves in terms of their health, wealth and overall society that they live in.

We inherit discipline in us by seeing others. Since our childhood it is our parents and grandparents seeing whom we build our daily routine and do day to day activities. I have observed this many a times that people following due discipline get a high end support from others during the times when needed. To have a progressive and stable life we must make sure that we follow a disciplined life. We should act as a motivation for all those who are around us. Seeing us stable, peaceful, happy and determined towards our actions due to our specific disciplined flow of life we will attract good people towards us. Our in built gestures towards dedication help us move forward towards our achievements as the disciplined person is way too planned in their actions and task executions. Punctuality and discipline are intertwined threads weaving a tapestry of reliability, responsibility, and success in every facet of life

There is no stage of life that offers you a healthy happy life if you are not disciplined. Practice discipline everyday and I assure you as per my personal experience that everything that you wish for will come your way. Things that seem difficult will be just so easy and convenient for each one of you when you mould your life in discipline. Leadership forged through discipline not only steers with vision but also sets the standard, fostering a culture of accountability and excellence.

Thank you for taking out your time and listening to this most important topic. Hope you implement it now itself in your life. Take care and good luck!

Good evening friends and my dear colleagues,

This is a special workshop organized by your company to improve our inherited value of discipline in it. Thank you all for taking out time and being a part of this session.

For many of you, this word discipline means something you practice and preach daily and for a few of you it might seem something that is ignored or not scrupulously followed as I know I am right on addressing this part. When we come to maturity, we have to learn self-discipline: how to govern and rule ourselves. This is the hardest task of all. Discipline is not only desirable but also indispensable. Discipline should be the first criterion of the family.

As per my experience, I address discipline as the act of executing well planned tasks in order to get the best results for ourselves. These results not necessarily mean monetary or tangible benefits, but also along with these it caters to the healthy living and progressive life. Self actualization about self control is discipline to me. This all depends on the values inherited in us since our childhood.

It is one of the very necessary tools for everyone in every stage or phase of life whether at home, office, playground or other places. Our daily lives would become unorganized and mismanaged if we do not follow and practice discipline in life.

Everything in this world is expected to follow certain discipline. Sun always rises in the morning and sets at evening every day. Isn’t it? It never happens to be vice versa. Morning and evening come daily without getting late, river always run, and many more.

Being disciplined automatically helps a person in being motivated. Following a dedicated routine of planned actions with self control helps in executions that are more progressive for us and make us walk the path that best routes us for our well being. There is no specific age bar for having discipline in our life, from students to teachers and from children to parents; everybody should follow discipline.

In the easiest way, I would address that discipline is one’s ability to adjust oneself to the given situation. Discipline is to making priorities. The one who is planned is the one whose life goes on track and faces less number of hurdles. Being disciplined helps in maintaining the flow of life and ensures the better progress for future. Freedom and success comes with responsibility and the one who has complete control on himself has the ability to manage the greatest success and freedom with utmost responsibility.

To happily and successfully lead and maintain an authentic lifestyle one has to have control on avoiding distractions. So, my dear friends learn to adjust yourself on the given situations in life. Discipline yourself and leave behind an inspiring legacy of success!

I hope that after this session of ours, you have been able to actually lighten up your thought on how important is it for each one of us to be disciplined and focused in our lives.

Bridget Phillipson's speech at the Embassy Education Conference

Secretary of State for Education Bridget Phillipson delivers a speech at the Embassy Education Conference.

The Rt Hon Bridget Phillipson MP

Thank you very much. I am delighted to be here with you today. Thanks so much for the invitation.

In my first weeks as secretary of state in this new government I have been resetting relationships across the length and breadth of education.

I want to refresh old partnerships and grow new ones, not just at home but around the world too.

By joining forces in education, we can build new bridges between our nations.

And I want to set the record straight on international students. I know there’s been some mixed messaging from governments in the past, from our predecessors most of all.

And for too long international students have been treated as political footballs, not valued guests.

Their fees welcomed, but their presence resented.

Exploited for cheap headlines, not cherished for all they bring to our communities.

This government will take a different approach and we will speak clearly.

Be in no doubt: international students are welcome in the UK.

This new government values their contribution – to our universities, to our communities, to our country.

I want Britain to welcome those who want to come to these shores to study, and meet the requirements to do so.

Now this is part of a wider sea change here in the UK.

Under this new government, education is once again at the forefront of national life.

Under this new government, universities are a public good, not a political battleground.

Under this new government, opportunity is for everyone.

And our international partnerships are central to this drive to spread opportunity far and wide.

The more we work together, the more progress we will see in the world – partners in the push for better.

Closed systems that only look inward quickly run out of ideas. Creativity crumbles, innovation dies, the same thoughts spin round and round and collapse in on themselves.

But through our international partners, we can reach out across the world and bring back a freshness of thought that breathes new life into our society.

That includes our universities, and it includes international students.

How could it not?

These people are brave. They move to a new culture, far away from their homes and their families.

They take a leap of faith, hoping to develop new skills and chase new horizons. And I am enormously proud that so many want to take that leap here in the UK.

And we will do everything we can to help them succeed.

That’s why we offer the opportunity to remain in the UK on a graduate visa for 2 years after their studies end – or 3 for PhDs – to work, to live, and to contribute.

While this government is committed to managing migration carefully, international students will always be welcome in this country.

The UK wouldn’t be the same without them.

Arts, music, culture, sport, food, language, humour – international students drive dynamism on so many levels.

And of course, their contribution to the British economy is substantial. Each international student adds about £100,000 to our national prosperity.

This impact is not just a national statistic. It’s felt in towns and cities right across country.

I’ve seen it in Sunderland, where I have the privilege to serve as a member of parliament. The city is home to almost 5,000 international students.

Many come from China, flying across the world to study at the University of Sunderland. I welcome their presence and I value their contribution.

And students from all nations add to the city’s buzz.

More footfall on our highstreets.

More laughter in our pubs.

More conversation in our cafes.

International students contribute so much to my home city, so much to our country.  And they get so much in return. The UK is a fantastic place to come and study.

Every student who steps off the plane in Manchester or arrives on the Eurostar in London is a vote of confidence in our universities.

Students come because they know they will receive a world class education. They come because they know it sets them up for success.

Many go on to positions of power. Above the desks of leaders around the world sit certificates from British universities.

They, and hopefully many of you, will know the joy of living abroad, the excitement of discovering a new culture, a new perspective, perhaps even a new weather system …

While students may not come to the UK for our weather system, they do come for our rich and varied culture.

They know this is a country that sparks genius, that has birthed innovation to the rest of the world.

What better place to study science than the land of Charles Darwin, Ada Lovelace, Alan Turing?

What better place to study English than the land of William Shakespeare, Jane Austen, Zadie Smith?

And what better place to study music than the land of John Lennon, Stormzy, Adele?

Students benefit from coming to the UK, and we benefit from them being here.

But I don’t see this as a hard-nosed transactional relationship. It’s not just about GDP, balance sheets or export receipts.

No. My passion is for an open, global Britain – one that welcomes new ideas.

One that looks outward in optimism, not inward in exclusion.

In my university days I made some wonderful friends who came from around the world.

They broadened my horizons, challenged my views, and pushed me to be better.

Students come and build bonds with their classmates – and friendships between students become friendships between countries.

That’s what education is all about.

A force for good in people’s lives, a force for good in our world.

A generation of young people who have studied abroad and cultivated friendships with people from different cultures – those ties make the world a safer, more vibrant place.

This new government is mission-led. And I am leading on the mission to break down the barriers to opportunity.

I am determined to make Britain the international home of opportunity.

So I want genuine partnerships with countries across the world in higher education and beyond.

We already have deep education partnerships with countless countries around the globe, and I want to build more.

From our closest neighbours, France, Germany, Italy and Spain, to major regional powers, India, Nigeria, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, important allies, the US and Australia, to world leading systems like Singapore and Japan, and many others.

Whether that’s through British international schools abroad, or cross-border collaboration on skills training.

School trips and scholarships, exchange programmes and language learning, policy conversations that span the early years to learners with special educational needs.

And I want our universities to work with their international partners to deliver courses across borders.

Education must be at the forefront of tackling the major global challenges of our time.

Artificial intelligence, climate change, poverty, misinformation, polarisation, war and instability.

Education puts us on the path to freedom.

Intellectual freedom. Economic freedom. Social freedom. Cultural freedom.

Through education, we can enlarge and expand those freedoms, we can show that government is a power not just for administration but for transformation.

The answer is partnership. And the answer is education.

As I close, I want to extend an invitation to all your education ministers to attend the education world forum here in London next year from the 18th to the 21st of May.

You can expect a rich exchange of ideas, visits to schools, colleges and universities, and enlightening keynote speakers.

This is a time of change here in Britain. A new age of hope. A new era of optimism for our country.

A place where once again education and opportunity are the foundations of a better society.

A place where our universities are nurseries of global friendships, as well as places of economic growth.

A place where new ideas are prized.

I want to work with all of you to deliver opportunity for all – not just here at home, but across the world too.

Restore Civility in Response to Derogatory Remarks on Social Media

A cellphone screen with the icons for various social media sites.

Employers should respond to employees’ derogatory comments on social media about their employers, colleagues, and political candidates in a way that aligns with legal obligations and employee relations concerns.

Employees’ rights under the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA)—with their shifting interpretations by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) and courts—must be weighed against employers’ responsibility to comply with equal employment opportunity (EEO) laws and focus on maintaining a civil workforce to improve employee relations.

An employer that disciplines an employee for engaging in offensive speech that has any relation to union activity or workplace issues—such as wages, hours, or working conditions—might violate the NLRA, said John Ring, an attorney with Morgan Lewis in Washington, D.C., and a former chairman of the NLRB.

In some cases, the NLRB has protected speech that would be considered hostile work environment conduct in violation of EEO laws, he added.

“This puts employers in a difficult position of having to comply with conflicting legal requirements—the NLRB saying offensive speech is protected while the EEOC [U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission] says employers have an obligation to stop offensive speech,” Ring said.

Many employers, when confronted with the conflict, will choose to stop the offensive speech and avoid EEO liability even if there is a risk of an NLRB charge, Ring said.

“Not only is the liability for EEO violations often much greater than an NLRB violation, but employers that value a respectful and inclusive workplace will not tolerate offensive speech or conduct,” he said.

Shifting Standards

In the 2020 General Motors LLC decision, the NLRB established one standard for assessing whether employee misconduct, including profane or abusive outbursts, was protected under the NLRA. This standard allowed employers more leeway to discipline employees for such conduct. The NLRB’s new test replaced several standards that applied in different circumstances. One applied to workers’ interactions with management, another applied to postings on social media and conversations between employees, and a third standard covered offensive conduct on the picket line.

Under General Motors , the NLRB’s general counsel first had to prove that an employee’s protected activity was a motivating factor for disciplinary action. “If that burden is met, the employer must then prove it would have taken the same action even in the absence of the protected activity, for example, by showing consistent discipline of other employees who engaged in similar abusive or offensive conduct,” the board said.

SHRM supported the decision.

“This is an important victory,” said Emily M. Dickens, SHRM chief of staff,  head of government affairs, and corporate secretary. “Proper civility, respect, inclusion, and tolerance are core values of the modern workforce. Employees simply cannot, and should not, be allowed to use abusive and profane language under the guise of ‘concerted activity’ and find themselves protected by federal labor law.”

Last year, in a decision called Lion Elastomers LLC II , the NLRB overruled General Motors , making it harder for employers to discipline or fire workers engaged in offensive conduct while conducting activity protected by the NLRB. The new ruling reinstated a setting-specific standard for evaluating employee behavior. This meant different standards applied depending on whether the behavior happened in a workplace meeting, on social media, or during a strike.

However, on July 9, the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals vacated the NLRB’s 2023 Lion Elastomers decision and ordered the board to apply General Motors in the Lion Elastomers case. The 5th Circuit found that the NLRB had deprived synthetic rubber products manufacturer Lion Elastomers of its due-process rights.

Nonetheless, the NLRB remains “likely to find offensive speech protected,” Ring said. “It is important that managers and supervisors are trained to consider the NLRB’s position. Employers cannot simply react as most might automatically do and discipline an employee who engages in offensive or hostile speech in the workplace.”

Many employers may choose to discipline employees for such speech regardless of the NLRB’s position, but such decisions should be made thoughtfully, he said. “Employers may be able to reduce the NLRB risks by focusing discipline solely on the offensive conduct while acknowledging employees’ right to otherwise engage in protected activity involving workplace concerns.”

Publicity and Employee Relations Concerns

Don’t just consider the legal issues, said Richard Greenberg, an attorney with Jackson Lewis in New York City. Also consider how the employer’s actions could impact the company’s public relations, client/customer relations, employee relations, and culture, he recommended.

An employee posting about their involvement with an organization or initiative while making a clear affiliation with their employer could create publicity concerns for the employer and, regardless of whether the affiliation is clear, raise internal HR issues if other employees with different views become aware, he noted.

If someone posts about frustration with the company’s response to an issue in a negative way, unwanted publicity and HR issues might arise, he said.

However, individuals as part of organizing drives might post negative messages about the company, some of which might be protected by law, Greenberg cautioned.

“As to politics, the political discourse today includes not only support for a particular view or candidate, but also criticisms or hateful speech about opposing views, which could result in divisiveness and hostility among co-workers,” he said.

A respectful climate in which individuals are reminded to maintain positive relationships with co-workers is essential, he noted.

Employers should act appropriately and recognize HR considerations, Greenberg said. Ensure “lawful policies are in place as proper policies governing conduct,” including misconduct creating a hostile work environment due to statements outside the workplace.

But the business should conduct a protected concerted conduct analysis and review defenses before disciplining a nonsupervisory employee for statements about the company, Greenberg said. Supervisors are not covered by the NLRA, except for under limited circumstances.

Trump and Allies Assail Conviction With Faulty Claims

After former President Donald J. Trump was found guilty, he and a number of conservative figures in the news media and lawmakers on the right have spread false and misleading claims about the Manhattan case.

A low-angle view from behind former President Donald J. Trump as he addresses news media members who are standing behind red rope.

By Linda Qiu

Reporting from Washington

After former President Donald J. Trump was found guilty of all 34 felony counts of falsifying business records, he instantly rejected the verdict and assailed the judge and criminal justice system.

His loyalists in the conservative news media and Congress quickly followed suit, echoing his baseless assertions that he had fallen victim to a politically motivated sham trial.

The display of unity reflected the extent of Mr. Trump’s hold over his base.

The former president and his supporters have singled out the judge who presided over the case, denigrated the judicial system and distorted the circumstances of the charges against him and his subsequent conviction.

Here’s a fact check of some of their claims.

What Was Said

“We had a conflicted judge, highly conflicted. There’s never been a more conflicted judge.” — Mr. Trump in a news conference on Friday at Trump Tower in Manhattan

This is exaggerated. For over a year, Mr. Trump and his allies have said Justice Juan M. Merchan should not preside over the case because of his daughter’s line of work. Loren Merchan, the daughter, served as the president of a digital campaign strategy agency that has done work for many prominent Democrats, including Mr. Biden’s 2020 campaign.

Experts in judicial ethics have said Ms. Merchan’s work is not sufficient grounds for recusal . When Mr. Trump’s legal team sought his recusal because of his daughter, Justice Merchan sought counsel from the New York State Advisory Committee on Judicial Ethics, which said it did not see any conflict of interest .

Harris in Houston slams Trump as divisive and disrespectful

The vice president spoke to a historically Black sorority hours after the Republican candidate falsely accused her of avoiding her racial identity.

U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris delivers remarks during the Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc.'s 60th International Biennial Boule event in Houston, Texas, on July 31, 2024.

Vice President Kamala Harris decried former President Donald Trump as divisive and disrespectful in response to his recent attacks about her race, as she addressed a historically Black sorority event in Houston on Wednesday.

Speaking to the Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority’s Biennial Boule, Harris said: “The American people deserve better.”

“The American people deserve a leader who tells the truth,” Harris continued. “A leader who does not respond with hostility and anger when confronted with the facts. We deserve a leader who understands that our differences do not divide us. It is an essential source of our strength.”

Earlier in the day, Trump ridiculed Harris’ heritage as the first Black and Indian American vice president during an interview at the National Association of Black Journalists’ convention in Chicago. Trump falsely claimed Harris did not lean into her Black identity until it became politically advantageous to do so.

“She was always of Indian heritage and she was only promoting Indian heritage,” Trump said. “I didn’t know she was Black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn Black. And now she wants to be known as Black. So I don’t know. Is she Indian or is she Black? I respect either one, but she obviously doesn’t.”

ABC News’ Rachel Scott, who was one of the moderators of the interview, pointed out that Harris has always identified as Black and attended Howard University, a historically Black university. When asked if he felt that Harris was a “DEI hire,” as several of his fellow Republicans have said, Trump said, “I really don’t know. Could be.”

On Wednesday evening in Houston, Harris responded: “It was the same old show. The divisiveness and the disrespect. And let me just say, the American people deserve better.”

Harris’ visit to Houston is part of her third trip to Texas in July. Harris was in Houston earlier last week for a briefing on the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl and to deliver a speech at the American Federal of Teachers’ national convention. Harris also visited Dallas earlier in the month to speak at the Alpha Kappa Alpha annual convention.

Harris will stay in Houston through Thursday to attend the service for U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee , D-Houston, who died earlier this month . Harris will deliver a eulogy, along with other prominent national Democratic elected officials.

Harris plans to go on a battleground tour next week, visiting several cities in key states of Pennsylvania, Michigan, North Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Arizona and Nevada.

During her speech at the Sigma Gamma Rho event, Harris urged attendees to organize voters and bolster turnout as they did in 2020 when she ran with President Joe Biden.

“Election day is in 97 days, and in this moment once again, our nation is counting on you to energize, to organize and to mobilize,” Harris said. “Because when we organize, mountains move. When we mobilize, nations change. And when we vote, we make history.”

Harris previewed her policy priorities should she get elected president. She vowed to pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act and the Freedom to Vote Act. The two bills, which have remained stalled in Congress, would increase federal oversight of elections and codify expanded access to voter registration and the ballot.

Harris also addressed gun violence, promising to codify universal background checks, red flag laws and an “assault weapons ban.”

Harris blamed Trump for restrictive abortion laws currently in place across the South, including in Texas, saying he made this happen by appointing a conservative majority to the Supreme Court. She said she would sign into law legislation to “restore reproductive freedoms” that also respects individual religious beliefs.

“One does not have to abandon their faith or deeply held beliefs to agree that the government should not be telling her what to do,” Harris said. “We know faith and freedom can coexist.”

Harris cast a second Trump term as a threat to American democracy, saying that the former president planned to use law enforcement to round up protesters, use the Justice Department to go after political enemies and become dictator from day one .

“In this moment, we face a choice between two very different visions for our nation. One focused on the future, the other focused on the past,” Harris said. “We are working to build up, not tear down.”

“We are not going back,” Harris said. “We all here remember what those four years were like. And today, we were given yet another reminder.”

Harris started her Houston visit Wednesday at a political fundraiser for the Harris Victory Fund just before visiting with Sigma Gamma Rho.

The fundraising event was organized in four days, bringing in $2.5 million, according to a campaign official. The event’s target was $1 million. U.S. Reps. Al Green and Lizzie Fletcher and Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo were in attendance. Sima Ladjevardian, chair of the National Women’s Business Council, introduced Harris. Ladjevardian ran unsuccessfully against U.S. Rep. Dan Crenshaw in 2020 and has organized fundraisers for the Biden-Harris campaign this cycle

Harris spoke briefly at the fundraiser, telling the audience of donors that “building up the middle class will be a defining goal of my presidency." She warned that Trump represented a different, darker vision for the country, urging attendees: “we are not fighting against something. We are fighting for something.”

“We know how much is at stake,” Harris said.

Harris also alluded to her past as the California Attorney General and district attorney where she “took on perpetrators of all types.”

“I know Donald Trump’s type,” Harris said, alluding to his conviction last May of 34 counts of falsifying business records in New York court.
