I think this is a perfect chance for me to discuss my friendship with "Atharv," one of my closest buddies. I really appreciate you for giving me this chance to tell you about my friend Atharv.

How did you meet?/ How long have you two known each other?

He and I met in school. I still remember we shared meals, played football in the evenings on the neighbourhood playground, stood shoulder to shoulder in times of problems , attended the same school, and assisted one another with homework and studies. We always found solace in one another. I first saw him in the school cafeteria one day while eating lunch. It has been over ten years since we became pals.

How do you spend time together?

Atharv and I enjoy discussing our private matters; he is the only one with whom I can disclose anything. We frequently visit new areas, play cricket, see films, discuss politics, and exchange ideas about our future careers. He occasionally advises me on handling problems and stress, and he frequently tells me that “every cloud has a silver lining, buddy.”

And explain why you like this person.

The closest friends never separate and grow closer with time. Atharv has already demonstrated his willingness to stand by me no matter what and to get me out of any sticky circumstance. Someone can only have a friend like him once or twice in their lifetime. He has unquestionably had an enormous impact on my life and will always be my best buddy. And for that reason alone, I think highly of him and value our connection.

He has indisputably impacted my life and will always be my closest buddy. I appreciate his friendship, and I admire him because of this.

Even though a person may have many friends at different phases of their life, not all of them are the best friends. The closest buddy ought to have a particular set of qualities. Here, I will discuss Mishka, a very dear friend of mine. She is among the most straightforward and sweetest individuals I have ever met.

How did you meet?

Our friendship dates back nearly ten years. When I was eleven years old, my father relocated to Jaipur, where I currently live. He relocated to this city in order to switch his company. I got to know the lovely local people after enrolling in the nearby school. I eventually discovered that, despite some invisible obstacles separating us, my thoughts and Mishka’s thoughts were quite similar. I learned that she and her family have relocated to this city recently. Since not many people were known and talked to in the neighbourhood, Mishka and I ended up being together.

How long have you two known each other?

It was ten years ago when we first met. Although we had several arguments throughout the years where we felt like our friendship would break, they were always resolved peacefully. One thing that made our bond strong was good communication. We only believe in communicating our issues whenever we have any.

We collaborate on a wide range of subjects. We assist one another in our academic efforts, share our thoughts, and take notes before, during, and after academic tests because we are in the same grade. We go out on our bicycles during the evening time or on holidays. Furthermore, we both love going to the movies in theatres. Apart from this, we are fond of movies, so whenever we see an advertisement for a new film, we plan to watch that movie in our nearby theatre.

And explain why you like this person?

She came forward to help me when I had problems and felt alone at school. We didn't get along primarily because of our different cultures, even though the local kids had first welcomed me because I was from another state. Then Mishka reached out to assist and stayed at my side. She is meticulous about several things, and as a direct result of her influence, I have been performing well on my tests.

She is more adept at discerning right from wrong. She stops me before I do anything needless. I'm lucky to have her as my best friend.

Answer: It is legitimate to suggest that friends can be anything other than "friends" until they are fully "wrapped up" with essential attributes like affection, mutual admiration, honesty, loyalty, and reliability. Friends are like extraordinary "gifts" to individuals. Because of this, another essential quality of friends is their readiness to stand by the people they see as friends during good times and bad.

Answer: Family members are and always should be more important to people since they have "blood relationships" that cannot be refuted or destroyed by any authority in this world. Additionally, when we are in danger or need of something, our relatives usually come to our help first. Consequently, family members often have a greater understanding of the "needs" of those they consider to be "family" than do their friends. However, certain friends become part of our family only.

Question: What do you think causes friendships to break up?

Answer: Friendships can cease or fade for a variety of common causes, such as distance, shifting circumstances, and a lack of communication. The lack of mutual respect and trust may be more important, as without them, it would be extremely difficult to build and preserve a good connection between the parties. Friendships can occasionally end due to backbiting, arrogance, and backstabbing for little reward.

A friend is a word that fills you with mirth every time you envisage a face that is close to you and the bond that you share with that person. I have been fortunate enough to have some amazing friends all my life till now, with each one of them being unique and special. The friend that I choose to talk about is my best friend, Kriz. I can safely say that he is one of the most virtuous, jocund and, at the same time, highly sensitive souls I ever met.

I vividly remember the day when I met him for the first time and that too with pangs of laughter at some random, not-so-funny discussion. That was how we started bonding well. At times, you come across people who vibe with you and resonate at the same frequency. However, Kriz is a person who is almost congruent with me in all aspects. Right from laughing at the same jokes and holding a similar viewpoint over things to having a philosophical conversation, we do it all. Over and above all, he is an amazing soul and if ‘stay firm to the ground’ had a face, it would be Kriz’s face. Such a humble human being is difficult to find.

Kriz and I have always stood in solidarity with each other in the darkest of times and having such a perspicacious person is bliss. I, perhaps, can’t ever share a similar energy with anyone else and that’s why we are best friends.

IELTS Speaking: Best Friend

In IELTS speaking, we are often asked to talk about the topic of friendship because it is common to all people in all cultures. It is something that everyone can say something about, so we often encounter it in this part of the exam.

Today, I am going to show you how to talk about a best friend . I’ll give you some advice on vocabulary, grammar, and some tips about how to answer questions effectively.

Best Friend for IELTS Speaking

When it comes to the issue of friendship, this could arise in any part of the IELTS speaking test. In part one, you might be asked an easy and general question like:

How often do you see your friends?

In part two, you could be given a cue card that says something like:

Describe your best friend.

In part three, the question would be a little more complicated, requiring more consideration in order to answer it fully:

Is it better to have friends that always agree with you or should people look for friends with different opinions?

As you can see, these require quite different types of answer. We’ll look at sample answers later on, but first let’s explore some useful vocabulary.

Best Friend Vocabulary

As always, when it comes to IELTS it is important to use vocabulary accurately and that means don’t just find ridiculously obscure words from the dictionary. Use words that are appropriate to the topic and to your chosen answer.

If you look up “best friend” in a thesaurus , for example, you might find expressions like “soul mate” that do not actually have the same meaning. The phrase “bosom buddy” is also a little weird and outdated, too.

Instead, choose language that is relevant, important, and modern. Since this is the speaking test, you can be a little informal. People often say “besties” or “BFFs” now. I have a whole article on vocabulary about friendship vocabulary here .

Remember that you need to be able to talk about the nature of friendship and why people became best friends. You might want to use some of these expressions:

Grammar about Friendship

People always seem to love learning vocabulary, but actually it is incredibly important to learn about grammar, too. If you don’t get the grammar right, the vocabulary won’t necessarily make sense.

When it comes to friendship, grammar can actually be very important because it is necessary to understand when something happened. Let’s take a few examples of different tenses to show how significant the change in meaning can be:

Of course, it is not just the statement of friendship that you need to think about when talking about a best friend. You could talk about many things, such as first meeting that person, doing things together, going through life experiences, describing their personality, and so on. All of this requires careful consideration of verb tense.

Here’s an example paragraph. Note the verb tenses used:

I first met Suzie in 1998, when we were both about twelve years old. We immediately got along well with one another and started hanging out. Of course, it’s tough being that age and so it really helped to have such a close friend as we went through those awkward teenage years together. Later, we went to different unis and then got jobs in different cities, so we weren’t so close, but we still chatted on the phone and over the internet, and we meet up regularly even now. I’d still call her my best friend even though we don’t see each other that much and I expect she will be my bestie even twenty years from now.

Note the range of verb tenses here. In the beginning, it was mostly past simple (I first met; we were both, etc) but later it switched to the present simple (we meet up; we don’t see, etc). I have even managed to incorporate the future by saying “I expect she will be…”

Sample Answers

Let’s look at some possible answers to the questions I posed above.

I guess I see them about three times a week on average. We play football once a week and have beers together maybe twice a week. Of course, it depends on things like work and family. At this age, you don’t see people as much as you’d want, but generally I’m pretty lucky.

Well, it is certainly more tempting to have friends that always agree with you because then you’re unlikely to fall out with them over silly arguments. However, I do think it’s important to be friends with people that challenge your preconceptions and offer the possibility of personal growth. Even if someone is just willing to play devil’s advocate , it’s quite good to be able to have those in-depth conversations that encourage debate and allow us to learn something new. So I don’t know which is better, exactly, but probably the latter of the two options.

Note that answers for part three should be more developed than those for part one. You don’t need to talk for ages, but you should explain yourself thoroughly.

Final Thoughts

When it comes to the IELTS topic of best friends, you really should be prepared to discuss yours and even to talk about the topic in general. This doesn’t require any particularly difficult or technical vocabulary, but you should have some topic-specific words and phrases and you should be familiar with English verb tenses so that you can give good answers. I would strongly recommend that you practise describing some of your friends in advance so that you are familiar with the sort of specific language needed to talk about those particular people. You’ll soon find that each person requires different vocabulary because of their different personalities and lifestyles.

• Vocabulary Tips for Answering this IELTS Cue Card Question (Describe your best friend):

A ‘ cue card ‘ is the topic card that you are given at the beginning of IELTS Speaking Part 2 . It is a piece of paper with your discussion topic written on it. 

Because you only have a minute to get yourself ready, you should take notes as soon as you receive the cue card, using the provided paper and pencil.

You are not given the option to change the subject, and you must speak about it regardless of how much or little knowledge you have about it.

After one minute of preparation, the examiner will tell you to begin your speech, and you must make the most of the two minutes available.

The examiner may then have some follow-up questions about your speech, to which you will have to respond.

Describe your best friend

Guidelines to answer the question:

You should say

• Who this person is
• How you met this person
• How often you meet each other

And explain why you consider this person as your best and closest friend. 

• Think of a friend that you would have a lot to say about. It does not necessarily have to be your actual best friend, but a friend you do and share many things with. To make it interesting, it could be a friend whom you had a unique story to talk about. 
• Make sure not to change your choice before you start taking notes. Any other friend is acceptable. The more important thing is you will be able to explain and justify your reasons coherently. 
• Start taking notes on who this person is and the things that the two of you enjoy doing. Elaborate on how often and when you usually meet. Do not write sentences. Simply write keywords and phrases. 
• Remember to use a wide range of words and phrases to make your speech more enticing. Make use of complex grammar structures too. This will help you get a high mark.
• Make sure you will be able to understand your handwriting. What you write on the paper does not matter to the examiner. 
• While talking about your topic, take a look at your notes. It is okay. You will not lose marks for looking at them.

Sample Responses — “ Describe Your Best Friend “

“Off the top of my head, when it comes to my closest friend, I’d say it’s Mae. Mae is my best buddy for a variety of reasons. To begin with, she truly respects and loves me for who I am. Second, despite her busy schedule, she is always prepared to provide a sympathetic ear whenever I am experiencing difficulties or feeling demotivated.

We have a long history together. We’ve been friends since our freshman year in university. I recall meeting her for the first time in a grammar class. At first, I mistook her for a chatty, ungraceful young lady. However, as I got to know Mae better, I found she was a genuinely sweet person with whom I share a lot of things in common.

Mae and I are polar opposites in terms of personality. I am irritable and reserved, but she is very friendly and patient. Mae’s communication skills are one of her most admirable personality attributes in my opinion. She can naturally start a conversation with anyone she meets for the first time. Despite our differences in personalities, we agree on a number of things, including marriage, employment, and life perspectives.

We used to hang out every other week when we were still in college, typically visiting local cafes or food booths near our school. Now that we’ve graduated and are both busy with work, we don’t get to spend as much time together as we’d like. Since I only see her every other month, we always have a lot to catch up on.

Follow-up Question 1:

Do you think you and Mae would have been best friends if you have the same personality? 

“Absolutely! I think that somehow, we meet the people we meet for a reason, and Mae is one of those people whom I have learned a lot from. She has taught me to be more patient above anything else, and that’s something I am really thankful for. I think that even if we have the same personality, we would have clicked as much as we did.”

Follow-up Question 2:

 How long do you think the two of you would stay this close?

“As much as possible, I want to stay close and in contact with her until we grow old and have our own families. She is someone I want my kids to know because for sure, I’d be sharing with them the story of our friendship. But we really don’t know what’s going to happen in the future and for now, I will cherish each and every moment we get to spend together.”

“Mike is without a doubt my best friend by every criterion I can think of! His sincere and bright smiles are worth a million dollars! I once heard that if you can sit silently for an extended period of time with a buddy and still feel comfortable doing so, that friend is most likely your best friend, and Mike is precisely that.

We’ve been friends for over seven years, and I first met him in college. I’ve enjoyed his company in every way since our friendship began. He stays by my side through thick and thin, and he’s always the one person with whom I can share anything. He is an excellent listener and one of the most gifted individuals I have ever got to know and come across. He never hesitates to express to me the truth, and he never corrects me when I’m wrong!

Our friendship began and has remained strong due to our shared interests. We often discuss the books we’ve read, analyze various forms of literature and media, and appreciate fine craftsmanship. We bond over our mutual love for computer games and enjoy playing them together regularly. Currently, we are learning together and pursuing a course in digital maketing. Additionally, we collaborate on a vlog that we both deeply enjoy producing.

You mentioned earlier that the two of you are running a vlog together, can you tell me more about it? 

“Sure. We’re up-and-coming vloggers and have created quite a few vlogs already. We started over a year ago, and our content primarily focuses on book reviews and media critiques. Currently, our most-viewed video is a review of ‘The Shining,’ with around 300,000 views. We have about 12,500 subscribers on our channel and hope to gain more in the future. We’re also considering expanding our content to include simple DIY projects to appeal to a broader audience.”

Follow-up Question 2: 

What other activities do the two want to try in the future?

“There are still lots of things we plan to do together. We have talked about traveling to Africa and exploring the wildlife there. We’ve done our research beforehand and when we finally have the resources, we will definitely go there. We’ve also talked about skydiving and other extreme activities. These are just plans for now but we are absolutely saving to make it a reality. It’s one thing both of us are really looking forward to. “

Describe your best friend.

You should say:

And explain why s/he is your best friend.

Model Answer 1: Stuart is undoubtedly my best friend according to every definition I can fathom about the best buddy! He is 24 years old and a handsome fellow. His smile (both genuine and rouge one) is worth million dollars! Once I heard that if you can stay silent for a long time with a friend and yet feel comfortable being so, probably s/he is your best friend and that’s exactly what Stuart is.

We are friends for more than 7 years and I met him in my college days. After our friendship began, I enjoy his company from every perspective. He stays with me through thick and thin and is always the one person whom I can share anything and everything. He is a good listener and one of the most talented persons I have ever met. He never hesitates to tell me the truth in an unapologetically blunt manner and never hesitates to stop me when I am wrong!

Our friendship started and remained so tight mostly because of our common interest. We often discuss the books we read, criticise the writings or movies we watch and praise a beautiful piece of artwork. We are both interested in computer games and we often play computer games together.

These days we are learning Spanish together and taking our graphics designing course together. Whenever I rent or download a movie, I invite him to watch it on my 3D TV. Apart from that, we are maintaining a blog together and that’s something we enjoy to a great extent.

Sometimes I share things with him that I cannot share with anyone else, and I get advice without being judged. This is the best part of our friendship and probably the main reasons our friendship is still intact and strong. He celebrates my successes genuinely, we know each other in and out and we can talk about everything no matter how nonsense it is.  

Sample Answer 2:  Working as an executive for a multinational corporation like Samsung is really interesting but sometimes boredom occupies me as well. But having a simple conversation with Natasha is encouraging indeed. Now I will describe the relationship with her, who happens to be my best friend. I would like to thank you for the opportunity to talk about my best friend. 

It is really tough to manage a job here in Mumbai and this is more difficult for a woman like me. Fortunately, I managed the job and I am lucky to have it. I have been playing the role of an executive at Samsung India for the past three years. I met Natasha on the very first day of my office. She is a smart girl and gradually we discovered that we belong to the same batch but in different educational institutions. We also have some common friends as it is found on the social networking sites. Besides, she took her residence near the office which is a five-minutes’ walk from my home.     

I joined the office in 2014 after experiencing a lot of challenges. In fact, getting the job was not easier. I had to attend several interviews and tests. Finally, I was chosen for the post when I was able to demonstrate my skills and expertise for the position I applied for. Later, I came to know that Natasha also joined at the same time. Besides, she also had her desk opposite of mine. With some small chats, we started our friendship. Gradually, the friendship turned into deeper and she became my best friend. Recently, we have started moving to the office together. Often we exchange our lunch and help each other to prepare presentations and more other official tasks. Most of the times, we love to watch movies at our homes on the off days. 

When we are at the office, we work as a team. In fact, the authority has made us a team based on our mutual relationship. But sometimes we also have to experience some disagreement over different issues. We make decisions based on logic and then agree to the disagreement. Further, we together make plans to be implemented by the authority, check the sales reports, take care of the other reporting issues etc. But in most of the cases, I am responsible for the preparation of the presentation with newer ideas to be implemented in the market while she is responsible for presenting them before the authority in the meeting. We are doing well and growing together. Recently, both of us have been promoted to the senior executive of the corporation for our outstanding performance. 

Natasha is my best friend. In fact, she is an intelligent girl and made me too. Before meeting with her, I was not that much smart as I am today. In each and every aspect, she helped me and taught me the things I need to learn in handling real-life aspects. Before entering the job of an executive, she was in a sales team and learnt about the professional life. Accordingly, she has set her goals and also helped me a lot to set mine. I am, really glad that to have her as my friend. Moreover, with the passage of time, we started sharing our sorrows and joys and the friendship of us also touched our families. Now both the families are quite familiar and maintaining a healthy social relation like us. 

Model Answer 3: This is absolutely a great opportunity to explain my friendship with Erik, who is my best friend and a compassionate person. I must say I am thankful to you for the opportunity you have given me to talk about my best friend Erik.

I believe friends make our life more meaningful and enjoyable. And some mates step forward to teach us how special they are in our life. Erik is such a friend and I consider him my best buddy.

I know him from my school days. We went school together, played football in the evening, stood should to shoulder in adversity, shared our meals, helped each other in our studies and over the time, we became the birds of a feather. We still are inseparable and find comfort even in our silence, which accordingly to many a symbol of a great bond.

We have recently finished our graduation – I am from Science major while Eric is from Arts. We love to talk about our personal issues; he is the only person I can share absolutely anything and everything. We often play chess, enjoy movies, visit different places, we debate on our political differences and share our thoughts about our career plans. There are times when he advise me how to deal with obstacles and stresses and he often says that “hole tight, buddy, every cloud has a silver lining.

Best friends always stick together and become more like brothers than friends. I am absolutely convinced that Erik has already proven that he will support me in any way possible and help me out from any grave situation. He is the kind of a friend someone can have only once or twice in life. No doubt his influence in my life is paramount and he will always be my best friend.

I am truly fortunate to have a friend at school who has an exceptional sense of empathy. She has an uncanny ability to sense when I’m feeling down and always knows what to say to lift my spirits. Her capacity for understanding and compassion has helped me through some challenging times, making her an indispensable part of my life at school.

Sample 2: Having A Best Friend

My closest companion from my schooling years is a real intellectual. She’s the type of individual who constantly has her nose buried in a book, always eager to quench her thirst for knowledge. Our friendship was largely built on our shared love for learning. We’d spend hours discussing the most recent book we’d read or debating different theories. Her knack for absorbing knowledge and her curiosity truly sets her apart.

Sample 3: Having A Best Friend

One of my companions from my school days was quite a tech enthusiast. He had an incredible understanding of computers and was always the go-to person whenever someone faced an issue with their systems. Our friendship was cemented by countless instances of him helping me troubleshoot my computer problems. His technical acumen was truly admirable, and it was through our interactions that I developed a keen interest in technology as well.

In my case, it’s slightly different. I moved around a lot during my school years due to my parents’ jobs. So, I found it challenging to maintain strong, lasting friendships. Each school I went to, I made friends, but then we had to part ways. It was bittersweet, but it did teach me to be adaptable and resilient. So, I wouldn’t say I had a best friend, but a series of brief yet meaningful friendships.

Sample 10: Not Having Closed Friends

At school, I was often misunderstood due to my introverted personality. People tended to mistake my quiet demeanor for aloofness, which made it hard for me to form close bonds. It seemed as though no one really liked me enough to become my best friend. While this was a challenging experience, it also taught me a lot about empathy and the importance of not judging a book by its cover.

Well, the person I’d like to talk to you about is a very good friend of mine, Mai. She must be one of the nicest  and most down-to-earth individuals I know.

If I were to describe how she looks I would say Mai is a very gorgeous and charming girl who always attracts a  lot of attention from men. She is much taller than me so it’s kind of embarrassing standing next to her to be  honest. Mai also has straight brown hair and deep, dark brown eyes. Like most teenagers, she pays a lot of  attention to her appearance and likes dressing in the latest and most snazzy fashion. I don’t think I’ve ever  seen her in a plain old T- shirt or jeans.

Anyway, we’ve basically known each other since forever because we were in the same class from high school  through to college. You know, the first time I met her, she left a deep impression on me because on the first  day at school, I got lost while trying to find my classroom and she was my saviour . Coincidently , we were  arranged by the teacher to become desk-mates.

And with regards to why she became my bestie , well, I guess the main reason is that we really hit it off right  from the start, and we also see eye to eye on a lot of things such as fashion, sport and even video games. She is  my closest friend so I feel like we can share everything together, from schoolwork to our love lives . The thing I  admire most about Mai is that she is really protective and likes to look after people.

As a normal human being, however, Mai also has her shortcomings . She’s never on time, and is sometimes  quite absent-minded and inconsiderate and that makes people think she never takes things seriously. But I  don’t think this is true. She has a strong sense of responsibility and I know that I can always rely on her. For me,  friendship is the most important thing in the world and I am proud to say that I have such a loyal and helpful friend – she’s really one in a million .

1- I prefer to spend my time with 1 best friend instead of lots of friends as spending time with a best friend could be more comforting and I’ll have more convenience and I can share my open and candid thoughts with my best friend while I’m accompanying my best friend I could have a shoulder to cry on which is a relieving. 2- As time passed I definitely lost touch with many of my childhood friends we kind of drifted apart everyone of us found their own way and just parted like this. 3- When I hang out with my friends our favorite activities is probably window shopping and we pass by different shops in the mall and we also enjoy going to the movies together to see the newest film and have our own deep conversation afterwards we rate the movie sometime we argue and at other time we agree and that’s the fun of it. 4- Yeah it is pretty common in my country to visit friend at their houses I’d say the number 1 place that friend hang out in is houses as houses are have privacy and in my country indoor meetings are more popular than than the outdoors ones.

Jara is a very good friend of mine for some reason. He is the person I admire the most for his personality and friendly attitude. She is helpful and likes to hang out with people. I first met him at my university in London. She was the most interesting character in the class. I miss those days. Now he lives in London, and I live in Australia. We sometimes talk online.

Well, if you ask me about my best friend, I would say Rayn is a person who holds my heart as a truly good friend. He is my best friend. I first met him in elementary school when he was my classmate. It’s been eight years we’ve been living in different places, but so far our bonds are the same as a friend and getting better with time.

I’m going to talk about Hazel, who is one of my closest friends ever.

Actually, Hazel is her English name; her Vietnamese name is Ly. But I’ll use Hazel because I know she likes that. She’s one year younger than me. We used to live next door , but now we live in the same flat.

I want to talk about Hazel for several reasons.

First, she’s very kind. She’s willing to give others a hand , and she always stands by me whenever I need help. Last year, I had a high fever and had to be hospitalised for a week. She took a week off to take care of me.

Second, she’s a patient person. Unlike me who can get angry very easily, Hazel’s able to stay calm in almost every situation. In terms of being patient, I am learning a lot from her. I remember last week, both of us had to wait for another friend for nearly two hours because he got up late and got stuck in traffic . During those two hours, I kind of lost my temper and constantly complained . I was pacing back and forth , while Hazel was just sitting there reading a book. At first, I was really angry and wondered why she was so relaxed in that situation, but afterwards, she said to me: ‘You need to learn how to enjoy every minute of your life’. Then, I realised that I was wasting my time doing pointless things , and from that moment, I knew that I needed to learn to control my temper so that I could enjoy little things in life.

I’m so lucky to have a friend like her.

So, if I had to talk about one of my best friends, it would have to be Hazel.

Chị ơi trong bài viết văn mình không viết tắt nhé. Ví dụ “But I’ll use Hazel because I know she likes that.” thì phải đổi I’ll thành I will đầy đủ chị nhé. Cả câu “She’s one year younger than me.” phải đổi she’s thành she is chị nhé. Tại em đi thi người ta thấy cái lỗi đấy thế là trừ điểm luôn chị ạ. :)))

Who is your best friend? 

I have many friends, but my best friend is Gautam Patel. We have been friends since childhood. We understand each other in many ways. He always has my back I have his. We share plenty of common habits like waking up early in the morning or watching Hollywood movies.

But more importantly we have common mindset and views.

Every day when we both are free from work, we meet at our decided place and have tea in the evening. We also go to the nearby places in my hometown every month end. At least once in a year we plan tour outside my hometown.

A I told you we have same habit. The most common habit we share is we both are the ultimate lover of tea.so when we go out, we chat with having tea.

Occasionally we go to watch movies in theatre. Sometimes we play cricket and other games.

There is a saying that friend is in need is friend indeed. So, I consider a friend a real friend when he was there when the need arises. I expect it from my friend, and I am also ready to support and help my friends when they are in trouble. He should be Sincere and friendly.

A good sense of humor is an additional quality a friend should have.

Friends and family both are important part of our lives. There cannot be any comparison between these two. Family’s importance can never be fathomed because it is the primary source of unconditional love and care. But on the other hand, friends also bring happiness to the person’s life. We can share many thoughts and to our friends which we cannot share to family.

Both friends and family are the essential part of our life.

Certainly , age is a significant factor. Most of the friendships are seen in the people from the same age.  If friends are of same age, they can have more things in common.

But that does not mean that people from different age cannot be friends. There may be some limitations but people from different age can be great friends.

→ Honestly speaking, I would say those who take responsibility for their actions would make great friends because they must be very trustworthy . On the other hand, I would never, not even in a million years , be friends with a stingy person.

→ Like everyone else, I do make mistakes once in a while but I believe that I have tried my best to be a supportive and trustworthy friend who they can always confide in .

→ I have a few friends who are studying and working abroad. We try to catch up with each other once in a while but it isn’t easy. We used to be much closer but now we are slowly growing apart .

4. Have you ever contacted your friends from primary school?/ How important childhood friends are?

→ Honestly the thought of reaching out to my childhood friends never occurs to me. Simply because I think we no longer share any similar interest. To me, childhood friends are like good old memories that we look back on occasionally.

5. What is the most important thing about friendship?

→ For me, it would be trust because without trust, there will be no friendship. As friends, we must always have each other’s back, even in the toughest time . It is hard for people to go back to being friends again once losing trust in each other.

6. Which do you think would be more important at school: friends or teachers?

→ Well, having great teachers can provide one with good learning experience and influence, while friends are those who stay through thick and thin and create valuable memories together with you. I would say both are inseparable parts of a student’s study at school.

Tackling the Personal Essay: Tips from a Notre Dame Admissions Counselor

If you ask almost any admissions professional which part of reading applications is their favorite, it’s likely their answer will be a resounding, “The essays!” Essays are where we get to engage with students’ hopes, fears, dreams, life experiences (and more) in their authentic voice. We are humbled every year getting to “meet” all the incredible young people who are applying to Notre Dame through their essays!

Yet, writing an essay introducing yourself can be really hard. Maybe you’ve never done so before, or you haven’t for a really long time, and often it will seem really awkward. That’s OK!

It feels hard because it is–or at least it can be.

Don’t worry, though! I love sharing tips with applicants about the personal essay that will hopefully help you see it as an opportunity to learn more about yourself and then share that discernment with the colleges who will be fortunate enough to receive your application!

Getting started

The easiest way to get started is by simply brainstorming! I love using pen and paper (I’m anti-pencil, though I realize that may be a divisive opinion). The physical materials help me feel less constrained by technology, though you may find the technology comforting.

Use bulleted lists or short phrases to capture ideas, life experiences, values, and more. Every day, set aside five minutes to write about yourself or your college discernment process without stopping to think. Where does your mind lead you when you get out of your own way?

Ask your friends and family to help you identify values that are important to you or things that make you.. well… you! Often it’s easier to highlight and say nice things about someone else than it is ourselves, so lean on those who know you well!

Group these collective nuggets to see if any patterns or stories emerge. Do you see any prompts on your application that align with your brainstorming? The Common Application, for example, has seven to choose from, including a make your own prompt! Start writing on one that makes you pause, as that means you might have something to say! Don’t be afraid to go longer than your word count or to use an atypical form of writing.

While that specific level of chaos may not work for you, I always recommend staying away from sentences and avoiding constraining yourself while writing because…

Editing is more than spelling and grammar!

When we want to “edit” something, it can be tempting to start–and just as quickly end–with spell check. (Yes, your essay should have proper spelling and grammar, but please know we are not reading your essay with a red pen “grading” every single comma.)

What is far more important–though also far more intimidating–is your essay’s content.

What really improved my writing actually had nothing to do with me–rather, it was finding trusted editors to give me honest and constructive feedback. While it’s tempting to have your best friend or family member read your essay, I’ve found my best editors possess a strong rhetorical mind, ask thoughtful questions, and are not afraid to tell me when something isn’t working the way I think it is.

This may describe someone close to you, but maybe not. Maybe there’s a classmate or teacher who you have always admired, even if you don’t know them that well. Editing is an incredibly vulnerable process; don’t be afraid to lean into that vulnerability! I promise that a strong editor who works with your voice and style–rather than rewriting your essay how they would have–will help bring forth an authentic essay you didn’t even realize you could write!

Speaking of, authenticity will lead to your best essay

The best application essay is the one that helps us get to know you. Period. Full stop. Any topic can be a good topic, any topic can be a bad topic. At the end of the day, the topic you choose to write about is only a gateway to help us get to know you!

Let’s think of it another way. Say you printed out your essay at your school, without your name or other identifying information on it, and someone who knows you picked it up and read it. If they said, “I bet this is (your name)’s essay,” I can already tell you’re on the right track. There’s something truly you about it!
