టెడ్డీ బేర్ మ‌ర్డ‌ర్స్‌...

న‌గ‌రంలో వ‌రుస‌గా అమ్మాయిలు హ‌త్య‌కు గుర‌వుతుంటారు. వారిని ఓ టెడ్డీబేర్ స‌హాయంతో సైకో కిల్ల‌ర్ హ‌త‌మారుస్తున్నాడ‌ని పోలీసుల ఇన్వేస్టిగేష‌న్‌లో తేలుతుంది. ఆ హంత‌కుడిని ప‌ట్టుకునేందుకు ఇన్‌స్పెక్ట‌ర్ సాయికుమార్ (సాయికుమార్‌) రంగంలోకి దిగుతాడు. భ‌గీరా అనే యాప్ కార‌ణంగా ఈ అమ్మాయిలంద‌రూ హ‌త్య‌కు గుర‌వుతున్నార‌ని సాయికుమార్ తెలుసుకుంటాడు.

మ‌రోవైపు వేద‌వ‌ల్లి, రిణు, ప‌ల్ల‌వి, అలియాల‌ను వివిధ పేర్ల‌తో ప్ర‌భు (ప్ర‌భుదేవా) ప్రేమిస్తాడు. అత‌డు ప్రేమించిన ఆ అమ్మాయిలు అంద‌రూ క‌నిపించ‌కుండా పోతారు. వారి అదృశ్యం వెనుక భ‌గీరా (ప్ర‌భుదేవా) హ‌స్తం ఉందా? భ‌గీరా, ప్ర‌భు ఒకే పోలిక‌ల‌తో ఉండ‌టానికి కార‌ణ‌మేమిటి?

సైకో కిల్ల‌ర్ ఫార్ములా...

సైకో కిల్ల‌ర్ క‌థాంశాల‌తో తెలుగు, త‌మిళంతో పాటు వివిధ భాష‌ల్లో ప‌లు సినిమాలు రూపొందాయి. భాష‌లు, హీరోలు, ద‌ర్శ‌కులు వేరైనా ఈ సినిమాల కాన్సెప్ట్‌లు దాదాపు ఒకే రీతిలో సాగుతుంటాయి. త‌మ ఫ్యామిలీ, స‌న్నిహితుల‌కు జ‌రిగిన అన్యాయాన్ని స‌హించ‌లేని ఓ వ్య‌క్తి సైకోగా మారి హ‌త్య‌లు చేయ‌డం, దాని వెనుక ఫ్లాష్‌బ్యాక్ ..ఇలా ఈ క‌థ‌ల‌కు ఓ టెంప్లేట్ ఫార్మెట్ ఫిక్స్ అయిపోయింది.

భ‌గీరా కూడా ఆ కోవలో సాగే రొటీన్ సైకో కిల్ల‌ర్ మూవీ. ప్రేమ పేరుతో అమ్మాయిలు చేసే మోసాన్ని స‌హించ‌లేని ఓ యువ‌కుడు సైకోగా మారి హ‌త్య‌లు చేయ‌డమ‌నే పాయింట్‌తో ద‌ర్శ‌కుడు ఆధిక్ ర‌విచంద్ర‌న్ భ‌గీరా క‌థ‌ను రాసుకున్నాడు. ఫ్యామిలీ ఎమోష‌న్స్‌, కామెడీతో పాటు రొమాన్స్ దండిగానే ఉండేలా చూసుకుంటూ యూత్‌ఫుల్ ఎంట‌ర్‌టైన‌ర్‌గా ఈసినిమాను తెర‌కెక్కించాడు.

గంద‌ర‌గోళం...

భ‌గీరా ఫ‌స్ట్ హాఫ్ మొత్తం ప్ర‌భుదేవా మారువేషాల్లో ఒక్కో అమ్మాయిని ట్రాప్ చేసే స‌న్నివేశాల‌తో న‌డిపించారు ద‌ర్శ‌కుడు. వివిధ గెట‌ప్‌లు, డిఫ‌రెంట్ క్యారెక్ట‌ర్స్ ఒక‌దాని త‌ర్వాత మ‌రొక‌టి ఎంట్రీ ఇస్తూ తిక‌మ‌క‌పెడ‌తాయి. ఏ క్యారెక్ట‌ర్ ఎందుకు వ‌స్తుందో...భ‌గీరా ఎందుకు హ‌త్య‌లు చేస్తున్నాడో అంతుప‌ట్ట‌దు.

ఈ చిక్కుముడుల‌న్నింటికి సెకండాఫ్‌లో విప్పుకుంటూ వెళ్లాడు డైరెక్ట‌ర్‌. ఆ హ‌త్య‌ల‌కు రీజ‌న్ అంటూ అన్న‌ద‌మ్ముల బాండింగ్ పేరుతో నైంటీస్ కాలం నాటి రొటీన్ ఫ్లాష్‌బ్యాక్ ఎపిసోడ్‌తో ఓపిక‌కు ప‌రీక్ష పెట్టాడు డైరెక్ట‌ర్‌. క‌థ‌కు కీల‌క‌మైన ఆ ఎపిసోడ్‌ను ఆస‌క్తిక‌రంగా ప్ర‌జెంట్ చేయ‌లేక‌పోయాడు.

ఎన్నో సినిమాల్లో చూసిన కామ‌న్ పాయింట్‌తో ఈ ఫ్లాష్‌బ్యాక్‌ సాగుతుంది. క్లైమాక్స్ కూడా ఎక్స్‌పెక్ట్ చేసేలానే ఉంటుంది. సింపుల్ పాయింట్‌ను రివ‌ర్స్ స్క్రీన్‌ప్లేతో కొత్త‌గా చెప్పాల‌ని అనుకున్న ద‌ర్శ‌కుడి ప్ర‌య‌త్నం పూర్తిగా బెడిసికొట్టింది.

నెగెటివ్ షేడ్స్‌లో...

ఈ సినిమాలో నెగెటివ్ షేడ్స్‌తో కూడిన క్యారెక్ట‌ర్‌లో ప్ర‌భుదేవా న‌టించాడు. క‌థానుగుణంగా వివిధ గెట‌ప్‌ల‌లో క‌నిపించాడు. ప‌స‌లేని క‌థ కావ‌డంతో ఈ సినిమా కోసం అత‌డు ప‌డిన శ్ర‌మ మొత్తం వృథాగా మారింది. శ్రీరామ్ క్యారెక్ట‌ర్ లెంగ్త్ త‌క్కువే. ఈ సినిమాలో మొత్తం ఏడుగురు హీరోయిన్లు ఉన్నా ఒక్క అమైరా ద‌స్తూర్ త‌ప్ప మిగిలిన వారంద‌రూ గెస్ట్ రోల్స్‌లోనే న‌టించారు.

Bagheera Movie Review- ప్రేక్ష‌కుల‌కు టార్చ‌ర్‌...

ప్రేక్ష‌కుల్ని టార్చ‌ర్‌కు గురిచేసే సైకో కిల్ల‌ర్ సినిమా ఇది. ఫ‌స్ట్ సీన్ నుంచి ఎండింగ్ వ‌ర‌కు గంద‌ర‌గోళంగా సాగుతుంది. క‌థ నుంచి హీరో క్యారెక్ట‌రైజేష‌న్‌తో పాటు అత‌డి గెట‌ప్‌లు, మిగిలిన పాత్ర‌లు అన్ని సహనానికి పరీక్ష పెడతాయి.

'Bagheera' movie review: An eccentric Prabhu Deva shines through a chaotic script

Surgically analysing the various ideologically problematic things with Bagheera would be too obvious as it has all been so thickly laid out. On top of that, with the climax, director Adhik Ravichandran saves us the trouble by letting a female character spout counterpoints to every problematic thing so jubilantly espoused all through the film up until that point. This glaringly obvious insurance for the sake of goodwill hardly works because the film has plenty of other fundamental problems as well, and some—weirdly enough—are rather entertaining.

Most of these bizarre, entertaining issues can be seen in the early part of the film. For starters, there is a teddy bear that goes around killing women. And any attempt at explaining that statement would sound as weird as the statement itself.

But here’s me trying anyway: A string of murders involving young women is happening across the city. It begins with unsuspecting women receiving an unusual gift from their boyfriend, who is actually Bagheera . The girls are so ready to hug and kiss this deliberately creepy-looking teddy bear on command from their boyfriend. The teddy bear then goes on to kill them with a needlessly complex murder weapon, which is basically a syringe attached to a hammer.

And precisely at this point, you are lost wondering if you are laughing with the film or at it because it is hard to grapple with the fact that the makers meant for these moments to be serious. While you are strangely amused by the murderous teddy bear, we are introduced to the man behind the curtain, Bagheera himself. Prabhu Deva sports multiple looks to deceive multiple women. Almost every look he dons is as over the top and cartoonish as the murderous teddy bear but the cherry on top is how you can see Prabhu Deva enjoying himself so much.

The most authentic, enjoyable part of the film is easily the actor, who is clearly having fun with his character. The murderous teddy bear and a whacky, unhinged Prabhu Deva is about the extent of fun you can extract out of Bagheera . The rest of the film is either painfully outdated (ex: ‘boy bestie’ jokes), over-indulgent, or laughably trite.

The film is at its lowest when we are taken back to Bagheera’s childhood and are made to sit through an odd creative choice where half of the flashback is animated while the other half is in live-action. While this might be due to budget constraints and/or actor availability, the entire sequence felt like the makers’ attempt at figuring out all the loopholes so far and clearing it with the quick-fix flashback.

Time and again, Prabhu Deva’s Bagheera declares himself as the saviour of men. “Ponnungalukku onnu na maadhar sangam varum but pasangalukku onnu na indha Bagheera varuvan” He even goes on to set up an app that lets guys send complaints about girls who broke their heart, Bagheera then goes on to hunt down the girls. With the app on one hand and the serial killer who targets promiscuous women on the other hand, Bagheera tries to be a blend of Manmathan and Anniyan but the execution is not as interesting as how the idea sounds on paper.

Towards the end of the film, one of Bagheera ’s victims (played by Amyra Dastur) gets trapped in a mansion with him and gets chased around in a game of cat and mouse. While the sequence is devoid of any tension, Prabhu Deva’s antics and a remix of the song Pattukottai Ammalu from Ranga (1982) elevate the mood and offer some much-needed respite.

Adult entertainers usually fare well when they don’t take themselves too seriously. While there are moments in Bagheera that massively benefit from such lighthearted treatment, there are sections of the film that are too deliberately filled with logical loopholes and careless writing. Unfortunately, the latter segments of the film bulldoze whatever little is built by the former.

Prashanth Neel's Bagheera Trailer: 'Dark' Actioner!

Hero Sriimurali of Ugramm fame’s latest flick Bagheera for which Prashanth Neel offered story is up for release in Telugu, along with the original on October 31st.

The film’s theatrical trailer is out now opens with a serious conversation between a mother and her son about divine avatars.

She explains that when humans become demons, the divine can manifest in various forms. She emphasizes that God doesn't only appear as a deity but can also take on the form of a demon.

A masked man Bagheera, whom locals regard as a god, is on a mission to eliminate criminals, while the police are determined to capture him, wanting him either dead or alive.

Prashanth Neel penned a story, while director Dr Suri presented it in a commercial format and his taking is truly remarkable.

Sriimurali appeared in a role with dual shades as a police officer, and also a masked man Bagheera, and excelled in each character.

While Rukmini Vasanth played his love interest, the trailer also introduced other prominent characters such as Prakash Raj, Rangayana Raghu, Achyuth Kumar, Garuda Ram, etc.

Cinematographer AJ Shetty delivers world-class visuals, effectively capturing the film's dark and intense backdrop, while music director B Ajaneesh Loknath augments the narrative with a powerful score.

The action drama, starring Srii Murali, will hit the screens on October 31, 2024.

Prashanth Neel’s talent on test with ‘Bagheera’?

Kannada director Prashanth Neel has gained a huge following among Telugu viewers after delivering blockbusters like 'KGF 1’ and ‘KGF 2’ with Kannada superstar Yash and also teamed up with Prabhas and dished out an action-adventure 'Salaar'. Now, Prashanth Neel is returning to the two Telugu states with his next Kannada film 'Bagheera' being dubbed in Telugu and released this month-end. "This time, he doesn’t have Prabhas or Yash to bank on and has to pull in crowds on the strength of his name, and his talent would be tested,” says a producer. He has just provided the script for this film featuring Sri Murali and it is billed to be another action flick. “Prashanth has to prove that he can keep the audience engaged with his script and screenplay and doesn’t need a superstar to showcase his writing prowess,” he adds.

Meanwhile, Prashanth Neel has become a sought-after director in Tollywood and is doing a film with Jr NTR and it would be a larger-than-life movie. He is reportedly in talks to direct Ram Charan for another big-ticket entertainer. “Prashanth became a star director overnight in Tollywood after KGF shattered box office records and showcased Yash as a fearless and invincible hero and Telugu heroes had big plans to tie up with him,” he points out. Later, he joined hands with Prabhas and made his Tollywood debut with ‘Salaar’. “Prashanth is known for penning larger-than-life movies and actors need to have a stature and image to carry off such roles.

Will his story justify the casting of young hero Sri Murali’, it remains to be seen,’ he concludes.
