Kannada movie 'Zoom' review: What critics say about Ganesh, Radhika Pandit-starrer?

Prashanth Raj's "Zoom" hit the screens on Friday, July 1. The Kannada movie, which stars Ganesh and Radhika Pandit in the leads, has opened to mixed reviews from the critics.

"Zoom" has veteran actor Kashinath in a key role. Sadhu Kokila, Srinivas Prabhu, Nurse Jayalakshmi, Kavya Shetty and others are in the cast. The major attraction of the film is that popular South Indian musician S Thaman has scored the music. Santhosh Rai Pathage is the cinematographer and Ravichandran is the editor of the flick.

It is inspired by Hollywood movie "Lover Come Back." The movie tells the story of two people, who work at rival ad agencies. While the heroine believes in hard work and sincerity, the hero has a contradicting view as he finds short cuts to success. At a situation, Ganesh fakes a contract and the rest of the story revolves around it with a love angle between the hero and the heroine.

Critics say that the movie is loaded with double meaning jokes. However, the performance of the lead actors have been appreciated. Santhosh's cinematography becomes succesful in winning appreciation. Here, find what leading critics say about "Zoom":

Bangalore Mirror Review:  Zoom looks rich, feels lavish and showcases vivid and colourful images. No small feat by Santhosh Rai Pathaje. The dialogues make the film tacky. Whether the impact of the twists was lost in the screenplay or in the editing suite can only be answered by the director.

Deccan Chronicle:  While coming back to 'Zoom' of 2016, the director has adulterated it by extending the running time when compared to the original which ends within 107 minutes, whereas Zoom drags on till 158 minutes, mostly filled with adulterated jokes.

Chitraloka:  The highlight of the film includes the lead pair Ganesha and Radhika Pandit who are a treat to watch.

In a bid to win a client, Santhosh, an advertising director, locks horns with Nayana, a marketing head in a company. Things get out of hand when Santhosh shoots a fake advertisement for a non-existent product named Zoom. 1. Radhika Pandit

Radhika Pandit another example of a home grown actress making it big in Kannada television and film industry. The pretty actress was born on March 7th 1984 in Bangalore. She has completed her education from Mount Carmel College.

Ganesh is an Indian actor and a producer who predominantly works in the Kannada Film Industry. He came to fame by anchoring a show called “Comedy Time” which was aired on Udaya Channel. He acted in the movie “Mungaru Male” which made him an instant superstar in the Kannada film industry. Born in Adakamaranahalli, to Kishan and Sulochna, Ganesh is the eldest son in his family. He has two brothers: Mahesh and Umesh.

3. Sadhu Kokila

Sadhu Kokila is a Kannada actor who primarily works on comedy roles. He is also a director and music composer. Rakta Kanneeru, Om and Shhh are some of the movies that he directed and also acted. The Vijay starrer Devru was also directed by him. Born on 24th March, 1966, Sadhu Kokila, also known as Kokila Sadhu, hails from a family of musically inclined people. His father was a violinist in a music group of Karnataka Police Department. His sister and mother are singers. Layendra, Kokila’s brother, is also an actor. Kokila pursued his schooling at St. Joseph’s Indian High School in Bangalore. Kannada star Upendra provided him with the name Sadhu Kokila.  Kokila kickstarted his career in the film industry as a musician and eventually he was referred to Kasturi Shankar, another musician. He has the reputation of being one of the swiftest keyboard players in India. Kokila has helmed direction for 12 Kannada flicks, and 6 of them were remakes. His directorial venture Anarkali was dropped midway.  Kokila expresses that audiences and the media question whether his films are a remake or original. He had made up his mind not to endeavor in remakes. He feels that composing music requires a lot of creativity. As far as his comedy stint is concerned, he is loved by the audience. And about acting he feels that it is exciting. Sadhu Kokila has received awards for music direction twice.  As far as remakes are concerned Kokila is of the view that there are creative limitations. But originals are enjoyable both in the sense of creativity and visualization. Sadhu Kokila along with Doddanna make a good pair for situation comedies. Kokila is compared with Johnny Lever of Bollwyood,for his comedy skills.  On his personal front, Kokila is wedded to Saleena. They are blessed with two sons. 

4. Kashinath

Kashinath is an Indian film director and actor. His work is dominant in Kannada movie industry. He is very well known in the south as the “trendsetter.” It is said that he is the one who began the trend of music and film direction, production, acting, etc. He was born in Kundapur, Karnataka, India. He changed the way Kannada cinema was in terms of looks, dialogue delivery, and the overall feel. He is changing the style of the movie which partly made all his films very successful. The audience, as well as cinema critics, likes the feel of his work. Some have tagged his work unconventional and weird.

5. S Thaman

Ghantasala Sai Srinivas Thaman Siva Kumar, also known as S.Thaman. He is an Indian film composer, who also works in Tamil and Telugu industry. He is famous for giving his best. He started his career in the film Boys. He then became famous for his passion towards music director. His debut film as music director for Tamil was Sindhanai Sei and for Telugu was Kick. S.Thaman was born on 16th November 1983 in Andhra Pradesh. He is the grandchild of Ghantasala Balaramaya, who is known for producing the Telugu film Seetarama Jananam. Thaman, a 28-year-old hails from a family of musicians from Pottepalam. His father Ghantasala Siva Kumar was a Drummer; mother Ghantasala Savitri is a playback singer and his aunt P.Vasantha is also singer. Thaman married Vardhini, who is a playback singer.

6. Dev Singh Gill

Dev Singh Gill is an actor and a model. He was born in Pune in Maharashtra. He started acting from 2004. He acted in 'Shaheed-E-Azam', 'Mr Prime Minister', 'Bold' in Hindi, 'Krishnarjuna', 'Magadheera', 'Sura', 'Ragada', 'Prema Kavali' in Telugu and many others. He is a leading villain in the south cinema.

7. Prashant Raj

Prashant Raj is a screenwriter and director, who predominantly works in Kannada movies. He was born on March 10th 1982. His debut movie was Love Guru which got released in the year 2009. Prashanth Raj before entering into Sandalwood films, he been an assistant director for the Bollywood movie "Raaz". Following this, he worked in films like Shootout at Lokhandwala, Deewane Huye Paagal and Kisna.
