Essay on Healthcare in India

Students are often asked to write an essay on Healthcare in India in their schools and colleges. And if you’re also looking for the same, we have created 100-word, 250-word, and 500-word essays on the topic.

Let’s take a look…

100 Words Essay on Healthcare in India

Introduction.

Healthcare in India is a critical sector. It includes public and private hospitals, clinics, and other medical facilities.

Public Healthcare

Private healthcare.

Private healthcare, on the other hand, is usually more expensive. However, it tends to have better facilities and shorter wait times.

India faces challenges in healthcare, like inadequate facilities in rural areas and a shortage of trained medical professionals.

250 Words Essay on Healthcare in India

Healthcare in India is a multifaceted system, encompassing public and private sectors, traditional and modern medicine, and urban and rural disparities. This essay explores the current state of healthcare in India, its challenges, and potential solutions.

Current State of Healthcare

India’s healthcare sector has made significant strides, with increased life expectancy and decreased infant mortality. However, it is riddled with disparities. While urban areas enjoy better healthcare facilities, rural regions grapple with inadequate infrastructure and lack of trained medical personnel.

The challenges are manifold. Accessibility and affordability remain major concerns. A large portion of the population lacks access to quality healthcare, while high out-of-pocket expenses push many into poverty. Furthermore, there is a significant shortage of healthcare professionals, particularly in rural areas.

Public-Private Partnership

A public-private partnership (PPP) is seen as a viable solution. The private sector’s resources and efficiency can supplement the public sector’s reach and affordability. However, the implementation of PPPs requires stringent regulations to prevent exploitation.

Role of Technology

Technology can bridge the urban-rural divide. Telemedicine, AI, and mobile health technologies can facilitate remote consultations, predictive diagnostics, and health monitoring, making healthcare more accessible and affordable.

500 Words Essay on Healthcare in India

India’s healthcare sector is a study in contrasts, presenting a complex tapestry of cutting-edge advancements and systemic challenges. With an expansive population and diverse health needs, the healthcare system in India is a critical component of the nation’s development agenda.

The Landscape of Indian Healthcare

India’s healthcare infrastructure is a mix of public and private providers. The public system, under the aegis of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, provides primary, secondary, and tertiary care. However, it suffers from inadequate funding, lack of infrastructure, and a dearth of healthcare professionals. The private sector, on the other hand, is burgeoning. It is technologically advanced, offers high-quality services, but is often criticized for being expensive and inaccessible to the poor.

Healthcare Accessibility and Affordability

Government initiatives, technological innovations.

Technological innovations have the potential to revolutionize India’s healthcare landscape. Telemedicine, artificial intelligence, and digital health records can address the issues of accessibility and affordability. Telemedicine can bridge the urban-rural divide by providing remote consultations. AI can assist in disease prediction and management, while digital health records can streamline patient data, improving efficiency and patient care.

Challenges and Future Prospects

India’s healthcare sector, while fraught with challenges, is teeming with potential. With the right mix of policy interventions, technology adoption, and a focus on equitable access, India can transform its healthcare landscape, ensuring a healthier future for its citizens. The journey is long and arduous, but with concerted efforts, a robust and inclusive healthcare system is achievable.

Will eating insects save the planet?

Eating insects may be healthier, cheaper and better for the environment than consuming meat – what’s not to like?

French chef Laurent Veyet puts a cricket on a dish in his restaurant Inoveat serving insect-based food in Paris, France,

The Singapore Food Agency announced last month that it has approved 16 insect species as fit for human consumption.

The agency has permitted some species of beetle, locusts, grasshoppers and mealworms to be sold as food. These insects cannot simply be harvested from the wild. They must be “farmed in premises regulated by the Competent Authority”, according to the agency.

Revisiting molokhia amid war and displacement in gaza, the legendary flavoured ground salt from india: pisyu loon, the surfer chef behind south africa’s first fine dining halal restaurant, communing with spirits and coping with death: grief food in three cultures.

While entomophagy , the practice of eating insects, in many parts of the world remains gastronomic esotericism, Singapore is one of several countries that have begun to welcome it.

Indeed, in some parts of the world, insects are served up as popular street food. But do we all need to be switching our diets to include insects?

Why should we eat insects?

Some of the arguments for eating insects include:

  • They are environmentally more sustainable and cheaper to produce than beef.
  • They are higher in protein and other nutrients than meat.
  • They can be farmed without hormones.
  • They may be a solution to a food-insecure, overharvested, overfished world.

According to the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), 60 percent of fish stocks worldwide are overfished.

Climate change is shifting our relationship with food and many believe insects are a viable, environmentally sustainable protein alternative to meat, given the high carbon footprint of livestock farming, which some peer-reviewed journals estimate produces 14.5 percent to 19.6 percent of total global greenhouse gas emissions.

In 2022, the World Economic Forum published a report incentivising eating bugs, citing climate change and the high protein content of insects as reasons.

But already in 2013, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization had proposed entomophagy as a solution to food insecurity .

Is eating insects healthy?

It might bug you to know this, but, yes, in certain circumstances.

Different types of insects contain different amounts of nutrients, but they tend to be dense in protein, iron and calcium among other nutrients.

MightyCricket, a US-based website that sells cricket powder, says crickets contain 10 times more vitamin B12 than beef.

The Canada-based sports nutrition business Naak says 100g (3.5oz) of chopped beef steak contains about 20g of protein compared with 60g of protein that 100 grams of cricket steak contains.

Is eating insects good for the environment?

A big reason for the rise in sentiment in favour of eating insects is down to the significantly low environmental footprint insects have.

The production of meat and dairy products accounts for 14.5 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions, according to an FAO report.

MightyCricket’s website says crickets use 50 to 90 percent less land per kilogramme of protein than conventional livestock.

According to the 2013 FAO report, producing 100g of beef steak creates 750g of greenhouse gases emissions. To produce 100g of crickets, the amount of emissions is estimated to be 100 times less.

Where in the world are insects commonly eaten?

The FAO data published in 2013 estimated two billion people consume insects globally.

While this number is often cited, an editorial in the Journal of Insects as Food and Feed said in 2021 that the number is an overstatement. Regardless, insects are an important part of a number of cuisines around the world:

  • Silkworms are considered a delicacy in some northeastern states of India. In Nagaland, a state on the Myanmar border, silkworms are available at every market. Known as “eri puka” in Nagamese, the silkworms are fried, tossed together with spices, vegetables and bamboo shoots. Crispy fried grasshopper is also a common snack in the state.

Silkworm

  • Sago grubs, also called butod, are a traditional delicacy on the island of Borneo. They are eaten as appetisers, such as satay, or can be stir-fried.

Sago worm

  • Nsenene, long-horned grasshoppers, are a popular snack in Uganda and are sold by street vendors or cooked at home. These insects are usually fried with chilli, onion and spices. Because they secrete their own oil, there is no need for cooking oil.

  • Tacoma worms are a delicacy among the Indigenous Arawak community in Pakuri, Guyana. They can be eaten raw, sauteed, or skewered and roasted and are described as “buttery” and highly nutritious. They are enjoyed at special events.
  • In Marondera, Zimbabwe, villagers have been eating insects and worms foraged in the forest or collected during crop harvests for generations. Now, the village boasts its own edible-insect farm .

Who in the West is eating insects?

While insects are already widely eaten in some countries around the world, they have never been a favourite among gourmets in the West. Despite this, some upscale restaurants are featuring insects on the menu:

  • French chef Laurent Yenet plates an intricately crafted seven-course gourmet meal at his Paris restaurant Inoveat. He pairs insect meat with zesty citrus and herby, floral garnishes. Superfoods such as spirulina and pollen also feature.
  • Grub Kitchen in Wales, the United Kingdom’s first insect restaurant, focuses on sustainability and is the vision of chef Andy Holcroft. The menu ranges from minced insect Bolognese to mealworm hummus and mixed insect pakoras fried with vegetables and served with mango chutney. Grub Kitchen largely has good reviews on TripAdvisor, but one reviewer was sceptical of eating insects, writing: “If this is the future, kill me now.”

Why don’t we eat insects more widely?

The question of why people are put off by the idea of feasting on bugs opens several cans of worms:

  • The “yuck” factor: For some, the aversion to eating insects simply comes from being conditioned to seeing insects are creepy, dirt-lurking creatures and definitely not food.
  • Religious reasons:  For some religious communities, eating insects is a no-go. For example, a large number of India’s vegetarians follow the Jain faith , which is centred on nonviolence to the extent that it forbids eating root vegetables because their harvesting kills the plant and insects close to it. For Muslims, opinion is divided. While some schools of thought believe all insects are forbidden, others permit eating specific locusts as long has they have not been raised in “dirty” environments.
  • Ethical reasons:  The dilemma of whether to eat insects has made its rounds on forums for vegetarians and vegans online, and while some have said they would give insects a shot over beef or chicken, some are not open to the idea because they do not want to eat living beings.

An Olympics Scene Draws Scorn. Did It Really Parody ‘The Last Supper’?

Some church leaders and politicians have condemned the performance from the opening ceremony for mocking Christianity. Art historians are divided.

A screen depicting a person painted in blue near fruit. Behind is a rainy Paris street with part of the Eiffel Tower and Olympic rings visible.

By Yan Zhuang

A performance during the Paris Olympics’ opening ceremony on Friday has drawn criticism from church leaders and conservative politicians for a perceived likeness to Leonardo da Vinci’s depiction of a biblical scene in “The Last Supper,” with some calling it a “mockery” of Christianity.

The event’s planners and organizers have denied that the sequence was inspired by “The Last Supper,” or that it intended to mock or offend.

In the performance broadcast during the ceremony, a woman wearing a silver, halo-like headdress stood at the center of a long table, with drag queens posing on either side of her. Later, at the same table, a giant cloche lifted, revealing a man, nearly naked and painted blue, on a dinner plate surrounded by fruit. He broke into a song as, behind him, the drag queens danced.

The tableaux drew condemnation among people who saw the images as a parody of “The Last Supper,” the New Testament scene depicted in da Vinci’s painting by the same name. The French Bishops’ Conference, which represents the country’s Catholic bishops, said in a statement that the opening ceremony included “scenes of mockery and derision of Christianity,” and an influential American Catholic, Bishop Robert Barron of Minnesota, called it a “gross mockery.”

The performance at the opening ceremony, which took place on and along the Seine on Friday, also prompted a Mississippi-based telecommunications provider, C Spire, to announce that it would pull its advertisements from Olympics broadcasts. Speaker Mike Johnson described the scene as “shocking and insulting to Christian people.”

The opening ceremony’s artistic director, Thomas Jolly, said at the Games’ daily news conference on Saturday that the event was not meant to “be subversive, or shock people, or mock people.” On Sunday, Anne Descamps, the Paris 2024 spokeswoman, said at the daily news conference, “If people have taken any offense, we are, of course, really, really sorry.”

The impact of women's autonomy and under-five child health care practices on nutritional status of under-five child were determined with the sample of 300 women and child pairs in the slums of English Bazar municipality of Malda district, West Bengal, India. We examined the women autonomy in four areas, financial autonomy, physical autonomy, decision-making autonomy and child health care-related autonomy. Also the child health care practices were determined by immunization, hygiene care, exclusively breastfeeding up to age five, oral rehydration solution taking during diarrhea and dietary diversity. Women have better autonomy resulted better nutritional status for the children. Women who have greater than 20 years of age have a better nutritional status for the children. The same way educational attainment of the mother and her body mass index level has a positive impact on the nutritional status of the children. Dietary diversity of children has a strong impact on child nutritional outcomes. Other health care variables also have some sort of impact of the nutritional status of children.

I am no longer in a relationship with his father and have been in a new relationship for four years. My wife came into my son's life when he was 6 years old and quickly stepped into a parental role. It was a role she enthusiastically took on.

Although she didn't give birth to my son, my wife is absolutely his second mother.

My son and wife's relationship started friendly

My wife didn't immediately take an authoritative role or force him to treat her like a parent. At first, she was more like a grown-up friend — someone he knew he needed to respect, but someone who would take him on drives to get ice cream or let him pretend to drive her car while I was inside the grocery store.

Related stories

I was worried about parenting with another person all the time. As the primary parent, I wasn't used to dividing parenting duties . My wife was aware of that and always deferred to me as the primary parent.

But the bond between my son and my wife was instant. He had never met someone I was dating before, but he liked her immediately.

My wife has taken on more responsibility as a stepmom

Over the last four years, she's taken on more parental responsibility but never tried to act like she was more of a parent than myself or my son's father. She is a bonus mom, someone there to kiss him goodnight , help him with his homework, and love him unconditionally.

During the pandemic, my wife volunteered to take the lead in helping my son with virtual school so I could focus on work. She created a schedule for him, made him lunch, and ensured he kept up with assignments. When the playgrounds opened, she would take him to play, armed with a backpack full of whatever was needed.

I have gone on several overnight trips , leaving the two of them alone together. My son doesn't even call or text me when I'm gone because he's having so much fun hanging out with my wife. I never have to worry about him; I know my wife will make sure he takes a bath and goes to bed on time.

There are days when I will ask her to tag in and do the bedtime routine because I'm working or want a break, and she does it without question. My son knows that if he needs something, he doesn't have to come to me all the time.

Seeing my wife willingly step into a parental role with my son has strengthened our relationship. I knew I loved her almost immediately after we met, but seeing how my son responded to her made me more secure in my decision.

Sometimes, she still refers to him as mine, and I always remind her that she's his mom, too. We do everything as a team: school meetings, performances, birthday parties . Everyone knows us as his two moms, and there's no one else I could imagine doing this with.

My son now sees my wife as the missing piece to our family puzzle. He proudly claims her as his other mom.

"You're my mom too," my son will say when my wife calls herself his stepmom. He made that decision. My wife never wanted to force a close relationship on him, but he pushed for it.

Media has warped the perception of stepmoms

Popular media depictions of stepmoms are largely negative. The common trope is that they're evil.

For example, you have characters like Meredith Blake in the Lindsay Lohan version of "The Parent Trap," the Baroness von Schraeder in " The Sound of Music ," and, of course, the prototype: Cinderella's Evil Stepmother.

These women are always seen as temptresses who come in and seduce the father into marrying them before revealing they intend to get rid of his daughter so that she will be the only woman in his life.

Maybe there are stepmoms out there who fit this description, but by and large, stepmoms are there to be whoever their step kids want them to be.

I know that's exactly the role my wife plays, and my son and I are all the more lucky for it.

A man without discipline is a ship without a rudder. Discipline needs self-control. One who cannot control himself can seldom control others. The level of discipline and perseverance largely determines a person’s success. Self-discipline is the act of disciplining one’s own feelings, desires, etc. especially with the intention of improving oneself. It strengthens our willpower. The stronger our will power the positive will be our decision. It enables us to conquer our own self.

Diet is an important component for overall fitness and works best in combination with exercise. A balanced diet and exercise regularly help to maintain good health. It is necessary to reduce weight if one is overweight or obese, failing which one cannot be physically fit for long. For people with obesity, more exercise and a strict regime are necessary, preferably under guidance. There are many ways of making the diet healthier.

Use less sugar and salt while cooking food.

Use less oil while cooking. Avoid deep-frying as much as possible.

Set a healthy sleeping routine for every day. Waking early in the morning and going to bed early at night should be a daily habit. Lead an active life.

Unhealthy Lifestyle

Bad food habits and an unhealthy lifestyle such as less or no physical activity may lead to several diseases like obesity, high blood pressure or hypertension, diabetes, anemia, and various heart diseases.
