Researching Your Topic

Writing your report, revising your report.

Are you stumped about how to write a report on a famous person? Many times, just starting a project like this is half the battle and once you begin all the pieces will fall into place. You will just need to do a bit of research, organize the information you learned into general categories, and then write about each of those categories. You can write a report about anyone or anything with just a bit of time, organization, and focus.

Things You Should Know

  • Learn more about your subject by researching on the internet, checking out books at the library, and watching documentaries on the person.
  • Find a focus to center your report around. Instead of writing about every detail of their life, choose something important that stands out to you, like their philanthropy efforts.
  • Create an outline to get a rough idea of what your report should look like. Here, you can craft an intro, topic sentences for body paragraphs, and a conclusion.
  • If you must choose someone from a specific time period, search for historical figures from that era and read about them until you find one that interests you.
  • You could also choose someone based on a topic. For instance, if you’re interested in electricity, you could pick Nikola Tesla, Michael Faraday, or James Prescott Joule.

Step 2 Do a basic Internet search about the person.

  • For most reports, this preliminary search won't give you sources that you want to cite in your paper. Instead, it'll give you the basic information you'll need to do a more in-depth search for credible sources. [1] X Research source
  • Try not to cite sources in your paper that are created by non-experts or are sources that can be edited by anyone. However, these can be great jumping off points for further research.

Step 3 Go to the library and gather more information.

  • When researching the subject, be careful to evaluate the credibility of your sources . If possible, use a variety of reliable sources to get the best information about the subject. [2] X Research source
  • As a general rule, you want information that has been created by experts on the person you are researching. [3] X Research source

Step 4 Take notes.

  • Write the name of the source, then list the pertinent information as you come across it. Be sure to note the page number(s) too.
  • There are different ways to take notes, so you'll have to find one that suits you.
  • Some people like to take notes on paper and some people like to type them in a computer. Do whichever you prefer.

Step 5 Find your focus.

  • For example, if you're researching Eleanor Roosevelt, you'll want to know when she was born, who her parents and her husband were, and why she's famous. However, you'll also want to focus on one aspect of her life, such as her work for women's rights.
  • Alternatively, pick the aspect that you relate to most. For example, if you're drawn to Elvis Presley because of his in the military, write your report about his time in the military.

Step 6 Keep track of all of your sources.

  • Ask your teacher if they want citations and how they'd like you to include them. There are different citation styles, so it's important to understand what your teacher expects.
  • Your teacher may also want a bibliography. This is a specifically formatted list of all of the books or websites you used. It is sometimes called "Works Cited" or "Sources Cited."
  • Make a list of all of your sources as you do your research. It will make the bibliography easier to write at the end.
  • 1 Follow the assignment guidelines. In some cases, your teacher might want you to answer a specific question about the historical figure, create a claim or thesis that guides your research, or even explain how you view the person. Read through the assignment guidelines several times and make sure that your research and report follows the expected format.

Step 2 Create an outline.

  • For example, if your main point about The Beatles is that they were the most popular band in the 1960s, say that in the introduction. The point of every following paragraph will support that assertion.
  • The outline can be created in any form you like. Some people like to start listing the points they want to make, while others prefer to create a structured outline that lays out the organization of the paper in detail.
  • You can also list an outline for the conclusion but the conclusion usually just reiterates the main point brought up in the introduction.

Step 3 Write an introduction.

  • You also need to introduce your main point. This should be a topic sentence that goes toward the end of the introduction.
  • Include when and where this person was born in the introduction. Consider waiting until the end of your report to discuss when they died.
  • Don't address the person by their first name. It sounds very unprofessional. You can call them by their full name in your introduction, but after that, use their last name.

Step 4 Write topic sentences for each paragraph.

  • For example, if the point of one paragraph is that The Beatles sold more albums than other artists in the 1960s, state that as the topic sentence.
  • Don't mince words about your point. State it clearly and strongly.
  • Each paragraph needs to have a topic sentence. If you think your paragraph doesn't have one, then you need to do some editing. [5] X Research source

Step 5 Write body paragraphs.

  • Each example you give to prove the topic sentence should be in a separate sentence. This means that your paragraphs should be around 4 to 5 sentences long.
  • Giving specific examples will help you prove the paragraph's point. Instead of giving your opinion, back up your points with facts.
  • How many paragraphs you need for your report will vary. In most cases, 5 paragraphs will be ideal: 1 for the introduction, 3 for the body, and 1 for the conclusion. [7] X Research source
  • If your teacher gives you a set word count or page count that you need to meet, you may have to increase or decrease the number of body paragraphs.

Step 6 Write the conclusion.

  • Begin the concluding paragraph by rephrasing the main point and examples. For instance, in an essay on The Beatles' popularity, you could state, "Clearly, The Beatles staggering record sales, huge fan base, and enduring legacy illustrate the bands lasting importance."
  • In some cases, the conclusion may remind the reader of your attention grabbing sentence used in the intro.
  • Don't introduce new information in your conclusion. If you are tempted to, find a place to include it in the body of the essay instead.

Step 1 Read over your report for clarity.

  • If you think you need to explain your subject more, take the time to do it. You've spent a lot of time on your report already, so it's worth a little more time to make it the best it can be.
  • After you're done writing your paper, read it out loud to catch mistakes. This will help you to catch areas of your writing that are awkward or confusing. [9] X Research source

Step 2 Make grammatical and spelling corrections.

  • For example, did you use the right version of the word "there" in your paper? A spell check program may not catch it if you used the wrong version of a word with multiple spellings.

Step 3 Have someone else edit your report.

  • Don't take it personally if you get a lot of feedback. They're only trying to help make your report the best it can be.
  • Consider having a parent or a classmate read over your report. If you have a classmate do it, offer to read over their paper in exchange for them reading over yours.

  • Never plagiarize your work. It's not worth the short cut and it is dishonest. In fact, your teacher can put anything from your paper into a search engine and find the website you stole it from. Always rephrase sentences when using them in your paper and cite the source you got the information from. Thanks Helpful 3 Not Helpful 5

· In what ways was the life remarkable, despicable, and admirable?

· What human qualities were most influential in shaping the way this person lived and influenced his or her times?

· Which quality or trait proved most troubling and difficult?

· Which quality or trait was most beneficial?

· Did this person make any major mistakes or bad decisions? If so, what were they?

· Many people act out of a "code" or a set of beliefs which dictate choices. It may be religion or politics or a personal philosophy. To what extent did your person act by a code or act independently of any set of beliefs? Were there times when the code was challenged and impossible to follow? Or, people act in such a way that goes against a set of beliefs- in what way did your person act that went against what we consider to be moral and just?

· What do you think it means to be a hero? Was your person a "hero?" Why? Why not? How is a hero different from a celebrity? Or was your person someone that history looks down upon. Why and do you think all people feel the same as you?

Great Ideas for a Research Project on Celebrities

Since time immemorial, people that made names for themselves in the public sphere have either been worshiped, loathed, or deemed heroes. But most of all—scrutinized.

Since time immemorial, people that made names for themselves in the public sphere have either been worshipped, loathed or deemed heroes. But most of all—scrutinized. After all, with vast influence and exposure comes great responsibility.

Think controversial Egyptian queen Cleopatra or 20th century prima donna Maria Callas. In the modern day, the roles that people like Callas represent are fulfilled by celebrities like the Kardashians, Ariana Grande, Britney Spears, and even politicians.

These famous personalities are known to have given up the chance for a ‘normal life’. However, it is not as if they sign up as public figures without knowing the consequences of it. Obviously, they are aware that choosing the limelight as superstars constitutes a lifelong lack of privacy; and so they try their best to keep their sanity by staying indoors when work hours are over.

This serves to amplify the celebrity’s ‘mystery factor’ and pushes people to become even more intrigued, to try to find out what goes on behind the curtains, and this becomes a major factor to drive media consumption in the press. No wonder being mysterious is used as a strategic move to make an up and coming celebrity become even more famous(—and it works!) As a result, they become the subject of various, intensive research projects. This article is one such, except it will focus on suggesting ideas for a project that will further help dissect the culture and mechanics of celebrity life.

However, no matter how important or exciting your research is, sometimes it can be pretty challenging. If you feel that this task takes too much time and energy, you can delegate part of it to professional writers. Luckily, there are many ways to do it nowadays. The easiest one is to try this research paper writing service available online. By collaborating with this company, you create top-notch research that will bring you the highest grade. But most importantly, you will learn something new and avoid study-related stress. Isn’t it great?

When it comes to research, you might be excited by its topic. However, you also might be scared by its complexity. Sometimes, students have no idea how to approach such an extraordinary task as a research project on celebrities. If you are in a similar situation, don’t worry! Below, you can find some great ideas on how to complete this assignment. Keep reading!

Local celebrities

If you don’t know what kind of famous people you can analyze, think about your local community. For sure, in every town, even the smallest one, there are famous individuals. And oftentimes, their life stories are very interesting! So you can create a project on a celebrity who was born in your area. What’s more, if their relatives are still living in your town or village, you can interview them. It would be great to add your own photos of a celebrity’s birthplace or their school. Note that a research paper on a famous local resident can teach you about the history of your own town.

People you like

If you don’t know what celebrity to choose for your project, the most obvious thing to do is to pick a famous person you admire. Besides, you can research someone to whose life you can relate somehow. For example, if you struggle with a learning disability, you can find out what celebrities have overcome the same challenges. There must be famous people who share something in common with you, even if it’s dyslexia or ADHD . If you love sports, like baseball or football, you can do a research project about a famous athlete. Believe it or not, a common passion or challenge can make it more fun to learn about a famous person.

A list of celebrities

If you can’t decide on one particular person to research , why not put together a list of celebrities who have something in common? The criteria shouldn’t necessarily be something serious. For example, you may pick such a common thread as  “famous people who have blonde hair” or “celebrities who experimented with tattoos.” You can compile your list in an unusual format that makes sense for your particular subject. To make it look more interesting, create a slideshow with nice photos and design.

● Celebrities and Versatility in their Roles (Real life, onscreen, etc.)

The Marketing Psychology Behind Celebrity Endorsements

May 30, 2023 • 6 min read.

Celebrity endorsements sell products, even when the star outshines the brand. In a new study, Wharton experts use neuroscience to understand consumer decision-making.

Famous female celebrity standing in front of paparazzi to show the marketing psychology behind celebrity brand endorsements

Whether it’s Cindy Crawford gulping down a Pepsi, Shaquille O’Neal hawking Icy Hot, or Daniel Craig dancing his way through a Belvedere Vodka ad, famous people are good at selling stuff.

Companies pay millions for celebrity endorsements because they work, but they have always been a bit of a marketing mystery. Why are consumers so captivated by celebrities? Doesn’t their star power eclipse the very product they have been hired to sell?

Wharton experts settle those questions in a new study that finds that celebrities positively influence consumer choices. But the reasons are less about fame and more about neuroscience, psychology, and evolution.

How Marketing Psychology Influences the Effectiveness of Celebrity Ads

“There is this inherent tension in advertising between these ideas that celebrities are there to bolster and endorse the product, yet they are also known to take attention away from the product. Our main question was to untangle those two things: Do people spend a lot of time looking at the celebrity, and does that change their gaze?” said Elizabeth (Zab) Johnson , executive director and senior fellow at the Wharton Neuroscience Initiative.

She is co-author of the paper , “How Celebrity Status and Gaze Direction in Ads Drive Visual Attention to Shape Consumer Decisions,” along with Wharton marketing, psychology, and neuroscience professor Michael Platt ; Simone D’Ambrogio , doctoral candidate in experimental psychology at the University of Oxford; and Noah Werksman , former undergraduate research assistant at the Wharton Neuroscience Initiative and Joseph Wharton Scholar.

“There is this inherent tension in advertising between these ideas that celebrities are there to bolster and endorse the product, yet they are also known to take attention away from the product.” — Elizabeth (Zab) Johnson

For their study, the researchers recruited dozens of participants to look at mock advertisements of snack foods with either celebrities or non-celebrities gazing at either the snack food or at the viewer. They tracked participants’ eye movements and pupil dilation, then used computational modeling to understand how gaze-cueing and celebrity endorsement affect participants’ product preference decisions.

The study on marketing psychology yielded two significant findings:

  • People are more likely to choose products that are endorsed by a celebrity rather than a non-celebrity, and they make that choice faster. Viewers had less pupil dilation when choosing a product that was advertised with a celebrity, an indication that they were spending less time deliberating their choice and were more confident about their decision.
  • Gaze-cueing is stronger in non-celebrities. When non-celebrities look at a product, viewers more often follow their gaze toward that product and linger on the item. When a celebrity is featured in an ad, viewers tend to linger on the face of the famous person regardless of whether the star is gazing at the product or back at the viewer.

“One of the key takeaways is that celebrity endorsement does work,” Johnson said, noting that tracking eye movement alone without pupil dilation and subsequent choice behavior would not have revealed how celebrities influence the speed of consumer decision-making. In fact, eye-tracking alone just proves that viewers look longer at the celebrity than the product. That’s known in marketing as “the vampire effect,” which posits that celebrities can overshadow and steal consumer attention away from the brand.

“It turns out that even though viewers aren’t looking at the product as much, the celebrity is still building consumer confidence. These are where preferences are more swayable on purpose,” Johnson said.

The researchers believe the ability of celebrities to persuade is rooted in evolution and biology. Both humans and primates will follow the lead of high-status, high-prestige individuals in their group by aligning their gaze or copying their decisions. This behavior is seen in the wild, when monkeys turn to look at whatever a higher-status monkey is looking at in the trees, or in the office, when employees model their work after the top-rated employee. When the leader is successful, others require less evidence to make the same choice.

“That doesn’t mean a celebrity can make you choose a product that you hate,” Johnson said. “Your strong preferences — if you absolutely love or hate something — don’t move, but there is a lot of wiggle room in there with products you might not yet have strong feelings about.”

Does Gen Z Trust Non-Celebrity Ads More?

The researchers said they expected to see more gaze-cueing in celebrity ads and were surprised to find that it was strongest in non-celebrity ads. Another surprise was that study participants rated the non-celebrities as slightly more attractive than the stars. Johnson said those two findings may explain the more recent marketing trend of using ordinary people in ads, albeit good-looking ones.

She also noted that most of the study participants were younger, and there’s mixed literature that Generation Z may have less faith and more suspicion of celebrity endorsements.

“There is something robust around celebrities,” Johnson said. “But I think this relates to the idea that regular, real people can also satisfy some aspect of building confidence in consumers. Both situations are at play here.”

“There is something robust around celebrities.” — Elizabeth (Zab) Johnson

What’s Next for Marketing Psychology and Neuroscience Research

Johnson and Platt have been friends for over 20 years and colleagues for more than a decade. They’ve had countless conversations about neuroscience, with her particular interest in visual cognition and his in social cognition, and together, they lead the Wharton Neuroscience Initiative. Still, they never put their ideas together for a study before now.

“It’s an unusual situation in that I’ve known him forever and we’d never collaborated on a research project. Our science had never intertwined,” Johnson said. “We batted around this question about celebrity endorsement for a long time and finally decided to go for it.”

She said the study has sparked even more questions they would like to examine about the generational differences in consumers, the marketing power of nontraditional celebrities such as social media influencers, and how visual cognition affects political decisions such as choosing a presidential candidate.

With pupillometry and eye-tracking, study participants don’t need to wear obtrusive head gear for researchers to study their reactions. Johnson said as the technology advances, scientists will get even more unfettered access to the brain’s decision-making mechanisms.

“I think it’s really interesting to apply a model that’s been used for a long time in psychology and neuroscience in these new contexts,” Johnson said. “It still hasn’t totally caught on, but it gets into this window of determining subjective value without interrupting a consumer’s decision-making process.”

Gender Bias in Celebrity Interview Questions: Topic Study at the Oscars 2023

Sofia Duffy, Lauren Nemeh, Audrey Tseng, Venus Vu

Red carpet interviews at award shows are often a hot topic that circulates on the internet and are viewed by millions of people. This being said, the quality and nature of what is said in the interviews can wildly influence the viewers. Previous research and social movements have shown that female celebrities who participate in these interviews are more likely to receive questions and comments related to their appearance compared to their male counterparts. With this in mind, we aimed to investigate gender bias in celebrity interviews through analyzing interview clips of the 2023 Oscars red carpet interviews. Specifically, we examined if there were differences in the theme of questions asked (word choice) and the quality of interviewers’ voice (tone) when interviewing male celebrities versus female celebrities.

Introduction

Celebrity interviews on the red carpet hold a prominent position within the fabric of award shows, captivating global audiences as they eagerly seek glimpses into the lives of their beloved stars. However, within this realm, a disconcerting disparity often emerges in the nature of questions posed to male and female celebrities, serving as a reflection of deep-seated gender biases and the perpetuation of societal expectations. In our study, we set our sights on the precise queries directed at celebrities during the 2023 Oscars, embarking on an investigation to unravel the discrepancies in how interviewers engage with male and female celebrity interviewees. Through a meticulous analysis of interviewers’ word choice and tone, our objective is to cultivate a comprehensive understanding of the pervasive gender biases that permeate these high-profile interactions. In doing so, we aim to unearth patterns that mirror societal gender biases and shed light on the implicit biases harbored by the interviewers themselves. By undertaking this critical exploration of language use in celebrity interviews, we contribute to the ongoing discourse surrounding gender equality in the realm of entertainment and challenge the perpetuation of gender stereotypes on the illustrious red carpet.

Celebrities hold a unique position in society due to their high-profile status and influence. The media coverage they receive significantly shapes public perceptions, particularly among impressionable children and teenagers who often look up to their favorite stars. Red carpet events are particularly important because they are televised occasions with substantial social significance. Among these events, the red carpet at the Oscars stands out as the most prestigious. Celebrities are asked a series of questions, and these interactions are recorded and broadcasted worldwide.

A study from 1956, “Age and Sex in the Interview” by Benny et al., offers valuable insights into the intersectional relationship between age and sex. Their analysis focuses on responses and utilizes post-interview surveys to gauge participants’ perspectives. Their research reveals a consistent pattern of communication inhibitions between individuals of the same age but different sexes, particularly among young men and young women. These findings underscore the complexity of interview interactions and the influence of societal expectations.

The Oscars red-carpet pre-show in question, with its apparent glamor and spontaneity, hides a reality that is heavily scripted and choreographed, where questions and reporters are carefully selected to meet industry demands and viewer expectations. Beneath the glamor of red-carpet lies a troubling tradition of objectifying the female body as a spectacle. Over the years, women have been typecast as the sole consumers of topics involving beauty and fashion, influenced by the rise of the beauty industry and photography (Lundén, 2021, p. 212). This has perpetuated a questionable tradition of objectification, reinforcing societal beliefs about gender roles. The red carpet has become a platform where women’s appearances are harshly criticized, focusing on mean-spirited evaluations of their bodies rather than celebrating their talent and accomplishments. Additionally, while women often bear the brunt of fashion-related questions, this does not exempt men from scrutiny. Fashion discourse has expanded to include men, but the discernible imbalance in how men and women are judged persists.

However, the emergence of the #askhermore movement in 2015 reflects a growing resistance to the recurring practice of asking women the superficial “what are you wearing” question on the red carpet. The movement encourages reporters to delve deeper and ask female celebrities more substantial questions beyond their clothing choices. In our research, we will concentrate on the questions asked to both male and female celebrities, shedding light on patterns that mirror societal gender biases and expected gender performance.

In the context of award shows, red carpet celebrity interviews hold great significance as they attract thousands of viewers seeking insights into the inner lives of these celebrities. However, the quality of questions posed to male and female celebrities differs significantly, with women often subjected to shallower inquiries about their appearance rather than their careers. The central focus of our research is to investigate the disparities in the treatment of male and female celebrity interviewees during the 2023 Oscars. Specifically, we aim to analyze the word choice and tone utilized by interviewers in their interactions with these individuals. By examining these linguistic aspects, we seek to gain a deeper understanding of the gender biases that manifest in celebrity interviews. Our research question revolves around whether interviewers hold implicit gender biases, leading to a tendency to ask female celebrities more superficial questions compared to their male counterparts. Through this inquiry, we aim to contribute to the broader conversation on gender equality within the entertainment industry and challenge the perpetuation of gender stereotypes on the red carpet.

Project Design

For our data sample, we selected 16 video clips from the 2023 Oscars red carpet. Since we are focusing on the gender difference of the celebrity, we selected 8 interview clips where the interviewee is a male celebrity and 8 interview clips where the interviewee is a female celebrity. To reach our sample size, we gathered video clips from three media sources: Extra TV, Vanity Fair, and E! News.  In total, we analyzed 49 minutes and 53 seconds of interviews. The time varied from interview to interview, from an interview that was 41 seconds long to one that was 4 minutes and 49 seconds. We aimed to analyze whether there are differences in the interviewer’s tone and word choice based on the gender of the celebrities being interviewed. To do so, we first transcribed everything that was said by the interviewers. We omitted what the celebrities said to better focus on the style of the questions and comments and color coded the content according to these following categories:

  • Red: career related questions/comments (e.g. film projects, experience working with co-stars)
  • Blue: personal related questions/comments (e.g. family, love life)
  • Green: fashion related questions/comments (e.g. outfit, makeup)
  • Yellow: serious tone
  • Purple: playful tone

For the purpose of our study, we treated each categorization as mutually exclusive. Next, we counted how many instances each category was used in each interview and added them up according to the gender of the celebrity. We compared the number of instances between the two genders to see if there was any relationship between them. We also placed our transcripts into a word counter in an attempt to see if any significant words were used more or less in one gender over the other. In our collection and analysis of the data, we disregarded the gender of the interviewer as we solely wanted to focus on the gender of the celebrity in relation to the type of question asked.

Based on previous knowledge, we hypothesized that:

  • Female celebrities will be asked more questions related to their personal life and fashion.
  • Male celebrities will be asked more questions related to their career.
  • Interviewers will use a more playful tone when interviewing female celebrities.
  • Interviewers will use a more serious tone when interviewing male celebrities.

Data and Results

Before discussing the findings of our study, here are some examples of the types of questions/comments interviewers asked and how we categorized them. Each example is pulled from a different celebrity interview.

celebrity research project questions

Here are our findings, separated into two bar charts. One chart is organized based on questions/comments that were categorized for tone, and the other is organized based on questions/comments that were categorized for word choice.

celebrity research project questions

In terms of word choice categorization, female celebrities were asked twice as much about fashion compared to men, as we recorded 10 instances for women compared to 5 for men. Male celebrities were asked career related questions twice as much as women, as we recorded 18 instances for men compared to 9 for women. We originally predicted that female celebrities would be asked more questions related to their personal life, which was proven to be incorrect as the results were roughly equivalent. Women were asked five personal questions compared to four for men.

In terms of tone, we found that women were asked twice as many questions in a serious tone compared to men (9 vs 4). However, we originally predicted that interviewers would use a more serious tone when interviewing male celebrities. We also found that male and female celebrities were spoken to in a playful tone at roughly the same frequency, with 20 instances for men compared to 18 for women.

When we put the data into a word counter, which we separated by the gender of the celebrity, we did not find any significance in the density of words used for male versus female celebrities.

Discussion and Conclusion

As we previously discussed, while we did find slight differences in the types of questions that were asked to the male versus female celebrities in our data recording, our data was not all-revealing nor conclusive. While we did find that men were asked more career-related questions whereas women were asked more fashion-related questions, we are not able to use our data to conclude that this is true for red carpet interview events in general. Our data consisted of 8 male celebrity interviews and 8 female celebrity interviews, which is not a complete representative of red carpet interviews as a whole. Further research could be done looking at a variety of different events. It would be interesting to see how/ if the results change depending on if it is a music awards event, premiere event, awards event, small event, etc. Each red carpet could be researched as an independent study, to then later compare the data. This comparison would offer insight into how the different events influence the types of questions being asked to male versus female celebrities. Alternatively, a study could be done by taking a set amount of interviews from each red carpet in order to have an accurate data sample of red carpets as a whole. This would offer insight into the trends of the questions male celebrities versus female celebrities are being asked on red carpets as a whole. Moreover, in our study we only analyzed the questions that were asked to the celebrities and did not take into account their responses. Future studies could benefit from also analyzing the responses.

It is also important to note that for the purpose of our study, we approached gender in a binary way through only analyzing the interviews of female and male celebrities. However, gender is not binary, and there is plentiful research that could be done on how transgender, non-binary, and other identifying celebrities are approached by interviewers on red carpets. In particular, we believe that it would be insightful to research and analyze the red-carpet interviews of transgender celebrities before and after transitioning to see if there are any differences in the questions that the same individual is asked. One of our male celebrities, Austin Butler had an interesting response to being asked a fashion question about his tuxedo. He responded with “What story am I telling you? I mean this Saint Laurent and I don’t know what story I’m telling you,” (Butler, 2023). This response, and others, offer insight into the history and the “why” matters of the questions that are asked on red carpets and therefore would be a useful data addition to a project like ours.

In addition to what we have already mentioned, in reflecting back on our project we have identified some factors that could improve our research. First, we did not account for the length of the interviews we were analyzing. Therefore, if there are three career-related questions in a 2 minute video, and none in a 30 second interview, it would be an inaccurate comparison. In future studies, we would better control the interview lengths. Additionally, we did not control who the interviewer was. Reflecting back, we realize that the motive and employer of the interviewer could play a large role in the types of questions that are asked. In future studies, we would definitely control who the interviewer is. Doing so would also open up an opportunity for more research through analyzing and comparing the types of questions that interviewers from different companies and magazines ask. It is evident that our research serves as a good starting point and reference for future studies.

This will be a 5- 6 week project.

Background for Teachers

To teach this lesson, the teacher will need to create a research model.  As 3rd graders are still young and probably not attune to how research is done, the teacher will need to plan how to model researching, so it's done appropriately.

The teacher will need to choose a note taking technique to teach and model.

The teacher will need to have an outline model so the students can take their research notes and put it in an outline format.

The teacher will need to be able to teach the technology that will be part of the final presentation project.

Student Prior Knowledge

Prior to the lesson, students will need to have an awareness of the positive impact their famous person has had so they can choose an appropriate person.

The students will need to be able to have reading stamina to spend a large amount of time reading about their famous person.

The students will need a basic understanding of their iPads, as this will be the device the project will be created on.

The students will need to be familiar with the 5-paragraph essay format.

Celebrity Interview Questions and Answers

Are you a musician, actor, social media influencer, dancer, or celebrity with an upcoming interview? There are a few common questions in celebrity interviews that you should expect. Your interviewer will want to know about your upcoming projects, interests, and hobbies outside acting, among many others. Let’s look at some of these questions to help you prepare adequately.

8 Tips to Prepare for a Celebrity Interview

Preparing for a celebrity interview requires a mix of professionalism, research, and technical know-how. Here are eight key items to consider.

Celebrity Interview Preparation

Top 30 celebrity interview questions and answers.

Here are the top 30 Celebrity Interview questions, along with a sample answer for each question.

1. Has Stardom Changes You?

Sample Answer

Yes and no. Stardom has changed my daily routine and how I operate. For example, I can’t leave the house without my security detail or show up to a random establishment and have fun as I used to without dealing with paparazzi and stalkers. However, stardom hasn’t changed my personality. When I got my first break, I promised myself I wouldn’t let the fame and glitter get into my head and change who I was. I am still the loving, caring, and family-centred person I was 10 years ago before the fame, and I aspire to remain that way.

2. Are You Currently Working On Any Projects?

Even though I can’t divulge specific details, I am currently working on 4 significant films. I am producing two and acting in the other two, which I hope will be out in 6 months. I have also taken a keen interest in music, and I’m excited to report that I am working on a few singles. I also have two collaborations, which I hope will be released soon.

3. Where Do You See Yourself In The Next Ten Years?

The film industry keeps changing, so anticipating where I will be in the next ten years can be difficult. Anyway, I see myself taking a break from active roles and switching to directing. I plan to return to film school soon and learn film directing, hopefully, my full-time job in the next ten years. Additionally, I am confident I will be more focused on my mentorship program since I wouldn’t be taking any active roles by then.

4. Do You Have Any Dream Projects?

As you know, I grew up in a family of actors and musicians. My parents were actors in the 90s and the early 2000s. My dad switched to film directing while my mum retired to tend to her hobbies and interests. I’m sure she’s backpacking somewhere in Europe as we speak. Anyway, my dream project is to be in a film with my dad, who’s still in good shape for an active role. I hope we will be on the screen together at some point before I take a leave from acting.

5. How Do You Maintain A Private-Work Life Balance

Balancing work and private lives can be challenging for celebrities owing to the pressure of being a public figure. However, I usually spare Sunday for family and friends. I may have my friends over or organize a barbecue with my parents and sisters. I also tend to my hobbies and interests when not recording or attending meetings in the studio. You will find me pruning, tending to my garden, or painting in my art room.

6. Do You Think You Are Competitive Enough?

I don’t term myself as competitive. In fact, I believe I am the most non-competitive celebrity in existence. I only compete with myself, meaning I always strive to be better than I was yesterday. I usually evaluate my performance, listen to constructive criticism and find ways of improving my craft. I am confident in my talent and do not see the need to compete. As a matter of fact, I don’t need to compete with anyone, provided that I give my all.

7. What Makes You Smile?

As odd as it may sound, seeing people happy make me smile, which explains why I always love to put smiles on people’s faces. I grew up in a rough neighbourhood where every day was a struggle. We struggled to get food and could not access simple life pleasures. I cannot even remember the times I was genuinely happy growing up in the projects. When I caught my first big break and felt rested for the first time, I decided there and then to put as many smiles as possible on people’s faces. I am glad about what I have achieved.

8. What Scares You The Most?

Failure scares me the most, even though I was recently told it was unhealthy. I usually set high standards for myself, which I have always achieved, regardless of the work involved. You will always find me in the studio as early as 4 am recording new tracks and going through yet-to-be-released music. I usually appear an hour early at concert venues to avoid disappointing my fans. I am always working twice as hard to ensure that I succeed. The same also applies to my personal life.

9. How Would You Describe Yourself?

I would describe myself as the person I was ten years before fame, cars, or money. I am a kind, loving and appreciative person- values taught at a young age. I am also a hardworking, dedicated, and highly motivated individual: attributes that have helped me get this far in my personal and work life. Additionally, I have been described as someone who finds thrill in the littlest things in life, which I believe after close introspection.

10. What Advice Do You Have For Kids Who Would Like To Be Like You?

I will tell kids who want to be like me the same thing I was told when I joined this industry. They should not let fame and stardom change them but instead use the values and attributes learned before fame to steer them. They should stay humble and dedicated regardless of where their craft takes them. Lastly, hard work beats talent; therefore, they should not sit back and think that everything will be handed to them on a silver platter just because they are talented. They must toil and constantly improve their craft to dine with kings.

11. What Was Your First Job?

One thing that most people don’t know about me is that I was a software engineer before I joined music and acting. I took acting classes growing up but later got so engrossed with coding and software design that I decided to major in computer science. I spent hours behind my computer designing, developing, and maintaining computer software for Sony Entertainment until I met one of my childhood friends who reminded me of how terrific an actor I was growing up. I decided to give it a try, and here we are. I still code and develop software during my free time, but for fun.

12. Tell Us About Any Of Your Hidden Talents Possess That Most People Do Not Know About

Most people don’t know that I am a pro basketball player. I started playing basketball at the tender age of 6. My brother played for the NBA, giving me everything I needed to hone my dribbling and shooting skills. I almost joined the NBA but thought against it at the last minute, choosing acting instead. I still play basketball with friends and family over the weekend for fun. I can also sing as well as act. Those two are just a few of my talents.

13. What Charity Work Or Causes Are You Currently Involved In?

Those who follow me on social media know that I am currently involved in several charities. I started my charity organization #givepoorkidsachance, which raises money for students interested in film but lack enough resources to pay for film education. We have managed to place over 15000 students in film schools all over the country, so you can expect skilled and highly talented actors on your screen in a few months or years. I also love animals and ardently support the Defenders of Wildlife, Save the Elephants, and International Rhino Foundations.

14. What Would You Have Been If You Didn’t Become An Actor/ Musician/ Model/ Dancer?

I would have been a software developer since I majored in computer science in college. I would be currently working with other developers to design flowcharts and algorithms, gather and evaluate user feedback, produce clean and efficient codes to meet user specifications, verify and deploy different systems and programs, and debug and upgrade software systems. Given my fascination with fast cars and rugged terrain driving, I would have alternatively been a rally driver. All in all, I would be doing something fun.

15. Do You Have A Favorite Author?

I love reading, so I have several authors I would term favourites. The first is Charles Bukowski, one of the best storytellers I have encountered in my reading life. The way he talks about his past life in a funny and equally sad way is simply breathtaking. I also love John Grisham, an excellent author of law-related novels. I would love to meet him and understand how he thinks and does his stuff in real life. I also love Bertold Brecht and Shakespeare, whose works I started reading at a young age.

16. Who Is Your Favorite Celebrity

I fell in love with Denzel Washington shortly after watching Malcolm X. His acting was breathtaking, considering that he had to read everything about Malcolm before the film. I have followed him since then, and all I can say is that he is outstanding both in his personal and screen life. I almost shed a tear when I learned that he was the anonymous person who paid for Chadwick Boseman’s college fees so that he could pursue acting. Not only is his acting excellent, but he has also managed to touch lives in real-life.

17. Do You Work Out? How Often?

I work out 5 times a week, mainly in the morning. It’s pretty challenging to withstand the pressure of being a celebrity if your body and mind are not in perfect condition, which explains my workout routine. I also love outdoor activities, so I go hiking with friends occasionally. I recently started jogging around the neighbourhood in the evening, a thrilling routine.

18. Are You The Only Child, Or Do You Have Other Siblings?

I am not the only child; my siblings are just successful at escaping the media. They are so good at it that one can pass here without you noticing. Anyway,  I have five siblings, three brothers, and two sisters. My eldest brother is a law professor at a major university. My second sibling is a software engineer working at a major firm in Silicon Valley. We also have a nurse, a music director, and a neurosurgeon, who decided to take after my father. I’m close with them since we were always taught to love and look out for each other.

19. Who Was Your Hero Growing Up?

Batman, definitely. I loved how Bruce Wayne, the Batman, left a comfortable life as a billionaire to defend the less privileged of Gotham when he could have just left and settled anywhere of his choosing after his parents’ death. It’s also refreshing how he managed to win the love of Detective Gordon and Lucious Fox, who helped him advance his positive agenda for Gotham. Lastly, I grew fond of Alfred Pennyworth, his butler, who took care of him after the tragic death of his parents, which he had to witness.

20. Which Country Would You Relocate To If You Had The Chance?

I would relocate to Fiji in a heartbeat. I have read extensively about Fiji and even watched videos on the same, and I’m confident I would find abundant peace in Fiji. A few reasons I would move to Fiji include the warm and welcoming natives, tropical sea shored riddles with palm trees, over 300 islands forming an archipelago, world-class rugby- a sport close to my heart, luxury at a discount, easily accessible fresh food and abundant peace and tranquillity that is hard to find living on the city. In fact, my plan later in life is to buy land and settle in Fiji.

21. If You Had The Chance To Have Dinner With Anyone In The World, Who Would It Be?

I’d choose Warren Buffett over anyone alive. Despite being an inspiration to investors and even business college professors, he was rejected from Harvard Business School , later getting his Master’s in Economics degree at Columbia University. He is also not a picky individual owing to his breakfast option at McDonald, which I find mind-blowing. Instead of spending his money on islands, villas, and vacation properties like other billionaires, Buffet has lived in the same house for close to seven decades. Lastly, he prefers using reduced-priced cars, which are foreign to several billionaires.

22. What Three Things Would You Bring With You If You Were On A Deserted Island?

I have heard interviewers ask other celebrities this question, but I haven’t considered it. Anyway, I love reading and would therefore bring a book with a collection of stories or a shelf full of books if that counts as one thing, my guitar to help me handle the boredom, and a knife for hunting purposes. The knife would also help me fight away predators, assuming the island has some.

23. What TV Show Are You Currently Watching?

I am currently watching two TV shows: Banshee and The Blacklist. I am a big fan of James Spader, who I consider one of the best actors alive, so Blacklist has always been my comfort show. I also find Anthony Starr, who stars as Lucas Hood in Banshee, highly talented. I got hooked on Banshee the moment I completed the first episode. I also occasionally watch and rewatch sitcoms such as The Office, Friends, and Two and a Half Men during the day.

24. What Is Your Favorite Color?

As unbelievable as it sounds, I don’t have a favourite colour. I only have colours I am not fond of, such as maroon, red and yellow. Most of my clothes come in dark colours, such as navy blue, black and brown. I also love white since it can be worn with any colour. All I can say to answer your question is that I love colours with dark shades. Expect to find me wearing black pants and a grey shirt on more than one occasion.

25. Which Food Do You Love Most?

I am simple, so you’ll be shocked if you expect all those foods with funny names. I love rice and beans, which has been my favourite combo from a tender age. I would pick a well-prepared meal of rice and beans over any exotic meal in the world. I also love well-prepared freshwater fish. All in all, I am not a picky eater, and I’m open to trying different meals. Who knows? Maybe I’ll be able to finally find one that beats rice and beans, which is my comfort meal now.

26. How Do You Cope With The Pressure And Expectations Of Being A Celebrity?

I think the most important thing is to stay true to yourself and your values. I don’t let the fame or the opinions of others define me or my worth. I also try to surround myself with positive and supportive people who understand me and respect my privacy. I also practice self-care and mindfulness to cope with stress and anxiety.

27. What Are Some Of The Most Memorable Moments Or Experiences You’ve Had In Your Career?

There are so many, but I’ll share a few. One of them was when I won my first award and got to thank my fans and family on stage. That was a very emotional and rewarding moment for me. Another one was when I met one of my idols and got to collaborate with them on a project. That was a dream come true for me. And another one was when I traveled to a different country and got to experience a different culture and connect with the local people. That was very eye-opening and inspiring for me.

28. How Do You Balance Your Professional And Personal Relationships?

It’s not easy, but I try to make time for both. I have a schedule that helps me organize my work and personal commitments. I also communicate with my loved ones and let them know how much I appreciate them and their support. I also try to keep some aspects of my personal life private and away from the media. I think it’s important to have some boundaries and respect for yourself and others.

29. What Are Some Of The Causes Or Issues That You Are Passionate About Or Support?

I’m passionate about many causes and issues, but some of the ones that I actively support are environmental protection, human rights, mental health awareness, and education. I think these are very important and urgent issues that affect everyone and need more attention and action. I use my platform and influence to raise awareness and funds for these causes and to encourage others to get involved and make a difference.

30. How Do You Deal With Criticism Or Negative Feedback?

I try to take criticism or negative feedback as an opportunity to learn and improve. I don’t take it personally or let it affect my self-esteem. I also try to filter out the constructive criticism from the hateful or malicious comments. I don’t pay attention to the trolls or the haters who are just trying to bring me down. I focus on the positive feedback and the compliments that I receive from my fans and my peers. I also remind myself of my achievements and my goals and how far I’ve come.

You have probably done tens if not hundreds of interviews as of now. However, the questions keep changing, meaning you should always be prepared. We have covered some recommendations to help you ace your upcoming interview. We wish you all the best and remember not to overshare.

Celebrities are considered to be at the top of the social food chain, especially with the online following they have.

But should you talk about celebrities in conversations? Wouldn’t that make the conversation a shallow, boring one? The surprising answer is yes. Here’s what Daniel Kruger, a University Of Michigan psychologist said :

“One is just learning what high-status individuals do so you might more effectively become one, and two, it’s basically political. Knowing what is going on with high-status individuals, you’d be better able to navigate the social scene.”

That’s why celebrities are great conversation fodder no matter where you go.

In this article, I will share a list of celebrity-related conversation starters and questions to help you spark conversations and keep conversations going.

  • Who was your favorite celebrity as a kid?
  • Who’s your favorite celebrity and why? (Note: you could specify further by asking about their favorite actor, singer, etc.)
  • Which celebrity do you no longer admire?
  • Who’s your non-celebrity role model?
  • Who do you look up to in your career/life? How have they influenced you?
  • If you bumped into your favorite celebrity, what would be the first thing you say?
  • In your culture, is there a celebrity that more people should know about?
  • In your niche, who’s the celebrity that everyone quotes?

The upside and downside of fame

  • Would you ever want to be famous? Why?
  • What would you want to be famous for?
  • Would you rather be famous or happy?
  • Would you rather be rich but unknown or famous but poor?
  • Would you rather have a million fans or ten people who love you?
  • Would you rather have one year of worldwide fame or ten years of countrywide fame?
  • If you could be any celebrity for a day, who would it be? What would you do?
  • If you were a celebrity, how would you live your life differently? What would be the first thing you do?
  • How would fame change who you are as a person?

  • Would you ever date a celebrity? Why or why not?

Questions to ask your fav celebrity

OK, let’s just say you had the honor to interview your favorite celebrity. What would you ask them? And how could you make them go “wow, that’s a great question”?

Based on my experience interviewing successful CEOs and experts, here’s a list of questions I brainstormed and sourced:

  • How did you become who you are today?
  • Who’s your celebrity?
  • What’s something that you wish more people knew about you?
  • What do people misunderstand about you? What would you say to them?
  • What’s your greatest struggle?
  • What’s the one message you want to share with the world before you die?
  • If you could change careers for a day, what would you want to do?
  • What’s one question that you wished you were asked? (h/t: Dennis Yu , CEO of Blitzmetrics)

Note: these questions won’t ever replace pre-interview research. It’s through research that you discover important moments in the celebrity’s career and life that are worth going deeper into. Here’s what Jeremy Weisz , a top interviewer, said:

“When I had the founder of Atari on [my podcast], I had learned that when he was Steve Jobs’ mentor, Steve offered him 33 percent of Apple for 50k and he turned it down… So I asked one question: Why?  The point is, I did deep research, which allowed me to find a past moment that I was curious about and ask them about that…what’s a lesson they learned or anything they’d do differently”

When and how to use these questions

  • Ask one question at a time. Gauge their response before going deeper. If they seem disinterested in the topic, switch to something else instead.
  • Balance between asking and talking. Make sure that you share your answer to the same question, or comment on their answer, so that the conversation doesn’t become an interrogation 🙂 I’ve been guilty of that.  Related article: 6 ways to keep a conversation going without asking too many questions
  • Most importantly, modify the questions based on what feels most natural. Different people have different ways of saying the same thing, after all.
