The Case Study of Vanitas is a manga written and drawn by Jun Mochizuki, known for writing Pandora Hearts . It has been published since December 2015 in Square Enix’s Monthly Gangan Joker magazine and ten volumes have been released as of May 20, 2022. An anime adaptation by Bones studio is broadcast between July and September 2021, followed by a second part between January and April 2022. In this article, we are going to tell you everything you need to know about a potential second season of The Case Study of Vanitas .

The third season of The Case Study of Vanitas still hasn’t been confirmed yet. The second season ended not long ago and although we haven’t received any news of a third season, the situation seems quite good for The Case Study of Vanitas at this moment . Still, The Case Study of Vanitas is a very popular series, and based on all the known facts, a third season is highly probable. We just don’t know when.

The rest of this article is going to bring you all the known and unknown information related to ta potential season three of The Case Study of Vanitas . You’re going to find out about its release date, whether there is a trailer, what the story could be about, the basic cast information, and much more about this intriguing anime series.

The Case Study of Vanitas Season 3 release date

The work is published monthly in the magazine Gangan Joker since December 22, 2015, having its chapters collected in tankōbon format. The series has been published simultaneously in English by the publisher Yen Press since its inception and has already been officially translated into several languages such as French, Polish, Korean and Chinese.

The anime adaptation of The Case Study of Vanitas was announced at the end of the 2021 edition of the AnimeJapan event, being produced out by Studio Bones (in partnership with Aniplex) with direction by Tomoyuki Itamura, script by Deko Akao and character design by Yoshiyuki Ito. The opening theme, “Sora to Utsuro”, is performed by singer Sasanomaly, and the ending song, “0 (zero)”, is by LMYK. The soundtrack is composed by Yuki Kajiura.

will there be season 3 of case study of vanitas

At a preview event for the first episode, held on June 5, other cast names were revealed and there was confirmation that the first season of the anime would be divided into two parts, with the first having its premiere date set for July 2, 2021. As an anime promotion strategy, the Bones studio opted for a project to launch ten short videos featuring characters and plot concepts to the sound of Kajiura’s compositions, in addition to a countdown calendar on the official website with recordings of lines from the cast.

The series was licensed for international distribution by the Funimation streaming service and had a special presentation at the Aniplex Online Fest 2021 event on July 4, showing the steps in the anime’s production process. On July 12, Funimation announced that the anime would get simultaneous dub with a delay of only 4 weeks with Japan. What does all of this tell us about the third season?

Taking all of this into account, The Case Study of Vanitas future seems very bright, despite the current no-news break. The source works are, as we have said, quite popular, as was the anime series, and the fact that the franchise has a large fanbase, combined with the fact that we have seen a second season relatively recently, makes us very hopeful. In any case, the earliest we could see a potential second season is 2023, but a more realistic scenario is either late 2023 or even 2024, if it even happens.

The Case Study of Vanitas Season 3 trailer

You now know all the facts and our thoughts related to The Case Study of Vanitas Season 3, which means that you’ve probably deduced for yourselves that there is no trailer for the third season of The Case Study of Vanitas . This is because we do not know whether there will even be a third season of the show, which means that a trailer might not appear at all. But, based on all the information we have, this does not seem like a likely outcome.

As we have said, The Case Study of Vanitas is a very likely candidate for a return. The ongoing manga series still has more material up for adapting and the anime is quite popular as well, enormously so, in fact. Still, we have to wait and see whether there are actual plans for a continuation before we can make a proper prediction. Be that as it may, The Case Study of Vanitas is currently on a short break until we get more information on the show’s future.

Taking into account everything we’ve said, a trailer for The Case Study of Vanitas is unlikely to come out this year. The earliest we could see a trailer is 2023, but we would have to get confirmation of a second season sometime during 2022 or early 2023 for that to happen.

The Case Study of Vanitas Season 3 plot

At this moment, we do not know which parts of the ongoing manga series are going to be adapted in Season 3. Namely, the first two seasons of the anime had only 24 episodes and a very self-contained adaptation schedule, which means that there are a lot more chapters to adapt. But, at this moment, we cannot really speculate as to what would be the content of season 3. What follows is a general overview of the show’s plot, in order to give you a general idea of what to expect from the series if you decide to watch it at one point.

Late 19th century. Paris is in turmoil following repeated attacks by vampires. However, the golden rule of their community is not to attack humans! A mysterious evil seems to be eating away at these immortal creatures. It was during this troubled period that Noah arrived in the capital. Born a bloodsucker, he follows in the footsteps of the grimoire of Vanitas, a legendary artifact feared by all vampires.

It is said to allow its holder to interfere with what is most sacred to them: the true name, the very symbol of their life. Modifying it can drive them mad, even annihilate them… Aboard the huge floating vessel he has embarked on, Noé meets Amelia. As he helps her recover from an illness, everything goes into overdrive: she loses her mind and reveals her vampire nature in front of the passengers!

That’s when a mysterious assailant enters the scene, introducing himself as Vanitas! In front of a speechless Noah, he pulls out the famous grimoire and soothes the young woman’s fit of madness. So the artifact would not just be a deadly weapon?

The Case Study of Vanitas Season 3 cast

It’s still too early for us to discuss a potential third season of The Case Study of Vanitas in terms of cast and characters, simply because we do not know whether there will even be a third season. But, seeing how we know that the series is going to have a more-or-less fixed cast, we really don’t expect to see too many changes in the structure of season three, if it ever happens. Now, the main characters that have appeared in seasons one and two, likely to return for a third season, include:

  • Noé the Archivist Japanese voice: Kaito Ishikawa A vampire who has just arrived in Paris to search for the mysterious book of Vanitas and discover its true nature. Last descendant of a clan of vampires with the power to read the memories of those whose blood they suck, the Librarians. He was taken in by a famous vampire aristocrat nicknamed “The Inconsistent”.
  • Vanitas Japanese voice: Natsuki Hanae A human who wants to save the vampires, he is also the heir to the book of Vanitas, the vampire of the blue moon, who transmitted his powers to him by biting him. He is a very jovial character, but very mysterious, whose true intentions are difficult to detect. It is described by Noah as a “living paradox”.
  • Lucius ‘Luca’ Oriflamme Japanese voice: Shino Shimoji A young vampire and Grand Duke, he is the nephew of Lord Rudven and seeks the means to save his brother, Loki, apparently cursed bearer. He is accompanied by Jeanne, his bodyguard.
  • Jeanne Japanese voice: Inori Minase Vampire and executioner – that is to say one of the people responsible for killing vampires with a curse – in the service of Lord Ruthven, and often accompanying Luca to protect him. Nicknamed “the incendiary witch”, she is a legendary figure who sided with humans during the war, slaying thousands of vampires. Asleep for years, she was awakened by Lord Ruthven. She uses as a weapon a scarlet gauntlet called “Carpe Diem”.
  • Lord Ruthven Japanese voice: Toshiyuki Morikawa A vampire Member of the Senate, uncle and guardian of Lucius/Luca, he played an important role in ending the previous war between vampires and humans. But it seems to be hiding something darker.
  • Dominique de Sade Japanese voice: Ai Kayano Vampire and granddaughter of the teacher who adopted Noé, so she is his childhood friend. She comes from a famous family of vampires, the “de Sade”.
  • Dante Japanese voice: Tarō Kikuchi A dhampir (half human half vampire) who plays the role of informant, and sometimes teammate, for Vanitas who nicknames him “egg skull”.
  • Amelia Rousse Japanese voice: Noriko Shitaya A cursed vampire. Bearer of curses. She meets Noé at the beginning of the adventure and will be saved by him and Vanitas. She works at the favorite hotel, where Noah and Vanitas stay.
  • Roland Fortis Japanese voice: Kengo Kawanishi A Hunter of the Church (their mission is to kill vampires in the name of God) who first wants to save Vanitas from the grip of vampires. He ends up befriending Noah.
  • Chloe D’Apcher Japanese voice: Rie Kugimiya Nicknamed the “Hidden D’Apcher Vampire”, she has been a hidden vampire since the Babel Incident. She will later meet Jean-Jacques, another vampire with whom she will befriend. She is a century-old vampire with a childish appearance who seems quite mysterious.
  • Jean-Jacques Chastel Japanese voice: Daiki Hamano, Makoto Koichi (young) The vampire friend of Chloé who will collect Noé, he also seems to have a dark secret.
  • Mikhail Japanese voice: Mikako Komatsu A young man having been the guinea pig of Dr. Moreau at the same time as Vanitas under the name of “number 71”, his mother was a prostitute who was killed by a vampire. He was rescued by the hunters, more particularly by Roland who executed the vampire before his eyes. His relationship with Vanitas is ambiguous since he nicknames him Onii-Chan and seemed to love him as such from the time of their childhood but he now seems ill-intentioned towards him. He prefers to be called “Misha”.

Where to watch The Case Study of Vanitas Season 3?

At this moment, as expected, there is no means of watching The Case Study of Vanitas season three, as there is no season three of The Case Study of Vanitas to watch. The first two seasons were streamed globally by Funimation, one of the two best anime-focused sites on the internet, so we’re practically certain that a third season would also be streamed via Funimation (and Crunchyroll).

Will there be a The Case Study of Vanitas Season 4?

The future of The Case Study of Vanitas is, as of this moment, unknown. At this moment, we don’t really know anything about a third season, so whether we’ll be seeing the fourth season or not is still unknown. The series has done well and there is still a lot of material to adapt, which is a good sign for fans of The Case Study of Vanitas , but we are going to have to wait and see how the situation with season three evolves to know more about a potential season four, although it is likely.

Vanitas and Noé Archiviste head out to the town of Gévaudan in search of the "Beast," an enormous wolf-like creature that has slaughtered hundreds of people. Suspecting that the Beast is a curse-bearing vampire, Vanitas primarily aims to heal it using the powers of his grimoire.

Along the way, the two get separated and suddenly travel back to the past—to the exact moment the Beast is lurking in the woods. After a battle against the gigantic wolf and a vampire hunter, Vanitas decides to team up with Jeanne in order to find Noé. Despite being allies, Jeanne's goal is the opposite of Vanitas', as she was tasked to kill the Beast—suspecting it may be someone she used to know.

Meanwhile, a severely wounded Noé is picked up by the mysterious Chloé d'Apchier and her servant. Like Noé, Chloé is a vampire whose existence was erased from the public's knowledge. She has been a guardian for future generations and once tried to find a way to become human again. While Noé is grateful to Chloé for her hospitality, little does he know that she might be siding with forces far more dangerous than the Beast itself.

The Case Study Of Vanitas Part 2 - What We Know So Far

Vanitas from The Case Study of Vanitas

On Aug. 6, the English-dubbed version of "The Case Study of Vanitas" arrived at Funimation's website , bringing the steampunk-styled supernatural mystery manga series to life for a whole new audience. The vampire -based anime, set in Paris of the 19th century, is very atmospheric, what with its airships, period clothing and blue-moon and crimson vampires. It starts with the young vampire Noé, who is asked by his teacher to go to Paris to look for the titular book. In an incident on the airship, he meets a girl named Amelia — who turns out to be a vampire named Florifel, who just needs her name returned to her — and blue-eyed Vanitas himself. Vanitas enlists his help in changing the "curse-bearing" vampires back to normal using the grimoire in question.

"The Case Study of Vanitas" has aired 12 episodes of its split-cour season, which is normal for anime shows — but now leaves fans to wonder when Part 2 will happen, and what will happen going forward, since the series hasn't exactly concluded its plot. If you're one of the fans anxiously awaiting news of the second part of the first season, here's what we know so far.

When is the release date for The Case Study of Vanitas Part 2?

Vanitas and Noe in The Case Study of Vanitas

The @vanitas_anime Twitter account announced on Sept. 17 that the second cour (or quarter of a year) of "The Case Study of Vanitas" is coming in January 2022. This is good news, as it means fans won't have too long to wait:  Anime News and Facts is reporting that the 12 episodes in the second part of the split-cour series will air between Jan. 8 and March 26, 2022. It should be noted that these dates refer to the Japanese release, not the English one.

However, English-speaking fans shouldn't experience too much of a delay. The initial Japanese run premiered on various channels starting July 2 ( via Anime News Network ), which means it was subtitled with the first episode dubbed by the time it released on Funimation a little over a month later. Comingsoon.com said that Funimation had released five dubbed episodes by September 17 (a paid subscription is required to access the dubbed versions of newer episodes).

Hopefully, that means U.S. fans will be streaming at least a subtitled second part of Season 1 by springtime.

Who are the characters in The Case Study of Vanitas Part 2?

Luca and Jeanne meet Noe and Vanitas

The main characters of the series include Noé Archiviste, played in the Japanese by Kaito Ishikawa, and Vanitas (not the original of the book), played by Natsuki Hanae. Supporting characters include Jeanne (Inori Minase), a vampire girl also called the "Hellfire Witch"; Luca (Shino Shimoji), a polite vampire boy ranking just below the queen, who is trying to save his brother; Dominique (Ai Kayano), the aristocratic daughter of the alien lord the Marquis de Sade; Veronica (Yoko Hikasa), Dominique's sister who hates humans; Ruthven (Toshiyuki Morikawa), Luca's uncle and the hero who brokered peace between humans and vampires.

Others include Dante (Taro Kuichi), Johann (Koji Yusa), and Richie (Riho Kuma), Vanitas' information brokers, and Noé's unnamed teacher (Akira Ishida), the one who sent him to find the book. Vampire Naenia (Kaori Nazuka), vampire hunter Laurent (Kengo Kawanishi), Holy Knight Olivier (Tomoaki Maeno) and Noé's first friend Louis de Sade (Miyuri Shimabukuru) also appear. There's also the cat, Murr (Miyu Komaki). Not all have survived Season 1, though, so they won't necessarily appear in Part 2.

The English dub cast of the series includes Stephen Fu as Noe, Zeo Robinson as Vanitas, Marianne Bray as Murr, Ian Sinclair as Dante, and Hayden Daviau as Amelia.

What is the plot of The Case Study of Vanitas Part 2?

The grimoire in The Case Study of Vanitas

As the first part of the first season ended, the Beast of Gévaudan has resurfaced, so Noé and Vanitas go to investigate sightings of it. The beast will likely figure largely in the events of the second part of the season, as will Vanitas' relationship with Noé. Viewers may also finally learn the intentions of the secret organization Charlatan because of the big reveal in the end-credits scene. As viewers know, Ruthven figures largely in the plotting that's been going on, and he has hypnotized Noé with Jeanne's unwitting help, which could all blow up in Part 2. Meanwhile, Roland is going through a crisis of faith because he has learned that not all vampires are bad, and the show will no doubt explore the ramifications of that.

"The Case Study of Vanitas" will feature 12 episodes in Season 1 Part 2, making up a total of 24 episodes in the first season. The anime has been rapidly catching up to the manga:  Monsters and Critics predicts that by the 24th episode, the anime will be up to Chapter 43 of the manga. The manga is expected to publish Chapter 61, which means season 2 might be a more difficult sell than the first.
