Sudigali Sudheer is a popular name in the TV industry. He has turned hero for a film called Gaalodu which has hit the screens today. Let’s see how the movie turns out to be.

Sudigali Sudheer is known as Gaalodu in his village as he has absolutely no seriousness in life. He gets into a fight with the village Sarpanch’s son and accidentally kills him. He runs away to Hyderabad and in one incident, he helps the heroine played by Gehna Sippy. Impressed by this, she puts him as her driver and also falls in love with him. But like in all movies, the heroine’s father gets upset and tries to stop the affair. How does the couple come out of this is the story of the film.

Plus Points:

The film is a regular love story but Sudigali Sudheer stands out. He is superb and has solid screen presence. Everyone will be shocked to see dance in the film. He is as good as a star hero when it comes to dances. The mass fights and attitude suit Sudheer quite well and will be liked by many.

Gehna Sunny plays the female lead and she too was also good in her role. She shares good chemistry with the hero. Saptagiri and Shakalaka Shankar were good in their comedy roles.

One of the biggest assets of the film is the music by Bheems Ciciroleo. All the songs are superb and have also been shot quite well. The climax fight is styled well.

Minus Points:

The film has absolutely no story and is weak in the emotional department. The entire first half has no story as the hero introduction and mass shots bore the audience. They look good on Sudheer but are dragged for no reason.

The director decided to showcase Sudheer in a mass manner which sounds good but is taken to the extreme level and it looks over the top. There was absolutely no need of so much hero elevation in so many scenes and this makes the audience bore.

The actual plot is water thin and there are no twists and turns in the movie. The heroine’s father is key and the actor chosen is very dull. The same is the case with the main villain as well.

The heroine falls for an unethical hero and the reason for her to go crazy on him has not been established well. Also, the climax is rushed and the court scenes look outright silly after a while. The film has no seriousness at all in the first half.

Technical Aspects:

As said earlier, music by Bheems is just amazing and so was his BGM. The locales chosen for songs and the choreography was also impressive. The dialogues and camera work were also neat along with the production values.

Coming to the director Rajasekhar, he has done a poor job with the film as his narration is lack lustre. The concentration that he put on music, dance and fights is good but the rest goes for a toss. The film has no emotion and weak supporting cast derail the film.

On the whole, Gaalodu is silly action drama that has nothing new to showcase. Sudigali Sudheer is the only solace as he is superb with his dances and mass role. But sadly, the film fails in the other departments and ends as a boring watch this weekend.

My Dear Donga Movie Review: A character-driven comedy-drama that is endearing and dry in equal measures

My dear donga ( 2.5 / 5).

Films centred around underdog protagonists are not uncommon. Just a few weeks ago, we revelled in the stumbling attempts of Sachin in  Premalu , as he struggled to find love and a direction in life. More often than not, these characters have something going for them. They come with quirks that set them apart. The more imperfect they are, the more interesting their journey becomes.

Director: B S Sarwagna Kumar

Cast: Abhinav Gomatam, Shalini Kondepudi, Divya Sripada, Nikhil Gajula, Sashaank Manduri

Streamer: AHA Sujatha (Shalini Kondepudi), the protagonist of  My Dear Donga , does not belong to that club. She is just… a regular young woman. She has nearly made peace with playing second fiddle in her own life, despite her penchant for breaking the fourth wall regularly with her inner monologues. Her ordinariness stands out more so because, for a large portion of the first half, we see her play second fiddle in other people’s lives as well. That gaze is undeniably palpable in the film's early scenes, like when her best friend Bujji (Divya Sripada) gets a proposal or when Sujatha catches her boyfriend Vishal lying to her.  It’s only when we see Sujatha seated in front of a television, getting all emotional in the privacy of her home, hearing a song from a Mani Ratnam movie, that we first see her in her own world, being her true self. Amidst all the well-timed humour, the pathos of Sujatha rings true, and Shalini Kondepudi sells us the portrayal of this plain Jane prototype, who has nothing going for her.

So when Sujatha, an emotionally anxious copywriter, gets a uniquely surprising visit on her birthday eve—from a small-time thief named Suresh (Abhinav Gomatam), big changes in her life follow as he ends up becoming an integral component of her life. Little vignettes of conversational humour keep  My Dear Donga  on its toes. In an outrageous moment, as Sujatha and Suresh bond over their similar past of dealing with a distant father figure, the talk ascends to a point where they begin to wonder if their father is indeed the same person. As they utter different names at once, Suresh breathes a sigh of relief. The tragedy instantly defuses into comedy, as they realise they too have something to be grateful for, despite nursing such wounded pasts.

Despite these moments and many scenes with madcap energy, it takes you little time to manoeuvre a film like  My Dear Donga , which is not the sitcom it promised to be, but instead a tender coming-of-age story, where our protagonist Sujatha finally becomes the main character of her own life after an absurdly chance encounter with a stranger. The unfortunate part is that the film fails to find a sweet spot between its humour and poignance. My Dear Donga  surprises us by not going for a conventionally affirmative ending when we know where things are headed. It’s a brave choice to wrap up the narrative the way Shalini does here. The scenes get easier on the laughs and focuses more on emotional resolutions when it’s time for Sujatha to find a little steadiness in her life. The humour takes a backseat, both for Sujatha and the viewers. We just know Sujatha is a different person now, and we can only be grateful for it.  But again, a switch between humour and warmth is not an easy one, and  My Dear Donga  constantly tumbles as it tries to hit the right note. We find ourselves in conflict on whether to surrender to the film’s gentleness or be put off by its rickety staging. The breaking of the fourth wall is interesting, but it gets jaded after a point.

Shalini Kondepudi (who has also written the film) gives her everything to make this film work, but her efforts are undone by other departments that don’t rise to the occasion. My Dear Donga needed a better director. There are many jokes that do land well, but there are also an equal number of moments that pass us by without a chuckle. Also, it’s not often that a film’s low production scale bothers me, but  My Dear Donga ’s distant two shots and underlit frames really stuck in the craw. I was particularly bewildered by Sujatha’s darkly lit face in a crucial confrontational scene in the final act. How can it be easy to emotionally invest in a narrative when we find ourselves trying to see the protagonist’s face? (Credit goes here to Shalini, who keeps us invested nonetheless with her raw yet earnest portrayal of Sujatha.) When director B S Sarwagna Kumar is not impeded by his technical limitations or his struggles to find the right tonality, he keeps up with the script’s ambitions, capturing the mundane awkwardness of real-life relationships. Bujji, Varun, and Vishal—the people who occupy space in Sujatha’s life—are not on-your-nose comic relief figures. They carry an ordinariness just enough to have our empathy, with a touch of self-delusion that makes them funny. When Sujatha and her friends casually begin to dance at a house party, it has no artifice. There is no zealous attempt by anyone to bring the house down. Everyone dances with a unique energy, and it is the incongruity of this energy that resonates. At another point, two newly-formed friends awkwardly talk about the day’s weather, soon pondering about the temperature the day before, turning too analytical for their own good. It’s embarrassing to others around them, but a sweet bonding moment for the two, and the director deftly captures the tenderness of the moment, without losing out on the humour. It’s these moments of laidback charm where  My Dear Donga  shines the brightest. And while there is a lot to complain about here, there is also enough warmth that makes it hard to dismiss  My Dear Donga  in its entirety.

'Hello' Review: Say Hello to Akhil

hello movie review greatandhra

Movie: Hello Rating: 3/5 Banner: Annapurna Studios Cast: Akhil Akkineni, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Jagapathi Babu, Ramya Krishna, Ajay, Satya Krishnan, Anish Kuruvilla, and others Music: Anup Rubens Cinematography: P S Vinod Editing: Prawin Pudi Art: Rajeevan Action: Bob Brown Producer: Akkineni Nagarjuna Director: Vikram K Kumar Release date: December 22, 2017

Akhil Akkineni’s second film has been in the news for a long time. The film caught everyone's attention when the interesting teaser came out.

Directed by Vikram Kumar, who is considered as one of the best directors of today’s times, ‘Hello’ has been the most-awaited film this season.

Let’s find out if it meets the expectations...

Story: The film’s story is rather thin, but simple. As it was outlined in the trailer, an orphan Seenu becomes Avinash (Akhil) when Ramya Krishna and Jagapathi Babu adopt him.

Seenu meets a girl during his childhood and believes she’s the love of his life. Fifteen years pass, he is still waiting to meet her again.

Priya (Kalyani) enters his life by chance. She is the soul mate that he has been waiting for. But destiny has other plans. He doesn’t know Priya is the same 'Junnu' that he is looking for. Meanwhile, he loses his mobile phone which is key to get to Junnu aka Priya.

How do they unite?

Artistes’ Performances: Akhil Akkineni in his second film has shown some improvement as far as acting skills are concerned. But he has excelled in action stunts than in acting. The stunts are different from the regular Indian movies and Akhil has pulled it off brilliantly.

Newcomer Kalyani Priyadarshan, daughter of director Priyadarshan and actress Lissy, is likeable. She is good talent. We can’t believe this is her first film.

Ajay as the main villain is hardly seen in the movie. Ramya Krishna and Jagapathi Babu as parents are okay.

Technical Excellence: Vikram Kumar’s movies are always rich with technical values. P S Vinod has captured the frenetic action stunts brilliantly. He has made the entire film look gorgeous and beautiful.

Action stunts are completely novel as they are composed by Hollywood’s famous stunt master Bob Brown. The chases are of international standard.

Music by Anup is excellent. Dialogues are simple and neat. Film has high production values.

Highlights: Action stunts Narration Emotional scenes Cinematography Songs

Drawback: Routine Story Lengthy Child Episode

Analysis After directing heart-touching “Manam” and the clever thriller “24”, director Vikram Kumar has come up with a romantic drama that has high doses of action.

Stories that happen in a day’s time (story point commencing in the morning and ending by night) are not new to Tollywood, but Vikram Kumar has made this convincingly. Although the basic plot happens in a single day, he goes for two flashbacks.

One flashback is about how Akhil, an orphan and Kalyani bond as friends in their childhood. The other flashback involves Akhil and Kalyani accidentally meeting again as adults and liking each other, but they are still are looking for their childhood soul mates.

Amidst this, there is an interesting angle of mobile-theft gang. Vikram Kumar is a master at weaving different threads seamlessly. He has brilliant talent to tell complex stories like ‘Manam’ and ‘24’ so effortlessly and fluently. No wonder that he has merged all three threads here in ‘Hello’.

In the first half, nothing much happens except revealing childhood episodes and how they got separated and how Akhil was adopted by Jagapathi Babu and Ramya Krishna.

The director makes the proceedings more interesting when he makes Priya (Kalyani) and Avinash (Akhil) meet again accidentally and as they start liking each other, the emotional aspect begins to erupt.

Although the entire mobile-theft episode turns out to be damp squib in the end, it definitely adds some novelty to this ‘Manasantha Nuvve’ kind of script.

Vikram Kumar has fascination towards road junctions, meeting points, and time-related themes. He has wholly or partly used all these elements in all of his movies so far. In “Hello” too, the children meet and part at a road junction.

The story happens in specific time period. Generally, movies with theme of destiny depend on tropes like – music bit, a rupee note or a mobile number or a letter, or a gift. In “Hello”, Vikram Kumar has used violin music bit and rupee note to make the lovers unite again.

Vikram Kumar’s brilliant touch is seen in the handling of the scene where Jagapathi Babu and Ramya Krishna ache to get called as mommy and daddy by Akhil than aunt and uncle.

His brilliance is also seen in screenplay writing. Although ‘Hello’ is not on par with his previous best films – ‘Ishq’ and ‘Manam’, it definitely makes an interesting and likeable watch.

For Akhil, this is definitely a re-launch movie. He has scored as hero in this movie. For Kalyani Priyadarshan too, it is a good launch.

On the downside, there is no proper logic for Akhil risking everything to get log history of his call data. Some scenes are overstretched and there is an overdose of sugary emotions.

Overall, ‘Hello’ will be liked for its classy appeal, colourful visuals, new kind of stunts and neat emotions. The film will cater to overseas and A class centers.

Bottom-line: Classy Love Story

Video: 'I'm Not Responsible For GreatAndhra Reviews'

GreatAndhra journalist Murthy had a lengthy conversation with ace film director Harish Shankar in the context of the upcoming release "Mr. Bachchan."

However, the discussion took various turns, and Harish Shankar also interviewed Murthy during the process.

The conversation flowed informally and entertained the audience as both tried to defend each other's professions.

At one point, when the topic of film reviews came up, Murthy clarified that he is in no way responsible for the reviews on GreatAndhra.com and that he never writes such content.

He also spoke candidly about how gossip appears on the site and his responsibility for those write-ups.

Towards the end, Harish Shankar remarked that many youngsters might aspire to become directors like him and questioned if anyone would aim to become a journalist like Murthy. Murthy responded to the question in his own way.

The entertaining talk was a unique face-to-face interaction between a journalist and a film director, where they interviewed each other.

"Hello Guru Prema Kosame" also begins in funny manner. The first half of the movie has lot of fun moments and it ends in jiffy manner. The story begins in Kakinada and moves to Hyderabad. 14. 'Merry Christmas' Movie Review: The Romance We've Been Waiting For

Merry Christmas is a delectable and dark murder mystery with a beautiful love story at its core.
