Deep Rock Galactic: Assignment Missions Deep Rock Galactic guide, tips

This page of the Deep Rock Galactic guide explains what Assignment Missions are and how to complete them.

Last update: 16 January 2022

In this section of the guide, you will find out what are the Assignment Missions in Deep Rock Galactic and how to complete them.

Assignment Missions are tasks that every aspiring miner must complete in order to unlock access to many of the attractions featured in Deep Rock Galactic. What's more, Assignment Missions are an excellent way to get additional raw materials and credits that can be used to improve your equipment or personalize the appearance of your miner.

Depending on the type of Assignment Missions, the player will have to complete a series of several tasks (usually 3 to even 10) for which they will receive a corresponding reward - Deep Rock Galactic: Assignment Missions - General information - Deep Rock Galactic Guide

Depending on the type of Assignment Missions, the player will have to complete a series of several tasks (usually 3 to even 10) for which they will receive a corresponding reward. The first Assignment task is assigned to each player from the beginning and must be completed to unlock access to all types of missions available in Deep Rock Galactic. Next quests are optional and you can get rewards from them, such as access to alternative weapons or unlocking the most difficult threat level (Hazard 5).

How to perform Assignment Missions?

Assignment missions are performed throughout the whole Hoxxes IV planetary system and are associated with various primary objectives. Typically, the player has a specific type of mission to complete in the proper part of space. Also, missions have various difficulty levels, so some should be completed in a group - especially when it comes to hunting extremely dangerous Dreadnoughts.

Assignment Missions are well visible on the main planetary map and are marked by a small white diamond that is shown in the picture above - Deep Rock Galactic: Assignment Missions - General information - Deep Rock Galactic Guide

Assignment Missions are well visible on the main planetary map and are marked by a small white diamond that is shown in the picture above. At the top of the screen you can also notice a mission progress bar which shows that the player is currently on stage 8 and will have a Salvage Operation to perform.

Satisfactory: how to get automated wiring, roblox: blox fruits codes (september 2024), quick links, buying pickaxe parts through dlc, finding pickaxe parts through lost packs, earning pickaxe parts through prestige assignments..

Deep Rock Galactic is an unexpectedly big game, and only growing bigger. The game already had over three million players, and gained a big player base boost with Deep Rock Galactic 's PS5 release .

That being said, it's one thing to get a significant influx of players. It's another thing to keep them playing. Long-term support is important for multiplayer game development, funded by DLC and Deep Rock Galactic 's seasonal events .

RELATED: Deep Rock Galactic: How to Call Supply Drops

One of the ways to ensure player retention is to allow for customization. Making the player's character and gear feel special creates a sense of positive investment. Deep Rock Galactic achieves this through customizable pickaxe parts .

Deep Rock Galactic Pickaxe Customization

Out of the three ways to get pickaxe parts, purchasing them directly through the game's DLC packs is the easiest and most direct. There are six DLC packs that include pickaxe parts and skins: The Supporter Upgrade, The Dark Future Pack, The MegaCorp Pack, The Roughneck Pack, the Dawn of The Dread Pack, and the Rival Tech Pack. At the time of writing, the Supporter Upgrade is $14.99 USD, while each of the others is $7.99 USD.

Lost Packs are a roll of the dice. Deep Rock Galactic 's levels are randomly generated , and each level has a random chance of spawning a Lost Pack, the remaining equipment of a dead miner.

While this doesn't affect the packs' contents, they're more likely to spawn in longer missions. Short missions have a one in ten chance, medium missions have a one in six chance, and long missions have a one in three chance.

Players can find lost packs by listening for the beeping it gives off or finding a pink star on the terrain scanner. Each player gets gold, a crafting material, and either a pickaxe part or an armor paint job when the pack is found.

Assignments are Deep Rock Galactic 's pre-set mission chains . Prestige assignments are four mission assignments that always end with cosmetic items as a reward.

Prestige assignments are locked behind player rank. Heavy Duty is unlocked at Rank 5, Chasm-Borne Cliffhanger is unlocked at Rank 20, Gadgeteer's Favorite is unlocked at Rank 30, Reaper's Claw is unlocked at Rank 50, and Drift Crusher is unlocked at Rank 70. The previous prestige assignment must be completed before the next one can be accessed.

Deep Rock Galactic is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

How To Play

Starting the game for the first time will launch the player immediately into a tutorial. This tutorial is optional and can be exited out of, it can also be revisited at any time using the Launch Tutorial button in the Miner's Manual, under Getting Started > Basics. The tutorial will teach you the basics of the game and specifically the Gunner class.

Upon completing the short tutorial mission, you will be transported onto an orbital space station, the Space Rig . Here you can relax between missions , purchase vanity items and equipment upgrades, begin and abort assignments , or drink at the Abyss Bar .

As a new player, you are required to complete a 10-mission-long assignment, named " Conquer Hoxxes IV ", before you are allowed to access the various planetary regions of Hoxxes IV .

Icons Campaign.png

Once you have completed the "Conquer Hoxxes IV" assignment, you are free to do whatever you want. Visit the various Planetary Regions to mine crafting resources, complete more assignments to unlock new weapons and terminals, purchase cosmetic items to become a fancy dwarf , or face challenging mutators for large Experience and Credit rewards.

Starting A Mission

Dwarven employees are dropped from the Space Rig onto Hoxxes IV to complete a variety of missions . After interacting with the Mission Terminal , you can select which planetary region to complete a mission in, what mission type to complete, and which game mode to play in. Stepping into the Drop Pod after selecting a mission will begin the launch countdown timer, and once it ends, you will be transported to the appropriate cave system to get the job done!

Planetary Regions

Currently Hoxxes IV has ten different areas to explore, with each area having a different look and different challenges to overcome. Only a handful will be available at any given time, with new missions in a different shuffled set of areas available every thirty minutes. In order to upgrade your equipment , you must visit the various regions in order to mine crafting resources from each region. The current planetary regions available are:

Croppa

Mission Types

Once you've selected an area , you'll be given a list of mission types currently available in that area. Each mission has a Primary Objective and a Secondary Objective , as well as a Mission Length and a Cave Complexity. Sometimes two missions of the same type will be offered, but with such different objectives that they will play very differently, so take note! The current Mission Types are:

Mining Expedition icon.png

Mutators are special events which may modify the mission for better, for worse, or for both. These can vary from the dwarves having greatly increased movement speed to exploder infestations. Warnings are negative mutators and anomalies are positive or neutral mutators.

Cave Leech Cluster Warning

Cavern Combat

As you explore the caves you'll encounter various creatures , including Glyphids, flying Mactera, Cave Leeches , Spitball Infectors , and many others. Periodically, Mission Control will announce that they have detected an incoming swarm , and large numbers of enemies will converge on the Dwarven Employees' location for a fight. Make sure you are ready!

Understanding Your Role

A good team can be made up of any combination of Dwarven employees, but it's important to understand what makes each one unique, and how to put their special talents to use to help your team. A well balanced team with good communication will stand a better chance at surviving deep down in Hoxxes IV .

Playing as The Driller

The Driller 's primary responsibility is crowd control with his CRSPR Flamethrower , and using his Reinforced Power Drills to quickly create entrances and staircases to help others access difficult to reach locations or materials. The Driller is also armed with powerful Satchel Charges that can deal huge amounts of damage to his foes. His default throwable is the Impact Axe , capable of dealing significant damage to single targets.

Playing as The Engineer

The Engineer has two powerful support tools, An LMG Gun Platform and a Platform Gun . Set up turrets to defend against swarms of enemy creatures, and use your Platform Gun to provide your team with ground to stand on and platforms to reach high up minerals. Team up with the Scout to reach resources that are high up on cave walls. His default throwable is the L.U.R.E. , capable of attracting the attention of the hostile wildlife .

Playing as The Gunner

The Gunner is equipped with a powered minigun to protect the team from the monsters of the deep. The Gunner's responsibility is all around defense. His Zipline Gun gives the whole team the ability to cross distant chasms and do so with holdable items. The Gunner is also equipped with a Shield Generator that he can throw to protect his team and recharge their shields. His default throwable is the Sticky Grenade .

Playing as The Scout

The Scout collects hard-to-reach ores using his Grappling Hook , and helps defend the team using his Deepcore GK2 and Jury-Rigged Boomstick , and launches flares using his Flare Gun to provide light in the darkness. His default throwable is the Inhibitor-Field Generator which slows down enemies and causes them to take more damage.

Character Rank

Character badge.

As you play each of the game's four classes, you will gain experience and ranks separately for each of the different classes, up to rank 25. Some weapon and equipment upgrades require you to have a certain rank before you can unlock them. Your current rank and experience progress are indicated at the top left of the screen below your Class Badge.

Player Rank

heavy duty assignment deep rock

Your progress as a player is also tracked at the top right of the screen on the Player Badge, the blue gem which shows your name and player rank in title and number form, as well as your current credit balance. You rank up each time the blue gem fills all three of its sections up, and one section fills up each time you gain a rank with one of the four classes.

The player rank titles are as follows:

Rank Title
1 Greenbeard
2 Rock Hauler
3 Cave Runner
4 Stone Breaker
5 Pit Delver
6-7 Rookie Miner
8-9 Authorized Miner
10-11 Senior Miner
12-13 Professional Miner
14-15 Veteran Miner
16-17 Expert Miner
18-20 Elite Miner
21-23 Supreme Miner
24-26 Master Miner
27-30 Epic Miner
31-35 Legendary Miner
36-40 Mythic Miner
41-45 Stone Guard
46-50 Honor Guard
51-55 Iron Guard
56-60 Giant Guard
61-65 Night Carver
66-70 Longbeard
71-75 Gilded Master
76 and onward Lord of the Deep

All dwarves start with a basic set of a primary and a secondary weapon, some grenades , a Pickaxe , throwable flares , basic armor and their respective special tools which are described above.

Usage and ammunition

Your weapons, grenades and special tools work like one would expect: If you fire/throw/use them, you spend ammunition of the respective tool.

Throwable flares refill over time at no cost. If you throw too many you will have to wait a short time until the next one is ready, but you will never have to stay in the dark for too long.

Your pickaxe can be used forever.

Your armor consists of two layers: An energy shield, which gets used up if you take damage but refills slowly if you don't take any more for some time, and the bare skin of your dwarf ( "Hit Points" ) which gets exposed as soon as your shield gets used up completely and can only be healed with Red Sugar and at Resupply Pods .

Improvement

All of your equipment can be improved by buying modifications at the Equipment Terminal . Each object features multiple slots for mods which must be earned by leveling up with the respective class. For most slots multiple mods can be purchased - however, only one mod per slot can be used. This still leaves room for a hefty amount of personalization and improvement. Available mods can be found on the pages of the respective weapons.

Unlocking new gear

Beside the improvement of your starter set, each class has access to two additional primary weapons, one additional secondary weapon and two more grenade types. All of them must be earned and then purchased. While the grenades are only level locked (to prevent greenbeards from playing around with Cluster Grenades ), the weapons must be earned by completing the corresponding assignment.

Update Preview [ ]

Update Changes [ ]

2 new missions [ ], on-site refining [ ].

Management has a new thirst: Liquid Morkite. They are sending you in alongside an On-Site Refinery to fill. Locate the Liquid Morkite wells and hook them up to orbital-insertion industrial Pumpjacks, connect them to the Refinery by building huge, winding pipelines, and pump those deposits dry! Oh, and the good people down in RnD even felt generous enough to build in a handy way to use the pipelines for quick, easy, and SAFE* traversal.

  • Check the clause 3.15 of your contract to read more about the company’s definition of “safe”.

Escort Duty [ ]

In this heavily combat-focused mission you are sent in to obtain a mysterious Ommoran Heartstone! Only the specially built autonomous Drilldozer can make it through the outer shell of the Ommoran and reveal the prize inside: The priceless Ommoran Heartstone. The Drilldozer will land at a safe distance, and then automatically home in on the Ommoran. Your job is to keep the dang thing safe and fueled as it digs its way towards the objective. Guard it with your life, Miners!

New Assignment: Roughnecks At Work [ ]

This new Assignment serves as a crash course in how to safely complete the new missions and make it back alive - and will reward you with some fancy new headwear on completion. What’s not to love?

New Cosmetics [ ]

Attention, fashion freaks! The new fall collection has just dropped with a beautiful selection of new Beards, Headwear, and Hairdos! 27 new Cosmetics have been added to the Shop, 11 new Cosmetics can be forged with Matrix Cores, and 1 new Headwear will be rewarded by completing the new assignment.

New DLC: Roughneck Pack [ ]

If you really want to rough it up, the new Roughneck Pack has you covered. Spice up your looks with four new sets of unique armor (one per class), new helmets, and new Paintjobs. This pack is squarely aimed at those that can’t be bothered dressing up as a space marine, and just want to get stuck into the hard work at hand! Finally, show off those figurative guns - as well as that choice selection of tattoos you’ve kept under wraps for so long!

On top of the Armors, the pack comes with two unique helmets, as well as a new Paintjob for Bosco and your Pickaxe.

Randomize Cosmetic In Wardrobe [ ]

Talking about fashion...if you are one of those persons who can’t decide which helmet to wear or how to style your beard or maybe you are just too afraid to try something new and daring, well….we got great news for you: The Wardrobe has been equipped with new Randomize buttons - Full Outfit as well per Category. Trying out new and unexpected combos has never been easier!

Assignment Board Visual Overhaul [ ]

DRG just invested in a better Assignment Board. Enjoy a fancy and more intuitive layout as you select your next assignment!

Throw Mechanic Changes [ ]

Controls: When carrying gems and other heavy items you can now throw on both [LEFT AND RIGHT MOUSE BUTTON] on PC or [LEFT AND RIGHT TRIGGER] on XBox. We made this change to accommodate the Fuel Canister (used in the Escort Duty mission) which is carried like a gem but also has functionality like a weapon or tool. In the future we could imagine having you find other tools and weapons that could be used in a similar way.

Auto Cancel Throw : If you do not release the throw button after reaching max throwing power the throw will auto-cancel after a short time.

Deep Rock Galactic Beginner’s Guide

Image of Stephanie Tang

The four tenets of dwarven ethos ring true Deep Rock Galactic   from Denmark-based Ghost Ship Games. There’s nothing like getting further down through the deep places than anybody else, especially if there’s treasure down there for the taking.

While it’s not exactly brimming with storied campaign, there’s some solid, super fun gameplay in here that about makes up for the lack of spit and polish. On the surface, the first-person mining elements might superficially resemble the pickaxe action of  Minecraft , but that’s largely where the similarities end.

First-person mining in Deep Rock Galactic

Blending mining for different kinds of sparkly treasure with high-energy bug shooting,  Deep Rock Galactic  puts all of its efforts into making co-op priority number one. Sure, you could run off into the darkness to hunt for stuff (and there will be plenty of games where you’re going to find yourself doing just that), but you’re also just as likely to get overrun and downed that way too.

If you want to make sure every game is a Mission Complete, here’s what you need to know!

Deep Rock Galactic Classes

There are four classes that you can choose from (all are available right away through the Select Character terminal):

Engineer

  • Armed with a platform gun that shoots climbable platforms on any surface.
  • Can lay down sentry turrets for support fire.
  • Carries combat shotgun and grenade launcher.
  • Armed with a minigun and heavy-duty revolver for front-line spider duty.
  • Carries zipline launcher that allows the entire team to zipline across large chasms/obstacles.
  • Equipped with titanium power drills that allow you to drill through blocked tunnels and obstacles to get to your objective (whether it’s getting in or out); you also mine faster.
  • Carries a flamethrower.
  • Carries a flare gun for greater area of light.
  • Equipped with a grappling hook which allows for faster mobility and greater maneuverability.
  • Carries assault rifle and sawed-off shotgun.

It stands to reason that normally  it’s a pretty good idea to bring one of each — and when you’re just getting started, it’s definitely an excellent idea to bring a balanced team while you’re learning all the game modes.

(Be sure to check out our guide on how to find gems in Deep Rock Galactic .)

Deep Rock Galactic Assignment Types

This may sound a little odd, but it’s not exactly something that’s discussed too deeply when you’re in the middle of jumping into a game. Here is an overview of some of the types of assignments you’ll run into over your earlier hours with the game.

Mining Expedition Assignments

Classic digging experience: mine x amount of Morkite plus an optional number of collectibles  ( x  caps out at about 250 Morkite).

  • What you mine sits in your own personal inventory, and what actually brings the counter down is calling over the M.U.L.E. and depositing your hard-earned minerals.
  • This game mode is procedurally generated to be full of different (generally tight) chambers and areas accessible by digging through walls of common dirt.

Search & Extract Assignments

There isn’t really a huge amount of difference between the Mining Expedition and the Search & Extract mission. You will be required to bring back  325 Morkite   plus an optional number of collectibles .

  • This game mode has a higher objective count and will require more hunting, gathering, and digging.
  • The cave is generated randomly but always in a relatively large single chamber. You’ll find that a lot of the minerals you’re trying to get to are located up in walls higher than you are, which will often require some ziplining or platforming to get to.

Point Extraction Assignments

While still a mine and dump kind of mining mission, the biggest difference is that you are hunting for  10 Aquarq plus an optional number of collectibles  but without the benefit of the M.U.L.E., so your miners will have to return to the static rocket site to make your deposits.

  • The  Aquarq  is not out in the open like the Morkite in other mission types; you will need to look for small, blue crystals embedded in the walls and start digging through them to find the large chunk of Aquarq to be deposited. These can’t be added to inventory, you’re going to have to carry it to the rocket in both hands in order to deposit it.
  • If you’re alone, feel free to drop it and take care of the spiders that are likely to swarm. It’ll stay on the ground and roll around some, so keep an eye on where you’ve left it while you’re busy kiting and killing!
  • The cave is procedurally generated to be a large, single cavern with the items deep in walls or high up in pillars.

Collection Assignments

Similar to the above mission type, the difference lies in the layout of the caves again. Plus this time the M.U.L.E. is back in play. To succeed, you need to bring back 10 Eggs and an optional number of collectibles.

  • As with Aquarq, the  Eggs are rarely out in the open. You will need to dig into panels of dirt with squishy-looking red bubbles on the wall to dig out the large eggs buried within.
  • This mode makes it a little easier because you are able to call the  M.U.L.E. to you for the deposit.
  • The caves are randomly generated to be small, multiple chambers accessible to each other by walls of common dirt.

Elimination Assignments

Slightly different from the others (but let’s be honest, there will still be plenty of digging to do), Elimination missions require you to take on some big bosses so heavy firepower is encouraged. You need to  kill 3 targets, plus bring back an optional number of collectibles .

  • Hunt down the large, pulsing Glyphid Cocoons, which will pop under enough firepower and release a large boss-level alien spider to kill.
  • The caves are randomly generated to be in tighter, multiple chambers, with some open (just not enormously open) areas for the Cocoons.

Know your exits

Or, at the very least, how to make your own. After you’ve completed your objectives, there’s still the task of reaching the drop pod to get out of there.

The drop pod can land anywhere, and it’s likely you’re going to have to dig to get there. If you’ve got a Driller in your group, this can be a lot easier. Otherwise it’s probably time to whip out those pickaxes and make your own way.

Other things to keep in mind

  • Don’t hog the M.U.L.E. , especially if you split off to go explore different areas. Other people probably have objective items to drop into it, and it’s really no fun lugging around giant alien eggs that take up a third of your screen forever.
  • There is fall damage . You will fall, and it will hurt.
  • There is friendly fire damage . When engaging in big spider wave battles, be mindful of where you’re firing so you don’t kill your teammates by accident.
  • Just because you aren’t a particular class doesn’t mean you can’t pull your weight. Everyone has a pickaxe, everyone has flares, everyone can dig and explore and shoot things.
  • Keep your eye out for  Cave Leeches ,   particularly in the large cavernous areas. These are long, snake-like creatures that don’t really damage you much but will snatch you up in the air and drop you down to kill you with fall damage. One skinny, little cave worm can down your entire party if they’re not paying attention while trying to revive you.
  • Don’t be afraid to put your cash to good use. Make sure you upgrade your gear between missions at the Upgrade console! If you’ve found rare gems during your adventures, these can be put towards purchasing cosmetic items for your dwarves.
  • Put your Nitra  to good use. Use it to  call down ammo supply drops when you’re running low on supplies.

Those are all the tips we’ve got for you beginner Deep Rock Galactic players. Check out our other Deep Rock Galactic guides here on GameSkinny.
