Education is an effective instrument for the development of women and nation as a whole. It plays an important role in the women’s life which helps them to play many roles in the family and society. Education helps them to bring constructive changes and uplift the society in to higher strata. Half of the population in the world is comprised of women (Suguna, 2011) if women are highly educated then the nation will be highly developed. But, many factors like poverty, unemployment of the parents, child marriages, discrimination, and inequalities prevents them to access education. There are many developments introduced regarding women education by the government of India in comparison from the last few years. Through investing more and giving a statement that education is for all, the government of India is supporting the growth of the country. The government introduced the policy in 2020 named National Education policy that creates an impact in future development of a country. Women constitute almost half of the population of the world. Education for women is the best way to improve the health, nutrition and economic status of a household that constitute a micro unit of a nation economy. In this context, it can be argued that lack of woman education can be an impediment to the country’s economic development. In India, women achieve far less education that of men. As per the Census report 2001, the literacy rate of women is 54.16 per cent and that of men is 65.38 per cent. There has been a sincere effort to improve the education attainment of women by both government and voluntary organizations. India is now a leading country in the field of women's education. Women's education in India has also been a major concern of both the government and civil society as educated women can play a very important role in the development of the country. Education is the target of women's empowerment because it enables them to respond to challenges, face their traditional roles, and change their life. The present paper is an attempt to study the status of women's education in NorthEast states of India. The article uses census data from 2001 and 2011 to look at the total population and literacy rates in eight states in NorthEastern India.(IJMRA-14646 Literacy Rates of North Eastern States, n.d.) Education for All (EFA) program and other many educational programs are providing various facilities to enhance the education for women, so these programs are very helpful to improve the girl's education in India. But the position of girls' education is not improving according to determined parameters for women. To know the present position of women's education, this study was conducted by us. And the study concluded that the rate of women's education is increasing but not in a proper manner.
