Who Is Paris Hilton?

Paris Hilton caught the media's attention after the release of a sex tape in 2003. After starring in The Simple Life , Paris earned a Teen Choice Award for her portrayal in the film House of Wax, and her first book, Confessions of An Heiress, landed on the New York Times best-seller list. She has since made her way in and out of the headlines through her romances, music ventures and television shows like The World According to Paris and Hollywood Love Story .

Early Life and Modeling

Paris Whitney Hilton was born in New York City on February 17, 1981, the eldest child of real-estate developer Richard Hilton and socialite Kathy Richards Hilton. Along with sister Nicky and brothers Barron and Conrad, Hilton is one of multiple heirs to the Hilton hotel fortune.

Hilton spent her childhood moving from one luxury home to another. While living in the family's Beverly Hills mansion, she attended her freshman year of high school at the Marywood-Palm Valley School in California. When the Hilton family relocated to New York City in 1996, she continued her studies at the Dwight School. At this time, the family took up residence in a suite at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in Manhattan and frequently vacationed at a multimillion-dollar home in the Hamptons.

As East Coast transplants, Hilton and her sister regularly attended society functions, charitable events, fashion shows and A-list parties. The two soon became regulars on the red carpet, and a titillating 2000 Vanity Fair spread shot by famed photographer David LaChapelle cemented their burgeoning fame.

Around this time, Hilton signed with Donald Trump 's modeling agency, T Management. She was soon seen in a flurry of campaigns for leading clothing designers such as Christian Dior and Tommy Hilfiger , as well as national publications. Hilton went on to work with other top agencies, including Ford Models Management and London's Model 1 Agency.

New York's 'It Girl' and Early Films

Hilton, who courted regular media attention for her outrageous lifestyle, was christened "New York's leading IT girl" in 2001. Short-lived romances with actor Leonardo DiCaprio and boxer Oscar de la Hoya — as well as callous comments directed at her peers — earned Hilton bad press, and further fortified her reputation for careless jet setting and hard-partying.

Hilton soon tried her hand at acting, making a cameo in Zoolander (2001), Ben Stiller 's feature-length spoof of the modeling world. Over the next few years, she continued split her time between runways and movie sets, appearing in the 2002 horror flick Nine Lives . The following year, she acted in the feature films Wonderland and Cat in the Hat , and began work on her own small-screen reality series.

Sex Tape and 'The Simple Life'

In November 2003, an unauthorized four-minute video of Hilton began to circulate on the Internet; dubbed "One Night in Paris," it featured Hilton engaging in intimate acts with then-boyfriend Rick Salomon. Salomon marketed the video, earning millions in sales, and Hilton filed suit. Although the case was settled out of court, reports stated that Hilton received $400,000 from the video. Additionally, she publicly stated that she had never intended the video to be a commercial venture.

Three weeks after the release of the video, Hilton debuted her first reality television venture on FOX. She partnered with long-time friend Nicole Richie to create The Simple Life , a show that featured the two socialites attempting blue-collar jobs and performing menial tasks. It was feared that Hilton's scandal would ruin ratings and alienate potential audiences, but the show became an enormous success.

Shortly after, Hilton was approached by Guess to appear in three worldwide campaigns. The following month, Hilton made a guest appearance on Saturday Night Live . Her double-entendre-laden interview with Jimmy Fallon poked good-natured fun at the Salomon tape debacle.

Book: 'Confessions of an Heiress'

The following year, Hilton appeared in the big-screen features The Hillz and Raising Helen and began to branch out into other business interests. After founding Heiress Records (a sub-label of Warner Bros.), she released her first book, Confessions of an Heiress: A Tongue-in-Cheek Peek behind the Pose . Written in conjunction with author Merle Ginsberg, the book, despite being widely panned by critics, quickly made its way onto the New York Times best-seller list.

That year, Hilton also busied herself with a perfume line, a nightclub franchise, and the second season of The Simple Life . Although the show secured strong ratings, by 2005, Richie and Hilton had clearly grown apart, and the cause of their split became a matter of public speculation.

While still maintaining her role on the show, Hilton accepted other acting opportunities, including a small but significant role in the horror film House of Wax . Her portrayal earned her the Teen Choice Award for Best Scream, as well as nominations for Choice Breakout and Best Frightened Performance at the MTV Movie Awards.

First Engagement and Album

Focusing on her romantic life, Hilton announced her engagement to Greek shipping heir Paris Latsis in May 2005. The couple called off the nuptials five months later, and Hilton soon began dating Stavros Niarchos III, an heir to a different Greek shipping dynasty. Toward the end of the year, she dabbled in fashion, released her own jewelry line, and published her sophomore writing effort—another collaboration with Ginsberg entitled Your Heiress Diary: Confess It All To Me.

In 2006, Hilton branched into music, releasing her self-titled album on her Heiress label. The record, which peaked at No. 6, featured a range of genres as well as the work of producers including Greg Wells, Kara DioGuardi and Scott Storch. At the same time, Hilton maintained her acting pursuits, and as The Simple Life continued into its fourth season, Richie and Hilton publicly reconciled.

Arrest and Jailtime

While her business endeavors were taking off, Hilton's hard-partying private lifestyle would catch up with her in September 2006, when she was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. Hilton was arrested and placed on probation. The heiress was back in court only a few months later after the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office claimed that she had violated the terms of her probation by driving on a suspended license.

In May 2007, Hilton was sentenced to 45 days in jail—a sentence that was later reduced to 23 days. Hilton reported to the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, California, on the night of June 3, directly after she made an appearance at the 2007 MTV Movie Awards. After serving only three full days in prison, Hilton was released early in the morning on June 7 for unspecified health reasons. The court ordered her to complete her sentence by spending 40 days in home confinement.

Responding to the perception that Hilton was receiving preferential treatment as a result of her celebrity status, a judge ordered Hilton to return to jail. Upon hearing the sentence, Hilton shouted, "It's not right!" and asked for her mother. She was subsequently moved to the medical wing of the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles, and transferred back to the Century Regional Detention Facility on June 13.

Hilton was released from jail on June 26, 2007, serving a total of 22 days in detention. As networks vied for her first post-incarceration interview, the Hilton family drew negative press for attempting to extract a million-dollar fee from Barbara Walters and ABC. A furious Walters refused, and network interest dissipated. Eventually, a reformed Hilton appeared for free on Larry King Live , maintaining that the jail's minister had inspired her to make a "new beginning."

'My New BFF,' 'The World According to Paris'

After five seasons, The Simple Life drew to a close in 2007. Hilton continued to act in big-screen releases — Repo! The Genetic Opera (2008) and The Hottie & the Nottie (2008) — and launched the MTV reality series entitled Paris Hilton's My New BFF .

Hilton seemed to draw the most on-screen attention, however, for her political views. On August 5, presidential hopeful John McCain negatively compared Hilton's celebrity status to that of rival candidate Barack Obama . Hilton retorted with a video on Will Ferrell 's humor-themed funnyordie.com. The media responded positively to her smart, comedic turn.

On the romantic front, Hilton announced her engagement to Good Charlotte guitarist Benji Madden in May 2008. After a nine-month relationship, the two split in November of that same year.

She began dating nightclub owner Cy Waits in 2010. The two had a very public relationship, which was shown in her 2011 Oxygen series, The World According to Paris . Their relationship was filled with drama, with the couple getting arrested for possession of cocaine in Las Vegas (her second drug charge of the year, after being caught with marijuana in Corsica) and Waits having pinned a down an intruder in Paris' house at gunpoint. After nearly a year, their relationship ended in June 2011, one month before the end of The World According to Paris .

DJ and More Music

After the release of several fragrances and stores worldwide, Hilton decided to take her empire in a different direction by steering her career back into music. In early 2012, Hilton announced that she wanted to be a DJ. She made her DJ debut at the Pop Music Festical in Sao Paulo, Brazil, in 2012. Her premiere performance wasn't well received. She then appeared in a Korean pop video by artist Kim Jang Hoon in October 2012.

The following year, to the surprise of many, Hilton prepared for the release of her sophomore album under the Cash Money Records—home of popular hip-hop artists Drake , Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj . Although a completed album never saw the light of day, Hilton released multiple singles over the next few years that enjoyed some success on the dance charts. She also continued to surface on the small screen, appearing on programs like The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills .

'Hollywood Love Story'

After romances with younger boy toys like Spanish model River Viiperi, Hilton settled into a relationship with actor Chris Zylka. The two announced they were engaged during a ski trip to Aspen, Colorado, in early 2018, before calling off their engagement late that year.

In spring 2018, Viceland announced that Hilton would star in a new reality series, Hollywood Love Story , about a group of fame seekers in Tinseltown. In June, she revealed she was teaming with the Boohoo fashion line for a new 70-piece collection, to debut later in the month.

Paris Hilton shares photos taken after alleged boarding school abuse

Paris Hilton is sharing photos of herself that were taken immediately after she allegedly suffered abuse at a boarding school in Utah.

Hilton, 39, first opened up about the alleged abuse in the 2020 documentary "This Is Paris." The former "Simple Life" star said her parents, Kathy and Rick Hilton, sent her to a series of "emotional growth schools" when she was a rebellious teen. After running away from the first two schools, Hilton was sent to Utah’s Provo Canyon School, which she described as "the worst of the worst."

In the throwback photos she shared to Instagram on Thursday, Hilton is seen posing in a hat and T-shirt with NYPD logos. Her face in one image looks noticeably weary.

"These photos were taken when I was 18 and had recently came home from the horrible experiences I went through at #ProvoCanyonSchool. I can see the pain in my eyes. I was so traumatized that I pretended everything was okay, trying to block out the painful memories," Hilton wrote in the caption.

"Looking at this now, I know that the teen me would be so incredibly proud of the woman I am today," she continued. "Being brave and using my voice to make a difference and save children from having to endure the abuse myself and so many others have had to go through. #iSeeYouSurvivor #BreakingCodeSilence 🙌"

In "This is Paris," which was directed by Emmy winner Alexandra Dean, Hilton described the abuse she allegedly suffered at the school as verbal, emotional and physical.

"You’re sitting on a chair staring at a wall all day long, getting yelled at or hit," she recalled in the film. "I felt like a lot of the people who worked there got off on torturing children and seeing them naked. They would prescribe everyone all these pills. I didn’t know what they were giving me."

'I would just feel so tired and numb. Some people in that place were just gone, like the lights are on, no one’s home. A lot of people were on suicide watch, and I was so scared that was going to happen to me," she added.

The school's staff allegedly forced Hilton into solitary confinement when they discovered she wasn't taking the pills they'd given her.

"I got into so much trouble for that. Solitary confinement, like something out of 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.' They’d make people take their clothes off and go in there for 20 hours. It felt like I was going crazy," she recalled. "Someone was in the other room that was in a straitjacket screaming. I was just freezing, I was starving. I was alone, and I was scared."

Several of Hilton's former Provo Canyon School classmates appeared in the film to corroborate her story and share their own tales of abuse.

Following the documentary's release last September, Hilton organized a protest in a park near Provo Canyon School , along with hundreds of others who said they were also abused at the school or at similar schools for troubled youth. Hilton has called for the school to be closed.

In September, a representative for Provo Canyon responded to Hilton's allegations in a statement to TODAY: "Originally opened in 1971, Provo Canyon School was sold by its previous ownership in August 2000. We therefore cannot comment on the operations or patient experience prior to this time."

The statement added, in part: "Provo Canyon School today is an intensive, psychiatric residential treatment center for youth between the ages of 8 and 18 that have special, and often complex, mental health and emotional needs. We offer innovative, evidence-based therapeutic interventions, academic instruction and life-skills training tailored to the needs of each of our students."

Hilton says she has been misunderstood and underestimated.

Before the word "influencer" was a household term, before Instagram and TikTok allowed users to document every moment of their life in real time, Paris Hilton was the woman at the center of it all.

A platinum blonde heiress with a mega successful reality show. A mainstay of tabloid gossip, thanks to an ever-present throng of paparazzi and a leaked sex tape. A consummate party girl who leveraged her starpower to launch a career in modeling and music. An early-aughts emblem of femininity and excess, whose breathy baby voice still conjures memories of the catchphrase, "That's hot."

Now, Hilton, 42, is ready to harness her voice in a new way after spending years living as what she describes as a manufactured caricature — in part, to protect herself.

"I just feel for so long I've been misunderstood and underestimated," Hilton told NPR. "And I feel that the past over two decades in this industry, my story has been told by other people. And I was just ready to get real and tell my truth."

Much of that truth involves unpacking the trauma of some of her teenage experiences in her new book, Paris: The Memoir , which has just published. In it, Hilton details an inappropriate relationship with a teacher when she was underage; sexual assault; and the abuse she experienced during years spent at boarding schools that were allegedly for "troubled teens."

Hilton said her exasperated parents, Rick and Kathy Hilton, decided to send her to these intensive residential schools after she spent years sneaking out of her home at the Waldorf Astoria hotel in New York to go to clubs, and she was kicked out of several elite schools.

Hilton also shares more fond memories of her adolescence and tales that set her on a path that the culture would later deride as being "famous for being famous." There are stories of teen antics with her sister, Nicky, including an attempt to sneak a young Khloe Kardashian into a bar by dressing her in a long wig and floppy black hat. There are musings on how an adult ADHD diagnosis changed her life for the better. Hilton also gives her take on the modern day influencer, a title for which she thinks she deserves a fair share of credit.

"I've been doing this so long, even before there was a name for it," Hilton told NPR. "And it's just amazing to see that something that I started so long ago has now become like a full fledged career and started this whole new genre of celebrity."

But Hilton also writes about that pop culture ubiquity serving as a way to cope with her experience in the so-called troubled teen industry. In the book, Hilton describes being dragged out of her bed in the middle of the night by two men and being flown across the country to attend a "therapeutic" school run by the now-defunct CEDU Educational Services. There, she was subjected to an invasive cavity search, she writes. She was initially not allowed to wear shoes – and was told they were a privilege she had to earn. Students were forced to participate in what Hilton called "raps," a nightly ritual where they were forced to insult and denigrate one another for hours.

"I know that wasn't my family's fault. They were lied to and manipulated," Hilton told NPR. "My parents had no idea. When I was there they would always be monitoring every phone call and if I tried to say anything, [the school] would immediately hang up the phone ... and take away my phone privileges, and then just tell my parents, 'Oh, she's lying. She just wants to leave. She's being manipulative.'"

At times, passages of the memoir read like a thriller as Hilton describes several attempts to escape CEDU facilities, and later, Provo Canyon School, where she writes about spending hours in solitary confinement, often without clothing, and being provided with pills that made her feel like "my head was disconnected from my body."

Hilton first divulged her experiences to film director Alexandra Dean in the 2020 documentary, This is Paris . It was a conversation that she says she never planned to have.

"When I got out of there, I made a promise to myself that I was never going to tell anyone about it. And this was not a part of my story," Hilton told NPR. "And that's why I basically created this character, Paris Hilton, in order to not have to think about, or feel the trauma I went through and experienced."

In a statement posted on the school's website, Provo Canyon School noted that it changed ownership in August 2000, after Hilton was a student there, and that the school does not "condone or promote any form of abuse."

"We are committed to providing high-quality care to youth with special, and often complex, emotional, behavioral and psychiatric needs," the statement said.

Hilton said that while it's been "very scary and really hard" to publicly reveal that trauma, writing her memoir has also lifted a weight.

"I just know that there are so many girls, boys, women, men who have been through the same thing as me. And they hold on to a shame. And that shame should not be on us. It should be on the people that hurt us," she told NPR.

The process of trying to let go of that pain and shame changed everything about her world, she says, including her romantic relationships.

She met now-husband Carter Reum, a venture capitalist, in 2019, at a family Thanksgiving dinner in the Hamptons. In the book, Hilton describes telling Reum about the harrowing revelations in This is Paris . She says it was the first time she "began a relationship of full disclosure."

"I feel so lucky that I found him," Hilton told NPR of Reum, whom she married in 2021. "That was the first time that I really let those walls down that I had around my heart. I just feel that timing is everything, and Carter is just my twin flame."

This year, Hilton and Reum announced the birth of their first child, Phoenix Barron Hilton Reum, via surrogate after more than two years of IVF treatments. Hilton says that with motherhood, some of her priorities have changed.

"Now that I'm a mom, it's way easier to say no. Before I didn't, you know, have something like this. So this is the most important thing in my life, and I want to be there for all the special moments."

Yet, as Hilton indicated to NPR, her spirit of risk-taking remains – but these days, it involves more honesty.

"I think it's so important for people to come out and be vulnerable and tell their stories, because life isn't perfect," said Hilton. "And it's important for others to know that they're not alone and that we all go through the same thing."

Lounging cross-legged on her bed at home in Beverly Hills and wearing a turquoise hoodie, Paris Hilton appeared at ease. There were none of the affectations that have defined her public image for two decades: the flat baby voice, the tiny, shimmering outfits, the faux ditziness, the stance that everything cool was “hot.”

“I built this kind of shield around me and kind of this persona, almost to hide behind, because I’ve been through so much where I just didn’t even want to think about it anymore,” Ms. Hilton, 39, said over Zoom. Behind her stood a towering mirror illuminated by a sea of LED lights that refracted off her platinum hair like diamonds.

Before there were influencers, there was Paris Hilton: a beautiful blank slate of a person onto whom all kinds of ideas and brand sponsorships could be projected. She was the celebrity burnished, if not created, by a sex tape. She was the face of the Sidekick (and the victim of a Sidekick hack that brought more of her personal life into the public eye). She was a reality star, trying her hand at manual labor as a rich person. She recorded music, modeled, appeared at parties, made TV cameos, wrote an advice book . And she was mercilessly criticized, written off as “famous for being famous.”

Regardless of whether that characterization was fair at the time, it seems pretty hard to defend these days. Ms. Hilton spends more than 250 days of the year traveling the world as a D.J., raking in a reported $1 million per gig . She oversees more than 19 product lines, including fragrances, clothing (for humans and pets) and accessories. And so many people are now famous for being famous, she might now seem more venerable pioneer than contemptible fly-by-night.

Now, moreover, she’s ready to talk about the past. On Sept. 14, the documentary “This Is Paris” will be released on YouTube. It aims to crack the facade she created in the aughts, focusing instead on the decade that preceded her fame.

Here’s what Paris Hilton says about Utah in her new memoir, ‘Paris’

The celebrity says she was abused while at provo canyon school in the 1990s..

Paris Hilton has spent nearly three years publicly speaking about the abuse she says she endured in the 1990s while at Provo Canyon School, a teen treatment facility in Utah.

The celebrity first spoke out in a documentary film in 2020 — and she has since pushed for reform to oversight of teen treatment programs in Utah and other states.

In her new memoir, “Paris,” Hilton wrote extensively about her time in wilderness programs and teen treatment centers — including at Provo Canyon School — and how the alleged abuse affected her into adulthood. The book was released Tuesday.

Universal Health Services, which owns Provo Canyon School, repeatedly has declined to comment on what Hilton said happened to her, saying it did not own the facility during the time she said she was abused. But people who were residents at Provo Canyon School in recent years have made similar accusations.

These are the key moments that Hilton describes from the time she spent in Utah as a teenager.

Hilton said being sent to “Provo” was considered a threat while she was in teen treatment programs in other states.

Provo Canyon School was not the first teen treatment program Hilton was sent away to in the mid-1990s. Her parents first sent her to CEDU, a now-defunct program in California. After she ran away from that program, she wrote, she was sent to a wilderness program in Montana called Ascent.

But Hilton ran from that program, too. She recalled in her memoir arriving at Provo Canyon School in 1997 and being forced to submit to a pelvic exam before being handed a pair of faded sweats labeled with the number “127.” Hilton said staff referred her by this number instead of her name throughout her 11-month stay.

Hilton describes being shut inside a seclusion room while at Provo Canyon School.

Hilton wrote that she was sent to a seclusion room during her time in Utah, which the facility called an observation room, after questioning the medication she was being forced to take and why the pills were prescribed to her.

She was forced to take off her clothes and sit inside a hexagon-shaped cinder block room, Hilton wrote. As hours passed, she said, she daydreamed of the life she would have when she turned 18 and could leave the Utah treatment center.

“My life after Provo would be everything,” she wrote. “Instead of numbered sweats, I’d curate a designer wardrobe and never wear the same outfit twice. Instead of bloodshot eyes and a bruised face, I’d have lush fake lashes, a seamless spray tan, and a touch of glitter on my cheekbones. Instead of shame, I would wrap myself in audacity, and I would make so much money and be so successful, no one could ever have control over me again.”

While at Provo Canyon School, Hilton said she endured late-night gynecological exams for no clear medical reason.

“They called it a ‘medical exam,’” Hilton wrote. “And because I wasn’t ready to call it ‘digital rape,’ I called it a medical exam, too.”

Hilton first publicly alleged that she had been sexually assaulted at Provo Canyon School under the guise of gynecological exams last May, during a push to bring federal oversight and regulation to “troubled-teen” programs.

In her book, Hilton recalled being haunted by memories of being taken to an infirmary several times in the middle of the night for a vaginal exam that had no clear medical purpose.

“The staff at Provo had their favorites,” she wrote. “Always pretty girls. But I don’t think it was about being pretty. I think these were weak people in the outside world, men and women who got off on the power they had over us.”

If the girls resisted the examination, Hilton said, they were threatened with the injection of a sedative. These injections were used with such regularity during that time that residents and staff nicknamed it “booty juice,” she said.

“There was always a tray with syringes,” Hilton remembers of the infirmary where she was examined.

After she left Utah, Hilton said her parents kept secret where she had been for nearly two years.

Hilton stayed at Provo Canyon School until she turned 18. But she wrote that those closest to her — including her own siblings — were not told the truth about where she had been from summer 1997 to January 1999.

“The whole thing was an ugly little secret shared by Mom, Dad, and me,” she wrote. “We didn’t discuss it. It was like the previous seventeen months didn’t happen.”

Hilton said her mother told acquaintances that she had gone to school in London during that time.

As an adult, Hilton googled “Provo Canyon School” and said she was surprised to learn it was still open.

Hilton said she looked up Provo Canyon School online when she was an adult, not realizing it was still operating. She wanted to share what had happened to her, she wrote, but was worried it could tarnish her reputation or growing businesses.

By 2013, Hilton was focused on her DJ career and creating music — but she wrote that she thought back to her time in Utah often.

“I couldn’t shake the thought of the children being held at Provo Canyon School, but I felt exactly the way the school had trained me to feel: powerless,” she wrote. “I wanted to help, but I didn’t know who to go to. Anything I did meant risking my carefully constructed narrative. It meant potentially hurting or embarrassing my family.”

Hilton did eventually speak out in her 2020 documentary, “This is Paris.” She described being abused at Provo Canyon School, and has since advocated for the facility’s closure. Provo Canyon School remains in operation.

The celebrity has returned to Utah twice for advocacy work — once in 2020 to hold a rally outside Provo Canyon School, and again the following year to testify before a state Senate committee urging members to pass regulatory reform of Utah’s booming troubled-teen industry.

That new law went into effect in 2021. It puts limits on use of restraints, drugs and isolation rooms in youth treatment programs. It also requires facilities to document any instance in which staffers use physical restraints and seclusion, and it mandated that they submit reports to state licensors. It also increased the required number of inspections that state regulators must conduct.

Paris Hilton was born in New York on February 17 1981. She is the great granddaughter of legendary hotelier Conrad Hilton, founder of the Hilton hotel empire, making her the closest thing America has to royalty. Paris Hilton discusses 'painful and traumatic' time at youth treatment center

Hilton is advocating for reform to protect youth from mistreatment.

Paris Hilton lives a glamorous life, but for years she hid a dark secret from everyone, including her family: She was allegedly abused at a youth treatment center in Utah when she was a teen.

The entrepreneur and influencer told "Good Morning America" that during her stay at Provo Canyon School in the 1990s, she was "physically abused, yelled at, restrained, locked in rooms, forced [to take] medication." She also said that male staff members watched her shower.

"It was the most painful and traumatic experience of my life," she told "GMA." "I had basically no human rights. I was cut off from the outside world, wasn't allowed to speak to my parents without being supervised. The fact that it's still happening today -- I just can't sleep at night, knowing that."

Now, Hilton is advocating for federal legislation that would protect children who have been placed in congregate care facilities. She has supported legislation in several states including Utah and Oregon, which have passed laws regarding congregate care facilities.

Hilton appeared in a news conference on Capitol Hill Wednesday to discuss legislation around congregate care.

"The multibillion-dollar troubled-teen industry has been able to mislead parents, school districts, child welfare agencies and juvenile justice systems for decades," she said. "The reason is a systemwide lack of transparency and accountability. It's clear that the state-by-state patchwork of limited, weak oversight and inconsistent licensing requirements is not working. Federal law and funding are desperately needed to bring real reform and true accountability to congregate care in America."

Hilton is working with Breaking Code Silence, a nonprofit dedicated to increasing awareness of the "troubled teen industry," to enact change. They are pushing for the passage of the Accountability for Congregate Care Act, which would create accountability requirements for facilities such as Provo Canyon.

"I am confident that this bill will create a world where all youth have the support and opportunity they need to heal, rise and not just survive," she said about the Accountability for Congregate Care Act during the news conference.

"This bill of rights provides protections that I wasn't afforded, like access to education, to the outdoors, freedom from abusive treatment and even the basic right to speak and move freely," she said. "If I had these rights and could've exercised them, I would have been saved from over 20 years of trauma and severe PTSD."

Hilton was 17 years old when her parents, Kathy and Rick Hilton, sent her to Provo Canyon School as a last-ditch effort to curb her increasingly rebellious behavior. Under the impression that Provo Canyon was a boarding school for troubled teenagers, Kathy and Rick were "manipulated and lied to" the entire time, Hilton alleges.

"They had no idea 'cause who would ever think that these type of things are happening behind closed doors? And I feel these places have gotten away with it for so long because that's what they do," Hilton told "GMA." "They'll the parents, 'Your kid's gonna lie to you. Don't believe them. They're manipulating you. They wanna go home.' Then they tell the kids, 'You are not allowed to tell your family anything. If you do, we will make sure you don't use the phone. You will get beaten, strangled, locked in a restraining room.'"

"While you're in there, you are just basically trained to not say anything. So I think when kids get out of there, they just don't wanna talk about it," she continued. "They don't want anyone even knowing, just like myself."

When reached for comment, a representative for Provo Canyon School referred "GMA" to a media statement issued in August: "Provo Canyon School was sold by its previous ownership in August 2000. We therefore cannot comment on the operations or student experience prior to that time."

"While we acknowledge there are individuals over the many years who believe they were not helped by the program, we are heartened by the many stories former residents share about how their stay was a pivot point in improving – and in many cases, saving – their lives," the statement reads, in part. "Provo Canyon School is committed to the safety of our students and staff. Provo Canyon School DOES NOT use 'solitary confinement' as a form of intervention. Licensed physicians prescribe medication as necessary to assist residents in addressing their mental health related diagnoses. The students and their families are informed of changes to prescription medications and participate in decision-making about medications. Provo Canyon School physicians DO NOT prescribe or use any medication as a means of discipline."

For years, Hilton, now 40, never spoke of her experiences. However, when she began filming her 2020 documentary, "This is Paris," she revealed a few details to director Alexandra Dean, who encouraged her to discuss it on camera. When she did, she said the nightmares that plagued her for years stopped.

"There needs to be oversight, regulations, accountability, transparency. People need to know what's happening, and people need to be held accountable for what they're doing," Hilton said about necessary changes she hopes to see.

"I wish we had this bill back when I was a teenager and maybe I wouldn't have been suffering from trauma and PTSD my entire life because of it," she noted on the Accountability for Congregate Care Act. "I wanna save other people from having to go through that."

This type of advocacy work has been cathartic, Hilton said. Calling it "the most rewarding and empowering experience I've ever felt in my life," she said that she hopes her work with Breaking Code Silence will be her legacy. Her message to the people she says hurt her? "The children that you abuse today will take you down tomorrow."

"Turning pain into purpose is such a real thing," she said. "I just know that the little girl in me would be so proud of the woman I am today."

Paris Hilton Describes Her Utah Boarding-School Experience As ‘Living in Hell’ in New Doc

Heiress, DJ , and former reality-TV star Paris Hilton is opening up about a little known portion of her life — her high-school years — in a new documentary about her life, This Is Paris . In a New York Times Style profile titled “Who Is Paris Hilton, Really?” written by Ilana Kaplan , Paris Hilton discusses her forthcoming documentary, which delves into her traumatic experience at Provo Canyon School, a Utah based boarding school for troubled teens and psychiatric treatment center where she once spent 11 months. Hilton tells Kaplan that attending Provo Canyon was “just like living in hell,” and claims she was emotionally, verbally, and physically abused by teachers and administrators at the school. In the doc, Hilton recalls getting taken from her bed as though she were being kidnapped her first night at the school, being regularly served mystery pills that she refused to take, and getting sent to solitary confinement for 20 hours at a time without clothing.

Provo Canyon has noted on its website that it changed ownership in 2000, after Ms. Hilton was a student. A representative from the school told the Times that Provo Canyon does “not condone or promote any form of abuse” and that “any and all alleged/suspected abuse is reported to our state regulatory authorities, law enforcement, and Child Protective Services immediately as required.” In the interview, Hilton attributes her experience at Provo Canyon with why she has since avoided therapy. “From being at Provo and those types of schools, just the therapists in there I felt were just not good people,” Hilton said. “I just have never,  ever  trusted them.”

Hilton also discussed how her opinion on the Me Too movement and women who have come forward about their stories of abuse has changed over time. In 2017, Hilton told reporter Irin Carmen that she thought women coming forward with allegations against her family friend President Trump were seeking “fame” and “attention,” but since then she has changed her tune. “I’m happy that there’s been the Me Too movement where people have completely changed their views on that,” Hilton said. “But at the start, it was just really unfair for a woman to be treated that way because somebody exposed them.” This Is Paris was initially supposed to premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival this past April, but is now debuting on YouTube on September 14.

The Biggest Bombshells From Paris Hilton's New Memoir

Paris Hilton is "sliving" to tell the tale. 

The Paris in Love star—who recently welcomed her son  Phoenix with husband Carter Reum —is opening up like never before in Paris: The Memoir, which was released March 14.

Among the many intimate topics she addresses in her autobiography, the 42-year-old discusses her decision to have an abortion in her twenties,  being raped at 15 and the lasting impact her infamous sex tape scandal had on her family and her career. 

After first speaking out in her 2020 YouTube documentary This Is Paris about the alleged abuse said she suffered at the Utah boarding school she went to as a teenager,  The Simple Life alum divulges more alarming details about the two years she spent in various facilities.

Paris reflects on the tabloid attention she received during the early years of her career—including that infamous Holy Trinity photo with Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan —admitting that "revisiting the aughts from a post-#MeToo/#TimesUp perspective is wrenching."

"I had fun—tons of fun and I refuse to remember it any other way," Paris writes of that era. "Other than a few occasions that left me curled up in a ball, I didn't let haters get to me."

But the DJ did point out the impossible double standard young women in the spotlight were held to at the time.

"We expected girls to be sexualized and then condemned for their sexuality," she explains. "Punished for both silence and speaking out, told we should accept responsibility for our choices and then called crazy or stupid or slutty if we didn't live by the rules other people chose for us."

Now, Paris is living by her own rules. Here are the biggest bombshells we learned from Paris: The Memoir :

While Paris Hilton has previously opened up about the abuse she said she suffered at several boarding schools she attended as a teenager, the DJ and businesswoman is sharing even more details about her harrowing experience in her  Paris: The Memoir . Paris issues a trigger warning before opening up about the trauma she endured during the two years she spent at various CEDU (CEDU Educational Services, Inc.) schools, including Provo Canyon School in Utah. 

Paris first recalls begins with being dragged out of her bed in the middle of the night. "My mind instantly went to the obvious," Paris writes. "I'm about to be raped. I'm about to be murdered. Here the memory shatters—a broken mirror in my mind. Two men. Hands on me."

From there, Paris details being repeatedly strip-searched, verbally and physically abused and "force-fed drugs intended to dull my wits and make me comply." 

The 42-year-old writes that she made multiple escape attempts from the schools, but was always found and brought back to the facilities, including one time where they "beat the s--t out of" her upon her return. 

In February 2021, Paris testified in a Utah court against Provo Canyon School in support of a bill focused on ending abuse in the state's congregate care facilities. In describing her alleged experiences at the institution, she said, "I was verbally, mentally and physically abused on a daily basis.​ I was cut off from the outside world and stripped of all my human rights."

The bill was ultimately passed and Paris continues her advocacy work for survivors of the "Troubled Teen Industry" through her 11:11 Impact Foundation.

In a statement shared to E! News in October 2022, the Provo Canyon School said that the boarding school "was sold by its previous ownership in August 2000."

"What we can say is that the school provides a structured environment teaching life-skills, providing behavioral health therapy, and continuing education for youth who come to us with pre-existing and complex emotional, behavioral and psychiatric needs," the statement read. "These youth have not been successful in typical home and school environ

Paris says she was raped at 15 by a boy she knew who invited her to his house when they ran into each other at the mall. After he kept encouraging her to drink wine coolers, Paris writes that she doesn't remember much about what happened next, just "broken pieces. Fragments. Echoes. White noise. Black silence."

"I became aware of a crushing weight on me," Paris recalls. "Suffocating me. Cracking my ribs. I felt a jolt of panic and tried to get up, but the impulse was lost, as if something had severed my spinal cord. When I tried to scream, there was no air in my lungs. All that came out was a small, raspy 'stop...what's happening?' Until this guy clamped his hand over my mouth—like, aggressively—like, hard."

Prior to her assault, Paris says she had planned to remain a virgin until marriage, but then chose to have sex with her then-boyfriend, Tori Spelling's brother Randy Spelling , in an attempt to reclaim her narrative. 

"Going forward, it made a much better 'How I Lost My Virginity' story," she writes. "Once upon a time. With a cute boy who loved me."

While she explains that she's "hardly thought about it since it happened," Paris admits that thinking about the rape made her "feel ruined and embarrassed and sick to my stomach, so I shoved it into the deepest, darkest corner of my mind. I refused to see the long shadow it cast."

Just after  The Simple Life premiered in 2003, Paris discovered she was pregnant with her then-boyfriend Jason Shaw 's child. "I was terrified and heartsick," Paris recalls. "I felt paralyzed by an anxiety that took root in my body and grew like poison ivy."

Paris then shares that she decided to get an abortion, which put her "at war" with what she had been raised to believe. "No one can ever know how hard it is to face this impossible choice unless she's faced it herself," Paris explains. "It's an intensely private agony that's impossible to explain. The only reason I'm talking about it now is that so many women are facing it, and they feel so alone and judged and abandoned. I want them to know that they're not alone, and they don't owe anyone an explanation. When there is no right way—all that's left is what is. What you know you have to do. And you do it, even though it breaks your heart."

While she still looks back on the experience with "sorrow," Paris writes, "I know I made the right choice."

"At that moment in my life, I was in no way capable of being a mother," she continues. "Denying that would have jeopardized the family I hoped to have in the future, at a time when I was healthy and healed."

Even though she describes Pink as "generous, evolved, and progressive," Paris writes that she was disappointed by the singer's 2006 song "Stupid Girls" after the sex tape was leaked without her consent. 

"The whole video is a not-at-all-subtle send-up of 'porno paparazzi girls' in general and, specifically, me, in a parody of my infamous sex tape," Paris explains. "Pink sang about 'outcasts and girls with ambition' and said, 'That's what I wanna see.' But she chose not to see it in me."

Paris stresses that she is not "mad" at Pink and there's no "feud" between the two women, mostly because, as Paris puts it, "I have the attention span of a gnat, which means I suck at holding grudges. Anyway, anger doesn't help; honesty does."

Before parents Rick and Kathy Hilton chose to send her away to school, Paris admits that "sometimes her party nights went on for days" and she knew she was "scaring the living shit out of my parents" with her behavior.

"I knew it was cruel. And dangerous," she reflects. "I loved my family, and I hated myself for hurting them. I'm making a real effort to understand what this situation was like for my parents. Because I will never understand what they chose to do about it."

While Paris reveals that she and her mother haven't spoken often about the abuse she allegedly endured, on the rare occasion when they do discuss it, Kathy explains that they enrolled her at the schools to "save" her. "She says it with absolute certainty, even now, knowing how it all went so wrong," Paris writes. "'You would do the same.' Not in a million f--king years, I think, but I don't say that out loud."

Before sharing her account of her at the boarding schools in her 2020 documentary This Is Paris , the DJ reveals she had "no intention" of ever sharing her story publicly before "Demi Lovato rocked my world."

Paris explains that she was "stunned" by "how real, vulnerable, and courageous" the singer was in her 2017 documentary  Simply Complicated . Pointing to Demi sharing "a painful reckoning with a difficult past" in the film, Paris says she was "inspired by Demi's courage" to speak out about her experience.

"Instead of worrying about what it would mean to my brand," Paris writes , "I started thinking about what it would do to the troubled-teen industry if I stepped out of the shadows and told my truth."

In 2006, a photograph of Paris with Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan crammed into the front seat of Paris' car caused a pop culture frenzy. At the time, Paris and Lindsay were in a complicated patch of their friendship—so a snapshot of the duo together with the Princess of Pop unquestionably made headlines, infamously dubbed "The Bimbo Summit" at the time. "I didn't love the wording, but my bangs looked super cute," Paris writes. "How often can you nail that, really? Bangs are tricky."

When the photo's 15th anniversary in 2021 provoked an examination of the media's treatment of the three women at the time, Paris says she also reflected on how they had all growns since then.

"I'd just gotten married and was running a massive media and lifestyle conglomerate," Paris reflects. "Britney had recently ended the outrageous thirteen-year conservatorship that exerted control over her finances and personal life. Lindsay had just gotten engaged and was working on a professional comeback. I was glad for her."

While she and Lindsay are not "close," Paris says, "I always wish her well." And when Britney married Sam Asghari in June 2002, Paris was in attendance and describes the "Piece of Me" singer as a "gorgeous angel princess bride."

Fun fact: It was Nicky, not Paris, who first uttered the infamous "That's hot" line, though Paris says that the phrase "resonated" with her so much when she first heard it that she wrote it in her diary.

"It's such a great statement, isn't it?" she poses. "Positive. Unpretentious. The word hot is evocative; there's energy in it. If you see something you appreciate, shout it out. Toss a spark of positivity into the world. It's like 'I see you'—but hotter."

As for her other catchphrase—"Sliving"—Paris explains that she accidentally invented it during a Halloween party several years ago. 

"I started to say 'slaying' but took a sharp left toward 'living your best life,' and 'sliving' came out," she recalls. "We all died laughing, but I was thinking, That's a great word. Ima trademark that shit like yesterday. I may have been slightly tipsy. But it is a great word! It's a movement and a lifestyle."

Before she was the breakout star of The Real Housewives of New York City , the Skinnygirl mogul was Paris and Nicky's babysitter, thanks to her close friendship with their aunt and The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills ' cast member  Kyle Richards .

Tasked with picking up the Hilton girls from school, Paris shares that Bethenny often took them shopping and "sometimes we'd meet up with Kyle and go ice-skating or get candy from the Mobile Mart."

Paris was just 12 years old when she went to her first club, going to a party after she and her sister Nicky Hilton attended a New Kids on the Block concert with Pia Zadora . Paris was immediately drawn to the party scene.

"Unfortunately, just as I was soaking all this in, we bumped into my mom's sister," Paris recalls. "Aunt Kyle was like, 'WTF!' She dragged Pia aside for a brief, hissy conversation and then took us home, but I knew I had to go back."

Shortly after, Paris attempted to sneak into a club with  Khloé Kardashian , who was in middle school at the time, so she put "full makeup, a long red wig, and a floppy black hat" on the future reality star. "I told her," Paris remembers, "'If anyone asks, your name is Betsey Johnson.'"

Friends since they were young children, Paris and Nicole Richie went on to co-star in five seasons of The Simple Life from 2003 to 2007, though they had a falling-out around the time the show ended. They've since quashed their beef, with Nicole attending Paris' wedding in November 2021.

"Nicole Richie and I were ride or die from our terrible twos," Paris writes, "and we'll stay that way until the world ends. Nicole is so genuinely kind and sweet, she catches people off guard with her raunchy one-liners, and the reaction she gets from people is comedy gold. Comedy has to be fearless, and Nicole doesn't hesitate."

Paris also reveals that The Simple Life producers initially envisioned the Hilton sisters fronting the Fox reality show and though she "begged Nicky to do it with me," Paris says their parents were not into the idea, nor was Nicky. "'Don't be insane,' Nicky said," Paris recalls. "'You'll embarrass yourself.'"

Paris first met The Kardashians reality star when Faye Resnick recommended she hire Kim to organize her wardrobe and the two formed an instant connection. Paris even describes the SKIMS founder as one of the few people she could "trust and depend on" at the time. 

"Kim had started a business where she went into the closets of famous people, took whatever they didn't love, and sold it on eBay," Paris explains. "It was genius and generated tens of thousands of dollars for charity and fun money. She did an incredible job, and we had so much fun working together. We balanced each other. I was a disorganized night owl; Kim was an efficient early riser."

Still, Paris recalls giving the future KKW Beauty founder a piece of advice she obviously took to heart.

"Kim Kardashian and I were making frittata and French toast coated with Frosted Flakes for breakfast one morning," Paris shares, "and she said, 'I don't know anyone who parties as hard as you do and looks as good as you do.' Skin care. Seriously. If you take nothing else from my story, receive this: Skin care is sacred."

Paris Hilton urges federal reform of youth treatment facilities while sharing her story of traumatic abuse

Paris Hilton described traumatic abuse during her time at a residential youth treatment facility in public testimony Wednesday before a House committee, urging lawmakers to institute laws that would protect vulnerable children.

Hilton, whose great-grandfather founded Hilton Hotels, advocated for federal oversight over such facilities and described her own experience with them. She told the House Ways and Means Committee she was 16 when she was taken from her bed in the middle of the night and transferred to such a center.

At the time, Hilton was struggling with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, getting poor grades and skipping classes. Someone recommended to her parents that she be sent to a treatment facility for kids.

"These programs promised 'healing, growth and support' but instead did not allow me to speak, move freely or even look out a window for two years," Hilton said. "I was force-fed medications and sexually abused by the staff. I was violently restrained and dragged down hallways, stripped naked and thrown into solitary confinement."

Hilton described her parents as having been "completely deceived" about her treatment at the Provo Canyon School.

"My parents had no idea; they just thought it was going to be a normal boarding school," she said. "And when I got there, there was no therapy. We would just constantly be torn down, abused, screamed at, yelled at. No education whatsoever. I learned nothing there except trauma."

The Department of Health and Human Services’ inspector general’s office said in a report Wednesday that many states are failing to track how frequently children in foster care facilities are abused , sexually assaulted or improperly restrained, leaving them vulnerable to mistreatment.

Federal taxpayers spend billions of dollars on foster care for thousands of children around the country. Some children are placed with families in homes or with their relatives. The most expensive care, which can cost hundreds of dollars a day or more, involves residential treatment facilities — essentially group homes for children. Those children sometimes have complex medical or behavioral needs.

Hilton, 43, said she was testifying to be "the voice for children who currently do not have one."

"For children who do end up in foster care, we cannot allow them to grow up in facilities," she told the committee. "The treatment these children have had to endure is criminal. These kids deserve to grow up in safe, family-centered environments."

She referred to a school for troubled boys in Jamaica , where students accused staffers of rampant abuse that included beatings and starvation. The U.S. pulled seven American children from the school in March, and five staffers have since been charged with child cruelty .

Hilton traveled to Jamaica to support and meet with the boys, telling the committee she worked to find them appropriate placements.

In a 2022 opinion column published in USA Today , Hilton alleged that as a teen she was repeatedly forced out of her bed at night for gynecological exams against her will. She described being "almost naked" in a cinderblock room used for solitary confinement.

Hilton wrote that it "isn't treatment; it’s torture."

"It takes all my courage to talk about it, but I couldn’t stand knowing that children as young as 8 years old are being sent to these 'troubled teen' programs by parents who don’t know and government agencies that don’t care," she wrote.

Hilton has led protests calling for the Provo Canyon School to be closed, and she spoke to other former students of the institution in her 2020 documentary, " This is Paris ."

The Provo Canyon School said it was sold in 2000 and cannot comment on operations before then.

Two senators began inquiring about companies that own many such youth treatment centers in 2022, including the one that owns Provo Canyon School.

Paris Hilton's 2 Kids: Meet Babies Phoenix and London

Being a mom? That's hot. Especially when you're Paris Hilton . Over the years, fans have had the pleasure of witnessing the multi-hyphenate entrepreneur take so many worlds by storm. Now, she's the mom of two extremely cute babies — and sliving parenthood every day.

Over the years, Paris has spoken regularly and at length about her desire to start a family. In January 2021, she confirmed undergoing IVF during a podcast appearance . Later that year, after rumors began to swirl that she was pregnant with triplets (!), she took to her own  This Is Paris   podcast to comment on the news, noting that she wasn't pregnant ... but hoped to welcome children soon.

"[Parenthood is] just the true meaning of life. It brings you so much joy and so much love that you could never even have imagined before," she later explained in an interview with ET . "So I just can't wait for that day one day."

During Season 1 of her reality TV show  Paris In Love , she also shared her desire to be a mom, noting that the reason she and her then-fiancé, now-husband Carter Reum were rushing to the aisle was that they were so excited to be parents. Though they waited a little bit after their November 2021 wedding to expand their family, it didn't take long for their wishes to come true. In January 2023,  Phoenix Barron Hilton Reum was born. His little sister,  London Marilyn Hilton Reum , joined the family less than a year later in November 2023.

Paris Hilton's Baby Son Phoenix

Paris's son, Phoenix Barron Hilton Reum (an elegant name, but we can just call him Phoenix!), was born on January 16, 2023.

"So, I just got home and Carter told me that I'm going to be a mom in less than 48 hours," shared Paris in Season 2, Episode 1 of Paris In Love.  "His name is going to be Phoenix. I always wanted to name my children after cities or states or countries. When I told Carter the name he loved it."

Phoenix was born via surrogate at Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles. Ahead of his birth, Paris and Carter told absolutely no one that he was coming — their friends and family included. The surprise was so under wraps that they didn't even have a nursery set up.

"I was in shock, I was in complete shock,” Paris's mom, Kathy Hilton, told  Extra in March 2023 about the surprise, which Paris shared at her family's belated Christmas celebration. “We didn’t have our Christmas together because she was working out of the country. [Paris] said, ‘I have a surprise for you,’ and it was my Christmas present. Then she waited a few minutes and goes, ‘I have one more surprise for you.’ I thought maybe it’s a puppy because my husband and I lost my dog.”

But no, there was baby Phoenix.

Paris Hilton defended her son Phoenix against internet trolls

Since his birth, Phoenix has made plenty of headlines of his own — and his mom has defended him every step of the way. In October 2023, Paris's Instagram comment section was flooded with hurtful messages about the size of Phoenix's head in one of her photos. In true Paris fashion, she responded that he "just has a large brain" (like mother, like son!) and went on to issue a statement about the "unacceptable" nature of the comments.

“If I don't post my baby, people assume I'm not a great mother and if I do post him, there are some people who are cruel and hateful I'm a proud working mom and my baby is perfectly healthy, adorable and angelic,” she said. “I've dreamt of being a mom for as long as I can remember [and] every day with him is a reminder of what truly matters.”

Paris Hilton's Son Phoenix's First Birthday

Phoenix celebrated his first birthday in January 2024 with a perfectly themed backyard party: "Sliving Under the Sea."

"A magical day for the most magical smiley boy. My life is forever changed thanks to you Phoenix!" she wrote via Instagram to mark the occasion. "Thank you for making me the luckiest."

Paris Hilton's Baby Daughter, London

Paris announced the birth of her second baby , daughter London Marilyn Hilton Reum, on Thanksgiving 2023. London was born at 11:43 a.m. on November 11 (her parents' wedding anniversary!) via surrogate, about two weeks before her arrival was shared with the world.

“My princess has arrived!!” Paris commented on a video announcing the birth . While slightly surprising for fans, London's arrival was no surprise to the couple — they'd been undergoing IVF treatments to conceive their second baby while Phoenix was in utero; the babies are around nine months apart .

When London was five months old, Paris finally shared her face with the world.

"Introducing London Marilyn Hilton-Reum. I’ve dreamed of having a daughter named London for as long as I can remember. I’m so grateful she is here," she wrote via Instagram alongside plenty of heart emojis. "I truly cherish every moment I spend with her. Together with Phoenix, my angel babies have shown me a love that I never even knew could run so deep before I became their mother."

In her book,  Paris: The Memoir , the socialite discussed how she always knew London would be part of her life someday.

“We planned to name our girl London because I’ve always had this vision of myself with a daughter named London,” she wrote. “Not just a whim, like, ‘Oh how cute would that be?’ This was more than that. It was a key part of my vision of my perfect life. My daughter London. She would look like me. I would love her to the moon and back. She would be everything.”

Paris Hilton's IVF Journey

During Season 2 of Paris In Love , Paris shared more about her IVF experience. The first episode showed her giving herself a shot — a process she was not a fan of due to her hatred of needles. Later, she noted that she'd first heard about IVF from Kim Kardashian, who introduced her and Carter to their IVF doctor.

"Last year, we came back from the honeymoon and started the process. We interviewed a handful of surrogates, and have just kind of figured it out as we've gone," noted Carter.

Did Paris Hilton use a surrogate?

Yes, Paris used a surrogate for both of her babies.

"The surrogacy process, it was definitely a difficult decision to make because I would've loved to have that experience of growing a baby in your tummy and feeling the kicks and just all of those exciting moments," she explained during Season 2, Episode 1 of Paris In Love. "But my life has just been so public. So even though the baby is biologically mine and Carter's, we decided to have a surrogate carry him."

Later in the episode, she explained how incredibly grateful she was to the surrogate for making her dreams of parenthood come true.

"She's been there every step of the way with us," added Carter.

Over the years, Paris has spoken regularly and at length about her desire to start a family. In January 2021, she confirmed undergoing IVF during a podcast appearance . Later that year, after rumors began to swirl that she was pregnant with triplets (!), she took to her own  This Is Paris   podcast to comment on the news, noting that she wasn't pregnant ... but hoped to welcome children soon.

"[Parenthood is] just the true meaning of life. It brings you so much joy and so much love that you could never even have imagined before," she later explained in an interview with ET . "So I just can't wait for that day one day."

During Season 1 of her reality TV show  Paris In Love , she also shared her desire to be a mom, noting that the reason she and her then-fiancé, now-husband Carter Reum were rushing to the aisle was that they were so excited to be parents. Though they waited a little bit after their November 2021 wedding to expand their family, it didn't take long for their wishes to come true. In January 2023,  Phoenix Barron Hilton Reum was born. His little sister,  London Marilyn Hilton Reum , joined the family less than a year later in November 2023.

Paris Hilton's Baby Son Phoenix

Paris's son, Phoenix Barron Hilton Reum (an elegant name, but we can just call him Phoenix!), was born on January 16, 2023. 

"So, I just got home and Carter told me that I'm going to be a mom in less than 48 hours," shared Paris in Season 2, Episode 1 of Paris In Love.  "His name is going to be Phoenix. I always wanted to name my children after cities or states or countries. When I told Carter the name he loved it."

Phoenix was born via surrogate at Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles. Ahead of his birth, Paris and Carter told absolutely no one that he was coming — their friends and family included. The surprise was so under wraps that they didn't even have a nursery set up.

"I was in shock, I was in complete shock,” Paris's mom, Kathy Hilton, told  Extra in March 2023 about the surprise, which Paris shared at her family's belated Christmas celebration. “We didn’t have our Christmas together because she was working out of the country. [Paris] said, ‘I have a surprise for you,’ and it was my Christmas present. Then she waited a few minutes and goes, ‘I have one more surprise for you.’ I thought maybe it’s a puppy because my husband and I lost my dog.”

But no, there was baby Phoenix.

Since his birth, Phoenix has made plenty of headlines of his own — and his mom has defended him every step of the way. In October 2023, Paris's Instagram comment section was flooded with hurtful messages about the size of Phoenix's head in one of her photos. In true Paris fashion, she responded that he "just has a large brain" (like mother, like son!) and went on to issue a statement about the "unacceptable" nature of the comments.

“If I don't post my baby, people assume I'm not a great mother and if I do post him, there are some people who are cruel and hateful I'm a proud working mom and my baby is perfectly healthy, adorable and angelic,” she said. “I've dreamt of being a mom for as long as I can remember [and] every day with him is a reminder of what truly matters.”

Paris Hilton's Son Phoenix's First Birthday

Phoenix celebrated his first birthday in January 2024 with a perfectly themed backyard party: "Sliving Under the Sea." 

"A magical day for the most magical smiley boy. My life is forever changed thanks to you Phoenix!" she wrote via Instagram to mark the occasion. "Thank you for making me the luckiest."

Paris Hilton's Baby Daughter, London

Paris announced the birth of her second baby , daughter London Marilyn Hilton Reum, on Thanksgiving 2023. London was born at 11:43 a.m. on November 11 (her parents' wedding anniversary!) via surrogate, about two weeks before her arrival was shared with the world.

“My princess has arrived!!” Paris commented on a video announcing the birth . While slightly surprising for fans, London's arrival was no surprise to the couple — they'd been undergoing IVF treatments to conceive their second baby while Phoenix was in utero; the babies are around nine months apart .

When London was five months old, Paris finally shared her face with the world.

"Introducing London Marilyn Hilton-Reum. I’ve dreamed of having a daughter named London for as long as I can remember. I’m so grateful she is here," she wrote via Instagram alongside plenty of heart emojis. "I truly cherish every moment I spend with her. Together with Phoenix, my angel babies have shown me a love that I never even knew could run so deep before I became their mother."

In her book,  Paris: The Memoir , the socialite discussed how she always knew London would be part of her life someday.

“We planned to name our girl London because I’ve always had this vision of myself with a daughter named London,” she wrote. “Not just a whim, like, ‘Oh how cute would that be?’ This was more than that. It was a key part of my vision of my perfect life. My daughter London. She would look like me. I would love her to the moon and back. She would be everything.”

Paris hilton's ivf journey.

During Season 2 of Paris In Love , Paris shared more about her IVF experience. The first episode showed her giving herself a shot — a process she was not a fan of due to her hatred of needles. Later, she noted that she'd first heard about IVF from Kim Kardashian, who introduced her and Carter to their IVF doctor. 

"Last year, we came back from the honeymoon and started the process. We interviewed a handful of surrogates, and have just kind of figured it out as we've gone," noted Carter.

Did Paris Hilton use a surrogate?

Yes, Paris used a surrogate for both of her babies.

"The surrogacy process, it was definitely a difficult decision to make because I would've loved to have that experience of growing a baby in your tummy and feeling the kicks and just all of those exciting moments," she explained during Season 2, Episode 1 of Paris In Love. "But my life has just been so public. So even though the baby is biologically mine and Carter's, we decided to have a surrogate carry him."

Later in the episode, she explained how incredibly grateful she was to the surrogate for making her dreams of parenthood come true.

"She's been there every step of the way with us," added Carter.

Paris opened up about the future of her family during a November 2023 appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen . 

“We’ll see,” she said. “I’m just loving having my little boy and girl right now. But I’m probably going to want a little sister for London.”
