Satyadev has been attempting different films. He is juggling with lead roles as well as character roles in films like Acharya and upcoming Godfather. He teams up with Bluffmaster director for the Godse. What is that keeps us hooked to the film and what not? Read on to know.

Godse alias Viswanath Ramchandran (Satyadev) kidnaps society’s VVIPs including politicians, business honchos, police and CAs. This sends shivers down the spine of the police bosses and government. What is Godse’s demand? What is his fateful past that made him take law into his hand? The film answers these questions.

Performances:

Satyadev as Godse confines to his usual performance. There is nothing much for him to experiment in this routine political thriller. Aishwarya Lekshmi gets the role of Negotiation Officer in the Police Department that doesn’t let her shine. Her character fails to impress. Director’s attempt to portray her glamour in this thriller goes for a toss. Sijju Menon’s antagonist role is underdeveloped. The film has a lot of actors, but none of them leave any impact. Prudhvi, Brahmaji, Tanikella Bharani, Naga Babu (Guest role), Priyadarshi, Chaitanya Krishna et al are seen in short roles. But it is Satyadev who gets maximum screen presence.

Technicalities:

Director Gopi Ganesh chose a wafer-thin plot which has no novelty. It is an ordinary story of a white collar turning to crime for his personal loss. Touted to be a political thriller, Godse boils down to a regular revenge drama. The film tests the patience of viewers. Background music isn’t appealing.

Connecting Dots Few Emotional Scenes

Second Half Back Stories Predictable Story

Satyadev is known for trying out various kinds of roles and subjects. However, it is quite surprising to see what made him sign a film like Godse that neither has novel plot nor a gripping narration. Gopi Ganesh did make a decent film with Bluffmaster. This time, he has got nothing to deliver. Godse starts on an interesting note with the kidnaps of the influential persons in society. But the investigation trail is so funny that the cops are unable to trace the protagonist’s whereabouts and his identity. The seriousness is taken off by the protagonist asking the measurements of the female police officer Vaishali (Aishwarya Lekshmi).

The first half of the film doesn’t offer much. It is amusing that whomever Godse wants to present in front of his call from the investigation office, the police bosses obey. The interval episode isn’t interesting enough either. One only wish that the second-half of the film gets better but no luck. As things proceed, Godse turns miserable. The latter-half is utterly boring and is loaded with sad and heavy emotion. The backstories of the friends (Chaitanya Krishna) are dragged to act as filler. The friends’ reunion and backstories of friends turn into a fat bore. It is cliched. Shankar had tried this in films like Gentleman way long ago. Director Gopi Ganesh picks up the unemployment and corrupt leaders, and the failed policy behind this problem. This problem was dealt with by many in the past. In Godse, The approach for the problem and its message is not delivered rightly. This is where the film tanks big.

The only blessing in disguise is how all the dots are connected. Why Godse specifically kidnapped the people who are involved in his personal loss. This justifies the means. But the film has nothing beyond. There are some emotional scenes here and there that add weight to the story. The problem with Godse is its huge predictability and the snail-paced story-telling. The different ending fails to leave the expected impact. On the whole, Godse got many things wrong. May not be worth a watch.

Bottom-line: Oh My ‘God’se!

Godse movie review.

'Godse', produced by C Kalyan on CK Screens, was released in theatres today.

Godse (Satyadev) carries out a series of kidnappings and holds the system to ransom one fine day. Among those kidnapped by him and his gang are businessmen and a top cop. The police department enlists Vyshali (Aishwarya) to negotiate with him. When she asks for his demands, Godse behaves in unpredictable ways. He eventually opens up about his motives after outing his personal tragedy.

The rest of the film is about Godse's backstory, why he is doing what he is doing, and whether he will succeed in his vigilante mission.

Performances

Satyadev Kancharana dramatizes the angry scenes with passion. He is spot-on when he delivers those monologues and is satisfying in other portions. Aishwarya Lekshmi plays a boring character that enters a tricky zone; her dubbing is routine.

Jia Sharma of 'Arjun Reddy' fame is unrecognizable, while Brahmaji and Tanikella Bharani are forgettable. Sijju Menon, Varghese and PrudhviRaj make zero impact. Noel Sean and Chaitanya Krishna are okayish.

Nagababu Konidela and Priyadarshi are seen in cameo roles.

Technical aspects

Sandy Addanki's music doesn't really add even a semblance of adrenaline to the goings-on. Suresh Sarangam's cinematography is passable in action segments, while it is just basic at other times.

Sagar Undagandla's editing is trashy, considering how overlong the flashback episodes are.

'Until people don't realize whose interests exist behind slogans, they will continue to be deceived'. This line mouthed by Godse is drawn from Communist thinking. Film protagonists quoting such alleged gems from Marxist literature is routine. In 'Godse', the line is far-fetched, considering that Godse is actually a businessman when he says the line. A vigilante saying raising such a slogan would have looked worthy of some attention.

Writer-director Gopi Ganesh Pattabhi wastes an hour building nothing concerning Godse alias Vishwanath Ramachandra. He asks Vyshali to blurt out her body measurements in a serious scene. For what? To sex up his vigilantism? To add an oomph factor to his killings?

The writing has a shade of 'Maharshi'. Revealing it would be a spoiler, but if you have cared to watch the film's pre-release promo material, you can guess the plot point.

The film raises questions about unemployment with the attitude of an R Narayana Murthy social drama. The flashback in the second half is never-ending, making 'Godse' become a sob fest at the expense of drama and action. The climax segment is too conveniently and lazily written.

Closing Remarks

'Godse' is arguably the most avoidable small movie in recent months.

Godse Movie Review:   Satya dev , Aishwarya Lekshmi, Brahmaji, Tanikella Bharani, starrer Godse helmed by Gopi Ganesh Pattabhi has hit the theaters today on 17th June. Let’s see the story of Godse.

Story:  Godse(Satyadev) wants to teach lessons to the politicians, cops and the  security agencies. He holds some bigwigs as hostages and raises a few demands. The entire city is on the high alert for this by the police. Special Investigation Officer Vaishali  (Aishwarya Lakshmi)  is brought  to solve the case. Who is Godse? Why did he take bigwigs as hostages? How will Vaishali handle this case? To get these answers, one should watch the movie Godse on the silver screen.

Performance:  Satyadev Kancharana plays the titular character in this film and he has given a fantastic performance. He justifies his character perfectly. The best part of Satya Dev’s acting is his dialogue delivery with lots of intensity. The climax part where Satya Dev delivers a long speech is the major highlight of this film. Aishwarya Lekshmi makes a decent Telugu debut with Godse and has proved her talent. Rest of the cast perform accordingly.

Technical:  The story of Godse is predictable.  The cinematography and the background score are the major assets of the film.   The Cinematographer camera knows what to show the movie lovers and he has done total justice to the storyline and direction. There are many thrilling scenes throughout the movie.  The production values and editing are good. The dialogues are thought-provoking.

Analysis: One of the biggest drawbacks of  Godse is that there is no depth in the emotions.  The flashback is boring and routine. Coming on the work of director  Gopi Ganesh, he has done a below par with the film. Overall Godse is a decent hostage drama.

“Godse” is a 2022 Indian Telugu-language vigilante action thriller film, helmed by Gopiganesh Pattabhi and produced by C. Kalyan for CK Screens.

Aishwarya Lekshmi makes her Telugu film debut as the lead actress in this thriller, which was directed by Gopi Ganesh.

Godse Review: Oh God! What a Bore!

Satyadev starrer ‘Godse’ failed to create any buzz before its release. Still, the makers put the movie in competition against ‘Virata Parvam’.

Let’s see how this film has fared.

Story: Politicians, businessmen, and other high-profile society members get kidnapped one by one. The government sets up a committee to negotiate with the kidnapper. ACP Vaishali (Aishwarya Lekshmi) handles the negotiations with the kidnapper Godse. 

In a prolonged talk with Godse, Vaishali finds that he is none other than businessman Vishwanath Ramchandra.

Why does a business tycoon kidnap many members? Why does he shorten his name to Godse? The rest of the film is about the real mission behind these kidnappings.

Artistes’ Performances: Satyadev has played the businessman turned vigilante Godse. In the film mostly, he just shouts and mouths dialogues while sitting in a chair. He is loud and his act is lousy as well. In her Telugu debut, Aishwarya Lekshmi (‘Jagame Thandhiram’ fame) is just okay. She plays a typical investigator’s role. 

Prudhvi fails to provide any comedy in the role of a politician. Sijju, Noel, Brahmaji, Naga Babu, and others play their flat characters in a routine manner. 

Technical Excellence: Technical and production values are adequate. Much of the story runs in two rooms. The production design is decent.

The dialogues written by Pattabhi are awkwardly bad and seem to have been lifted from newspaper articles.

Highlights: None

Analysis Some films can easily be guessed about how bad they could be with just a glance at the trailers. What we didn’t expect with “Godse” is that the movie can be a bigger bore than the trailer.

Directed by Gopi Ganesh Pattabhi, whose previous credits include flops like “Bluff Master” and “Romeo”, the film tests our patience from the first act itself. 

The film begins with a businessman kidnapping politicians and officers and the commencement of a negotiation process. Sitting on a chair, acting like Vikram of ‘Aparachitudu’, Satyadev talks rubbish with the officers and government officials. The government team’s reaction is comical.

A few moments later, we get to see the introduction of the heroine Aishwarya Lekshmi. Satyadev demanding to know her vital statistics before revealing his demands is another low point in this messy affair.

Inspired by Hollywood films about the negotiation process, the entire first half consists of Satyadev’s monologues and Aishwarya Lekshmi’s frets. By the time interval bang comes, we know what this fuss about kidnaps and his vigilante acts. 

Sadly, the second half of the film also goes in an utterly predictable manner and is clichéd. The film further sinks when the hero bypasses the chief minister and orders things.

The dialogues about the current system and the nexus between politicians and businessmen are so hollow.

The story and screenplay are outdated. The direction is messy. The actors also look clueless. 

By the end of this film, all we can say is, “Oh God!”

Ulajh Review in Hindi: बॉलीवुड फिर से अपने ही बिछाए जाल में फंसता नजर आ रहा है. पिछले कुछ हफ्तों में तो बॉक्स ऑफिस पर इसकी कलई खुलती नजर आ ही रही है. फिर हर हफ्ते के साथ कोई ना कोई कमजोर फिल्म दर्शकों के आगे परोस दी जाती है जो दिमाग और पैसे दोनों का दही कर देती है. कोढ़ में खाज की बात यह कि इन फिल्मों में नामी-गिरामी कलाकार होते हैं. बड़ा बजट होता है. जबरदस्त पीआर होता है. देश-विदेश की शूटिंग होती है. हर वो चीज होती है जो फिल्म को हिट नहीं बना सकती. लेकिन हर वो चीज मिस होती है जो फिल्म को चला सकती है, जैसे गहन रिसर्च, मजबूत कहानी, सधी हुई एक्टिंग और कसावट भरी एडिटिंग. बस, जाह्नवी कपूर की फिल्म उलझ भी इन्हीं हालात की मारी है. ऐसी फिल्म की देखते हुए दर्शकों की मति ही मार देती है. 

उलझ मूवी रिव्यू

उलझ की कहानी जाह्नवी कपूर की है. असल जिंदगी की तरह फिल्म में भी वो नेपोटिज्म का दंश झेल रही हैं. परिवार काफी रसूखदार है. उसे सरकारी नौकरी में नाम मिलता है और बड़ी तैनाती भी मिल जाती है. फिर विदेश में एक लड़के से झट मुलाकात और पट इश्क भी हो जाता है. फिर शुरू होता है ऐसा एक चक्रव्यूह जिसकी जाह्नवी ने कल्पना भी नहीं की थी और उसकी जिंदगी 360 डिग्री घूम जाती है. कई किरदारों की सच्चाई सामने आती है, कई उतार-चढ़ाव दिखाए जाते हैं. लेकिन डायरेक्टर सुधांशु सारिया राजी को अपना आदर्श मानकर इस फिल्म पर अपनी ही धुन में आगे बढ़ते जाते हैं. ना कहानी का सिर देखते हैं ना पांव. ना एक्टिंग के ए पर ध्यान देते हैं और ना ही डायलॉग डिलीवरी के बी पर. सब कुछ होता रहता है और एक समय आता है कि दर्शक का संयम दांव पर लग जाता है. 

उलझ की एक्टिंग ऐसी है कि कुछ भी सुलझता नजर नहीं आता है. जाह्नवी कपूर एक्टिंग के मामले में पूरी फिल्म में ही जूझती नजर आती हैं. जिस वजह से किरदार पूरी तरह से फ्लैट हो जाता है. जाह्नवी कपूर को देखकर जेहन में यही बात आती है कि ऐसा कब तक चलेगा जाह्नवी, कुछ करती क्यों नहीं हो. जरूरत एक्टिंग के हुनर को निखारने की है. फिर जिस तरह की डेप्थ इस तरह की फिल्म के लिए पहली दरकार है, वो पूरी तरह मिसिंग है. बाकी कलाकार ठीक-ठाक हैं.

उलझ को लेकर वर्डिक्ट की बात करें तो ये फिल्म आपको उलझा कर रख देगी. अगर आप जाह्नवी कपूर के फैन हैं तो एक बार फिर फिल्म जरूर ट्राई कर सकते हैं. बाकी ओटीटी पर इस हफ्ते काफी कंटेंट तो आया ही है.

‘Brinda’ web series review: Trisha, Ravindra Vijay sparkle in this taut crime drama

In debut director surya manoj vangala’s telugu web series ‘brinda’, trisha and ravindra vijay come up with triumphs as the narrative navigates professional and personal stories of resilience.

Trisha in the Telugu web series ‘Brinda’, streaming on Sony LIV

First-time director Surya Manoj Vangala’s Telugu web series Brinda , which marks actor Trisha Krishnan’s entry into the digital space, features the actor without most of the trappings of mainstream commercial cinema. Cast in the titular role, she portrays a brooding insomniac cop popping anxiety pills, grappling with ghosts from her past, facing gender discrimination at the workplace with quiet resilience and working with an unflinching sense of purpose. In the eight-episode series streaming on Sony LIV, approximately 40 minutes duration each, she smiles fleetingly on a couple of occasions. The narrative gives her and her co-star Ravindra Vijay , a colleague at the police station, ample scope to portray troubled characters, even as the crime they are investigating gets darker at every turn. Brinda tries to go beyond the whodunnit hook points. It blends the personal and professional journeys of its principal characters, while also trying to discuss a tricky socio-cultural issue.

Brinda (Telugu)

The prologue in the opening episode establishes the premise. In a distant village in the forest, in the mid-1990s, a young girl is chosen to be offered as a human sacrifice to appease the supposedly angry Goddess. The wails of the girl’s brother and mother fall on deaf ears; no one in the village questions the superstitious, ritualistic practice. The series is peppered with practices that continue to occur in contemporary society, across religions, in the name of God.

Surya Vangala uses cinematic liberty to explore what is likely to happen to individuals who bear the brunt of such practices. Someone raised in a sheltered, doting family environment, may, with some struggle, stay on the right side of the moral compass. Left on the fringes and ignored by society, some others might channel their energy into the darker zones. The retaliation to practices in the name of faith forms the backdrop of Brinda.

The protagonist struggles to overcome memories of the past and is constantly searching for answers. Brinda (Trisha), a newly appointed sub-inspector, is mostly relegated to a desk job. She keeps to herself, unmindful of the casual disdain with which her colleagues approach work. We see her sometimes fixing an electricity issue and often having to close the washroom door that her colleagues leave ajar. Small, everyday happenings are used to establish her persona. When an auto driver hesitates to take money after dropping her off at the police station, she insists on paying him. 

The power and gender politics at work play out in different ways, with only Sarathi (Ravindra Vijay), a fellow cop, treating her with some respect. Sarathi and Brinda forge an unlikely partnership, with some friction, as they begin to investigate what seems to be at first, a case of suicide. The details get grotesque as they unfold and viewer discretion would be advised in the case of young children.

The stories of Brinda and Sarathi are effectively woven in when we get a glimpse of their families. Aamani plays Brinda’s doting foster mother, struggling to balance the animosity between Brinda and her younger daughter. The sibling friction has a predictable arc and could have been worked upon better in a story that otherwise tries to avoid predictable tropes. For instance, the prologues of the first few episodes make it seem easy to connect the dots and guess who will be pitted against whom. But events and characters revealed later add a layer of complexity to the web of crime.

At one point, when Brinda tells her mother that she is thankful that she has been nurtured in a caring home and wonders what the mindset of someone who has not received that warmth is, she points to characters on the other side of the coin. 

Brinda tries to address the good versus evil debate through the characters played by Jaya Prakash, Rakendu Mouli and Sandeep Sahu, painting a grim picture that education alone may not be enough for people to rise above superstitious practices. It also shows how another educated character is blinded by hatred towards such practices. To a certain extent, the narrative manages to underline the need for a sensible approach and let goodness prevail over all kinds of evil. 

The personal stories of some characters humanise the crime drama. Sarathi’s story is that of someone desperately waiting for better tidings on the personal and professional fronts. Ravindra Vijay puts forth a fine performance as a police officer who aspires for a higher position but does not shed his innate sense of fairness towards a colleague. A scene that shows him breaking down on learning a crucial turning point in his personal life is a sensitive, realistic portrayal in terms of writing and performance. An easy, cinematic portrayal could have shown him and his wife Lekha (Anjana) exulting. But the reality is likely to be different. His tears are a sign of gratitude, relief and hope for better things to come. Anjana as the wife, in her brief screen time, is striking.

Brinda banks on its writing and the ability of its lead actor, Trisha (with voice by Harita), to breathe life into the non-glamorous part and carry it with all her resolve. Trisha’s is a measured portrayal of a resilient woman trying to rise above her circumstances. Trisha makes it count and never strikes a false note.

Giving Brinda its grittiness is also an able technical team that includes cinematographer Dinesh Babu, music composer Shakti Kanth Karthick and production designer Avinash Kolla, who are in sync with the proceedings. Anand Sami as Thakur is pitch-perfect, as is Indrajith Sukumaran as the suave Kabir Anand who adds intrigue to the drama. To discuss their characters would amount to revealing spoilers.

Despite a few predictable stretches, Brinda is an impressive addition to the Telugu web series space.

Deadpool can’t die. If he were a character in Greek mythology, that might be a source of tragedy, but in Wade Wilson’s scuzzy corner of the Marvel universe, it functions as a catalyst for off-color comedy instead. Last time the trash-mouthed mercenary headlined a movie, Deadpool could be seen chugging drain cleaner and trying to nuke himself into oblivion — a stunt that sent his extended middle finger flying in Wolverine’s direction. The two heroes have had a long-running rivalry, since both were given regenerative healing powers via the Weapons-X program, but only Wolverine could make grown men cry. Until now.

Meanwhile, this movie tries to have it every which way. Early on, Deadpool learns that a dude in a suit (not a spandex one, but the business kind) is going around scrubbing worlds that stray too far from the “sacred timeline” (that would be the MCU one of the “Avengers” movies, where death was handled far more reverently). The man’s name is Mr. Paradox, and he’s played by “Succession” star Matthew Macfadyen as a demented corporate stooge. Unless Deadpool can bring back Wolverine, it’s twilight for his time zone.

Mr. Paradox is not much of a villain, though he does represent a fascinating meta-concept: What happens to all the dead-end Marvel properties introduced over the years? A few of them make cameos here, while others are name-checked in jokes meant for super-geeks. The implication is that Deadpool, who was caught in limbo amid the real-world Disney-Fox merger, could be at risk of being canceled, despite having earned the studio $1.5 billion at the box office. What’s a superhero to do to justify his own existence?

The physics of “Deadpool & Wolverine” function more like a Looney Tunes cartoon than your typical comic book, as Deadpool skips around various dimensions without having to explain how he does it (I blame 2023 Oscar winner “Everything Everywhere All at Once” for mainstreaming multiverses). He finds a few next-best alternatives — including a shorter Wolverine who reminds that the ferocious character originally got his name for his compact stature — before landing upon one sporting the yellow costume and black mask made iconic in the comics.

“He’s usually shirtless, but he’s let himself go since the divorce,” Deadpool quips, roasting what he calls the “worst Wolverine,” though this surly, hard-drinking fighter (played by a still-jacked Hugh Jackman) comes off tougher than ever. “The Greatest Showman” did nothing to soften his image. Furrowing his brow and grunting, as if uncertain about being dragged into a comedy, Jackman makes an ideal straight guy to Reynolds’ talkaholic shtick. They trade insults the whole way through, and whenever Deadpool crosses the line, the claws come out and these two indestructible malcontents turn on one another.

No one will accuse Deadpool of good taste. And yet, this film achieves an unexpected poignance when Deadpool and Wolverine are exiled together to The Void, a wasteland overseen by Professor X’s quasi twin, Cassandra Nova (a not-campy-enough Emma Corrin), where orphaned IP goes before being purged forever. There, amid what look like “Mad Max” rejects, the once-mighty 20th Century Fox logo has been tossed aside, à la the Statue of Liberty in “Planet of the Apes.” Like the incinerator at the end of “Toy Story 3,” this is where your nostalgia goes to die, so it’s fitting that it should be crammed full of cameos from misfit Marvel characters (including a card-carrying member of the X-Men who never got his own movie).

Throughout the film, Deadpool wrestles with a desire to “matter.” This wisecracking cancer survivor may be effectively immortal, but that doesn’t mean he won’t be forgotten. When it comes to longevity, these heroes all find themselves at the mercy of both Marvel and the market. In its own uniquely self-aware way, the movie confronts that phenomenon without overstaying its welcome — not just by acknowledging what happens to its two title characters, but especially with the montage that plays over the end credits. It’s a poignant summation of the Fox chapter of the Marvel saga.

Now that he’s back, Deadpool warns Wolverine, “They’re gonna make him do this till he’s 90.” Audiences (and Disney) may well demand it, though this singular mutant satire works best as an irreverent homage to what’s come before, as opposed to the prototype for future superhero movies.
