Consequently, he began the tradition of Fashion houses. Furthermore, he gave advice to customers on what clothing would suit them. He was prominent form 1826 to 1895.

During this period, many design houses hired artists. Furthermore, the job of these artists was to develop innovative designs for garments. The clients would examine many different patterns. At the beginning of the 20th century, new developments in Fashion took place. These developments certainly began in Paris first. Then they spread in other parts of the world. Also, Fashion in this era was ‘haute couture’. This Fashion design was exclusively for individuals.

In the mid-20th century, a change took place. Now Fashion garments underwent mass production. There was a significant increase in the rate of production of Fashion garments. As a result, more and more people became involved with Fashion garments. By the end of the 20th century, a sense of Fashion awareness was very strong. Now people began to choose clothes based on their own style preference. Hence, people began to create their own trends instead of relying on existing trends.

Nicholas Belardes’s THE DEADING (Erewhon Books, 280 pp., $28) opens with good intentions: All Bernhard wanted when he poured poison into the Pacific was to protect his oysters from a deadly invasion of Atlantic driller snails. But things went south after his intervention. Yes, he killed a lot of snails, but many survived, migrated ashore and started attacking every living thing they found.

Now people are “deading”: dying and then coming back to life. The term came from a social media trend where people collapsed and pretended to be dead, but through an infection from the snails, the resurrection phenomenon has become real. And those who die and come back are not the same.

Soon, the town of Baywood, in San Luis Obispo County, California, is quarantined. People aren’t allowed to leave and government drones use lethal force to keep residents in place. Eventually, a group of death worshipers known as “Risers” threatens to take over with their strange rituals and beliefs. Blas, a bird-loving Latino teen, and his brother Chango are among those unaffected by the deading, and for them, survival hinges on escape.

“The Deading” is dystopian eco-horror that perfectly balances social critique, lyricism and ghastliness. It’s a claustrophobic mosaic of a novel, and an outstanding debut.

Cherie Priest’s THE DROWNING HOUSE (Poisoned Pen Press, 418 pp., paperback, $16.99) is a delightful horror novel that also embraces mystery.

پہلے کسی بات کے بارے میں بے بنیاد خوف، اندیشے اور خیال پر یقین کرلینے کو توہم پرستی کہا جاتا ہے۔توہم پرستی کی تاریخ اتنی ہی پرانی ہے جتنی انسانی زندگی کے ارتقاء کی۔ قدیم زمانے کے غیر مہذب اور وحشی انسان کے لئے وسیع کائنات کی ہر چیز پراسرار تھی۔ موسم کی تبدیلیاں سورج اور ستاروں کی گردش، زلزلے، آندھیاں، دریا، سمندر، وحشی اور خونخوار جانور یہ سب چیزیں اس کی عقل اور فہم سے بالاتر تھیں۔ ان کو تنہا ان سب کا مقابلہ کرنا تھا وہ تنہا بھی تھا اور ان سب سے کمزور بھی۔ اس کو یہ بھی معلوم نہ تھا کہ یہ سب کیا ہے؟ کیوں ہے؟ اور وہ ان سے کس طرح مقابلہ کرے۔

اس لیے وہ ہر طاقتور چیز سے خوف کھانے لگا۔ خوف نے اسے ان کی پوجا کرنے پر مجبور کیا۔ وہ اپنے گردوپیش کی چیزوں کی اصلیت سے لاعلم تھا اس لئے اس کے دماغ نے خیالی عقیدے تراشے اور وہم کی ابتدا ہوگئی۔

سائنس کی ترقی کے ساتھ ساتھ عہد جہالت کے بہت سے توہمات ختم ہوتے گئے۔ انسان اپنے ماحول کو بہتر طریقے سے جان گیا بلکہ بہت سی قدرتی قوتوں کو بھی اس نے اپنے قابو میں کر لیا۔ لیکن پسماندہ ملکوں میں جہاں علم کی روشنی ابھی ٹھیک سے نہیں پھیل سکی ہے، لوگ بے بنیاد توہمات میں اب بھی یقین کرتے ہیں۔زمانہ بدلنے کے ساتھ ساتھ ان کی توہمات کی شکلیں بھی بدلی ہیں۔ اب یہ پتہ لگانا بھی مشکل ہوتا ہے کہ کسی خاص وہم کی ابتدا کیوں کر اور کب ہوئی؟

توہم پرستی کی ہزاروں شکلیں ہیں۔ ہر ملک اور طبقے کے لوگوں میں مختلف قسم کے توہمات پائے جاتے ہیں۔ دلچسپ بات یہ ہے کہ ایک ہی چیز کے بارے میں دو مختلف مقامات پر بالکل مختلف عقیدے پائے جاتے ہیں ایک چیز جو کہ ایک مقام پر مقدس سمجھی جاتی ہے۔ دوسری جگہ منحوس اور بری مانی جاتی ہے۔ مثال کے طور پر عیسائیوں میں جمعہ کے دن کام شروع کرنا منحوس سمجھا جاتا ہے لیکن مسلمانوں کے نزدیک یہ بہت مبارک دن ھوتا ھے۔

ھندوستانی عقیدے کے مطابق الو کا کسی مقام پر آواز لگانا تباہی اور موت کی علامت ہے لیکن انگریز الو کو فلسفی پرندہ کہتے ہیں اور اچھی نظر سے دیکھتے ہیں۔ ہمارے ملک کے اندر ایک صوبے سے دوسرے صوبے میں توہمات کی شکلیں بدلی ہوئی ملتی ہیں۔ یوپی میں صبح صبح بھنگی کا نظر آ جانا منحوس علامت ہے لیکن پنجاب میں یہ ایک اچھی علامت ہے۔

یوں تو ہمارے ملک میں ہزاروں طرح طرح کے عقیدے اور شگون پائے جاتے ہیں لیکن ان میں سے خاص یہ ہیں۔ راہ چلتے میں بلی کا راستہ کاٹا جانا اس بات کی علامت ہے کہ ضرور کوئی ناخوشگوار حادثہ پیش آئے گا۔ سفر کے لئے روانہ ہوتے وقت چھینک آجائے تو سفر نا مبارک ثابت ہوگا۔ شکار جاتے وقت کوئی چاکو کا نام لے لے تو شکار ہاتھ نہیں آتا۔ صبح صبح کسی کانے یا بیوہ کی شکل نظر آجائے تو دن خراب گزرے گا۔

جمعرات کے دن علاج شروع کیا جائے تو مریض زندہ نہیں بچتا۔ خواب میں سانپ نظر آئے تو دولت ملتی ہے۔ صبح صبح کوے کا بولنا کسی مہمان کے آنے کی پیشن گوئی ہے۔ الو کا بولنا یا کتے کا رونا تباہی یا موت کا پیغام لاتا ہے۔

بالکل پسماندہ اور جاھل لوگوں کے توہمات کی فہرست اور بھی طویل ہے بلکہ یہ کہنا غلط نہ ہو گا ان کی زندگی کی ہر چیز توہمات سے وابستہ ہے۔

جادو، ٹونا، ٹونکا، گنڈے تعویذ، بھوت پریت ان چیزوں پر ان کا اتنا ہی پختہ عقیدہ ہوتا ہے جتنا ہم اور آپ رات کے بعد دن آنے پر رکھتے ہیں۔اگرچہ تعلیم یافتہ لوگ ان توہمات میں یقین نہیں رکھتے پھر بھی یہ وہم ہمارے دماغ میں اس طرح رچ بس گئے ہیں کہ اگر ان علاقوں میں سے کوئی علامت پیش آجائے تو ایک قسم کی بے چینی ضرور ہوتی ہے کہ ایسا نہ ہوتا تو اچھا تھا۔

مغربی ممالک میں توہمات اتنے عام تو نہیں لیکن تھوڑے بہت ہیں۔ انگریز لوگ اب بھی تیرہ کے ہندسے کو منہوس سمجھتے ہیں۔ سیڑھی کے نیچے سے گزرنا بھی نامبارک مانتے ہیں۔ ایک ہی دیا سلائی کی تیلی سے 3 سگریٹ جلانا برا سمجھتے ہیں۔

توہمات کے بے شمار نقصانات ہیں۔ ان میں سب سے اہم یہ ہے کہ انسان توہمات کو حقیقت مان کر بیٹھ جائے تو اصل حقیقت جاننے کے لیے کوشش چھوڑ دیتا ہے۔ اس کے علاوہ نئی ایجادات اور انکشافات کے لیے جدوجہد نہیں کرتا۔

پس انسانی ترقی میں توہمات نے جتنی رکاوٹیں ڈالی ہیں وہ شاید کسی دوسری چیز نے نہیں ڈالی۔ تاریخ ایسی مثالوں سے بھری پڑی ہے کہ سائنس اور فلسفے کے انکشافات اور ایجادات کرنے والوں کو توہمات نے جادو گر ٹھہرایا اور جہالت نے آگ میں جھونک دیا۔ یہ ایک حقیقت ہے۔
