An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Research Fellow to join the Community and Primary Care Research Group (CPCRG) within the Faculty of Health. The CPCRG is intensively research active and has a strong proven track record of Health Services Research. Our research is conducted through the involvement of practitioners and the public, who are instrumental in helping to develop focused research questions and in designing projects.
The appointed candidate will work on the CO-ACTION project – a five year (NIHR funded) programme of work developing and evaluating a model of personalised support to help people with multiple long-term conditions live better lives in the community.
Applicants will possess a relevant first degree in a social sciences field and substantial experience of conducting health care research. Candidates will need to demonstrate an ability to engage relevant stakeholders; collect, and oversee the collection of, mixed methods data; and undertake work supporting a process evaluation within a randomised control trial.
The role will require an ability to support and direct other members of the team; work to project deadlines; build relationships with a wide range of people within and across sites and iteratively develop research plans and programme theory by applying knowledge accumulated across work packages.
Knowledge and understanding of personalised assessment, mixed methods, realist approaches to (process) evaluation and trial or implementation of initiatives in clinical practice would be an advantage. Candidates need to be able to travel across Plymouth to support data collection and stakeholder activity.
In this programme of work, we will enhance health and well-being of people living with multiple long-term conditions (MLTC-M) by adopting a bio-psychosocial approach focussed on supporting social and self-management. We will design, evaluate, and implement a personalised multisectoral intervention called CO-ACTION employing a variety of mix methods and approaches. The work will focus on commonly experienced problems associated with MLTC-M, moving away from a narrow condition specific focus. The University of Southampton is the lead site for this project and the University of Plymouth is a partner site.
For an informal discussion please contact:
Dr Hannah Wheat by email [email protected] .
This role will require an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check plus a Adult's Barred List check.
Please demonstrate how you meet the essential criteria outlined in the knowledge, qualifications, training and experience elements of the job description in your supporting statement.
Interviews are likely to take place week commencing Monday 14 th October 2024 and you will be notified if you have been shortlisted or not.
This is a part time post working up to 22.2 hours per week on a fixed-term basis up to 28 th February 2029 due to funding. There may be some flexibility with contracted hours.
We regret that there is no opportunity to work from home in this position.
We offer a competitive salary package and a generous pension and holiday scheme. We also offer a range of other benefits/support mechanisms, including ongoing development opportunities, flexible working, staff networks and enhanced maternity, paternity and adoption leave.
A summary of our comprehensive benefits can be viewed here .
The Faculty of Health holds four Silver Athena Swan awards, which recognise our commitment to supporting gender equality within higher education.
