The latest Special Research quest in Pokemon GO gives Trainers another chance to get a Master Ball , so here are all the tasks you'll need to complete and the rewards you'll get along the way.

If you weren't able to complete the Timed Investigation: Master Ball quest before it ended, the good news is that you'll be able to purchase a Special Research quest from the in-game Shop that leads to another one of these incredibly rare items.

Pokemon GO Special Research: Master Ball tasks

Here are all of the tasks and rewards in the Special Research: Master Ball quest in Pokemon GO:

Step 1 of 3

Catch 300 Pokemon 6000 XP
Use 180 Berries to help catch Pokemon 6000 XP
Catch 60 Pokemon in a single day 6000 XP

Completion rewards: 7500 XP

Step 2 of 3

Catch 500 Pokemon 6000 XP
Hatch 30 Eggs 6000 XP
Make 100 Excellent Throws 6000 XP

Step 3 of 3

Catch 150 Pokemon in Poke Balls 6000 XP
Catch 150 Pokemon in Great Balls 6000 XP
Catch 150 Pokemon in Ultra Balls 6000 XP
Catch 150 different species of Pokemon 6000 XP

Completion rewards: 25000 XP, 3000 Stardust, and a Master Ball

As you can probably tell from the tasks above, this is a lengthy quest that's going to take you quite a while to complete. It might be best to approach it as something you'll tick off in the background during everyday play.

The Master Ball in Pokemon GO

The good news is there aren't any Raid Battle-related tasks like the one that stopped me from completing the Master Ball: Timed Investigation. There's also no time limit, so you can work through it at your own pace.

Special shoutout to LeekDuck for help with this information!

How to get the Special Research: Master Ball quest

The only way to get the Special Research: Master Ball quest is to purchase a ticket from the in-game Shop . It will set you back $7.99 (or the equivalent price in your local currency) and can't be bought with PokeCoins, which makes it a costly quest to unlock.

There's also another catch: You can only purchase this Special Research quest if you didn't finish the Timed Investigation: Master Ball quest before it expired on November 21, 2023.

Personally, I think this is a little too expensive, especially when there have already been two opportunities to get a Master Ball for free. There also aren't any other rewards besides some Stardust and XP, so it's really just the Master Ball you're paying all that money for.

That's everything you need to know about this Special Research quest! Visit our Pokemon GO homepage for more guides like the Spotlight Hour schedule and the PokeStop Showcase schedule .

Pokemon go player discovers gym limit, pokemon go: a complete guide to ivs and appraisals.

Pokemon GO developers at Niantic offered players a chance to earn Master Ball with the start of the Adventures Abound season. Players had a deadline to complete the Timed Investigation: Master Ball by November 21 at 8 PM Local Time for the reward of a Master Ball. Now, with the start of the Party Up event on November 22, at 10 AM Local Time , Niantic has offered another chance to get a Master Ball.

Pokemon GO Master Ball is a rare and powerful item for special encounters. The unique Poke Ball is a risk-free catching device as it guarantees a catch for any Pocket Monster. There is no risk of a monster breaking free when a Master Ball is used, making it an ideal tool to catch elusive Legendary and Shiny monsters . Niantic rarely offers a chance to get such highly desired items, so completing the Master Ball: Special Research is the best bet to get one.

All Pokémon Go Team Building: Great League Timed Research tasks and rewards

Image of Zack Palm

For those watching the main Pokémon event celebrating the World Championships 2024 streams on Twitch, there are rewards you can earn in Pokémon Go . One of these is Team Building: Great League Timed Research, which offers a chance to encounter multiple combat-ready Pokémon.

This Timed Research is offered for a limited time and provides a branching path. You’ll have to choose what team you want to encounter for the Timed Research—and your choice does matter, as it rewards you with unique items for each path. The options are not vastly different, but they’re stark enough that you’ll want to pause and consider which ones you want to get in Pokémon Go .

How to complete Team Building: Great League Timed Research in Pokémon Go

Galarian Weezing, a two-headed Pokemon with smoke-stack like hats.

The first task in this Timed Research is to pick between three Pokémon teams: Pancham, Galarian Weezing, or Inkay . These teams feature those specific Pokémon, along with two other choices. Pancham’s team has Dunsparce and Mantine. Galarian Weezing’s team has Skorupi and Chespin. Finally, Inkay’s team has Shellos and Jigglypuff. Between these three options, I would recommend Galarian Weezing , but the choice is yours based on your preferences in Pokémon Go . You can only choose this path once; after that, you cannot revert your decision.

You can get these tasks and rewards for working through the Team Building: Great League Timed Research in Pokémon Go . If you have yet to earn this, head over to the Pokémon Go Twitch channel and watch for 30 minutes to unlock the code.

Choose between Pancham, Galarian Weezing, and Inkay team. This starts the quest and sends you immediately to the second task. The rewards do change based on your choice, and the rewards feature the team you selected.

TasksRewards
Defeat a Team Rocket GruntPancham, Galarian Weezing, or Inkay
Power up Pokémon 10 timesDunsparce, Skorupi, or Shellos
Use a Charged TMMantine, Chespin, or Jigglypuff.

All task 2 completion rewards : 25 Pancham, Dunsparce, and Mantine candy, 25 Galarian Weezing, Skorupi, or Chespin candy, or 25 Inkay, Shellos, and Jigglypuff candy.

TasksRewards
Battle another trainer in the Great League1,000 Stardust
Win a Trainer Battle in the Great League2,500 Stardust
Win three Trainer Battles in the Great League5,000 Stardust

All task three completion rewards : 25 Pancham, Dunsparce, and Mantine candy, 25 Galarian Weezing, Skorupi, or Chespin candy, or 25 Inkay, Shellos, and Jigglypuff candy.

Go Battle Week Shared Skies in Pokémon Go explained

The Go Battle Week: Shared Skies event is running alongside Pokémon Go World Championships 2024, running until 11:59pm (local time) on Tuesday 20th August . All three main leagues of the Go Battle League are active during this event - Great , Ultra and Master - alongside the Catch Cup: Great League Edition. There's also a host of bonuses you can take advantage of.

First off, like any Go Battle event, the number of battle sets you can partake in each day has been increased to 20, meaning you can compete in 100 battles per day. You will also receive x4 Stardust from win rewards, but not from the end-of-set rewards. Meanwhile, any Pokémon you earn from reward encounters will have a wider variance in Attack, Defence and HP stats.

pokemon go master ball research task

Finally, there's a free Timed Research quest running as part of this event which is all about battling. Completing this quest will reward you with the Lana Wig.

Here's the challenges and rewards for this Go Battle Week timed research quest:

'Go Battle Week' Step 1 of 1

  • Battle in the Go Battle League 5 times - 7500 XP
  • Battle in the Go Battle League 10 times - 7500 XP
  • Use 10 supereffective Charged Attacks - 7500 XP
  • Power up Pokémon 10 times - 7500 XP

Rewards: Three Rare Candies, one Elite Charged TM and the Lana Wig.

The Pokémon Go World Championships 2024 event is running until Tuesday 20th August at 8pm (local time) . During this time you can also partake in the Go Battle Week: Shared Skies event, which we've outlined in more detail above, until 11:59pm (local time) on Tuesday 20th August.

If you're planning to watch the actual World Championships via Twitch , then you'll have the chance to obtain three free Timed Research quests. The first two are obtained by watching 30 minutes of the Pokémon Go Twitch livestream on Friday 16th August and Saturday 17th August. (One for each day.) The third code, meanwhile, can be obtained by watching one of the official Pokémon Go co-streamers on Twitch throughout the duration of the event. You can find the co-streamers listed here . All of these codes are valid until Monday 26th August, but you can only redeem them once.

You can also get the 2024 Worlds Tee White via code shared during the Worlds Championships stream.

pokemon go master ball research task

Back to the World Championships 2024 event itself, however, and let's start with the two bonuses running throughout the event. First off we see a return of a Team Rocket bonus as you can use a Charged TM to make a Shadow Pokémon forget the Charged Attack, Frustration. Secondly, you can make up to five Special Trades per day during the event. This tallies to a total of 25 Special Trades across the full event - just remember that they're divided into five for each day.

The World Championships 2024 event also sees the release of shiny Mienfoo and Mienshao, its evolution, in Pokémon Go. Some may say, however, that the more exciting news is the release of a new costume Pokémon - World Championships 2024 Pikachu. I'll admit to being slightly excited myself as, rather than just a single flower or another party hat, Pikachu has been given a full scuba diving outfit. Will I be desperately searching for the shiny version? Probably yes. It might be quite a task though since World Championship 2024 Pikachu can only be found through event-exclusive research tasks and in one-star raids.

The following Pokémon are appearing more frequently in the wild during the Pokémon Go World Championships 2024 event:

  • Paldean Wooper

You'll also be able to battle the following Pokémon in raids during the event:

If raiding isn't your style, however, then PokéStop Showcases are also running throughout the Pokémon Go World Championships 2024 event.

The last part of this event available to all players is the new selection of avatar items for sale in the in-game shop. You can now purchase a 2024 Worlds Ukulele Pose, 2024 Worlds Bucket Hat and 2024 Worlds Aloha Shirt.

Now onto the prize only a select group of Pokémon Go players will get during this event. If you become one of the top qualifying Pokémon Go players in this year's World Championships in Honolulu, then you will receive the World Championships 2024 outfit and pose. (Along with some real world prizes as well I hope!) This special outfit and pose will really make you stand out amongst the other Pokémon Go players. Best of luck to all those competing in the World Championships!

pokemon go master ball research task

Finally, there is a pay-to-play timed research quest running throughout the World Championships event - if you pay $5 or the equivalent in your local currency of course. This fee is nonrefundable nor can Poké Coin be used. You must also complete the quest before 8pm (local time) on Tuesday 20th August if you want to complete it or risk losing the rewards it offers. These rewards include 25,000 Stardust, a Premium Battle Pass and encounters with Pokémon who do traditionally do well in the Go Battle League like Azumarill and Cresselia.

Hope you enjoy this year's World Championships event in Pokémon Go!

An in-game 2024 Pokémon World Championships event in Pokémon Go celebrates Hawaii-set competition taking place between Aug. 16-20.

During this event, you’ll be able to do up to five Special Trades a day (instead of just one) and you’ll be able to use Charged TMs to overwrite the Shadow Pokémon move Frustration.

Other highlights include the debut of Pikachu in scuba gear and shiny Mienfoo . Neither are available in the wild, requiring you to complete Field Research or Raids to encounter them.

Elsewhere, Go Battle Week: Shared Skies is running at the same time as this event, which offers free Timed Research and a four times increase in Stardust when you win Go Battle League bouts.

Additionally, a series of Twitch drops from the 2024 World Championships give you the chance to earn up to three additional Timed Research quests, as well as a unique avatar item.

  • Battle in the Go Battle League 5 times (Azumarill encounter)

Rewards : Cresselia encounter, 2,024 Stardust, 1 Premium Battle Pass

Is the ‘2024 Worlds Premium Timed Research’ worth it?

At $5, this research is pretty much only worth it if you like doing PvP (Player versus Player, known in-game as Go Battle League.)

Most of the rewards here are catered towards PvP players, as the rewards are highly-used PvP Pokémon. A (albeit small) factor to consider here is all encounters from research give a higher-than-average set of stats (they will have an “IV floor” of 10/10/10, out of a possible max of 15/15/15), so if you’re after more-powerful-than-average versions of these creatures — especially as many have the potential to be shiny — then that’s worth considering.

It’s also worth noting a Shadow Cresselia is available if you complete the latest Giovanni Special Research, “ Adventure Week: Taken Over ”, meaning there’s a free (and more powerful) version of that Pokémon currently up for grabs if you’d rather not buy this ticket.

Otherwise, there aren’t any items here that make the research directly worth it (the solitary Premium Battle Pass is worth 100 Coins, or around $1) but if you’re looking to get into PvP or build PvP teams, this may be worth your money.

Either way, if you want to get some free Timed Research this weekend, then you can claim up to three sets from Twitch drops during the 2024 World Championships before it ends on Sunday.

Pokémon GO Promo Codes & How To Redeem Them (August 2024)

How to get mienfoo in pokémon go: counters, evolution & shiny availability, pokémon go: how to get free 2024 world championships t-shirt code.

The Catch Cup is returning to the Pokémon GO Battle League for just one week in August 2024, giving Trainers a fresh challenge to enjoy as they rush to find the best team possible to compete with. This special cup only allows Pokémon that were caught during the ongoing Shared Skies season to take part, meaning most of your old favorites won't be eligible for a spot on your team.

During the Shared Skies season, Trainers have been able to catch a range of Pokémon through events like Scorching Steps, Ultra Unlock, and, of course, the massive Pokémon GO Fest 2024 . With the season now coming to an end after three long months, it's time to put all of those Pokémon to work and head to the battlefield in the Catch Cup: Shared Skies Edition.

If you're looking for some free rewards in Pokémon GO, make sure you check out the latest promo codes for August 2024 to see what you can claim.

Best Team For The Catch Cup: Shared Skies Edition

Lickitung, talonflame & charjabug.

One of the best teams you can use in the Catch Cup: Shared Skies Edition is Lickitung, Talonflame, and Charjabug . All three of these Pokémon can be caught or evolved during the 2024 Pokémon World Championships Celebration event which runs from Friday, August 16 to Tuesday, August 20. Even better, they'll know their featured attacks, which are essential for their top movesets.

Lickitung is a longtime Great League favorite, so expect to see it often during this edition of the Catch Cup. It has impressive bulk and a great moveset that can hit most opponents with neutral damage. You'll need to farm XL Candy to get it as close to the 1500 CP limit as possible, but it's worth the investment as you'll also be able to use this Lickitung in the regular Great League.

Talonflame is a relatively cheap Pokémon to power up to the 1500 CP limit, and you'll be able to get its featured attack Incinerate if you evolve one during the 2024 World Championships event. The same is true for Charjabug, the Bug/Electric-type Pokémon. It has a fast-paced moveset that can easily take out your opponent's shields, making it great for applying pressure.

Another top team for the Catch Cup would be Quagsire, Skarmory, and Cresselia . Quagsire is available to catch as part of the World Championships event, Skarmory was available during the recent Ultra Unlock: Strength Of Steel event, while Cresselia can currently be obtained by defeating Giovanni in Pokémon GO .

Although you're limited to Pokémon caught during the Shared Skies season for this edition of the Catch Cup, there are actually quite a lot of classic Great League stars that have appeared in special events over the past few months, meaning they'll be eligible to compete if you've managed to catch them. These include Annihilape, Cresselia, Carbink, and Skarmory, among others.

The good news is that many of these Pokémon or their pre-evolutions are available to encounter right now in Raid Battles , as Research task rewards, or as wild spawns as part of the 2024 Pokémon World Championships Celebration event, so keep an eye out for them when you're exploring in the real world.

Remember that all of these Pokémon will need to be powered up as close to 1500 CP as possible, which could be a struggle for contenders like Carbink and Azumarill, which both require lots of XL Candy and Stardust. If you don't have enough resources for them, try and focus on Pokémon that are cheaper to reach their full potential, such as Galarian Stunfisk and Annihilape.

Although the Catch Cup is a great way to try out new Pokémon that you've recently caught, it might not be worth spending loads of resources on your team, as the cup only lasts for one week. Check if your Pokémon have a place in the regular Great League meta before committing to them.

Ultimately, when putting together a team for the Catch Cup, your options are going to be severely limited based on what you've been able to catch this season. Because of that - and because of the short run time - it's a good idea to approach the Catch Cup as a bit of fun rather than expecting to win every battle. Try some Pokémon you wouldn't normally use and see how you get on.

Pokémon GO Catch Cup Start & End Date

Just one week to compete.

Azumarill and Altaria in a Pokemon GO Trainer Battle

The Catch Cup: Shared Skies Edition will go live in the Pokémon GO Battle League on Friday, August 16, 2024, at 1 PM PT (4 PM ET / 9 PM BST) , and end on Friday, August 23, 2024. It will run alongside the Great League, the Ultra League, and the Master League, so this is a great time to compete as there will be options for Trainers of all levels and experience.

These four GO Battle League formats will also run alongside a special GO Battle Week (Friday, August 16, 2024, to Tuesday, August 20, 2024), where you'll be able to enjoy bonuses like quadruple Stardust from win rewards and a free set of battle-themed Timed Research. The number of sets you'll be able to play per day will also be increased from five to 20.

If you fancy a more difficult challenge to make the most of the Pokémon GO Battle Week event, you can check out some of the top-ranked Pokémon and teams for the Master League here , although be aware this is an expensive league to take part in. For beginners, it's recommended that you stick to the Great League or the limited-time Catch Cup.

What’s With All the Events With No Spawns?

kittypokemonsalot

Right now we are in the ‘Catching Wonders’ event in Pokémon GO, but calling it an event seems a little… misleading. Billed as an event, it releases a new special research for the Master Ball, with some bonuses, field research tasks for stardust, XP and Pokéballs, but no wild spawns whatsoever. So is it really an event? And what’s with all the recent weeks with no wild spawns in events?

For this discussion, we won’t be looking at the three hour events, like Community Day, or the Flock Together Research Day, because while they had dedicated wild spawns, they were only for very short three hour windows on a single day.

Catching Wonders Event

Pokemon GO master ball

Ah the Catching Wonders event . No wild spawns, no Pokémon as field research task encounters, does it feel like an event really? I don’t think it does. While it may have some XP and stardust bonuses, and the new special research for a third Master Ball releasing, is it really an event with nothing else to do? It isn’t timed research, so that will carry on after the event has finished, so it feels rather lacklustre unfortunately.

Sustainability Week

pokemon go master ball research task

Sustainability Week 2024 ran from April 22nd to April 26th, with no wild spawns featured. Sustainability Week has been a long standing event in Pokémon GO, occurring for several years as a way to encourage real world activity to help improve your local environment. The 2021 event saw the debut of Binacle and shiny Trubbish, 2022 had the release of Oranguru and shiny Cherubi, and 2023 saw Bounsweet in GO for the first time, and shiny Drilbur debuting. 2024 however was entirely focused on eggs and field research, meaning it felt fairly non-event like, especially in comparison to previous years that had not only a brand new Pokémon added to the game, but also a shiny Pokémon released.

Due to the way events have occurred, there were no proper wild event spawns from April 17th 8pm, until Rivals Week on May 4th 10am. This excludes the single day events like Community Day for example, and the Rediscover Kanto event we discuss below.

Rediscover Kanto Event

pokemon go master ball research task

Sustainability Week ran alongside the launch of the new biome backgrounds in Pokémon GO, and the Rediscover Kanto event . Technically this had event spawns, but taking place over a period of three weeks, with some Kanto Pokémon spawning in their appropriate biomes, did it really feel like an event?

The Rediscover Kanto event also had an impact on the spawns during Rivals Week, which felt like many of the event spawns for that were overrun with Kanto biome spawns instead. Since Rivals Week ended on May 9th, we don’t have any event themed wild spawns until May 23rd for the Ultra Space Wonders event , another long period without a change in wild spawns.

Kanto events have been prolific in Pokémon GO, but this didn’t particularly feel like an event, instead it was your usual biome related spawns, with more of a focus on Kanto. When the event ended, it felt like the spawns barely changed, as most of the spawns would now appear in your biome anyway.

pokemon go master ball research task

The period before GO Fest always tends to feel a little lighter than other, and it is good to have periods of time without wild event spawns so that you can appreciate your local biomes. However, April and May have felt very absent of wild spawns for events, with several not having any at all.

Some wild event spawns could easily have been added for this Catching Wonders event. With a focus on throws during the special research for the Master Ball, some larger and easier to hit Pokémon could have been featured to help trainers progress, such as Wailmer, Chansey, Buneary, Psyduck, or Miltank for example. It could have easily been spiced up a little more so that it felt like an actual event, rather than a special research release with a couple of bonuses. There are plenty of Pokémon we haven’t seen as wild spawns for a long time as they don’t fit the event themes, and this could have been a great time to feature a really random assortment of Pokémon!

While the game itself has had some exciting new releases during this time, including the new backgrounds, and the new AR mode , which has kept the game feeling fresh, the lack of event spawns has made it feel quite stagnant at times, and we hope that June will see more proper events come back, with wild spawns in every event. It may be that Niantic wanted the focus to be on the game updates themselves, but event spawns could have been utilised to really hype up these updates.
