What to do if you can’t see a shared presentation or video in Teams?

A few days ago, i was participating in a Microsoft Teams meeting with several colleagues and customers. I then noticed that the presenter was describing a slide which i wasn’t able to see. I then opened a private chat with a colleague and quickly understood that the presentation was fully visible to other participants but not to me.

In this short post i would like to describe the simple troubleshooting process i went through to be able to access that presentation. I use a Windows 10 operating system, so this should be relevant for previous Windows versions. Took 2 minutes and i was up and running.

Can’t join / view Microsoft Teams presentation – how to fix?

Step #1: check your network.

I initially thought the issue was related to my Virtual Private Network connection (VPN). I disconnected, and the issue wasn’t solved. I then look into the WIFI signal in home office – all good. Problem still there.

Step #2: Re-start Microsoft Teams

Quit and restart the Microsoft Teams app.

  • From the Windows taskbar (bottom of your screen), find the Microsoft Teams icon.
  • Make a right Click and hit Quit .
  • Then from taskbar hit the Search icon (Magnifying Glass).
  • Then type Microsoft Teams and hit Enter to launch the application.
  • Next step was to try again to view the presentation, again – no luck.

Want to become a Microsoft Teams power user?

Step #3: Clear Teams cache

My third step was to reset the application cache. Here’s how that is done:

  • First off, quit Microsoft Teams. Note that Teams won’t allow you to clear the cache if the app is still running in the background.
  • From the Task bar, hit the Search button. Alternatively, use the Windows button + S shortcut.
  • Type %appdata% .
  • The Windows Explorer dialog will open. Now navigate to the Microsoft folder.
  • You’ll see a folder named Teams . Make a copy of that folder, and store it in a safe place in your PC.
  • Now enter the Teams folder and delete the Cache folder.
  • Restart Teams, the problem should be gone.

Follow up question: How to Share Powerpoints in Teams Meetings

Here is a question from Wendy:

Hello folks, i work as a consulting in an IT software firm. So far used Webex and now transitioned to Microsoft Teams. I understand that there are several techniques to share pptx slides in Microsoft Teams for Windows. Specifically i am interested to share my presentation without showing the presenter notes to the participants (i still would like to view my notes though). One extra requirement is to be able to view the participants list and video feed of those connecting using their cameras. Any pointers are appreciated.

Thanks for the question. There are several ways to show your slides in a Teams meeting. We’ll focus on the most prevalent ones.

  • Using the PowerPoint Slide view shared over Teams.
  • Using your PowerPoint Presenter View and two screens
  • Using the Microsoft Teams PowerPoint live sharing

Note: We developed this answer using Windows but this will work almost perfectly in PowerPoint and Teams for macOS.

Share the PowerPoint Slide View

This is probably the simplest and most straightforward option for sharing slides.

  • First off, open PowerPoint and load your presentation.
  • Then start or connect to your Teams meeting from your Calendar; or start a new Team meeting.
  • Use the Teams share tray to start sharing your desktop.

how to see presentation on teams

  • Then pick the Screenshare (Desktop/Window) option.

how to see presentation on teams

  • Choose to share the content of one of your screens or the relevant PowerPoint presentation window.
  • Hit Share .
  • Back to PowerPoint, move to Slide Show view by clicking F5. This will allow to share your PowerPoint presentation in full screen mode.

Summary : Note that although this method is pretty simple it has shortcomings. Unless you have two screens you won’t be able to access your notes. You won’t also be able to view the Teams meeting controls when presenting, so you’ll be able to display the participants list or access the meeting chat while presenting.

Present your slides using Presenter View

If you have two screens you are able to use the PowerPoint presenter View.

  • Open PowerPoint and load your Presentation slides.
  • From the PowerPoint Ribbon hit Slide Show .
  • Then in the Monitor section tick Use Presenter View .
  • Then hit F5 (or select Slide Show and then From Beginning ).
  • Now access your Teams meeting from your Teams or Outlook Calendar.
  • In the Teams Meeting controls sharing tray , select Screenshare and then select the monitor that displays your slide in full screen.
  • Hit Share , and present your slides.
  • This is a more robust method, which allows you to see your notes when presenting, but it requires more than one screen. It also doesn’t allow you to access the Teams user interface and view the participants list etc’.

Using PowerPoint Live to present in Teams

You can now use PowerPoint live capability to improve your presentation delivery in Teams.

  • First off, upload your Presentation to a Teams channel or OneDrive.
  • Then access your Teams Meeting from Outlook or the Teams Calendar.
  • Next, from the meeting control, select the PowerPoint presentation you would like to share. In the example below, we have only one presentation available named Share.pptx.

how to see presentation on teams

  • If you see your Presentation in the list, you can use the Browse button (as shown above) to either upload a presentation to Teams, browse from existing presentations shared in your Channel or pick one from OneDrive.
  • Once the presentation is picked you’ll see your Teams live PowerPoint view.

how to see presentation on teams

  • As you can see, the presenter view in Teams allows you to access the your notes. Obviously the meeting participants will see the full screen view . Note that both you and participants will be able to move back and forth between the slides as needed.
  • You can use the Teams meeting controls (from the lower part of the screen) to view the Team conversation and participant list.

This capability is a very cool option for presenters. Main drawback being that given the fact that it currently leverages the web version of PowerPoint, there might be some features and animations that might not fully work in PowerPoint live.

Is Shared Content Appearing Too Small in Teams? Here’s Your Fix

Today’s Guest Blogger is Kevin Nickell, Managing Consultant

“Hey, Kevin, can you zoom in on that spreadsheet?  I can’t see it very well”.  When presenting your screen over a Teams call, this is incredibly common.  As presenters, we are always fiddling with our Microsoft Excel, or Word zoom settings so all participants can see the presented content clearly.  And… it is completely unnecessary.

As a participant in a meeting, here is a simple way to view what you need, without ever having to ask the presenter to do anything.  Zoom in all you want, independently, and you never have to interrupt the meeting to admit your failing eyesight.

While a presenter is presenting, if you want to magnify the image, simply hold the Control key on the keyboard and roll your scroll wheel on the mouse.  This action zooms in on the presentation and allows you to drag the image around as needed, during the presentation, like you would on Google Maps.  Using the wheel, while CTRL is pressed, you can magnify and reduce the image zoom all you want.  We know this is a common method for zooming into other applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook, Edge, Chrome, and now it is available in Teams as well.

Give it a try, and you’ll find less unnecessary interruptions in Teams meetings.

How to see yourself as you present a Microsoft Teams meeting

If you’ve had any experiences with presentations you’ve likely found the best presentation in the world can fall flat with a dull presenter or faceless voice. Albeit, it’s quite difficult to make the most of your presentation when you cannot confirm you’re presenting your content as intended.

You can see yourself as you present a Microsoft Teams meeting and examine your presentation using the spotlight mechanic within Teams; enter it by following these steps:

  • Open the Microsoft Teams application
  • Prepare a meeting
  • Start the meeting with your video feed enabled
  • Right-click your video output
  • Select spotlight for everyone
  • Click the presentation icon
  • Select a presentation mode
  • Select an application to present

You can keep your video feed visible all the time (to you and others) by using the spotlight mechanic in conjunction with a second display— a single large display may also work. During your presentation, you will find you can cycle between three presentation modes that keep you visible. We’ll be discussing those later, as well as the ideal meeting setup.

Which presentation mode should I use in a Teams meeting to see myself while presenting?

As a presenter in a Teams’ meeting, you have access to four “ presenter modes ;” albeit, one mode is unneeded for us and thus shall not be discussed— the primary reason being that the mode doesn’t include you in your presentation.

how to see presentation on teams

Presenter mode overview

While no presenter mode is particularly bad they each have their pros and cons which make them more suitable for different kinds of presentations.

Side-by-sideThe “ ” mode displays your webcam output alongside your presented window— focus in this mode appears equally divided.Your presentation requires equal focus with yourself.
Stand outThe “ ” mode places significant focus on your presented application. You’re are displayed atop the application with your background removed. You wish to be a part of your presentation without taking too much focus off of the presented application.
ReporterThe “ ” mode places significant focus on you, although your presented application is still quite visible. You wish to present an application without drawing significant focus from yourself.

how to see presentation on teams

If you’re going to be presenting to your Office from home for the first time, you may be wondering what the ideal set-up looks like. Fortunately, it’s quite easy to attain. All you need is an adequate light source, a half-decent computer, and a webcam. Microsoft Teams’ background effects will handle the rest.

how to see presentation on teams

Your video setup

To begin, initiate a meeting in Teams. In the setup window, click the toggle by the camera icon— it’s at the left side of the window. Next to the toggle is a “ Background filters ” field, click it; to the right of the window, a list of filters will be generated.

how to see presentation on teams

In the above example, I demonstrate the blur filter— one ideal if you’d like to conceal your background subtly. I additionally present the “ Contemporary Office 2 ” filter which can be used to replace your background. I recommend “ Contemporary Office 2 ” due to its minimal lighting requirements to function well. However, there are of course more.

Just name a few:

  • Traditional Office 1
  • EDU Background Bridge
  • Halo Valley (personal favourite of mine)

Your audio setup

Next up is your audio— what your colleagues can see means very little if you can’t discuss it. Start by ensuring “ Computer audio ” is checked— as shown below. Next, enable the toggle under “ PC Mic and speakers ” labeled with a microphone icon. Lastly, look to the new panel on the right; use the dropdowns under “ Device settings ” to ensure you have selected a speaker and microphone to use.

Some useful pointers :

  • Your speaker will be your output device; the output device plays your colleague’s audio back to you.
  • Your microphone be your input device; the input device detects and transmits your audio to your colleague.
  • You can additionally enable “ noise suppresion ” to reduce ambiant background audio and give your words greater clarity.

how to see presentation on teams

You can keep yourself in view whilst presenting by taking advantage of Teams’ presenter modes and spotlight mechanic. Three presenter modes exist with varying purposes to suit your needs. For the best setup, I recommend utilizing background filters to conceal clutter and minimize distractions whilst presenting. Lastly, be sure to properly configure your audio settings so you’re able to hear and speak with colleagues.

Present PowerPoint in Microsoft Teams and still see the chat

In this blog post I show you how to use Microsoft Teams, present PowerPoint and still see the chat messages.

Sarah Lean

Microsoft Teams is the meeting and collaboration tool that is available within Office 365. It is something I use daily, either to chat to colleagues, attend meetings, present at meetings, or make phone calls. And I speak to a lot of people who are transitioning from Skype or another platform to Microsoft Teams as their organisation moves to adopting more and more services within Office 365. One complaint I hear quite a bit is that when presenting Microsoft PowerPoint slides within Teams you loose the ability to see the chat window.

I'm going to show you a way of still presenting your slide deck, and have access to the chat window to see what attendees are saying/asking.

Sharing content in a meeting

There are multiple ways of sharing content to your fellow meeting attendees. You can share your Desktop which shares your entire screen which includes all your notifications and other activities. You can share your Window which just so one window and no notifications. You can share a Whiteboard which allows you to collaborate with other users in real time. And the last option to share content with your fellow meeting attendees is share PowerPoint .

When presenting a PowerPoint slide deck with fellow meeting attendees, most people, and I include myself in this bracket, open up PowerPoint, start the slide show and either share their desktop or window to allow others to see the slide deck. And this is when it presents a problem, the slide deck takes up all your screen and if you are on a laptop or only have one screen you can't easily see the Microsoft Teams chat window. Meaning your interaction with comments about your slide deck or even the odd "Thanks, but I need to drop off" message gets lost until you break out of full screen mode.

To negate this I have started to get into the habit of sharing my PowerPoint slide natively in Microsoft Teams instead.

Share PowerPoint slides in a meeting

As I said there are multiple ways of sharing content with your fellow meeting attendees, one of them is to share your PowerPoint slide deck with them. The pros of doing this are:

  • Your meeting attendees can move around to different slides without interrupting the main presentation
  • You can still see the chat window, or fellow attendees video feed, so you can get feedback as you present

The cons of doing this are:

  • You don't get the PowerPoint presenter notes view with this method so if you rely on your notes it maybe an issue

So to use this feature, join the meeting as normal. Click on the sharing button as you would normally do.

teams-sharing

You'll be presenting with a selection of options, near the right hand side you will see PowerPoint and a list of recently opened PowerPoint presentations. There will also be a Browse button if you don't see the one you are looking for. This feature works best if your PowerPoint files are either in your team SharePoint site or your OneDrive. If it isn't in one of those locations you can upload it.

teams-sharing-1

You can move slides on either with the arrow keys on your keyboard, or space bar like you would within PowerPoint itself. There are also some arrows on the screen in Teams you can use.

As I mentioned earlier using this option allows your fellow attendees to move through the presentation at their own pace without interrupting the main presentation, however if you don't want this to happen you can control that also.

In the left hand side of your screen you will see a control bar that allows you to move slides, see what slide you are on versus what is left, stop the presentation and the small eye button can stop others from moving on at their own pace through the PowerPoint presentation.

With this method you have access to the chat, as well as being able to see your presenter notes. Plus you have access to annotate or draw on your slides if you are trying to highlight something to your audience.

how to see presentation on teams

Share slides in Microsoft Teams meetings with PowerPoint Live

PowerPoint Live in Teams gives both the presenter and audience an inclusive and engaging experience, combining the best parts of presenting in PowerPoint with the connection and collaboration of a Microsoft Teams meeting.

Your browser does not support video. Install Microsoft Silverlight, Adobe Flash Player, or Internet Explorer 9.

When you’re the presenter, you have a unique view that lets you control your presentation while staying engaged with your audience, seeing people’s video, raised hands, reactions, and chat as needed.

And if you’re an audience member, you can interact with the presentation and personalize your viewing experience with captions, high contrast slides, and slides translated into your native language.

Here’s how it works:

Tip:  Are you an audience member? Jump down to learn more about how you can interact during the presentation.

Presenter view

PowerPoint presentation in Teams

Present your slides

PowerPoint Live sharing file options

If you're in PowerPoint for the web, select Present > Present in Teams .

Your slides will appear in the Teams meeting, with your Notes next to them.

Navigate through the slides

Navigation arrows in PowerPoint Live

Use the navigation arrows to go forward and backward.

Use the thumbnail strip to jump ahead or backwards.

Select Go to slide to see a grid view of all slides in the presentation. Select one to jump to it.

Stay connected to the audience

One of the benefits of using PowerPoint Live to present instead of sharing your screen is that you have quick access to all your meeting tools you need to engage with the audience and to read the room in one view. This is especially true if you’re presenting from a single screen.

Turn Chat on or off to view what your audience is saying.

See audience reactions and raised hands in real-time.

Change the Layout of your presentation and choose how your live camera feed appears in your presentation, like Standout or Cameo . It helps the audience read your non-verbal cues and keeps them engaged.

Use the Laser pointer , Pen , Highlighter , or Eraser to clearly reference items on your slides.

Audience view

As an audience member, you’re able to personalize your experience without affecting anyone else. Try these options to find what works best for you:

Select Sync to Presenter, next to the navigation arrows

Note:  If presenters don't want people to be able to independently navigate through a PowerPoint file they are sharing, use the  Private view  toggle to turn it off.

Click any hyperlink on slides to get more context right away.

Interact with videos on slides to adjust the volume or jump to a timestamp and consume it at your own pace.

Use a screen reader to get full access to the slide content.

Select Translate slides

Switch to a high contrast view to make the slides easier to view if you have low vision. Select More options > View slides in high contrast .

Your viewing experience will be at a higher fidelity, letting you see crisp text and smooth animations. PowerPoint Live also requires significantly less network bandwidth than typical sharing, making it the best option when network connectivity is a problem.

Independent magnifying and panning

You can zoom in and pan on a presentation slide without affecting what others see. Use your mouse, trackpad, keyboard, touch, or the Magnify Slide option as applicable.

To zoom in or out on a slide, do any one of the following:

Hover over the slideshow and pinch or stretch on trackpad.

Pinch or use the stretch touch gesture (on a touch-enabled device).

Press the + or – keys.

Hover over slide, hold down Ctrl key and scroll with mouse wheel.

In the More Actions menu, click the + or – buttons.

To pan around your slide, do any one of the following:

Press the arrow keys.

Click and drag using a mouse.

Click and drag on a trackpad.

Use one finger to touch and drag (on touch-enabled device).

When done zooming and panning, press  Esc to reset your screen.

Important:

PowerPoint Live is not supported in Teams live events, CVI devices, and VTC devices.

If you're using Teams on the web, you’ll need Microsoft Edge 18 or later, or Google Chrome 65 or later, to see the presenter view.

Presenter view is hidden by default for small screen devices but can be turned on by selecting More options below the current slide and then Show presenter view (or by selecting the sharing window and then pressing Ctrl+Shift+x).

Meetings recordings won’t capture any videos, animations, or annotation marks in the PowerPoint Live session.

When you share from Teams, the PowerPoint Live section lists the most recent files you've opened or edited in your team SharePoint site or your OneDrive. If you select one of these files to present, all meeting participants will be able to view the slides during the meeting. Their access permissions to the file outside of the meeting won't change.

If you select Browse and choose to present a PowerPoint file that hasn't been uploaded to Teams before, it will get uploaded as part of the meeting. If you're presenting in a channel meeting, the file is uploaded to the Files tab in the channel, where all team members will have access to it. If you're presenting in a private meeting, the file is uploaded to your OneDrive, where only the meeting participants will be able to access it.

Here's the Parade of Nations order for the 2024 Olympics

Here's when to expect the u.s., france and more to come out., by sanjesh singh • published july 16, 2024 • updated on july 24, 2024 at 12:59 pm.

There are not many better events in sporting than the Parade of Nations .

At the beginning of every Olympics , the Opening Ceremony sees all participating countries have grand introductions in front of live audiences and millions of spectators across the globe.

The 2024 Paris Olympics will see a slight tweak, though. Instead of athletes walking down a stage, they'll be introduced on boats cruising down the River Seine in a historic first for a Summer Games.

The first country to march in the Parade of Nations is Greece. The nation is where the Olympics originated thousands of years ago and the first modern Games transpired there in 1896. Greece's founding role is recognized by going first in the parade.

NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo and race walker Antigoni Drisbioti were also named Greece's flag bearers for the parade, so they'll kickstart the event by coming out first.

Which country marches last in the Parade of Nations?

On the far end of the order is the country who is hosting the Olympics. Because the 2024 Games are in Paris, France will come out last.

Olympics Opening Ceremony 2024: How to watch, start time, and everything you need to know

Over 10,000 athletes will sail down the Seine on Friday in what is poised to be most ambitious Olympic opening ceremony ever attempted.

The 2024 Olympics , which kick off this week in Paris, are intended to " revolutionize " the Games yet remain accessible to a broad audience.

To commemorate the official start of the Olympics, which were last held in Paris exactly a century ago, organizers have spent years orchestrating a dynamic, and distinctly French, affair.

Follow along for live coverage

Over a billion people around the world are expected to tune in. Here's everything to know about the ceremony, which, if all goes to plan, will go down in Olympic history.

Stream every moment and every medal of the 2024 Paris Olympics on Peacock, starting with the opening ceremony Friday at 12 p.m. ET.

What time does the Olympics opening ceremony start?

The live NBC broadcast kicks off with a pre-show at noon ET Friday, and the ceremony itself begins at 7:30 p.m. Paris time, or 1:30 p.m. ET.

The prime-time encore telecast, which features additional content, will air later in the day for U.S. viewers, at 7:30 p.m. ET. The ceremony is expected to be over four hours.

Follow here for live coverage of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

How can you watch the opening ceremony?

NBC will have 40 cameras capturing the action in Paris, and live coverage begins at noon ET. The ceremony will be broadcast on TV and streamed in digital format on NBC, Peacock and NBC Olympics. (NBC News shares a parent company with those entities, NBCUniversal).

A complete schedule of the events over the next two weeks can be found here .

What happens during the opening ceremony?

At the start of the ceremony, the French flag will be raised and the French national anthem will be played.

Next comes what is arguably the highlight of the ceremony: the Parade of Nations. Athletes representing 206 countries will make their ceremonial entrance into the Games. Historically, that involves marching into a stadium on foot, but this year, athletes will proceed by boat along the " main artery " of Paris, the Seine River.

"An opening ceremony has never been held outside of a stadium. There is no model; it’s absolute creation," opening ceremony artistic director Thomas Jolly told The Associated Press .

Each national delegation will ride in a boat equipped with cameras that enable immersive access for viewers.

The ceremony will begin at the Austerlitz Bridge and travel just under 4 miles down the river, landing at the Trocadéro near the Eiffel Tower. Along the way, the athletes will pass the city's most prominent icons, including the Louvre and the Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral.

At the end of the route, the Olympic torch will be lit. French President Emmanuel Macron is expected to speak.

Several potential roadblocks, such as security and pollution concerns , have threatened to impede the extravagant opening ceremony. However, officials maintain that they are " more than ready " as they make their final preparations.

Who are the ceremony hosts? Who is performing?

NBC's Mike Tirico will host the ceremony for the fourth time, alongside three-time Grammy-winning singer Kelly Clarkson and NFL Hall of Famer Peyton Manning.

Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb, hosts of NBC’s “TODAY,” will have an aerial view of the ceremony from a bridge on the Seine. Maria Taylor, a commentator for NBC Sports, will also be part of the hosting effort.

The official musical performers remain unconfirmed, but Céline Dion and Lady Gaga have both arrived in Paris, further fueling speculation that they may be among the headliners.

The French newspaper  Le Parisien  reported that Dion, who is Québécois and often sings in French, is rumored to perform “L’Hymne à l’amour,” by one of France's most famous musicians, Édith Piaf. It would be Dion's first live performance since she was diagnosed with stiff-person syndrome in 2022.

When will Team USA appear? Who are the flag bearers?

Because the U.S. will host the next Summer Olympics in Los Angeles in 2028, Team USA is set to be the penultimate team down the river. France gets the honor of being the last boat for its home Olympics.

NBA legend LeBron James and U.S. Open tennis champion Coco Gauff are scheduled to bear the U.S. flag throughout the ceremony. Gauff, 20, will be the youngest athlete to ever carry the Stars and Stripes at an Olympic opening ceremony.

James is a three-time Olympic medalist, while Gauff will make her Olympic debut in Paris.

With an ambitious and unique opening ceremony , the 2024 Paris Olympics got under way when thousands of Olympians, including Team USA athletes , cruised along the Seine River on Friday night.

The city’s iconic landmarks provided a stunning backdrop for the parade of nations. Athletes from around the world, including Team USA flag bearers LeBron James and Coco Gauff , floated on boats for the six-kilometer route that traveled east to west across Paris from the Pont d’Austerlitz to the Trocadero.

Who lit the Olympic Cauldron?

The Olympic Cauldron was lit by Teddy Riner, a three-time Olympic champion in judo, and Marie-Jose Perec, a three-time Olympic champion in track and field.

Rafael Nadal, Serena Williams carried Olympic torch

In an Olympics opening ceremony surprise, Rafael Nadal carried the Olympic torch once it reached the Eiffel Tower. Nadal might as well have honorary French residency after winning a record 14 French Opens. He won four in a row from 2005-2008, five in a row from 2010-2014, another four in a row from 2017-2020 and his final one in 2022. He is 112-4 all-time at Roland Garros. A statue of him was erected outside the stadium in 2021. Nadal has 22 Grand Slams total.

Nadal then passed the torch to fellow tennis legend Serena Williams. Three of her 23 Grand Slam titles came at the French Open. Carl Lewis, a four-time Olympic champion at the 1984 Games, and Romanian gymnast Nadia Comaneci, who scored the first perfect 10 in Olympic history at the 1976 Games, also were part of the torch’s final journey. — Nancy Armour

Team USA's LeBron James, Coco Gauff not slowed by rain

The rain wasn’t spoiling the party for LeBron James, Coco Gauff and the rest of the U.S. Olympic team.

“Representing the red, white and blue, there’s no better time,” James said during an interview with NBC’s Maria Taylor during the parade of nations. “We’re here for the USA and ready to go out and compete at a high level.”

The NBA superstar and the Grand Slam champion were selected as flagbearers by the rest of the U.S. team. Flagbearers held their country’s flags aloft as the team boats floated down the Seine while other athletes waved smaller flags. But Gauff and James also took time to pose for photos with others on the boat – including the captain – and take in the sights of Paris.

“Seeing a lot of water, first off,” Gauff said. “But also some amazing people, a lot of amazing athletes and we’re all excited to represent Team USA.”

Asked if the steady rain put a damper on their special moment, James said no.

“The rain can’t stop us,” he said. — Nancy Armour

Axelle Saint-Cirel performs French national anthem on Grand Palais roof

On the roof of the Grand-Palais and wearing colors of the French flag, Axelle Saint-Cirel, the Choeur and the Maîtrise de Radio France performed the French national anthem, called The Marseillaise. It was composed in 1792 by Claude Joseph Rouget de Lisle, who was an officer for the French Engineers. It was declared the national anthem in 1795. As the national anthem was performed, the Republic Guard raised the flag at the Trocadéro. Composer Victor le Masne musically rearranged the national anthem for the opening ceremony.

What country has the most athletes in the Olympics?

There are 10,714 athletes from 206 different countries scheduled to take part in this year's Olympic Games. The United States  will have the largest national delegation at the Summer Games in Paris with 593 athletes. Host nation France is second with 573, followed by Australia (460), Germany (427), Japan (404), Italy (403), China (388), Spain (382), Great Britain (327) and Canada (318) rounding out the top 10.

Why was Australia after Zambia and Zimbabwe at opening ceremony?

The sight of the Australian team coming after Zambia and Zimbabwe might have taken those who know their alphabet by surprise. But there was a reason for the Aussies being so far out of alphabetical order. Countries that are hosting upcoming Olympics come at the end of the Parade of Nations. Brisbane is hosting the 2032 Summer Games, so Australia was the third-to-last team. The United States was second-to-last, with the Olympics returning to Los Angeles in four years. And France, the host of these Paris Olympics, was the last country in the 85-boat flotilla. — Nancy Armour

Olympics opening ceremony order of countries

The order of the parade of nations is determined by the French spelling of their country names. Germany is Allemagne in French, for example, so it goes with the As, not the Gs. The only exceptions are the United States, which is Etats-Unis in French but goes second-to-last because it is hosting the next Summer Games, and France, because it’s the host country.

Metal band at Paris Olympics: Who is Gojira?

The metal band Gojira , who performed at the Olympics opening ceremony, is made up of Joe Duplantier, Mario Duplantier, Christian Andreu and Jean-Michel La- badie. They performed at the Conciergerie, which was the residence of French kings in medieval times. It became a prison during the French revolution and Marie-Antoinette was one of its most famous prisoners. Gojira performed alongside singer Marina Viotti.

Aya Nakamura Olympics opening ceremony performance

Aya Nakamura is one of France’s most famous pop stars, performing performed "Pookie, Djadja" and "For me formidable, La Bohéme" at the opening ceremony alongside 60 musicians from the Republican Guard and 36 choristers of the French Army. Nakamura mixes elements of R&B, Afropop and Parisian street slang, and her most famous song is “Djadja.” She’s been compared to Rihanna and Cardi B.

Why Russia, Belarus are banned from 2024 Olympics

Once again, Russia is technically banned from appearing at the Olympic Games . Yet once again, Russian athletes will compete under a different name − a handful of them, at least.

At the 2024 Paris Olympics , which begin this week, 15 athletes from Russia − and 18 from neighboring Belarus − are slated to compete as "Individual Neutral Athletes," or AINs for short, according to the most recent statistics released by the International Olympic Committee on Saturday . The AIN classification means that Russian and Belarusian flags, national anthems and uniforms will be absent from the Paris Games. Minions — of the "Despicable Me" franchise and its spinoff movie, "Minions" — made a digital appearance at the opening ceremony. In a video with the "unknown" athlete running with the Olympic torch, the Minions are seen acting out a scene in a submarine submerged in the Seine.

Who made medals for the Paris Olympics?

The Monnaie de Paris, which has been minting France’s coins since 864. The company also made the medals for the Athens Olympics in 1896, the first modern Olympic Games, and the two previous Summer Games in Paris, in 1900 and 1924.

How many medals were made for the Paris Olympics?

Why does greece go first in the olympics.

Greece goes first at the opening ceremony every Olympics because it is the birthplace of the Olympic Games.

Why is Peyton Manning wearing an arm band?

NBC opening ceremony co-host Peyton Manning sported an arm band on his right forearm during the opening ceremony broadcast, much like he did during his playing days as an NFL quarterback. He joked he was wearing it because he had notes on all 200-plus countries in the opening ceremomny.

“That is an honor,”  he said . “If I am the flag bearer, great. If I am not, OK. I am just happy that I have a good coaching staff and a good team, I am in the Olympics."

Who designed the Olympics flag?

Pierre de Coubertin, who is considered the founder of the modern Olympics, designed the rings in July 1913. The Olympics logo was first used on a flag in 1914. That original flag is now at the Olympic Museum in Lausanne. The IOC officially adopted the rings logo and flag in 1914.

Americans in Paris

Rachael Raskovich, Amanda Mason-Sekula and Kelly Holmes arrived at the opening ceremony wearing American flag themed hats, red white and blue glasses and sequin USA jackets with "Proud American" stitched on the back.

"Amazon," Raskovich said with a smile when asked about the gear.

The trio of friends met in law school and said they will spend the next week or so hopping around to events around the city. They have tickets to beach volleyball and equestrian, Raskovich said, among other sports. Their group was just one of the many clad in red, white and blue that lined the southern banks of the Seine River on Friday night. Doris Ng of Chicago was among the U.S. spectators who were still searching for a good spot from which to view the ceremony in the hour before it began.

"We thought we were going to be on time," she said. "I think everybody else beat us to the punch already."

Fortunately, she also has tickets to the closing ceremony, she said. — Tom Schad

Not every local was in a festive mood

One man saw my media credential and wanted to make sure — despite barely speaking English — that he was upset over a rumor Celine Dion had been paid 2 million Euros to perform one song at the opening ceremony. Another woman, an American who has lived in Paris for 15 years, said property taxes went up and yet Parisians were not given much access to events or even public spaces to watch the festivities despite the financial and social burden being put on them.

But even when the rain began falling, people did not scatter to look for shelter. Instead they powered through, trying to get a better look at the bleu, blanc and rouge streaks being left in the sky by an airplane flyover.

Restaurants, which don’t have televisions here, were generally not busy. If you were going out to eat Friday night, it’s because you didn’t care to watch the show live. But inside one of them in a residential area near the Eiffel Tower, you could hear the singing of La Marseillaise, the French National Anthem. For a few minutes, the din of conversation went completely silent. — Dan Wolken

Team USA opening ceremony outfit

Team USA’s opening ceremony outfit is a modern take on a tailored look. On top, a tailored single-breasted wool blazer with red and white tipping is worn over a striped oxford shirt. The bottom is a more casual tapered jean and classic suede buck shoe fit.

Ralph Lauren works closely with Team USA and the goal, as always, is to “do something graphic and uniquely American,” chief brand and innovation officer David Lauren said.

To account for the heat, the company constantly looks at different fabrics and layering systems to keep the athlete’s body temperature in check, Lauren said. All items in both the opening and closing ceremony outfits are manufactured in the United States.

Why is Snoop Dogg at Olympics?

With his mind on the Olympics and the Olympics on his mind, Snoop Dogg is, indeed, back for the 2024 Paris Olympics . The rapper, who will carry the torch ahead of the opening ceremony , is primed for a bigger role three years after his reactions to the dressage competition with Kevin Hart went viral at the Tokyo Games.

Snoop will appear regularly on “Primetime in Paris,” serving as a “ special correspondent ” for NBC. During parts of the primetime show, Snoop Dogg will interact with Team USA athletes, their families, or explore Paris and share his experiences and insights with the night's audience. Paris Olympics closing ceremony date

The 2024 Summer Games will hold the closing ceremony on Aug. 11

How many times has Paris hosted the Olympics?

Paris has hosted the Summer Olympics three times: 1900, 1924 and 2024.

Are any U.S. athletes skipping the opening ceremony?

About 350 of Team USA’s 592 athletes will march – or rather, float – in today's opening ceremony, according to Nicole Deal, who oversees the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee’s security operations.

That means about 40% of the U.S. delegation will be absent, though that is not exactly unusual.

Many athletes and teams – especially those competing early in the Games – choose to pass on the opening ceremony because it often runs late into the night and requires them to spend several hours on their feet. U.S. gymnasts and swimmers, for example, regularly skip the ceremony to rest up for their competitions – which, in some cases, begin the next morning.

U.S. swimming star Katie Ledecky said earlier this week that she never planned on going to the Paris opening ceremony for this very reason. She swims the 400-meter freestyle Saturday morning. — Tom Schad
